Speaker 2 (0:17) Welcome, dear listeners! I'm Jonathan Carlin. And I'm Benjamin Carlin. And we invite you to join us through the Gryffindor, your one-way ticket to the enchanting world of Harry Potter. So grab your wands and dust off your broomsticks and join us as we unlock the potion-stained pages of The Half-Blood Prince Chapter 15, The Unbreakable Vow. Speaker 3 (0:38) Unbreakable indeed. Although just such a poorly named chapter. This Speaker 2 (0:42) is one of two extremely poorly named chapters in this book. Speaker 3 (0:46) Yes. This one in Felix Felicis. Yes. Those are the two. Speaker 2 (0:49) Those are exactly the two. Absolutely ridiculous. Because yeah, like Speaker 3 (0:54) you could have just so easily named spinners Speaker 2 (0:57) end the unbreakable vow, right? When the Speaker 3 (0:59) unbreakable vow happens, right? Instead, this is like it is soft mentioned. Soft mentioned. Best case scenario, what you have here is Harry learning it happened. Speaker 2 (1:09) Yes, that's what happens. Like the unbreakable vow happens in Spinner's End. Right. And like that's that's what should have been titled that and then Felix Felicis should have been the chapter where he drinks the Felix Felicis after Speaker 3 (1:22) the burial. Yeah, after the burial should have Speaker 2 (1:25) been Felix Felicis. It Speaker 3 (1:26) absolutely should have been. It is Speaker 2 (1:27) terrible naming on both of these. It is so. Like what? Like this one? I don't know what this one should just be called slughorns party, right? Like, I don't know. Speaker 3 (1:38) Yeah, like Speaker 2 (1:39) like Draco overheard or something. I Speaker 3 (1:43) mean, there are so many better ways to do it because then okay, let's even go back really quick here because the it's it is called Felix Felicis, right? But it's also Harry's like first day of class. Yeah. So like even that one could have been called the half-blood prince. Could it have not Speaker 2 (1:57) the half-blood prince? is I think when he gets the half-blood prince or maybe that's another incorrect one. Is it? Let's see here trying to see. I feel like it happened a third time. Maybe that was it. Speaker 3 (2:12) Maybe that is I think the Speaker 2 (2:13) chapter where he earns the Felix Felicis is called the half-blood prince, which is also a fine chapter for that. That's an okay one, but these two these two the unbreakable vow and Felix Felicis are no they're in the wrong spot. Speaker 3 (2:26) They're on the wrong spot. But either way, if we look at the chapter art here, we've, of course, got Phil just getting Draco by the ear. No, Speaker 2 (2:33) not of course. That's not, of course, what the chapter art should be, you know, to be Snape talking to Draco. Oh, Speaker 3 (2:39) well, sure. Right. I mean, okay, I'm sorry. That is what the chapter art. is is yeah the thing that really that really strikes me about this because there's not really that much to comment about other than yes you're right it should have been snape because that's really the key conversation that's happening especially if you're going to call it the unbreakable vow right because the unbreakable vow it's like you're we're wrong in every direction i guess that's Speaker 2 (2:58) really Speaker 3 (2:58) what it comes down to right the Speaker 2 (2:59) unbreakable vow it should be like if that's the chapter title then at least have the conversation where it happens to be the chapter art. Right, Speaker 3 (3:07) right. Yes. Yep. I mean, even a cool one would have been sort of like a half Draco silhouette head versus like a half Snape silhouette head, like kind of facing each other. Yeah, Speaker 2 (3:15) it Speaker 3 (3:16) would have been like breaking the style guide for chapter art a little bit, but it would have been a cool one. Speaker 2 (3:19) That would have been cool. That could have been cool. Yep. Instead, we get Filch with just the biggest belt buckle on. I know. And is it over his shirt? It's over his shirt. He's got his shirt tucked into his belt. Yeah. Speaker 3 (3:31) Yeah, so it's like it's like is it is this keeping his pants up or a shirt down? Maybe a little Speaker 2 (3:37) of both. Am I to believe then that he is wearing just the most high waisted pants like up to his nipples at least has to be or the belts doing nothing and can I Speaker 3 (3:50) believe you just the Speaker 2 (3:51) word nipples on the cast? I don't know. I know no one wanted to think about filters nipples yeah, Speaker 3 (3:58) but Speaker 2 (3:58) this is what the chapter art has led me to. It is an inescapable situation inescapable yeah Speaker 3 (4:03) yeah, and he's even like holding his belt like yeah, as if he's holding Speaker 2 (4:07) it as if it needs a little extra hoisting like hold on let me let me make sure it doesn't fall down. Speaker 3 (4:13) Filch also sees the kind of person who would have like a like a reversible brown black belt, you know, that's Speaker 2 (4:20) absolutely reversible belt. Yeah, the buckle, the buckle spins. Yeah, it spins. Yeah, you used to have quite a collection of belt buckles. If I'm not mistaken, I Speaker 3 (4:27) did. I did indeed not specifically reversible, you know, belt type situations, but in high school, like part of my persona was having a different belt buckle that I wore every day. Nice, but my favorite one was like a little it was like a royal flush looking thing with like a spinning. It wasn't a roulette wheel, but it was like something behind it that spun and the best thing about it was that it was like my fidget spinner before fidget spinners became a thing right so i just sit there and like walk down the hallways going like very Speaker 2 (4:54) fun very fun and Speaker 3 (4:56) it was really good yeah Speaker 2 (4:57) yeah okay very cool so there you go if you need something to like help you stand out in high school get like a collection of belt buckles and just start rocking them Speaker 3 (5:04) that's right yeah spencer's gifts at least back in the day had just a proper collection Speaker 2 (5:07) there you go you can go if you still have a spencer's gift that I'm pretty sure they don't exist anymore, but maybe your mall is like the holdout. Well, Speaker 3 (5:16) that's it. Yeah, you have one of the last ones. You have one of the last one. You can pick up a lava lamp and a belt buckle at the same time. Yes, right. Yes, Speaker 2 (5:22) and like a poster of like a pot leaf, you know. Oh Speaker 3 (5:26) yeah, I mean Speaker 2 (5:27) everybody needs. I think they just give them out at the register. Yeah, like Speaker 3 (5:30) thank you so much for your purchase. Here's your your your pot leaf posters. Speaker 2 (5:35) Don't forget to try it under a black light. That's right. Speaker 3 (5:37) Yeah, it Speaker 2 (5:38) lights up real Speaker 3 (5:38) cool like Speaker 3 (5:40) Anyway, we are so far off track. We haven't even done the first sentence. Jay, would you like to do the honors? I, Speaker 2 (5:46) of course, would, Ben. Snow was swirling against the icy windows once more. Christmas was approaching fast, and then the dragons arrived to put a swift end to Christmas. That's right. Speaker 3 (5:57) That's right. You think Santa's coming? No, no, no. It's Speaker 2 (6:01) dragons. It's like Santa's on his way. Why didn't he come? Dragons. Dragons got him. Yeah, they got him. Yeah, Speaker 3 (6:08) he's been around for generations and generations and got eaten by a large hybridian black. Speaker 2 (6:14) That's it. You know, Dumbledore, there was extra security around the school. All right. Dumbledore sent out a memo to all the wizards, including Santa. Obviously, obviously he didn't. He was like, no, I'm Santa. Like they're not going to attack me. Dumbledore wouldn't have put four large hybridian black dragons around the dead. Speaker 3 (6:30) Gone. Just simply Speaker 2 (6:31) gone. Sorry. You Speaker 3 (6:32) know. So too bad for Santa and the holiday of Christmas in the Wizarding World. The dragons Speaker 2 (6:37) are there. Both are now gone. They're gone. That's it. Oh, Speaker 3 (6:41) man. Hagrid had already single-handedly delivered the usual 12 Christmas trees trivia to the Great Hall. Garlands of holly and tinsel had been twisted around the banisters of the stairs. Everlasting candles glowed from the inside of helmets and suits of armor. Great bunches of mistletoe had been hung at intervals along the corridors. To which is like, just immediately, like, what kind of school is this? That they were like, you know what we should decorate everywhere in a school full of teenagers? Mistletoe. Speaker 2 (7:09) Mistletoe. everywhere and everywhere. Also in a school full of magic, we're going to make that guy drag single handedly all of the trees into the great hall. Yeah. Could we float them here? Could we even just summon them here? Absolutely. There's a spell, a literal spell. Hermione does just like mo mo like a mobility Arbus. Yeah. Mobility Arbus, which means move tree tree Arbus meaning tree. Right, right. And Nope. Instead, we're going to make the guy who could do magic, but isn't allowed to drag them in one at a time. Yeah, totally fine. Absolutely. Totally fine. Speaker 3 (7:49) Dumbledore's like as long as we got Filch, you know, we may as well have Haggard. We may as well have Haggard. I'm Speaker 2 (7:54) surprised Filch isn't out there doing it too. You know, it's just like, you know what Haggard sit down Filch. It's your year, my man. Don't let your belt fall. Speaker 3 (8:02) That's right. No one wants Speaker 2 (8:03) a cold nipple. Speaker 3 (8:06) Positively no one. No one. Positively no one. He's just Speaker 2 (8:09) out there. The belt is down. Oh, it's a bad day. Speaker 3 (8:15) Oh, dear. But the yeah. So so back to mistletoe, which is which is also kind of ridiculous. It's not you could be like, okay, you could say. Maybe people don't have the same relationship with mistletoe, and so like hanging it is just, you know, festooning the castle, but no, because large groups of girls tended to come converge underneath the mistletoe bunches every time Harry went past, which caused blockages in the corridors. I Speaker 2 (8:40) know to which I was. I my note was here. I was like, well, to be fair, mistletoe. is binding after all. That's Speaker 3 (8:46) a Speaker 2 (8:46) literal note. I was just like, you know what? This makes sense. You're not allowed to not kiss somebody if you're both under mistletoe. It's law, right? Speaker 3 (8:56) I know. Yeah, people assuming Harry abides to this fiercely, this fiercely to missile law, exactly Speaker 2 (9:02) like Harry, just because you walked under mistletoe when there were girls there, you don't have to kiss them. Okay, Speaker 3 (9:10) not required at all, right? Speaker 2 (9:11) It's just it's just not right. Anyway, but Harry either way is avoiding it because I guess people are lining up for the kissing booth. Speaker 3 (9:19) That's right. That's right. Yep. But Harry's frequent nighttime wanderings had given him an unusually good knowledge of the castle secret passageways. Yeah. As a six year, I'm like, you just know them. Speaker 2 (9:28) You just know them. Speaker 3 (9:29) I don't even think you have to be like somebody who's like out and about in the middle of the night doing like undercover type things. Yeah, especially because he has like an invisibility cloak. So like at night, it's like he's just invisible. Speaker 2 (9:39) Also, Just use your invisibility cloak in the middle of the day. You know, so that you can do that with Speaker 3 (9:44) you at all times. Keep Speaker 2 (9:45) you with you at all times. Also try the map, man. You know, you're checking on Draco all the time anyway. That's right. Just like. look it up. She's like Speaker 3 (9:52) wow, there's a whole a whole gaggle of girls Speaker 2 (9:55) over there. Yeah, I'll just go down this corridor instead. That's right deal. Ron thinks it's hilarious, which is kind of good because at least he's not jealous, but also kind of bad because the reason he thinks it's funny is because now he doesn't need to feel jealous because he's got lavender brown and the improved Ron came at a heavy price, a very heavy price indeed. Firstly, Harry had to put up with the frequent presence of Lavender Brown, who seemed to regard any moment that she was not kissing wrong as a moment wasted. Speaker 3 (10:21) Yeah, yeah, which sounds just absolutely miserable. And like, I mean, I get it, but I don't get it. Like, this is just simply too much. It's a lot. And it's been going on for like a couple of months. I know. It's like you guys have been like, basically, if you've been spending time together at all for the past two months, you've been making out like. Holy chapped lips, Batman. I know, right? It's just like, it can't be fun. Like, I mean, you might need trips to like the hospital wing. And there's Speaker 2 (10:50) like no private areas to do this, you know? Like, they're just like, I guess, you know what? Hogwarts doesn't have like private zones. So we're just going to be super in public all the time. So Speaker 3 (10:59) does, does that just mean that like, cause you know, we're dealing with like the six, seven years now, they're getting a little bit older. They're definitely in like the dating scene, but like, would that just mean that like all the first years, like as they grow up, just literally witness the elder students, just straight Mac in there. There's just like Speaker 2 (11:13) snog, you know, it's like, those are the snogging couches. Yeah. It's like, you know, it's like, like, well, we're not allowed over there. And it's like, anyone can go anywhere in the common room, but just like, We kind of know it's sort of know you Speaker 3 (11:26) probably just don't want to Speaker 2 (11:26) you just like you know like that's that whole corridor. It's like it feels like the common room should be a lot bigger, doesn't it? It's like yeah, it does or Speaker 3 (11:34) maybe like cubicalized or something. Speaker 2 (11:36) Yeah, it's like yeah, we have more room, but it's used. It's used. It's used. That's Speaker 3 (11:42) right. That's right. Yeah, that's why there's such scarce few. Yeah, chairs, good chairs in front of the fire. Yeah, exactly. Speaker 2 (11:50) I feel like the Gryffindor Cobb room seems really small for how many students must need it. Speaker 3 (11:55) True. True. Yeah. I mean, I'm trying to think like, cause you know, we always kind of go back to the, like, uh, like what? 10 students per year. So 70 kids, like one Speaker 2 (12:04) room, right? Speaker 3 (12:04) Yes. Yeah. With, with like a handful of chairs, like you would, you'd probably need like, like eight couches, right? Speaker 2 (12:11) You would need like eight couches and like probably like a few just. rows of tables to do homework, you know, Speaker 3 (12:17) also that right, right? Yes, yes, yeah, this is insufficiently sized, insufficiently Speaker 2 (12:22) sized, you know, it comes down to what it comes down to, but Speaker 3 (12:24) okay, so then the other heavy price of Ron kind of being like in this better mood, yeah, the heavy price is that Harry found himself once more the best friend of two people who seemed unlikely ever to speak to each other again, right, Speaker 2 (12:36) and this was back in fourth year, right, right, yes, and third year. Right, right. Speaker 3 (12:42) Yeah. Speaker 2 (12:42) So it's like I mean, why do they even like each other? This is exactly what I Speaker 3 (12:47) was going Speaker 2 (12:47) to say is Speaker 3 (12:48) like all you know, like you guys know we're all like hashtag Hermione or whatever, but like that completely aside like Ron and Hermione to me are such a bad case of like tell don't show like the only time their romance is ever alive is just because the words on the page. say that it is right. It's like they're jealous of each other's like interest in other people, but it's not like they have this infectious, you know, sense of shared humor or like they finish each other's sandwiches or something. Right. It's just, it never, it never amounts to something where like, I feel like I can plainly see why they should be paired. Right. Speaker 2 (13:29) So like a lot of like, that's a great thing. Cause even in this chapter, there's going to be just a great example of Harry and Hermione having exactly that. Speaker 3 (13:36) Right? Yes. Yeah, exactly right. So anyway, but so Ron then, of course, is going to go into like it says that he is taking a defensive and resentful tone, which is absolutely correct in Speaker 2 (13:49) terms of what he is about to do. She can't complain. He told her it's like she sure can, dude, right? Yeah, he's like she's not crumb. So she's found someone. I want to snog me to that's free country. I've done nothing wrong. It's like bro. She asked you to go to that party. Okay, right, right, like you. you wanted to go with her and then you found out she kissed someone two years ago. Like, like, what are you talking about? Speaker 3 (14:12) Your jealousy has no place in this conversation. No Speaker 2 (14:15) place in this conversation. It says, I never promised Hermione anything. All right, I was going to get a slug on his party with her, but she never said just as friends. I'm a free agent. It's like, but you wanted to go as more than friends. So did she. Right. Like, what are you talking about? Speaker 3 (14:29) Yeah. Who are you trying to convince here, my guy? I know. And also, like, I mean, to be fair, I do remember in high school or in, like, middle school, even this would be, like, a common phrase to say, like, it's a free country, you know, and, like, people would use this as basically they're, like, get a jail-free card for just about any behavior at all. Right. But, like, it feels so out of place in this particular conversation. It's like, well, I can date anyone I want. It's a free country, right? And it's like... Speaker 2 (14:54) Yeah, I mean, look, here's the other half of the free country argument. It's like it's free country means you can do whatever you want. It's like, yeah, you could do whatever you want, but that does not mean there are not consequences for what you did. Speaker 3 (15:05) Exactly. Yeah, it's like, you know, and those consequences aren't legal consequences. It's just you like Hermione. This is damaging that right. Stop doing it. Stop it. What are Speaker 2 (15:16) you doing? Oh man, so annoying. In the meantime, they have to read a book called Quintessence, a quest. Yes. Which I was like, well, this is interesting. I feel like this book must have like, okay, so if you don't know what quintessence is, it's the most perfect ideal or typical example of a quality or a thing. So you might say like she Speaker 3 (15:36) was the quintessence of grace. Oh, sure. You know, like the quintessential, the Speaker 2 (15:41) quintessential. So this is like the like, I guess like being. Like the true name of the thing, a quest. Right. Speaker 3 (15:49) Well, okay. So it's interesting because they're reading it for charms class. This almost makes me wonder if this is like where spell creation can come from, which is that like, you can't just assign an incantation to like an intent. Like it has to be, you have to discover the right words in order for the spell to work. Um, and this, this obviously like you guys know we love name of the wind, but like in name of the wind, the basic premise there is that like all things, you know, fire has a true name, right? Like fire is a calling name that we give it to speak it. But like if you were to find the true name and be able to speak it, you would then have mastery over that thing. Right. So just, that's just like an aside. But like, I think that if you were to take that same logic and then like apply it to like real world, then. like Lumos, for example, is just Latin for light. Right. And so it's almost like, did the people who invented Latin just find the true name of the word light? You know? And so like, of course, it's Speaker 2 (16:55) the Speaker 3 (16:55) incantation, not just because of like an Easter egg in terms of like how you write a story. It's like, oh, you know, if you find out it means light, it's kind of a fun fact. It's like, no, no, no, no. That's actually a part of it. Like the people who invented Latin. got it right. Right. Speaker 2 (17:07) They found the true name. They Speaker 3 (17:08) found Speaker 2 (17:08) the true name of it. And then, you know, yeah, that's it. Boom. That's why it works. Yeah. So I, maybe that does make sense. Then why maybe they're reading quintessence, a quest for charms class. Speaker 3 (17:18) Right. Right. Yes, indeed. Um, but yeah, so then, um, We've got to carry over here. I'm so sorry. Hermione's schedule was so full that Harry could only talk to her properly in the evenings when Ron was in any case so tightly wrapped around Lavender that he did not notice what Harry was doing. Speaker 2 (17:33) Gross. Speaker 3 (17:34) Which also there's been like a couple of moments in this book where Ron has walked in on Harry and Hermione and he's sort of like, what are you two up to? And it's like, it's never explicitly said that there's like underlying jealousy, but like even the way that that is, is phrased, it says that like Ron was in any case so tightly wrapped around Lavender that he did not notice Speaker 2 (17:55) what Harry was doing. Speaker 3 (17:55) Right. Like, and it's like, is the concern there that like Ron would be annoyed with Harry for still being friends with Hermione? Because surely he knows that that's true. anyway, right? Yes, Speaker 2 (18:05) but spending time specifically with Hermione alone. Speaker 3 (18:08) Oh, yes, now we're talking Speaker 2 (18:10) now. What are they up to? I know. Meanwhile, though, of course, the conversation is still about wrong. He's a perfect liberty to kiss whoever he likes. I really couldn't care less, and it's like that is so not true. Speaker 3 (18:20) Yes, you could actually you you can only you let's see here. I was trying to say you could only care more. You already care more. You care the maximum. Yeah, Speaker 2 (18:29) you could not care more. You could not care more right? Yes, yes, right exactly. Speaker 3 (18:35) Yeah, so then we've got we've got madam pince sort of prowling around, which is sort of like an interesting set up for how the rest of this is going. Oh, Speaker 2 (18:42) this is a really dumb set up. If you ask me, I agree. I think it is an unfair one. I think it is. I think it is truly an unfair clue. Speaker 3 (18:51) Yes. absolutely agree. It wrote the same thing. Okay, but yeah, so we'll get to it in just a minute. So here, while this conversation is happening is once again, just attempting to sort of like work on his own thing. So while talking to Ron, he was reading quintessence a quest. Now he is reading over advanced potion making and continuing to make notes on everlasting elixirs, which I did look a little bit of reading on. This is a very very rare moment where Hogwarts mystery might actually add a interesting piece of canon. Speaker 2 (19:22) I mean, lay it on me. Speaker 3 (19:24) Okay. So the idea of an everlasting elixir, this is the only mention of it is inside of Hogwarts mystery. Snape is like teaching you a lesson. I just found this on the Harry Potter wiki. I've never played Hogwarts mystery, but the explanation here is that he assigns everlasting elixirs and explains that these are potions that do not need to be recreated. They automatically refill of their own accord. Oh, Speaker 2 (19:48) interesting. Speaker 3 (19:49) Exactly. And the fact that Harry is specifically reading about them in this context is actually kind of interesting when you go back to the cave because there is like the right question like Regulus goes drinks the potion and is able to get the locket out. And then creature can escape with the locket. It's an everlasting Speaker 2 (20:09) elixir. Speaker 3 (20:10) It's an everlasting elixir. There Speaker 2 (20:12) you go. It refills itself. That is a useful explanation. Speaker 3 (20:15) That's what I thought too. I was like, it's very, very rare, but really all it's doing is kind of giving context that I think you could otherwise just draw from the word everlasting anyway. And this is Speaker 2 (20:26) a good example of like how non-canon things are allowed to contribute to the official canon where it's like. Like the books are the highest canon. So anything that contradicts what they say in the books doesn't count. Exactly. But if you have something like this, like this rogue fact about everlasting elixirs that doesn't contradict anything in the books and it does offer a fact inside of like a canon made object, like a vessel, like Hogwarts mystery, then it's like that can be considered canon until proven otherwise. By the books. By the books. Speaker 3 (20:57) Yeah. And so, and that's definitely like the hierarchy. It's like we can include you like in italics and sort of be like, this counts until it doesn't. Right. Exactly. Yeah. But I just thought that was interesting. Somebody, while we were just recently out on tour, specifically asked us the question, like after Regulus drinks the potion, he escapes. Voldemort never returns. Doesn't know that anybody's tampered with the potion at all. Why is it refilled when Dumbledore and Harry get there? Right. So the idea is that it's Speaker 2 (21:23) an Speaker 3 (21:23) everlasting elixir. There Speaker 2 (21:24) it is. Boom, bam. And speaking of which, though, then Hermione says, you need to be careful. And Harry's like, oh, I'm not going to read my book. And she's like, no, not that. I'm talking, I went to the girls' bathroom just before and I came in here and there were about a dozen girls in there, including Romilda Vane, trying to decide how to slip you a love potion. They're all hoping they're going to get you to take them to Slughorn's party. And they all seem to have bought Fred and George's love potions, which I'm afraid to say probably work, which this is all actually like a big setup for Ron to accidentally drink the love potion later and get sent down to Slughorn's and then get poisoned. Speaker 3 (21:55) Exactly correct. Yep. Yep. But I also think it's kind of crazy that there are a dozen girls, including Romil Devane, who are trying to decide how to slip him a love potion. It's like Hogwarts needs a higher code of ethics for its students because it's like you slughorn by his own admission describes this as like the most dangerous potion in the room. Oh, Speaker 2 (22:15) I'm so glad you said that, Ben. Because of the next page, like Harry, of course, this is me to like, why didn't you confiscate them? You know, like, excuse me, you know, people are trying to poison me. Take them. Right. Speaker 3 (22:25) You are ultimate rule Speaker 2 (22:26) stickler. And she's like, well, they didn't have the potions with them in the bathroom. And he's like, I doubt even a half-blood prince could dream up an antidote for a dozen different love potions. That's hilarious because of course he does. And it's just a bezoar. And that's what Harry uses to save Ron later. Not Speaker 3 (22:39) to mention though, because he saves Ron using the bezoar from the poison. Yeah. But like he also walks in and Slughorn whips up the potion for. or the antidote for the love potion in seconds with stuff he just has in his bag. Speaker 2 (22:51) I know. And also it's like a dozen different love potions. It's like how many different love potions are there? Isn't it just a love potion? Right? Speaker 3 (22:58) Yeah. A friend, Fred and George are like, we sent you the variety pack and they have an antidote on hand. It's right. Friend George, you might need to check your own code of ethics. Speaker 2 (23:05) Oh, I know. That's what I'm saying. I'm like, dude, you guys got to, you guys got to chill with that. Um, he says, uh, what else would you say? I just invite someone to go with you. That'll stop all the others thinking they've still got a chance. And it's just like, This is like a situation where like, I feel like the two of these, these two need to just be like, why don't we just say we're going with each other and then it'll be done. You know, I Speaker 3 (23:24) know. Yes. I mean, that is the other thing where it's sort of like, okay, you guys are best friends. Neither of you has dates. Speaker 2 (23:30) Like just, just like go together. Right. You know, then you can be then, then. you know, Ron's feelings don't have to be heard to be like me and Hermione just going as friends, you know, that's that like yeah, you don't have to worry about offending Ginny by asking a different girl because it's just like I just want Hermione like it's fine, right, you know, and like just just that and then everyone will stop doing this, you know, right like that's it not a problem, not a Speaker 3 (23:54) problem. It could have been so solved. Yeah, so this would have been a very funny moment for Harry to look over my money. You're a girl. You're Speaker 2 (24:02) a girl. Speaker 2 (24:04) exact now now that being said, just because they would be going as friends doesn't mean Ron might not be like say what now what Speaker 3 (24:10) are you Speaker 2 (24:10) guys Speaker 3 (24:10) doing in Speaker 2 (24:10) here? Speaker 3 (24:11) Yeah, you guys Speaker 1 (24:12) going to party together right? Speaker 2 (24:13) Maybe we are why you can do something about it. You want to break up with lavender about it because I would super stop going to this party with her mind. If that's what you were thinking, Speaker 3 (24:20) I'll go ask Luna. I'll go do Speaker 2 (24:23) it. Yeah, just remember I did this for you. Remember I did this for you, Ron Ron. Okay, you got it cool. We good. We good. Jenny's cute. What who said that was Speaker 3 (24:32) strange? Weird like I you guys just Speaker 2 (24:35) hear that only somebody was like a basilisk in the walls or something. I can't Speaker 3 (24:38) help but feel like I agree with what they said. I Speaker 2 (24:41) was like someone was talking about how attractive your sister was and I'm like I don't know. I Speaker 3 (24:46) mean I sort of mean I guess I know Speaker 2 (24:48) where they're coming from, but Speaker 3 (24:49) you know how do you feel about that right? Speaker 2 (24:53) Oh, man. Okay, but here's the moment. All right. It doesn't remind me to say something like love potions aren't aren't dangerous. Oh, no, she does say that. We'll get to there in a second versus us or Harry brings up. I thought Phil should bend everything bought a Weasley Wizard wheezes and what you don't know right here is that Draco Malfoy is in the library overhearing this conversation. Yes, and this is a very and look okay. Like that's fine. He's allowed to be there and overhear this, but the reader must be given an indication. Absolutely. Speaker 3 (25:26) There has to be fair play if you're going to hide it in plain sight and then actively reveal it using words spoken by the character later. Right? Speaker 2 (25:35) Yes, exactly. There needs to have been something beforehand, right? Let's just put it at that. Okay. Then it says. and then her mind he's got a coverage like a friend of George to them disguises perfumes and cough potions. It's part of that. I will order service here is like seem to know a lot about that. What do you order in love potions? You got love potions over there. She's like oh is all in the back of the bottles. They show Ginny and me this summer. I didn't go around putting potions of people's drinks or pretending to either, which is just as bad and it's like it is definitely not as bad that even remotely not even remotely the same yeah right like sorry you got outsmarted once right Speaker 3 (26:08) yeah exactly. It's like like it'd be like if we were at lunch, I like pretended to pour salt in your drink or something and it's like I can't really taste it. It's like that's because I didn't do it so I didn't Speaker 2 (26:18) do it. It's like oh Speaker 3 (26:18) all Speaker 2 (26:19) right, then that's just as bad as if you did my drink. Speaker 3 (26:23) My drink doesn't taste like salt, but it may as well have the right right, Speaker 2 (26:26) but Harry gets the root of it. The point is phil just being fooled isn't he? These girls are getting suffering in the school disguised as something else. So why couldn't Malfoy have bought the necklace into the school and of course Malfoy is listening to me like why couldn't I do that? Yeah, right, yep, yes, He does it. He does hear him say this and he will do exactly this thing. And then Hermione says, but something that's just been put in the wrong bottle wouldn't register. And anyway, love potions aren't dark or dangerous. And I'm like, excuse me, misquote the teachers everywhere. But Slughorn said word for word that it was the most dangerous potion in the room. Okay. Yes. He said that in a Speaker 3 (27:04) lesson where if you will recall, Hermione is actively earning points for Gryffindor because she is answering all of the questions about all of these potions, including a more Tensha. I Speaker 2 (27:15) know also not dark or dangerous. I mean, my goodness has Harry already had the lesson where he learns about how Voldemort was created with using a love potion to trick Tom Riddle senior. I think he has. We're doing these a little bit out of order. Yeah, Speaker 3 (27:28) no, he has. Yeah, no, he's definitely already had Speaker 2 (27:30) that right. Speaker 3 (27:31) Yeah, so here he could be like you know what tell that to Tom Riddle senior right yeah, not does that sound Speaker 2 (27:35) dark. or dangerous to you. Speaker 3 (27:38) Exactly, exactly. But then also you go back to Hermione. She's like an incidentally said Hermione after a few minutes. You need to be careful. And she says I went into the bathroom and there was about a dozen girls trying to decide how to slip you a love potion. It's like you yourself. Hermione just said to be careful. Why do I need to be careful if they're not dangerous? Speaker 2 (27:56) Exactly, exactly. Love potions aren't dark or dangerous. My goodness. Also, Harry's got such an obvious point like Filch is the last person who should be doing this. Like there are members. the order of the phoenix they should be the one checking bottles this is a very very obvious way to sneak things into the castle yes you know right like this is like what are you doing teenagers do this to be like, oh no, we didn't drink any liquor. You know, we just refilled it with apple juice. You know, like this is this is the oldest trick in the book, right? Speaker 3 (28:27)
