Speaker 3 (0:00) This is an iHeart Podcast. Guaranteed human. Lisa, tell them about our new show. We have a new podcast. It's called Don't Lie to Me. I'm Lexi Iwano. We're two best friends, 22 years apart, but so close at heart. And I'm Lisa DiGiulio, the old one, which means we have wildly different references, occasionally different opinions. And at this point in my 50s, I've lived it all. Now in my 30s, being the founder of New Shoes, good taste is my business. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 4 (0:35) This episode was brought to you by McCormick Signature Seasonings. Speaker 1 (0:46) Thank you guys so much for being here tonight. I'm Kyle Byrne. I'm the CEO of Digital Media at iHeartMedia. Really special night for us, and I really, really appreciate you guys all being here with us. The theme of tonight's is Flavor in the Kitchen with Martha from the iHeart podcast network. Our special presenting sponsor tonight is McCormick, and I want to talk about that, if you will, for just a sec. Very personally, when I was a young dad, I was 30, 31, just married, had a kid. There's that moment when you're building a home and you want to learn how to use your kitchen, you want to make great things in it because it's the center of home. And there is that moment when you look up at your spice shelf and it's filled with McCormick because you've done that and you feel bona fide, you feel real, you feel like you're a grown-up now. And you can suddenly sort of move around in your kitchen and make things in your kitchen. with creativity, with confidence that you didn't have five minutes ago, a year ago. And so I really, really, really do thank them for being the sponsor of tonight's event for us. It'll make it really special. It's also a perfect partnership with Martha, who I think for so many of us has come to be synonymous with what home means, but also understanding deeply what a meal can mean in that home. And Corrin shows that too. And Milken means so much more than just the food you're eating. It means community, connection, all those things. We are very, very grateful at iHeart to be able to partner with Martha. She has a show called The Martha Stewart Podcast. It is newly on Netflix. It's a big deal for us, and it's an awesome, awesome new way to tell a story. So special guest tonight, Daisy Toy, who is not just a very, very established and well-known makeup artist. but also a dear friend of Martha's. And so we really, really appreciate you being here. Also a new member of the Real Housewives of New York. So if you have Speaker 4 (2:44) a Speaker 1 (2:44) guest, there'll be some special guests too along the evening as Martha conducts her conversation and her interview that I don't want to reveal that surprise now, but they'll come out and you'll see them. But really appreciate you guys being here and you guys too. Enjoy the night. Speaker 5 (2:59) Thank you. Speaker 4 (3:04) Daisy and I have worked together for a little more than 15 years. One of our first jobs together was I took her around the world. She had never been out of New York. I had this trip to go from, we started in Malaysia. We started in Malaysia. It was a fabulous trip. We were entertained by the king of Thailand and we went to see the orangutans and we did this. We went to them. We ended up in the Middle East where she fell in love, of course. Some guy in the Middle East. And then he followed us to Paris on the same plane. How did you get arranged that? I think I met him on the plane. Oh, no. Or was it on the plane? I met him on the plane, leaving Dubai. And she had work to do. I mean, she had work to do and she's fooling around with this guy. And later on, we've been entertained by his mother. Daisy's married now by now to someone appropriate. But anyway, we had such a good time. The most touching thing about that whole trip was that when I got home, I got a letter from Daisy's mother thanking me for being so nice to her daughter and taking her and showing her the world. And that made me feel so good. So she's really like, you're my fourth daughter. Speaker 5 (4:18) Who's your second and third? Well, Speaker 4 (4:20) first daughter is my daughter. Right. Alexis. Second daughter was Frances Boswell replaced by Sophie when my sister died. My youngest sister died and left me. her daughter, and she's now my second daughter. Then Frances is still my third daughter, and you're the fourth daughter. But we are all family. And I think that that's what Roni tries to be, the Real Housewives of New York. They try to make those girls family and they're absolutely out of their minds thinking that they're going to be family. It's a Speaker 5 (4:48) little dysfunctional family. Very Speaker 4 (4:50) dysfunctional family. And I want to thank McCormick Spices right off the bat for sponsoring and hosting this event here today in this charming club, which is, I've never been in Speaker 2 (5:01) here. Speaker 4 (5:01) Isn't Speaker 2 (5:02) it Speaker 4 (5:02) nice? Yeah, it's really, really nice. Old-fashioned and charming. And thank all of you for coming. And McCormick's, I want you to understand that I'm going to keep this rather spicy. And please forgive me if it gets too spicy, but that's what the housewives are all about. Spice is nice, they say. And for over 135 years, McCormick has been helping us in our kitchens with all their very finely grown and finely dried. bottled spices. I told the ladies from McCormick's that if they opened my cupboards, you would see primarily McCormick's spices, not in any specific order, which sometimes it is. When I clean the cupboards on a rainy Sunday afternoon, I put them all in alphabetical order, and they're quickly out of order. My spice cupboard right now is a mess. I was making fried chicken yesterday, and I needed cayenne pepper, and I couldn't find the cayenne pepper. I finally found it. It was really a problem. Are we getting Speaker 5 (5:59) spices after Speaker 3 (6:00) this? Speaker 4 (6:00) Yeah, you get a whole bag of spices. Oh, good. And Daisy's a very fine cook, by the way. Her mother and father are wonderful cooks. They raised the girls vegetarian. Yeah. Speaker 5 (6:10) And Speaker 4 (6:11) the food is delicious at their house. When I first met Daisy, I would go to Brooklyn to the parents' house and eat these delicious dishes with her mother and father. And Daisy has, she just has a good palate. I think being a vegetarian and... Using, utilizing spices in the right way got you in your palate. Yes. I think so. And Speaker 5 (6:29) definitely Speaker 4 (6:29) my Speaker 5 (6:29) parents' influence. Food was always around. Yeah. Speaker 4 (6:32) Important. My Speaker 5 (6:33) parents cooked dinner every single night and now I cook dinner every single morning. She really does. I cook dinner in the morning. When Speaker 4 (6:41) she gets home, you never know being a makeup artist where you have to be and where you have to go in a day. She does have a very sweet little boy, Quentin, who eats well, but. sporadically. Speaker 5 (6:52) No, he's getting much better. He is? He's very sophisticated now. This Speaker 4 (6:56) is a special episode because Daisy is very special to me. And I've been trying out makeup artist after makeup artist because she's working now on a show. And you get used to having somebody there for you. Daisy, I need you at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning. I need you at 6.30 in the morning tomorrow. And now, oh, I can't make it this week, Martha. I'm doing Real Housewives. And so... The new season premieres tonight. They're very excited. I don't even know how you can sit here and do a podcast. So tonight at 8 p.m., it is premiering. Where are you watching it? Well, unfortunately, I have a dinner I have to go to. Oh. So I'll... Okay, you'll watch it tomorrow on Peacock. I will watch it on Peacock tomorrow. And then later on, right after that, all the housewives are going to Andy Cohn, who is the executive producer, of course, of The Real Housewives. Is he also the original creator? I don't know. Is he a creator Speaker 5 (7:49) or one of them? Speaker 4 (7:51) One of the original creators. And you know, Andy, he's so charming and so fun. And I have something special on the show. Speaker 5 (7:57) Tonight? Speaker 4 (7:58) Yeah, I'm not coming, but I did something special for you. Speaker 5 (8:01) Oh. Oh. Speaker 4 (8:03) And later on, after it's finished talking to Daisy, ripping her apart, I will have Carol Razuel join us and Erin Leachie, who's so beautiful. She's beautiful. She's really, is she the prettiest? Speaker 5 (8:19) Thanks. Speaker 4 (8:23) Mother of four. And to talk about friendship, reinvention, ambition, and life in the city. So it's very exciting, Daisy. Congratulations. And let's begin at the beginning. Do you remember the first time we worked together? Where were we and what shoot were we on? Speaker 5 (8:41) We were on your farm. I remember what I was wearing. You Speaker 4 (8:46) do? We Speaker 5 (8:47) were in your basement. I was wearing a wrap, Banana Republic dress. And it was somebody's wedding. I forgot whose wedding. Oh, I Speaker 4 (8:57) don't remember. Speaker 5 (8:57) Okay. And I was doing your makeup. And the Speaker 4 (9:00) basement was, I had beautiful Speaker 5 (9:02) makeup in Speaker 4 (9:03) the basement. That's where we used to Speaker 5 (9:04) do makeup, is her basement. Speaker 4 (9:06) And then we subsequently moved to my kitchen, which is the hub of our home. And that's where the cappuccino machine is. That's where the housekeeper can make daisy or scrambled eggs. There's Speaker 5 (9:16) more action. Speaker 4 (9:16) Right. It's in and out of the kitchen. There's a billion people in my kitchen every morning. Yes. Right. It's very fun. And the dogs are there and all that stuff. Yeah. So for 15 years, what have you learned from me that has nothing to do with makeup? Speaker 5 (9:33) Leave Speaker 4 (9:34) your hotel room very, very clean. Speaker 5 (9:37) I Speaker 4 (9:37) have to, I have to, in the beginning, I had to check her hotel room. She used to check Speaker 5 (9:42) my hotel room when we were checking out to make sure I left it. Very clean and organized. No dirty tissues. No makeup seers Speaker 4 (9:50) on the tables. And cups of coffee everywhere. Speaker 5 (9:55) That's still there. Speaker 4 (9:57) Oh, no, you didn't see me clean your room the last time. I mean, I really do. I have to pick up after my makeup artist. And then that's all you learned? No, I Speaker 5 (10:07) learned, you know. Speaker 5 (10:09) Just your worth ethic. Like you work. I always think like if you can do it, I can do it. And how have you found that? It's hard. It's really hard. I mean, we land on a red eye at 530 a.m. and she's ready to go. Ready to hit the town. Speaker 4 (10:29) Right. You have to. Yes. That's work. That's work. What's one lesson from working with me that prepared you for reality television? Speaker 5 (10:39) Oh, God. I don't know. I mean, don't say anything you don't want to be said or to ever see the light of day again. So I'm very careful not to- Did I teach you Speaker 4 (10:51) that? Speaker 5 (10:52) Yeah. You're like, don't say anything that you don't want to be said. You Speaker 4 (10:58) don't want repeated. We want Speaker 5 (10:59) repeated. Right. Right. I mean, I struggle a little bit because I'm always behind the scenes and I'm always checking you and making sure you're on a good angle and your lighting is perfect. Oh, Speaker 4 (11:08) I Speaker 5 (11:08) forgot to Speaker 4 (11:08) mention, and I apologize, Daisy. Daisy's
