Speaker 2 (1:27) Guys, my team told me that 73 % viewers who watch our show regularly have not subscribed yet. Speaker 2 (1:57) put a double down just to give audience what she was saying, अभी आप यह गहरे थे कि जो हमारा young population है, the demographic dividend, what is our hope for the future in this country, work taking time मौंबे बैठा है, और mental health crisis सिर्फ धीमे धीमे accelerate ही हो रहा है, मेरा sense यह है कि mental health as a concern probably appears post prosperity, we are watching maybe only the first generation जिसके parents ने घर save कर लिया है, तो suddenly खाने पीने को है, अच्छा then one of the underspoken aspects is how much does social media completely come in and change the way people look at things and जो young social media exposure है वो बहुत ही impressionable social media exposure है ऐसा तो हो नहीं रहा कि घर में भी पंगे कम हो रहे हैं कि parents की fights कम हो रही हो या कोई traumatic event यहां वहां कम हो रहा हो तो it is true in fact कि trauma and mental health concerns are skyrocketing इस विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष Speaker 1 (2:56) विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विशेष विश हमें यह लगता है कि वो यह बहुत common narrative है कि basic needs meet हो गई, पैसे आ गई, तभी depression आता है, ऐसा नहीं है, mental health और दुनिया का इतना 30 साल का research यह भी कहता है कि यह जो mental health challenges है और यह trauma की वज़े से mental health है, वो तो across the countries है, across demographics है, across cultures है, ऐसा कुछ नहीं है कि एक particular, you know, developed nation में जादा है, underdeveloped मे Speaker 1 (3:51) are messed up more now than ever before, Speaker 2 (3:53) ये Speaker 1 (3:53) reality है, Speaker 2 (3:54) और क्यों messed up है और, Speaker 1 (3:55) बहुत से कारण है, society बदल रही है, समाज हमारा कितना बदल गया है, pressures कितने बढ़ रहे है, पहले जो family system होती थी, वो और आज की family system में बहुत फरक है, तो बहुत सारे factors है, social media है, technology है, जितने हम social media पे connections बनाने आये थे, उतने ही हम lonely हो जा Speaker 1 (4:20) big problem, they are the most lonely generation, Speaker 2 (4:23) unique finding, Speaker 1 (4:25) yes you can see this, and how is it, it is ironical, because हम तो insta पे, social पे, facebook पे, सब पे ये generation सबसे जादा है, सब कुछ तो हमें Speaker 2 (4:35) पता है, सबसे तो हम connected है, Speaker 1 (4:36) but Speaker 2 (4:37) emotional loneliness है, Speaker 1 (4:38) emotional loneliness है, और ये loneliness की वज़े से बाकी का जो आ रहा है, depression आ रहा है, उसकी वज़े से बच्चों पे निकल रहा है, chronic stress, health issues, ये सब वहीं से आ रहा है, addictions, Speaker 2 (4:51) तो Speaker 1 (4:52) ये एक बहुत बड़ा problem है, और unfortunately ये जो पहले की पीडियां थी न, उसमें ये इतना नहीं दिख रहा है, जितनी ये new generation में दिख Because of course new generation report Speaker 2 (5:44) Interesting. I want to talk about childhood trauma, और childhood trauma किस तरीके से directly shape Speaker 2 (6:00) बच्चमन के कितने impressionable time में ऐसी चीज़े हो जाती है that you continue supporting and behaving with for the rest of your life and I have about 10 different traumatic behaviors बोलूंगा यह ऐसा behavior जो हम exhibit करते Speaker 1 (6:14) हैं Speaker 2 (6:14) problematic behaviors बोल सकते हैं and I want to get to the root of it now 10 might be too many so we'll start and see where it goes yes yes absolutely but my first question is ma'am childhood trauma होता क्या है and what counts as childhood trauma Speaker 1 (6:29) देखे चाइल्डूट ट्रॉमा जिसको हम हिंदी में बच्चपन के प्रतिकुल अनुभव मतलब बच्चपन में जो चीजें जो एक्सपीरियंस है जिससे आपको दुख हुआ हो दर्ध हुआ हो तकलीफ हुई हो शर्म आई हो गिल्ट फील हुआ हो वो ट्रॉमा गिना जाता ह Speaker 1 (6:57) उससे उस पर impact पड़ती है और ये अनुभव अगर negative है जैसे मैंने कहा अगर abuse है, violence है उसमें तो वो trauma गिना जाता है और ये trauma जिसको हम childhood trauma या बच्पन के प्रतिकुल अनुभव कहते है नॉर्मल ये 0 to 18 years में जो होते हैं वो एक foundation है जिसके उपर आपकी पूरी जिंदगी है और इसके impact हम तीन groups में लगा सकते हैं एक तो impact on self मतलब खुद का perception किस तरह से ये trauma से effect करता है जैसे simple example इस अगर आप बच्चपन से सुनते आयो कि तुम duffer हो तुम duffer हो तुमसे कुछ नहीं होगा तुमें तो maths आती नहीं है तुमें numbers नहीं आते हैं तो आपका sense of self change होता ज इस विश्वास कम हो जाता है, self-worth, you grow up in shame. दूसरा level it affects is, it affects the way you see the world. Speaker 1 (8:27) right, how you see yourself, how you see the world around you, and how you see your relationships. Speaker 2 (8:32) And is violence or abuse a necessary condition for trauma, or is there any trauma without it? Speaker 1 (8:40) No, no, violence is not Speaker 2 (8:42) only Speaker 1 (8:42) abusive, it is a very small part, in fact, physical abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, we all understand that it is trauma, but the subtle kind of trauma, which is like a laser, Speaker 1 (8:54) जाता है जिसके स्कार्स दिखते नहीं है शरीर पर अपने साइकी पर स्कार्स दिखते हैं वो है emotional abuse emotional neglect हमने suicide पे behaviors पे research किया था तो उसमें हमें ये दिखने को मिला कि जिन लोगों ने suicide attempt किया है suicide के thoughts आते हैं उनमें emotional neglect बहुत जादा है almost 90 % of them emotional neglect and emotional abuse मतलब Speaker 1 (9:18) यह चीज है, मतलब यह है कि आप बच्चे को मारते पीटते नहीं हो, बट emotional abuse मतलब आप constantly बच्चे को feel कराते हो कि you are useless, तुम नलायक हो, तुम बिकार हो, तुमसे कुछ नहीं होता है, जैसे constantly बच्चों को डराना, उनको धंकाना, उनको नीचा दिखाना, उनको humiliate करना, उनको shameful Speaker 1 (9:44) पैदा ही हुए मुझे दुखी करने के लिए, इन इस वर्ष इन वर्ष को बच्चे की भावनाओं को बिलकुल नकार ना, मतलब बच्चे को चाया बच्चा खाना पीना दो, इंटरनाशनल स्कूल में भेजो, सब कुछ करो, पर बच्चे कि emotions क्या है, उसकी feelings क्या है, उसको बिल्कुल ध्यान नहीं दो, बच्चे को एक performance machine बना दो, बेटा marks लाया तो chocolate मिलेगा, marks लाया तो तारीफ मिलेगी, अच्छा behave किया तो, बच्चे का point of view है, बच्चा आज दुखी है, आज गुस्से में है, आज बच्चे को के साथ धोका हु मेरे लिए कोई नहीं है जो मेरी बात समझे, मेरी भावनाओं को समझे, मेरे साथ बातचीत करे, there is nobody for me. This is the beginning of loneliness in childhood. And emotional neglect or emotional abuse are extremely deadly forms of traumas. 90 % of them have had high trauma childhood trauma emotional neglect emotional abuse है ही है उसके साथ physical abuse भी होता है bullying बहुत बड़ा element है उसके स्कूल में जो होता है ना काला, छोटा, मोटा उसको कह कह कह बुलाते हैं सब गदा है ये सूवर है all kinds of things in school और school में बच्चों को जो bullying और isolation होता है उससे भी तो ये scars physical नहीं रहते हैं देखें म लोग आज हमारे समाज में इतने तो aware हैं कि वो समझते हैं कि मारना पीटना गलत बात है, sexual abuse गलत बात है, पर ये सब चीज़ों के बारे में नहीं जानते हैं, और ये बहुत dangerous हैं. Speaker 2 (12:53) मैं हर बार ये बात बोलता हूँ, पता नहीं ये podcast में रहेगी की नहीं, this is an observation I had in my 20s, मैं 20s में Speaker 2 (13:10) इस विशेष के लिए एक प्रश्नलिति प्रॉब्लम बना गया था और उसमें एक प्रश्नलिति प्रॉब्लम बना गया था और उसमें एक प्रश्नलिति प्रॉब्लम बना गया था और उसमें एक प्रश्नलिति प्रॉब्लम बना गया था और उसमें एक प्रश्नलिति प्रॉ Speaker 1 (13:38) इसके साथ यह Speaker 2 (13:39) हो गया, अब वो फुल 30 साल का मर्ग बन गया है, strong है, पैसा कमाता है, बट उसकी internal shame इतनी heavy है कि मैं कुछ नहीं कर पाया जब वो हो रहा था, और उसको पता नहीं उसके साथ deal कैसे करना है, and the avoidance of that is so heavy, and so many things start occurring in their person, and understated fact, women probably have it way more. Speaker 1 (13:56) नहीं, see, मैंने भी study किया है, ज as a child बताया है, या as a बाद में, 20 साल बाद as an adult बताया है, अपने husband को, mother को, कभी भी, पर males में तो, बताते ही नहीं है, I know men, जिनोंने अपनी खुद की बीवियों को नहीं बताया है, कि मेरे साथ sexual abuse हुआ था childhood में, therapist is the first one to know, after 30 years, 40 years or 50 years, क्यों? men भी तो उतने ही sexual abuse men have as much shame, hurt, pain, guilt, fear as women क्यों इसके बारे में बातचीत कोई नहीं करता है और ये उनकी relationships को affect करता है, उनकी sexual life को affect करता है, उनकी intimacy issues होते हैं बहुत सारी और फिर वो अपने बच्चों के लिए इतने paranoid हो जाते हैं कई लोगों को तो खुद sexual orientation issues होने लगते हैं because of repeated sexual Speaker 2 (14:54) तो Speaker 1 (14:54) मैंने भी बहुत सारे ऐसे मर्दों के साथ कहा, पर वो बताते ही नहीं, और अपने दोस्तों को भी नहीं बताते, लड़कियों मैंने यह देखा है कि अपनी दोस्तों के साथ तो बाचीत करते हैं, मतलब ममी पापा को चोलो नहीं बताया, डर के मारे, but at least they tell a friend, they tell somebody, लड़ Speaker 2 (15:21) I had somebody even forget, उसको halfway through a meditation, उसको memory pop up करती है, कि मेरे साथ यह बच्चपन में हुआ है, and so he calls me after, funnily enough, he is the only one I know, जिसके साथ CSA हुआ है, जिसकी life में इतना impact directly नहीं दिखता, very healthy, psychologically fine, intimacy, all good, and उसका response was also, he was laughing, कहना था, मेरे को यह कहां से आदा गया, like what is this shit, see I want to say this, कि Speaker 1 (15:44) जब आप meditation करने जा silent meditation खास करके, तो जो भी आपका अंदर का कच्रा है न, जो भी implicit body memories हैं, वो surface होती हैं, क्योंकि अभी आपके coping structures नहीं हैं, आपकी दिवारे, दरवाजे खुल रहे हैं धीरे धीरे, तो जो भी कच्रा है वो बार आता है, इसलिए हम हमेशा कहते हैं कि अगर आपकी trauma history है, बहुत Speaker 2 (16:12) स Speaker 1 (16:13) सिलेंट मेडिटेशन बहुत बढ़ा है। Speaker 2 (17:11) case in point me no Speaker 1 (17:13) I don't know if you face that no I'm joking but a guy taking psychology told me this कि मैं बोलोग पहते है तो लड़की वाला काम है right yeah Speaker 2 (17:20) I hear Speaker 1 (17:21) you Speaker 2 (17:21) I know we deviated no no I have a question tell me going back to childhood trauma क्या childhood trauma loving और अच्छी healthy families में भी होत Speaker 1 (17:33) loving healthy क्या होता है मतलब, Speaker 2 (17:34) मतलब सब ठीक है, like there is no meaning, बाहर से ठीक है, हाँ, नहीं, मतलब कोई ऐसा sinister अंदर खराब है, बाहर ठीक है भी नहीं, suppose parents are well meaning, suppose parents are good, suppose parents are caring, तो Speaker 1 (17:44) फिर नहीं होगा न, see if parents are giving positive childhood experiences, तो trauma नहीं होगा, पर वो क्या है, मतलब बाहर से, see बाहर से families कई बार हमें दिख mother खुद हमेशा hyper रहती है helicopter parent बनके रहती अभी ये बाहर से खराब parenting नहीं दिखता है mother हमेशा बच्ची का सब curate करा है उसने ये time पे पड़ेगी, ये time पे juice, ये time पे healthy खाना, ये time पे उसकी play dates होगी, तो that also is causing a lot of anxiety amongst children तो what is healthy happy family is a very subjective thing मैंने कई बार देखा है कि जो मम्या relatively hands off होत Speaker 1 (18:51) बच्चे कहीं पे भी गलती ना करें, कहीं पे भी गिरें नहीं, बच्चे को कुछ पी प्रॉब्लम नहीं होना चाहिए. Speaker 2 (19:28) Interesting. Speaker 1 (19:29) This is the polar opposite of abusive environment. No, no. So, Speaker 1 (21:38) trauma can be, see, if the environment is traumatic तो दोनों को trauma होगा, but किस तरह से trauma वो interpret करते हैं? See, trauma is not based on the event. Trauma is based on Speaker 2 (21:53) Say more. मैं behavior put forth करूँगा, you explain to me what's happening, what might have happened, what can they do, etc. We'll cover the rest of it. So the first behavior I have. हिमान्चू please देख लेना ये camera पर आ जाए is people pleasing और उसके symptoms generally ऐसे होते हैं कि मिरको Speaker 2 (26:43) वो Speaker 1 (26:44) फिर निकलता है addictions में, smoking, drinking, self-harming, you know addictions या numbing out, you know या तो फिर निकलता है और अलग तरीके से लोग फिर उसको cope up करते हैं उसको समझ नहीं आता कि इतना pain इतना गुस्सा है या तो फिर क्या करते हैं कि एक आद बार volcano की तरह इनका गुस्सा बाहर आ जाता Speaker 2 (27:04) है unexpected Speaker 1 (27:05) times पे फिर और भी ज़्यादा शर्म आती है इसलिए और भी ज़्यादा दबाते ह Speaker 1 (27:16) निकलता है फिर अपने बच्चों पे, अपने परिवार पे Speaker 2 (27:19) तो impact on self तो हो गया addiction, impact on the world और impact on relationships कैसे दिख सकता है Speaker 1 (27:25) इसमें क्या होता है कि relationships में initially अच्छा लगता है ये बन्दा, सबको पसंद आता है, हाँ हाँ हाँ हाँ, पर इसके साथ एक inauthenticity आती है, fakeness आती है न, लोगों को स Speaker 1 (27:41) एक फसाद बना के घूमता है, सबको हाँ हाँ हाँ, जैसे वो sales pitch होती है न, सबको हाँ हाँ please करो, but real intimate relationships में, ये disillusionment आ जाता है, क्योंकि आपने हाँ बोला, पर आप करे नहीं, आपने वीवी को बोला था कि हाँ हाँ, हम कर लेंगे, नहीं किया आपने, हाँ हाँ, फिर और कु Speaker 1 (28:19) एक और बड़ी चीज होती है कि वो दूसरों को भी फिर एक्सपेक्ट करता है कि लोग भी मुझे सामने ऐसा रखें और वो होता नहीं है तो फिर at a later age यह हो जाता है, disillusionment हो जाता है, कि मैं सब की खुशी देखता हूँ, मेरी खुशी तो कोई देखता नहीं, पर भाई आपने किसने आपको बोला था कि आप अपनी, आपको खुद पता है आपको क्या चाहिए, most of them don't know what they want because they have never learnt to Speaker 2 (28:40) recognize, yes, मेरा Speaker 1 (28:44) क्या point of view मुझे पता ही Speaker 1 (28:52) तो fake confidence, fake persona, fakeness आ जाती है Speaker 2 (28:57) जिसको I don't know if you are aware एक word नया चलने लगा है Gen Z में performative अच्छा हाँ have you heard of this word? No So Speaker 1 (29:05) ये एक aesthetic है performative where Speaker 2 (29:06) it's a slightly funny thing performative males करके एक species होती है that perform for the pleasure of women have you heard of pick me girls? No So pick me girls are girls जो ऐसे signal करेंगी कि we are so male coded ताकि they are easy to make friends with from the main side, performative male is the opposite of that, कि मैं Jane Austen पढ़ता हूँ, and I hang out in cafes, अच्छा अच्छा, I get, Speaker 1 (29:27) to make it related, बस exactly, that is something like this, हाँ, Speaker 2 (29:30) right, maybe I am not saying this to all performative males, but performative is the word I was trying to use here, where Speaker 1 (29:34) you don't know what you want, आप दूसरों की खुशी, और ये क्यों है, deep rooted आपको acceptance चाहिए, आपको love चाहिए, आपका जो inner बच्चा है न, उसको, for what he is or she is प्यार नहीं मिला Speaker 2 (29:48) unconditionally Speaker 1 (29:49) प्यार नहीं मिला प्यार conditionally मिला कि तुम ये करोगे तो ही तुम्हें प्यार मिलेगा तुम हमारे साथ agree करोगे तो ही तुम अच्छे बच्चे हो तुम अगर तुम्हारा मूँ बंद करके इनकी बात सुनोगे तो ही तुम तुम्हें प्यार करें Speaker 1 (30:13) जिंदगी पर हो ही नहीं सकता, ये structure collapse होगा ही होगा at some point. Speaker 2 (30:27) when the stress is too much, the facade will fall. औ Speaker 1 (30:40) वो balance होगा Speaker 2 (30:42) अच्छा और ma'am अगर कोई if somebody finds themselves as a chronic people pleaser जिसको जिसका locus of happiness internal नहीं है external है कि मेरे को ये समाल के रखना है इसको दबा के रखना है ये अगर फट गया तो महाल खराब जाएगा अब I think the solution would be कि अब आपको rediscover करना है happiness का source inside of you कि suppose हम खाना order करने की बात कर रहे है हम तीन Speaker 2 (31:08) तो यह आप बोलोगे Speaker 1 (31:09) तब ही यह authenticity आएगी तो Speaker 2 (31:10) locus of control internalize करने वाली बात होगी and Speaker 1 (31:13) for this you have to be ready कि शायद इमान चुका मुँ बिगड़ेगा Speaker 2 (31:16) because Speaker 1 (31:17) मुझे तो आदत है कि हमेशा मेरी स्वसंद क्या आप मंगवाते हो तो एक बार आपने pizza बोला तो मुझे बुरा लग गया you have to be ready for it Speaker 2 (31:23) ready for it Speaker 1 (31:24) कि इनक Speaker 1 (31:36) यही यह पहचान के पहचान के खुद पे काम करके समझ के कि यह मेरे में कहां से आ रहा है यह डर की वज़े से आ रहा है कि यह मेरे को मोटिवेशन पीपल प्लीजिंग डर की वज़े से मैं कर रहा हूं कि मैं लोगों को खोना दूं कि मैं मोटिवेशन की वज़े से कर रहा हू Speaker 1 (32:04) वर्क
