My Speaking Engagement Goes Sideways

VIEWS with David Dobrik & Jason Nash

  • David suggests that 10-second ad reads are more effective than 60-second ones because they prevent listeners from skipping.

Main topics

  • SiriusXM speaking engagement
  • Podcast advertising strategies

Notable quotes

I think it'd be way cooler instead of having 60-second ad reads for ads. We'd have, like, a 10-second ad read.

Conclusion

Speaker 3 (0:00) you Speaker 3 (0:07) What's up guys, welcome back to Views. We are back with another episode, joined here with my friend Jason, and then with my co-worker Natalie. Not Speaker 1 (0:17) your Speaker 3 (0:18) friend, your co-worker. Jay, we just got back from fucking, oh first of all, Ethan, so sorry about the micro-penis. Speaker 1 (0:26) My Speaker 3 (0:26) friend Andy Speaker 2 (0:28) texted me. Speaker 3 (0:29) Really? Yeah. Wait, what did we say about Andy? I think he said Speaker 2 (0:32) he had a breakup. Speaker 3 (0:33) Oh shit, well we got it spot Speaker 1 (0:35) on. I feel like we Speaker 3 (0:38) won't hear from any Ethan's about their micropenis. I feel like that's something somebody's going to want to keep to themselves. There might be someone Speaker 2 (0:44) with a small penis out there, though, who thinks that they have a micropenis now that you said it. Well, what is a micropenis? It's smaller than regular. How big is yours? Speaker 1 (0:52) It's like inverted. Speaker 2 (0:53) Oh, yeah. That is Speaker 3 (0:55) micro. You know that's Speaker 2 (0:56) how birds have sex? The male's penis is inside. Speaker 1 (0:59) So Speaker 2 (1:00) the Speaker 3 (1:00) girl has to find it? Yeah, they just kind Speaker 2 (1:02) of come down and like... Speaker 3 (1:03) I've never seen a bird's penis. And you never will. That's weird, especially because they are usually on top of us. Like, not me. Like, I'm not fucking birds. I'm sitting there flying overhead. In the air. Yeah. Usually when I have sex with eagles. Speaker 1 (1:19) Oh, that's where they're dying Speaker 2 (1:20) out. Speaker 3 (1:20) Yeah, I'm doggy. No, okay, anyway. Sorry. We just got back. Weird start. We just got back from SiriusXMJ. How did it go? Thanks for the invite. Yeah, I don't know why we didn't invite you. What Speaker 1 (1:34) the fuck? I kind of realized that on the way there. I was like, wait, Jason should be here. Are Speaker 3 (1:38) you out of your mind? I don't know why. Why wouldn't you bring me? Speaker 1 (1:42) That's crazy. You Speaker 2 (1:43) have to Speaker 1 (1:43) explain to him what it is. It wasn't a meeting. Speaker 3 (1:44) Oh, yeah, it wasn't a meeting. I had a speaking engagement. Speaker 2 (1:47) Oh. So it was work. Speaker 3 (1:49) So we felt bad just bringing you. Oh, no, that's okay. I'm glad you didn't call me. Yeah, okay, okay. No, no. Oh, Speaker 1 (1:55) it Speaker 3 (1:55) wasn't a meeting. Oh, no, no, no, no. Yeah. So like, we Speaker 2 (1:59) work with Sirius XM. So that's Speaker 3 (2:01) why I would be. So you went down to the studio, you did a show. Speaker 1 (2:04) No, it was like just talking to like Sirius, they're like team members and like advertisers. It Speaker 2 (2:09) was Speaker 1 (2:09) like a hundred. It was a panel. It Speaker 3 (2:10) was a panel. Yeah. There's like a hundred people in the audience. Oh, that's good. That's good for business. Speaker 1 (2:14) Yeah. Speaker 3 (2:14) Well. Apparently I did a bad job, according to Natalie. No, Speaker 1 (2:17) I didn't say you did a bad job. I just said he could have done a better job. Speaker 3 (2:20) And then I was like, well, we should have gotten Jason. Speaker 1 (2:23) Jason's really sad right now. He's like, you just fucked us on the advertising. Speaker 3 (2:26) Jason was like, no, no, Speaker 2 (2:27) no. I thought you went and had a meeting about the podcast. Speaker 3 (2:30) No, no, no. She's saying that I fucked you guys by not doing a good job at the panel. Oh, yes. No, no, no. So that's why I said you should have come. You're Speaker 2 (2:38) usually Speaker 3 (2:38) so Speaker 2 (2:38) good at that. Speaker 3 (2:39) Because Natalie wants me to hype myself up in the podcast. Right. One that's so against my ethos of the Speaker 2 (2:47) podcast. You're the one that tells people to not invest with you. Speaker 1 (2:51) Exactly. I think you would have been great there. Hire a Speaker 2 (2:54) smaller influencer is what David will tell you. That is true. I do say that. Wow, you've listened to my panels. Yeah, I don't know. I just, yeah, I don't know. What do they want to know? Speaker 1 (3:05) A lot of questions Speaker 3 (3:06) were about the pod. Sorry, I'm cutting you off. My mom's going to fucking kill me again. Go. Speaker 1 (3:10) Well, I've lost my train of thought. No, it was about the podcast and why David loves podcasting and why he loves views and what views is. Oh, right there. I could Speaker 2 (3:20) see it going poorly. Yeah, I Speaker 1 (3:22) was like, fuck. Speaker 3 (3:23) Well, no, Speaker 1 (3:23) no, Speaker 3 (3:23) no. I hyped up the pod. Okay. Speaker 1 (3:25) No, yeah, he did. Speaker 3 (3:26) I hyped up the pod. I was like, I love it because it's where our audience is most connected. It's the highest level of our audience, right? It's the people that really want to know. the day-to-day stuff. Yeah. But then like, that's kind of all I said. And then I started talking about the vlogs. And then Natalie was like, that was because I didn't really know this, but like, it wasn't really about Speaker 2 (3:45) the Speaker 3 (3:46) vlogs. It was all about the podcast. Sure. Speaker 2 (3:48) It's serious. And I kind of started Speaker 3 (3:49) figuring that out. Right. As the interviewer kept bringing it back to the podcast. And I, in my head, I was like, what are you doing? I'm talking about the vlogs. It's so fun. Speaker 3 (4:00) No, no, no, no. The interview was great. Can we get Speaker 2 (4:04) your vlogs on SiriusXM? Speaker 3 (4:06) No, but let me tell you about it anyway. Yeah, and then another question. What was the questions that you were upset with me about? Speaker 1 (4:17) David was insinuating that he loves, what was it, free money? Speaker 1 (4:25) Well, okay. So Speaker 3 (4:26) that's not what I'm saying. I gave them the story of like – okay. So they were like, what's your favorite brand deal you've ever done? Speaker 1 (4:35) And Speaker 3 (4:35) I told them a story of where one time like Speaker 2 (4:38) – Speaker 3 (4:38) no, no. It's not that one. It's not where the thing became racist. No, I just – no, you've had a couple where they're just like – They had Speaker 2 (4:47) to Speaker 3 (4:47) pay you Speaker 2 (4:47) out. Speaker 3 (4:47) Yeah, it turns out to be free. Yeah, there was one time I worked with an AI software. Speaker 2 (4:51) It Speaker 3 (4:51) became racist and went rogue. And then they had to pay me my full rate anyway, even though I never even promoted it ever. Speaker 2 (4:58) Right. Speaker 3 (4:59) But I was already locked in contractually. No, the one I gave him was where I had a brand deal for my Instagram stories, but I accidentally also filmed it on my vlog. And I called the guy and I was like, do you have any budget left? And then he... And then he was just like, we actually have, we Speaker 2 (5:12) can give you $125,000 for something Speaker 3 (5:14) that was already going in the vlog. So I told everyone that that was my favorite because it was like free money. Speaker 2 (5:19) I Speaker 3 (5:19) don't know. I guess Natalie didn't like that apparently. The Speaker 1 (5:22) part that I didn't love was when you were like, I was going to put it in the vlog anyway, but then the brand ended up giving me a bunch of money. And I was like, well, maybe we shouldn't tell people that. Well, okay. Also, Speaker 3 (5:33) to be fair, I didn't really know who I was speaking to. My audience, everyone was really young and younger than me. That's not Speaker 1 (5:40) true also, by the way. Speaker 3 (5:41) Okay. Oh, no. There was Speaker 1 (5:42) like the first two groves were the younger girls that are obviously the most excited and they like sit up in the front. Yeah. But the rest was all like very corporate. Speaker 3 (5:49) Really? Middle-aged people. That's Speaker 1 (5:50) not Speaker 3 (5:50) the vibe I was getting. I was getting that everybody was like my age. So I was like kind of just like talking about like what I want to talk about. Like I wasn't like, not that I would age it up or anything for anybody else, but I was like less talking about the boring podcast stuff. How much can you say about the podcast? Then they're like, why do you like working with Jason? I really hyped you up. Oh, thanks. He Speaker 1 (6:09) did. Speaker 3 (6:09) He did Speaker 1 (6:09) do that. Speaker 3 (6:09) Yeah, yeah. And when I hyped you up, I was like, wow, that was crazy. I just said that. That probably should be enough. I should take it easy now with the podcast. And then I went back to talking about the vlog. No, but I was asked why you're my favorite collaborator. And it's what I actually said on the last podcast, basically. I was like, he's just the best guy to just. like keep trying bits with. Yeah. And like, he's just like into it. So it's very easy to create. So my Speaker 2 (6:32) phone's not ringing. I don't know. Speaker 3 (6:34) You Speaker 2 (6:34) think Speaker 3 (6:34) we're not getting the deals? Sure. It hasn't worked yet. I'll give it another day or two. Um, yeah, but well, it is what it is. I'll be better next time. But that's why I think next time we Speaker 2 (6:45) need to bring you. Sure. Because Speaker 3 (6:47) Natalie Speaker 2 (6:48) was like, you don't ever hype yourself up. And like that, the point of these Speaker 3 (6:52) is for you to like talk yourself up. Yeah, or put Natalie Speaker 2 (6:55) there with you to hype you up. I get that. I get not wanting to hype yourself up. That sucks. What am I going to fucking say? That sucks. It's so hard. But I don't think you need to be Speaker 1 (7:02) like, I'm the most amazing podcaster in the world. I think you could just talk about the things that you do. I feel like he always dampens and downplays a lot of what he does. And even just sharing the excitement or even just saying what is views. Like, oh, this is our most... Yes, you mentioned that it's like our most hyper focused, like the nichest version of our audience is listening to the views podcast. Like these views listeners are like the most locked in. But like, why is that? That's because like your vlog is only 15 minutes long or whatever. But the views podcast is 40 minutes twice a week. Like you're getting. everything behind the scenes, like all the specific details, all the nuance of like the way you think. No, I Speaker 2 (7:42) definitely could have done a better job. What happened in the car ride over? I would love, were you guys together? Oh my God. Do you want to know? Speaker 1 (7:48) So Speaker 2 (7:48) good. I want to hear all that, but it was how much time was put into what you were about to go do? Like prep? Speaker 3 (7:55) Was it basically like that? On the car ride over to there? Speaker 2 (7:58) Yeah. Speaker 3 (7:59) Oh, nothing. Okay. I Speaker 1 (8:01) did talk about it. I made it very clear not to Debbie down. Speaker 3 (8:03) Well, I don't. Oh yeah. She said. she said, don't mention this brand. They don't like if you mention this brand. And then she said, just don't be a Debbie Downer. And I wasn't really a Debbie Downer. I just wasn't a Debbie Upper. Speaker 2 (8:13) Yeah. Speaker 3 (8:14) You just want to talk vlog. I wanted to talk vlog. And then also she asked me, the moderator asked me, what are you most excited about? Yeah. And I said, I'm in escrow on a new house. Speaker 2 (8:24) Oh, no. Right after the free bunny comment. And Speaker 3 (8:27) I was like, I really, yeah, I told her all about my plans to make it like a place for people to hang out and have fun. She kind of liked, but it was funny that she was like, at the end when she was wrapping it up, she's like, well, we're really all excited to see this house you're an escrow on. And it was like, it was like really funny that I've Speaker 2 (8:41) just Speaker 3 (8:41) gotten somebody in on my fun little delusion. Can I Speaker 2 (8:44) show you my Speaker 3 (8:44) AI rendering? Yeah. Of the back house? Oh my gosh. Yeah. So other than that, I think it went Speaker 2 (8:49) pretty good. I mean, I've seen it though. I've seen where his like transparency. P wins people over with it, even if the comments are a little like, oh. You know what I mean? So you just don't know. I'm sure half the audience is like, damn, he's honest. You know Speaker 1 (9:05) what he fucking said? Speaker 2 (9:06) What did he say? Speaker 1 (9:06) He said, we have too many ads on the podcast. Speaker 2 (9:09) Oh, I Speaker 3 (9:09) did say that. Speaker 1 (9:10) And when he said that, my heart was like, oh, God. Speaker 3 (9:13) Okay, I did say that. I did say that. Speaker 1 (9:16) He's like, you know what? I was listening to Views podcast the other day. is this normal? There's like 15, 20 ads on this thing. There's not Speaker 3 (9:24) 15 or Speaker 2 (9:25) 20 ads. Speaker 3 (9:26) Feels that way. I was like, are we gouging our audience? And she was like, uh. Speaker 1 (9:31) She's literally the head of all podcast partnerships and advertising. Speaker 3 (9:36) But then everyone was like, be honest with me to all the kids and everybody in the crowd. Are there a lot of, is it similar ads to what we have? And everyone was like, yes, that's like
