Speaker 3 (0:01) Hello and welcome to The Turret. This is the podcast by fans of the Traitors, for fans of the Traitors. I'm Callum MacDonald. Hello. This is a brand new thing. Every evening after the Celebrity Traitors has been on TV, we are live streaming the conversation that you just started on your sofa. But now you can join us too to reflect on the drama and the surprises, the twists and Claudia's outfits. We are buzzing. I'm sure you are too. Let's welcome our friends this evening. Sam Ramsden, who's the brains behind the memes of the Traitors HQ. Hello, Sam. Hi, Callum. It's so good to see you. Speaker 4 (0:38) Traitors HQ face reveal. Speaker 3 (0:40) Yeah, I was going to say, I feel like you've been fairly anonymous till now and we're kind of, you know, bringing you to the people. Is that okay? Of course, yeah. I mean, the fans can be, you know, they're opinionated. Speaker 3 (0:51) I'm sure they'll love you as much Speaker 4 (0:53) as we do, Speaker 3 (0:53) Sam. Don't worry about that. And also joining us in the turret this evening, TV journalist and critic and Traitor superfan Scott Bryan. Hey, Scott. Hello, how are you? Yeah, I'm very well, thank you. So good to see you. And the wonderful Nat O'Leary. Hi, Nat. Speaker 1 (1:06) Hello, I'm so excited to be here. Speaker 3 (1:09) I know, I'm absolutely buzzing. I'm so glad that the Traitors is back. Shall we start, Sam, with how the first episode felt for you? By comparison to last year, are you Speaker 4 (1:20) excited by this lineup of celebs? I am, yeah. I mean, obviously it has like a lot to live up to because last year was such a smash. And you know that Alan Carr of it all. But as soon as I saw the lineup, I was, I think it might be stronger than last year. But yeah, the episode felt, it felt really different, which is, I think that's a good thing. You never want like a repetitive season. So yeah, I'm feeling good about that. I definitely just felt different. The twist is different. Yeah, the cast seems strong and obviously we have the Lord of Chaos, Richard, already. Oh my days. Do Speaker 3 (1:55) you mean this Speaker 4 (1:55) guy? What are you? Speaker 3 (1:57) Traitor. He's a traitor. He's outed himself straight away now. What's he thinking? Speaker 1 (2:02) Can I just say most iconic part of the series so far? I don't know if we're going to get more iconic than that. We had Alan Carr last year. Now Richard is absolutely taking the crown. I was like, what is he doing? But clearly, first of all, I was a bit like, okay, it's a double bluff. But then he kept saying it and I was like, babes, babes, babes, you're not meant to tell people you're a traitor. Like, have you watched this before? But I think it works well as a double bluff. No one's ever done it to my recollection, like being that bullshit. So I actually, I think it was pretty iconic. Speaker 2 (2:31) Go on, Scott. I mean, I would say Richard D. Grant is without a doubt, hand on heart, the worst traitor of all time. It's a pretty stupid position, isn't there? Because even... Linda, God bless her, lasted until like episode five and was able to act poorly, but she was trying, God bless her, and she was like really trying to act her way through it. What Linda didn't do was tell everybody that he was a traitor within two minutes of being picked as a traitor in a room with all of the faithfuls in. And then what is driving me round the bend is how everyone else is like, nah, I just don't think he could be a traitor. It's like, he just admitted it. He just told everyone at once, like, honest to God, this show, if he wins, I'm going to absolutely positively lose it. I know. He also Speaker 3 (3:22) said it repeatedly. He was asked several times and he just doubled and tripled and quadrupled down on it. Speaker 2 (3:29) And then asked to rescind it. If Speaker 1 (3:31) I was him, like if I was in the, if I was one of the members, I would be like, if I was one of the cast, I would be like, he's definitely not a traitor. He's definitely not a traitor. He's double bluffing. Like this is a whole thing. I would be the person, Scotty, that's like, no, he's not a traitor. And you'd be like, oh, she's off it, mate. Speaker 4 (3:48) I feel like they're onto him though. I feel like this will, Yeah, I feel like this will backfire. I mean, there's a few of them that are like, oh no, that's just Richard, but I feel like they know him in real life. I think the ones that don't, I feel like it will backfire on him. Speaker 2 (4:01) I think it was the fact that he tried to do his bizarre treble quadruple bluff when he was asked about it the next day or during dinner, when he said, oh, I was just excited about being on for Traitors, so I said that I was going to be a Traitor whilst not being a Traitor. as a way to show people that I'm not a traitor. I was like, babes, I don't think that works. I just don't think that works. I think he's dug himself a grave and he's getting in it quick. Speaker 1 (4:28) It was when Maya said to him the night before in the turret and she was like, right, babes, you're an actor, go back, learn your lines and come forward with what you're thinking tomorrow. And he did, but it was just not the, you're right, Scotty, like I just felt like it was very, I think he had been rehearsing that in the mirror. Speaker 3 (4:41) Do you? I think what's amazing about the celebrity one is they can be so composed in the sort of one-on-one interviews with Claudia or whatever, but actually when you get them all in the room together, they do sort of disintegrate. I genuinely think they're nervous when they're doing this. Speaker 1 (4:57) I actually think at one point, there was a really nice moment, I'm a huge Maya drama fan, obviously, I mean, I'm a big fan of everybody on the cast, but Maya, I mean, her fashion, as soon as she walked in, I was like, I'm just obsessed with this girl. But the point when she was in the turret, no, it was actually on the round table. It was on the round table when they all took the blindfolds off. I was like, oh girl, like, I felt like she was not giving it away, but I don't know. I guess it's just I've watched on my TV for so long. I was like, oh, I think that I would know you were a traitor here. Like she didn't really. specifically give anything away but I could just see this this look on her face maybe I've watched her too much clearly but yeah I felt like I watched her then and in the turret maybe genuinely look a bit frightened by the situation by what was going on which I love because it just makes everybody human and amazing yeah yeah Speaker 2 (5:44) I could definitely sense that everyone's a little bit more nervous this year I think it's just because the first series was such a gargantuan hit and then this is obviously them kind of following in its footsteps but when they were all in the chapel at the start like they were definitely a lot less chatty apart from um julia hesman hall who was just going around one by one shaking everyone's hand and saying that she's a massive fan which is just like immediate immediate iconic behavior but also if you were a civilian you would be like banished and murdered without a doubt because everyone would think that's suspicious behavior but she's able to get away with it because it is it is her i enjoyed that Speaker 3 (6:22) Should we also talk a bit about the paranoia as well, as we kind of like focus in on what's made episode one stand out. And actually, Sam, in our group chat, you were picking up on actually how everyone seems to be obsessed with what was happening in the last series. And they've brought that with them into playing this game. Speaker 4 (6:39) Yeah, I mean, we had like James instantly looking around the castle, looking at the perfume bottles, looking at the paintings. And then we had, was it the bell up of the hat on Ross? Yeah. completely paranoid, by the way. He's getting to him already. And then obviously, I forget, what was the last point? They referred back to, oh, the comedian theory, obviously referring to Alan Carr without saying his name. See, I feel like it's like human nature. You're obviously going to refer back to what you've just seen. And you can tell it's already, that's affecting their suspicions, which obviously, if you've seen the show before, you should never do because every series is completely different to one another. But yeah, definitely impacting. their suspicions early on. Yeah. Speaker 1 (7:19) It was quite funny as well that Ross, as soon as Bella put the hat on him, he's like, Bella's just put a hat on me. Bella's just put a hat on me. And then later on when Leanne grabbed his arm, he's like, she's just grabbed my arm. He's another end of the entertainment spectrum that I'm really loving. Like Richard E. Granite has given us the awful traitor and Ross Kemp has given us the most paranoid faithful of all time. It's a really good mix. Speaker 2 (7:41) It's so funny. Go on, Scott. Sorry. So I don't know whether Ross Kemp realises that you can't be murdered in plain sight 14 consecutive times in a row. Speaker 1 (7:53) I think someone needs to tell him. They really do. Speaker 3 (7:57) So what he thought, it was the sailor's hat and then it was being brushed on the arm and he was also worried about anybody giving him drinks, I think, were the ones that I picked up on. He's like, he's freaking out. Speaker 1 (8:07) He's spiralling. On day one? On day one? Like, come on, Ross, you're meant to be. I thought as the SAS man that he is, Speaker 2 (8:16) I thought that Speaker 1 (8:17) he would be, I mean, I say SAS, he's like, his documentaries are iconic. He's been in a lot of tough situations. He even mentioned like doing a documentary on the cartel, for instance. But he's going under on day one on the traitors and I do love to see it. I really do. I'm thinking, how did you really do in those situations, Ross? Like, was it edited? Yeah, Speaker 3 (8:37) I think the editing must have been kind. I mean, it's one of those things,
