Speaker 1 (0:00) So the show's out now, what are you most excited for people to see? Speaker 4 (0:03) I'm putting on it. Well, that's a change, isn't it? I'm going to get into some listener questions. What does it say? Well, this is involving Shabba. If Speaker 1 (0:12) you're walking up the stairs, you put your finger up his bum and go, Shabba. You've Speaker 4 (0:14) got to walk up sideways. Like Speaker 1 (0:16) a crab up the bum. Speaker 4 (0:19) This one is from Peter Crouch. Did you once throw a milkshake at Abbey when you were younger? Yeah. I might have spilled it. Speaker 1 (0:32) Hello and welcome to The Therapy Crouch with me, Abby Clancy. Me, Speaker 4 (0:35) Peter Crouch. And today, I've got a beautiful Colleen and Wayne. Hi. Speaker 3 (0:40) Where's the beautiful Wayne? Speaker 4 (0:42) You know what, I was going to start with you. How are you? All good, mate. All good, yeah. Yeah, Speaker 1 (0:49) very good. Nice to have some scousers on for a change. Do you know when we were having that fight last night? Yeah. You were so scouse to me, by the way. Was I? I keep forgetting to tell you this. Was I? I've only just remembered it now. Yeah. Speaker 3 (1:00) You're like, Speaker 1 (1:01) who are you talking to? Speaker 4 (1:02) What was I? Speaker 1 (1:04) Oh, my Speaker 4 (1:04) God. Speaker 2 (1:07) Like Speaker 3 (1:07) that? Speaker 2 (1:07) Oh, my God. I know. You're like, do you want to go now? No, so you've got an after-putter. I Speaker 3 (1:12) know, Speaker 2 (1:12) exactly. Speaker 4 (1:12) That's Speaker 3 (1:12) it. Speaker 4 (1:13) So talk us through the show, right? You're on Disney +, Real Rudies. Talk us through it. What's it been like filming it, first and foremost? Because myself and Ab are doing something essentially similar. How have you found it? Speaker 2 (1:26) It gets easier. Speaker 4 (1:27) Yeah? It does get Speaker 2 (1:28) easier. I think at the beginning, we had a little taste of it when we both done our individual documentaries. So they touched on a bit of family life. Whereas obviously with kids, it's totally different when, you know, when there's more filming. So when we first started, we said, listen, we are a normal family, obviously living in this. or extraordinary Speaker 1 (1:52) world Speaker 2 (1:52) your house is amazing thank you but you know there's days where they mightn't want to and they might play up or whatever and then that's fine with us but you've got to expect that there might be kids missing some days when you want them there but there's not one we could do or I did yeah Speaker 3 (2:08) yeah Speaker 2 (2:08) there was a few days where yeah I was sweating and he was still in bed you Speaker 4 (2:14) come down the stairs you see the cameras go yeah and go back up yeah Speaker 2 (2:19) my aunt clay clay a few times he'd come down and he'd go ah why are these here and I'd be like just don't get him today and he'd go around and eat his breakfast like somewhere else but you knew that was like it was it Speaker 1 (2:32) was bad news yeah I Speaker 4 (2:33) think Speaker 1 (2:35) I think it's obviously when you do your work and then you come home that's kind of like your safe place I I know we like divulge a lot of our lives on this podcast but I found it like a completely different thing well that's Speaker 2 (2:50) why Speaker 1 (2:50) in your house I've Speaker 2 (2:52) said Speaker 1 (2:52) about doing it you're exposing yourself Speaker 3 (2:53) aren't you as well and you as parents as as husband and wife. And so you're putting it all out there for people to see and judge, really. I'm like that Scouse meme. Speaker 1 (3:02) Have you seen it where the dog eats the dog? Fucking I don't know! But that's, but that, you've just hit the spot Speaker 2 (3:09) there. Everything plays out on socials Speaker 1 (3:12) and Speaker 2 (3:12) that nowadays. And remember years ago when, like, the Osbournes and that's on it, it was, it was like, oh my God, they're letting us into their home. Whereas now, I do think it is quite normal. Speaker 1 (3:22) Yeah. But Speaker 2 (3:23) not just for people in the public eye, for everyone. But Speaker 4 (3:27) you guys obviously have been so thrust into it from so early. And you've been like, yeah, I suppose for me, when I got in England, Scott, it was like 2005. By that time, I was like 24, 25. You were 16, 15, 16. People knew about you really at like 14, 15. You were making waves as a kid. Then 16, you're together. and then it just goes crazy right as soon as you make your debut yeah so really as as adults Speaker 3 (3:54) we've been used to our whole life really and so we've had to learn to deal with the pressure of that and and it's been difficult at times it's been really difficult um i know i struggled um at times with the pressure of it and probably didn't show that then but when i've looked back i've realized how tough it was and um So that was why it was such a big decision for us to do that. And our kids, pictures of them are in the papers. They have been since they were young or they're on social media. And we spoke to the kids before we were doing it. And they weren't sure, as any kids probably wouldn't be, but we made the decision to do it. And the more we were doing it, the more we were filming, the kids grew into it and enjoyed it. We actually had a car the other day, didn't we? saying to us we should do more which Speaker 2 (4:43) I was shocked yeah he's seen some clips of it and he was like yeah Speaker 1 (4:47) it looks alright actually Speaker 2 (4:49) I always Speaker 1 (4:50) show Sophia Kai oh yeah because he's doesn't he speak Spanish yeah he's playing the football he's Speaker 2 (4:56) just Speaker 1 (4:56) done his GCSEs and He got a nine in Spanish, Speaker 2 (5:00) didn't he? And he's doing his Spanish A level. Still, like, obviously, he's in full-time football, but you still have to do the education. But it's, you know, every time I go away with, like, the girls, I'm in a taxi coming home from a night out, and I'm like that. Speaker 3 (5:15) I speak to the taxi driver. And I put it on loud Speaker 2 (5:18) like a proud mum. That is unreal. And Speaker 1 (5:20) he's like, what Speaker 2 (5:20) are you doing? I just speak to him. He doesn't know. He knows quite well where we're going. And then I just love it. And he's done it all himself. Obviously, he's learned it in school, but he's Speaker 1 (5:30) had Speaker 2 (5:30) no extra. He's just picked it up himself. That is so impressive. That Speaker 1 (5:34) is Speaker 2 (5:34) incredible. Sophia Speaker 1 (5:35) dropped Spanish. And I'm like, when you're going to be a tennis player all over the world, you're going to need that. And they just don't listen. But for yours to... do that on his own. That's a good thing because when I Speaker 4 (5:44) was pissed, she's fluent in French as well. I Speaker 1 (5:47) actually am. I genuinely can't remember when I'm sober. I can't remember it, but like when I'm drunk, I'm like, it all comes back. It all comes back. Why are you stitching me up? Speaker 4 (5:58) But with regards to that, obviously, you know, I suppose you signed up for it to play football. You're getting first through at 16, there's going to be a spotlight. I suppose you just together, right? You end up in that world. How was that for you in the early days? Speaker 2 (6:11) Yeah, obviously that picture of going to school, that was the first picture that was in the press. Now, if you thought of that, it's like, oh my God, there was this man taking a picture of me walking to school. But I think what was good, we was young. We had to grow up quick, but we were in it together. Even though we were in totally different positions, he dragged me into it. He dragged you into it. And then we just, we went through it together. And I think having that, you know young heads on your shoulders you you don't take it too seriously at the time um and then obviously you do you you have your ups and downs and you do have to live everything's in the the media and the spotlight but the good thing for us we've had a really solid support system yeah i think that pays a massive part Speaker 1 (7:02) in it plays a massive part in it and that era as well was It was so diabolical, like the press. They could say whatever they wanted. Awful. Like my dad, like when me and Pete first got together, my dad still got it framed in his kitchen. It was like a picture of me like out with the girls, like pissed. And they'd like cut me out. And then Pete like looking all innocent in his little Ingon kit. And the headline was... Little? Little, yeah, big. Speaker 4 (7:26) It's too Speaker 1 (7:27) small. The headline was, My Hell with Mad Abbey. And my dad still got it framed in his kitchen. I think it was on like the front of the... or something I was just like oh but you know it's like kind of being like propelled into the public eye because of who you go out with it's a really it's a lot of pressure and you've been married 18 years now yeah Speaker 2 (7:48) it's a long time now isn't it Speaker 3 (7:50) yeah I think see I've had fun I think it's gone quite quick no I Speaker 1 (7:54) think Speaker 2 (7:55) 18 years is like when you think like that yeah it doesn't seem that long ago how long have you been married Speaker 2 (8:04) 15? Speaker 4 (8:05) 14? 2011 Speaker 1 (8:07) we got married 15 but we've been together 21 years it's Speaker 3 (8:12) a Speaker 1 (8:12) long time I've been with them longer than I've been half my life it Speaker 3 (8:17) is a long time I think it's I think it's always trying to keep it fresh and you have some bad moments hard moments, tough moments and unfortunately for us it's that's been all over the newspapers same um no but then you Speaker 4 (8:34) have Speaker 3 (8:35) to be strong and to get through that moment you have to be strong and we have haven't we got through that moment and i think fast forward into today it's where we're in a place and you'll see in the show i was struggling with getting sacked and yeah i didn't know where you know me you you love it when you stop playing football and i'd stop coaching and then you didn't know i didn't know where where to go really to try and go back into coaching do you try and um do a go-down TV route and whatever, and then you see that early in the show, don't you, where I'm struggling, and that's probably why I was having a few lines. That's a hard time. You had Speaker 1 (9:12) a bit of a wobble at that stage as well, didn't you? It's all you've ever Speaker 4 (9:15) known, right? It's all you've ever known is that, especially for you, because you were like, straight away, it was like liftoff into this world, and all you've ever known, that adjuration and the fans and everyone knowing you, and then all of a sudden it's like, bang, right, well, I'm at home now. Speaker 3 (9:30) And obviously, Speaker 4 (9:31) you know, whatever's happened with management and that's happened and like, where do you go now? And it's difficult to kind of get your head around and you struggled with it and it's good being honest, I suppose, with it. Speaker 3 (9:41) Yeah, no. And getting back into the routine with the kids as well. And Speaker 2 (9:46) I found it hard because I think I've lived most, like, all my life planning without him in it. And then if he's there, it's a bonus, do you know? Like, so I just think, just plan ahead and then if he's there, great but then him coming back in full time and then um asking do you want me to do the school run do you know Speaker 1 (10:08) like well it's your kids as well just coming to you know do you get that hard do you get that i've been i've Speaker 2 (10:15) minded the kids all day i'm Speaker 1 (10:16) like they're Speaker 2 (10:17) your kids you haven't minded them or said is like when when you say i was is Wayne babysitting or was Peter babysitting? No, I know. They're Speaker 1 (10:27) not Speaker 2 (10:27) babysitting. They're Speaker 1 (10:27) not Speaker 2 (10:27) babysitting. Speaker 4 (10:29) They're being fathers. Well, Peter, because I Speaker 1 (10:31) normally hate, not hate weekends, but like weekends, I know that be the same for you. It's like tennis, football, swimming, this, that. And it's like crazy. And like Pete was always at work and now he's not working every week. He was like, I want to quit weekend work. Stayed more time with the kids and now he's like, fuck Speaker 3 (10:51) this. Isn't this all Speaker 1 (10:53) weekends? Speaker 3 (10:54) That's where it comes from. From my point of view anyway, having four boys, I Speaker 1 (10:59) think, Speaker 3 (10:59) because it's all football, isn't it? The weekends and they're getting earlier as well, aren't Speaker 2 (11:03) they? Speaker 3 (11:03) Half a kick-off, Speaker 1 (11:04) like an hour away. Speaker 2 (11:06) It's Speaker 3 (11:06) like, Speaker 1 (11:06) come on, we don't leave that time for school. Yeah, I'm like, how is this my job?
