Speaker 2 (0:02) Welcome to Weaning 15, my new podcast series all about weaning. In each episode, I'm going to be talking with Charlotte Sterling-Reed, a registered nutritionist specialising in maternal and infant nutrition. Charlotte is the expert in this field, but has helped me with my new book, Weaning 15. Each episode will cover a different topic with the aim of giving you all the knowledge and confidence you need to start weaning your baby. Thanks for listening. Let's get weaning. Speaker 2 (0:30) Hello and welcome to episode number one of Weaning 15. Today's episode is all about an introduction to weaning and I thought I'd kick things off with an introduction about ourselves because there could be people listening from all over the world that have never heard of Joe Wicks the body coach or Charlotte Sterling-Reed the wonderful nutritionist in the UK. So a little bit about myself quickly. My name's Joe Wicks and I started my career as a personal trainer then I really got into nutrition and sharing kind of content online which I love. I love getting people eating healthier and feeling good with exercise. So after that, I had an amazing opportunity to release a cookbook, which was called Lean in 15. And that went on to be one of the best selling cookbooks of all time in the UK. And my real passion lies in educating people, inspiring them to get in the kitchen and cook healthy home cooked food. And as a natural progression, here we are today trying to get parents cooking wonderful, healthy food. for their children with the new book coming out, which is Wean in 15. So Charlotte, back to me in a nutshell. Tell me about yourself. Speaker 1 (1:26) So yeah, I'm Charlotte Stellan-Reed. I'm a registered public health nutritionist and I specialise in infant, toddler and child nutrition. I qualified a long time ago. I did a degree and a postgraduate degree in nutrition and I was really, really lucky to get trained in the NHS around feeding infants and feeding children as well as pregnancy and nutrition. And from there, I've just sort of built up my own freelance business and then I happened to meet you. and we've been working on Weaning 15 ever since. Speaker 2 (1:51) Well, I've got the best partner in crime for this, the best sidekick, because going on a weaning journey is quite daunting. There's a lot of anxiety. I was very nervous and unconfident because before I had my first baby, Indy, I didn't know what I was doing. And we met at an event, didn't we? We were talking together. And I was thinking, well, I've got this book deal. and this idea for weaning 15 which came a long time ago when my brother nikki said to me yeah one day when you have kids this is a few years ago you've got to do a book called weaning 15 and we sort of laughed about it and didn't think much of it but then i um you know i had a kid and he had a kid and i realized that it's actually a really important time and a really kind of fundamental part of a child's life where you've got a good chance to get good nutrition into them so when when i needed an expert i thought We've gotten really well. We've got an amazing personality. And you also, you're so passionate. And that's one of the reasons I love you is that you really care about people and you want to give people the right advice in a non-judgmental, friendly way, which is just what people need to hear. Completely. Because with weaning, I think, and with nutrition, it's very much black or white and it's right or wrong and it's making you feel bad about certain things. But, you know, your approach and my approach is very much, you know, non-judgmental and everything we share in this podcast comes from a place of love. And kindness. We want to give advice, not criticize and make you feel bad. So I just hope you know that when we're talking. Speaker 1 (3:01) And Speaker 2 (3:02) Charlotte, you are also a parent. So tell me a little about yourself. How many kids have you got and what's it like? Speaker 1 (3:06) Yes. So I've got a little boy, Rafi, who's three very soon. He'll be three when the book comes out, actually. And I've got another baby on the way as well, who is going to be due in July. So not long after Wiener 15 comes out. That's Speaker 2 (3:20) amazing. And tell me, I love the nickname you call Rafi. What's his nickname? Speaker 1 (3:24) Well, there's so many, but Rasta, Ratbag. Speaker 2 (3:27) Ratbag is the one that makes me laugh. Speaker 1 (3:28) I Speaker 2 (3:28) love that. And I've obviously got two kids. I've got my little baby girl, Indy, who is at the time of recording this, she's 18 months old. And my brand new little boy, Marley, who's 12 weeks old. So I'm going through the whole thing again. Yeah, absolutely. Fun times. I was really nervous about weaning the first time around because... You don't know what to do and you're going from this, you know, milk to like, what do you really give this little baby in this brand new digestive system? And because I had you in my corner, honestly, I say this all the time, I'm so grateful because I had someone to lean on, I had someone to text at any time and you're always there in my corner, like, you know, motivating me and pushing me. It was almost like you coached me along that journey and I've been so passionate about sharing that confidence I've gained. So I set up the Instagram account, Weaning15, which is... been
