Speaker 4 (0:43) Hello and welcome to You Beauty, the show for your face, hair and bathroom cabinet. I'm Leigh Campbell. I'm Speaker 3 (0:48) Kelly McCarran. And before we just hit record, we were talking about annoying things that the other person does. Leigh sniffs a lot. What do I do? Speaker 4 (0:56) Um, nothing really. Speaker 3 (0:58) Oh, come off it. Speaker 4 (0:59) You're often, no, like we might be in here. Okay, where we sit, because I can see the producers. So you're kind of like blissfully unaware and I'm seeing them make weird faces or talk to each other or like try and get our attention. So I feel like I'm the co-pilot. Speaker 3 (1:12) Yeah, okay. And you're like Speaker 4 (1:12) the real star. I Speaker 3 (1:14) really do enjoy being a passenger princess, to be fair. I like just sitting by and getting told Speaker 4 (1:18) what to do. Speaker 3 (1:18) You also have your phone on do not disturb Speaker 4 (1:19) all Speaker 3 (1:20) the time. Speaker 4 (1:20) Yes. Yeah. That doesn't Speaker 3 (1:22) annoy me. It's just different. Anyway. We also both have a fun pant on today. Just side note before we get into it. If you're not watching, head over to YouTube or Apple Podcasts to see us because Lise has a squiggle. Mine are like an off-white jean with a purple squiggle. And mine are a zebra jean. Speaker 4 (1:39) It's the fun jean season. But anyway, this is not nothing to wear. However, Kelly was just on nothing to wear. I was. Being smart. You were so smart. You taught me so much about marketing and fashion and why marketing is not bad and what it even looks like. So head over to listen to that later. Link in the show notes. But first, let's finally start this episode. All right. Well, later on in the episode, Speaker 3 (2:00) as always, we are going to finish off with Spendy Savy. which is always a grand old time. It's our favourite segment of the week. We do have a fantastic question about very dry, scaly skin, and I'm going to be doing something to Leigh's eyebrows. I'm going to allow her near these. But first, Speaker 4 (2:17) before we tell everyone about the wide world of beauty, we have news. I need my glasses for this, everybody. Speaker 3 (2:26) This is my dance. Is this like the waiting music? Without, like, moving too far away from the mic. Speaker 3 (2:32) We have a giveaway, a YouBeauty giveaway. Our first ever. No, eight years. It took us a while. I know. Well, Speaker 4 (2:38) we've been busy and then there was lockdown and, you know, we film a lot. That was a long time ago. So there is a giveaway, two prizes, two winners. One will win the Kelly Edit, a beauty edit of Kelly's favourite, most beautiful beauty products, or the Lee Edit. Same thing. but mine. There's some similar products in each and then there's some signature products that are just me all over and Kelly all over. They are both worth individually $650 per pack. So good. Per collection? Per edit? Edit. Let's call it an edit. That's very editorial. And it really is our favorite things. I actually made the list. I got AI to go through and... tally every single product we've ever mentioned in eight years and how many times. Wow. I know. He was tired. I gave him a break. So guess one of mine. It's my favourite fragrance. Your all-time favourite fragrance. Oh, Juliet has a gun. Not a perfume. Speaker 1 (3:31) Wow. Speaker 4 (3:33) That's really good. I know. It's a really good fragrance. That's like sponsor. Let me guess one of yours. What do I always talk about? L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil. Yeah, Speaker 3 (3:43) how good's that? So good. I'd enter Speaker 4 (3:45) a competition just to win that. I know. Let's go make up fake names. That's the prize at How Do You Enter for two lucky Yubies to win. All you have to do is become a Mamma Mia subscriber. There's a link in the show notes that will take you directly to subscribe and, yes? What if you're already a subscriber? If you are already a subscriber, you're automatically in the draw with a chance to win. Okay, good. I did know that. I was just playing along. So if you're already a subscriber, you're in the draw. If you're not, scurry on over to the show notes and what are you waiting for? Okay, but let's actually get into the show now, Leigh. Yes, let's do beauty news. All Speaker 3 (4:15) right, Speaker 4 (4:15) so Speaker 3 (4:15) first Speaker 4 (4:16) up, Speaker 3 (4:16) I want to talk to you about the Emmys. It was on Tuesday, so that is a couple of days ago now. But, well, firstly, it was actually a little bit boring. Yeah, snore fest, boring. So many of the outfits, I was like, oh, my very word. But even with beauty, there was one person wearing a lip. Yeah. Emily Rossum. Emmy at the Emmys. Emmy at the Emmys. I did not know. I've watched her on Shameless for a very long time and I did not know that her name was not Emily. But one thing I did notice, and I'm very on trend today, very dishevelled, tousled hair. Oh, good. Was very trendy. It was the one thing that a lot of people were spotted with on the red carpet. Was there snapping off? Probably. It was probably actually that no one has any hair left. It's all snapping off left, right and centre. So they were pulling it all back and like just with a few loose, tousled curls around the face or just slightly dishevelled, that really undone, chic look that I feel like I've... I don't know. You've Speaker 4 (5:15) nailed it. I Speaker 3 (5:16) absolutely nailed it today. And a hairdresser didn't even do it for the red carpet. I bet your bottoms dollar that hairdresser did it. Speaker 4 (5:21) I know. And they pay someone a lot of money for that. I know. Zendaya looked amazing. She did. Speaker 3 (5:24) She Speaker 4 (5:24) had Speaker 3 (5:24) a Speaker 4 (5:24) great cheek that I thought you would appreciate. She always does. Very cool short hair. I would almost do that. Really? Speaker 3 (5:31) I don't know if you could pull it off, to be fair. Speaker 4 (5:32) It's true now that with the eyesight, yeah. Kaley Cuoco had that sort of undone-y bit, a little bit of the strands. Hoping we could just. ignore that reverse well not reverse balayage like hardcore balayage dark brunette and then the ends were kind of like a frosted blonde it Speaker 3 (5:48) looks like she's actually just dipped her hair the bottom part of her hair and bleach however i'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt because she's pregnant and some people when they're pregnant don't like to bleach their hair so maybe that is just like seven months of regrowth yeah Speaker 4 (6:03) i mean she's always been a bit quirky. She looks like how my hair looked a few weeks ago when I did a box dye blonde. She always will look hot, but it's a choice, that's for sure. Yeah. I find the Emmys red carpet incredibly boring. I think they're the most safe. What awards do you like? Met Gala, of course. In terms of beauty? In terms of Speaker 3 (6:22) red carpet. anything except the Emmys. Like just have, I just don't understand whenever I see a red carpet, whatever red carpet it is, and I know that some of them are paid by a sponsor to wear certain things, but I just don't understand. This is your one shot to look the best you've ever looked wearing the most fantastic, amazing outfit. Do something really cool with your hair and makeup. Get people talking. Agreed. Why on earth are you wearing something that you could have found in a sad bargain bin at Vinnie's? But not Speaker 4 (6:59) even what they're wearing. Like this is the point where you can do the most hair and makeup. It doesn't have to be outrageous, but I know that whole no makeup makeup thing. Boring. But we know you had someone do that all day. So just do something. Do something. Do a coloured eyeliner. Do something really cool with your hair. Guys, I just had an event idea. Go. We'll have the YouBeauty red carpet, burgundy carpet, whatever, and then all the YouBeauties and us will get ready for the red carpet and just walk up and down the red carpet wearing our dream makeup. Dream hair makeup and outfit as if it's Speaker 3 (7:29) a proper. Speaker 4 (7:29) We won't go anywhere. Speaker 3 (7:30) Just Speaker 4 (7:30) walk up and down. And we'll all just get beautiful photos. Yes. Oh, that Speaker 3 (7:32) actually sounds like so much fun because I just think what a wasted chance to be. I Speaker 4 (7:37) agree. Speaker 3 (7:37) It's like why would you put less effort Speaker 4 (7:40) in than at your wedding? But it's not even less effort. It just looks like. It looks effortless. It's boring. Speaker 3 (7:45) I'm Speaker 4 (7:45) bored too. Anyway. I have something that's very exciting, not boring. We are going to have a new segment for news every week from now on. Well, if there's something. Until a certain date. We are going to do a weekly update for the beauty advent calendars that have become available the week before because, Kelly, Speaker 3 (8:09) why are you making that Speaker 4 (8:09) face? Is it my tinsel? Is it my merriness? Speaker 3 (8:12) It's too soon and I get it. Because every year by the time we do this episode in October, they're Speaker 4 (8:17) all bloody well sold out, aren't they? I started getting emails about, okay, yes, go on, go on your rant. Speaker 3 (8:22) It's diabolical. Companies, can we agree? Stop it. Christmas advent calendars need to come out and Christmas decorations, ETC, after Halloween, okay? Don't call me the Grinch. I now put up my tree a lot earlier than December. But let's keep it. It's Speaker 4 (8:42) just silly. It's silly. It's too much. If you're not watching on Apple Podcasts or YouTube, I'm wearing some very festive tinsel. It's September. I am very excited. I cannot help when the people, the brands put out the products to try and get our money early. Don't even start about Black Friday. Anyway, we're going to keep you updated every week with the best advent calendars that we've discovered the week before. So I've got two physically here. Yeah, maybe I'm being dirty because no one sent me anything. To talk. They will after this and then you'll wear it. No, they won't. They'll be like. Don't send things to the Grinch. Send them to me. I'm excited. And just a little warning. Skip ahead if you don't want to see what's in them. We're just going to show you one or two from each box. And if we don't have a physical advent calendar box here, we'll tell you what's launched. So first and foremost, Emco Beauty 12 Days of Emco Beauty Limited Edition. So this 12 Days of Emco Beauty Christmas one is $59. That's Speaker 3 (9:32) a Speaker 4 (9:32) lovely price. Isn't it? It looks like a little Barbie wardrobe. Cute. So with Advent calendars, obviously you're supposed to open one a day in the countdown. Do you count 1 to 24 because Christmas Day is the 25th? I don't do Advent calendars like that. I take all of the Speaker 3 (9:49) things out and get so excited about it and then I put little cars and toys and little things in there for kids in my life. Speaker 4 (9:59) I buy Advent calendars and then kind of dissect them and use them in little. things for my girls Christmas, my, you know, family Christmas. But normally you're supposed to start on the 1st of December and then Christmas Day is Christmas Day. I would say start with number one, go in order of day. See, I count down to number one, but I think I'm weird. Anyway, this one's the 12 days of Christmas. So start that in the middle. Why don't you open one quick little drawer just to give the festive people. Whip the whistle. Whip the whistle, if you will. Speaker 3 (10:26) Oh, Speaker 4 (10:26) I got a Speaker 3 (10:27) sad one. You Speaker 4 (10:27) don't know that. That's true. I'm going to open a big one. There's always, in every Christmas advent calendar, there's always a dud. Oh, there's many duds in many of them. We're not here to say these are great. We're just having a look. Speaker 3 (10:38) Oh! Speaker 4 (10:43) Who's excited for Christmas now? Speaker 3 (10:45) This would Speaker 4 (10:45) be really handy for Speaker 3 (10:46) under the eye. And is that... Speaker 3 (10:49) Okay, this is actually really cool. What is that little thing? This is a tiny little baby pressed powder. Oh. And then a little powder. Speaker 4 (10:57) Okay, that's actually so handy for having in your bag. This is my advent calendar, by the way. Only joking, you can have it. I got a powdered blush that's quite a Kelly color. I really like that color too. So that's the Emco Beauty 12 Days of Christmas. The link is in the show notes. Then on to... I'm trying to be cranky on Speaker 3 (11:11) that. Speaker 4 (11:12) See, everyone loves Christmas. Speaker 2 (11:14) This Speaker 4 (11:14) is the L'Occitane Deluxe Advent Calendar. Speaker 4 (11:18) Addition prestige. I feel like I just. I think Speaker 3 (11:21) that's the most luxury L'Occitane one I've ever seen in my entire life. Speaker 4 (11:24) Oh, I feel like I'm undressing someone. This looks like a big green wardrobe. I think I'm going to have to lay it down. Oh. Speaker 3 (11:34) Oh, my goodness, she's spectacular. She's so beautiful. Look, it's the Christmas supper. Speaker 4 (11:39) Oh, my God, I'm so off-fit, I can't even lift a pencil. So this is it. We're going to open one each from this. Okay. I better remember that, like, these have been semi-opened and not kind of re-gift them. No. Speaker 3 (11:49) I went to Speaker 4 (11:50) the shops and bought this one. Kelly and I can't gift any beauty to anyone because they think we got it for free. What day are you opening? I'm opening day three. You've peaked too soon. Soap. Great. Okay, so I figure if you're meant to start on day one, Day one's really exciting. Day two and three is a bit boring. I think by day six or seven they want to give you another like bang. Yep. Oh, dear, my finger. Oh. Speaker 2 (12:16) I Speaker 3 (12:16) can't read that. Can you read it? I don't have my glasses on. Oh, the hydrating shower cream in the Shea Butter. I think it's that. Yes. Oh, this one's beautiful. So Speaker 4 (12:24) this box is $325. It's got a value of over $600 because mostly the advent calendars are either a selection of samples or full-size products and you do get a lot of value. So great gift or even if you just want to try a brand or you love almost everything from a brand like L'Occitane. You're crazy not to get it. Exactly. And it's just so fun Speaker 3 (12:42) because then you've got like this beautiful little house. Right. If you don't. Oh, and also when it's Christmas time, we don't talk about packaging. Okay. Speaker 4 (12:48) Yeah. Because Speaker 3 (12:49) that is Grinch like. Let Speaker 4 (12:50) me tell you quickly just about a few others that have launched because it truly is Christmas time already. So the Charlotte Tilbury, Charlotte's Hollywood Beauty Wonderland Advent Calendar has just launched. Is it stunning? I don't have it physically. It's $331. Charlotte Tilbury always does excellent Christmas. I think because she's English and it's cold and they just really love it. The house is always like last Speaker 3 (13:12) year Speaker 4 (13:12) or the year before. Speaker 3 (13:12) When Kelly says house, Speaker 4 (13:13) she means like the packaging. Yeah, sorry. It's like a jewellery. Like I Speaker 3 (13:17) gave it to my girlfriend who uses it as her jewellery stand thing. It was that beautiful. I wanted to keep it for myself, but I'm like a nice person. Speaker 4 (13:24) The Body Shop Ultimate Beauty Advent Calendar is $249. That's got a lot of full-size products. That's really decent. And one that is always, well, it's a bit obscure, but always super popular is the Cosmetics Capital. So that's a website. Luxury Beauty Advent Calendar 2026 Version 1. That's $110. That's got a whole mix of kind of common, not pharmacy, but kind of mass brands that we know. Version 2 is also on the website and they kind of... peter them out and they get more because they sell out so quickly. So there is a link in the show notes to those so far. Join us next week for even more Advent calendar goodness. Let's see if Kelly's feeling festive. Speaker 3 (14:00) Finally, a little bit of a weird one to finish off our news segment for the week, but it's getting a little bit warmer here in Australia. So the bods are coming out. We're heading down to the beach and ergo our bushes are potentially coming out. A recent article in The Cut piqued my interest because it was titled, I took my bush to the beach, did anyone care? Now we will link the article in our show notes, but the TLDR is that absolutely no one cared because you're never looking at other people the way that they're looking at themselves. Speaker 4 (14:30) Also very closely. But I Speaker 3 (14:32) want to know why this beauty standard still has such a chokehold on us because it is so true that I've like, in my old age, As I've gotten older, I don't care about cellulite and stretch marks that I used to worry about when I would go to the beach. But the idea, and I'm not lazy or waxed, so it is something that. Speaker 4 (14:54) I maintained personally in my own skilled bathroom way. Speaker 3 (14:57) But the idea of going to the beach and having like a opening my legs to go for a swim and having like a full like. Speaker 3 (15:06) koala ears sideburns right there makes me feel mortified it feels like something so personal like i'd rather pop a flap than pop a pubi pubi area i Speaker 4 (15:17) mean it is personal though i think you know i think but why because it's your pubic Speaker 3 (15:22) hair it feels so intimate but Speaker 4 (15:24) there's no it is there is no other time that you're out in public en masse with so much of your body showing I, swimsuits are getting smaller and smaller. I think like sometimes I just have to get the flaps to like really like hold hands. You need Speaker 3 (15:37) almost to like super glue them into your vagina. Sometimes I don't know if I'm Speaker 4 (15:40) putting them, which like way I'm putting my bottoms on. It is intimate. I think obviously no one cares as much. Hopefully no one's, you know, seeing up that close, but I think it's okay to care. If I had a bush that I had grown or maintained or never removed purposefully, I think I would be prepared for. it existing and have swimmers to suit or not care. But for me, because
