Speaker 5 (0:00) You are listening to the Dan Levatar Show in partnership with the DraftKings Sports app. Now live in all 50 states. Speaker 3 (0:11) Ah, yes. Big game or not a big game is presented by the all-new Lawnmower Go from Manscaped. Dan, you know about that groin and body hair trimmer? You Speaker 4 (0:22) keep asking me that. And yes, I do know about that. Swondering. Speaker 3 (0:26) Roy, hit it. Speaker 2 (0:30) Howdy folks. Welcome to Big Game, or Not a Big Game, with Jonathan Zaslow. Speaker 3 (0:41) Ah, that's right. I'm traveling to State College this weekend, all right? Don't look like this is beneath you, okay? I'm traveling to State College. That's Speaker 4 (0:50) not a big game. Speaker 3 (0:51) We'll find out. What? We'll find out. It's a highly ranked team. We'll find out. Chris. Rocco Beckton and boys. Don't spoil it. No spoilers. Chris, what do you got for me? Speaker 5 (1:01) Ole Miss at Florida. Number four traveling Speaker 3 (1:05) to number 21. Oh, hell yeah. This is a... This is one of those games where we're going to learn. This is a we're going to learn game. We're going to learn about Ole Miss. Or we're going to learn about Florida. The game is at – who are you doing there? We're going to learn. The game is at the Swamp. You know about that Swamp? You know about John Sumrall, who is what every Gator fan has wanted so far? That's a good coach right there. You know about Ole Miss and Pete Golding? Yeah, do you know? Is Speaker 4 (1:37) that all you're going to do here is ask us if we know people? No spoilers. Hey, Speaker 3 (1:40) you're a Gator fan. I can tell. You're Speaker 5 (1:42) hiding Speaker 3 (1:42) in plain sight. Ole Miss at Florida. That's a big game. Yes. Big Speaker 5 (1:47) game. Roy, Speaker 3 (1:49) what do you got? Speaker 5 (1:50) I have number 17, Iowa. They Speaker 1 (1:52) are going to the big house to face number 18, Speaker 5 (1:55) Michigan. You Speaker 3 (1:56) know about that big house? That's Michigan. You're Speaker 4 (1:59) going to just keep doing this to me where you just keep asking me whether I Speaker 3 (2:02) know Speaker 4 (2:02) about it? Yes, I know about it. Speaker 3 (2:03) Do you know the stadium is sunken? Speaker 3 (2:08) It's sunken. Below Speaker 4 (2:09) ground? Speaker 5 (2:09) Yes. Who Speaker 3 (2:11) are you doing there? That's not me. When you walk up to the stadium, Speaker 5 (2:16) you Speaker 3 (2:17) are level with the scoreboard. Dan, have you ever been level with the scoreboard? Yeah, that's right. Iowa at Michigan. That's a big game. Speaker 2 (2:26) Big game. Speaker 3 (2:27) Amin, what do you got? Speaker 2 (2:29) When I'm done with the show tomorrow, I'm getting on a bird. I'm flying to the West Coast. I'm going to Georgia Tech at Stanford. I got my yellow jacket jersey on. And where's my camera? Classic ACC. Georgia Tech Athletics. I need a field pass. I got tickets. Don't worry about me getting in the game. I'll be at the game. It's Speaker 4 (2:47) a Speaker 2 (2:47) big game. But I need a field pass, so this is my direct plea. You don't Speaker 4 (2:50) have Speaker 2 (2:50) to say that. And Speaker 5 (2:51) you also Speaker 2 (2:52) need Speaker 5 (2:52) a new baseball jersey because this has literal mold on Speaker 2 (2:55) it. Look. Look, it's very sentimental. You know Speaker 3 (2:57) about that mold, Dan? Georgia Tech at Stanford. Let me tell you something. Speaker 2 (3:03) ACC showdown. Speaker 3 (3:04) If this game, if the camera panned to the sidelines and Amin El-Hassan was standing there, people would be like, what Speaker 5 (3:12) the hell is going on? Speaker 3 (3:13) Georgia Tech, Stanford, not a big game. What? Not a big game. Mike, what do you got? Speaker 5 (3:21) Texas Longhorns. Tennessee Volunteers. Speaker 4 (3:25) Donald Speaker 5 (3:25) Trump. Lots of orange in the house. Big Speaker 3 (3:31) game or not a big game? Traffic situation, terrible. I've been to games that the president goes to. They're stopping every car under the hood and the trunk under the car. It's a whole mishegas, all right? Arch Manning, you saw a couple weeks ago. He laughs. He tells jokes at his press conferences. Now he gives two-word answers. I mean, they massacre my boy. He learn. He says nothing now. Texas. He learn. Who are you doing? Who are you doing there? Speaker 5 (4:02) I'm trying to learn. Speaker 3 (4:03) I don't know who that is. Texas at Tennessee. That's a big game. Speaker 2 (4:07) Big game. Speaker 3 (4:08) Tony, what do you got? Michigan's Speaker 2 (4:09) impossible. Speaker 5 (4:12) Copacabana Beach. Linen shirt. Cigar in my hand. That's right. Speaker 2 (4:18) Four days early before the game. Stephen A. Smith in Rio de Janeiro. Speaker 5 (4:23) Inexplicably. Speaker 2 (4:26) Games on CBS. Speaker 5 (4:29) You're taking Speaker 3 (4:30) some Speaker 5 (4:30) of my Speaker 3 (4:30) material, all right? Be careful. Speaker 5 (4:34) Big game, not a big game. Speaker 3 (4:36) Okay, are we asking about the game, Ravens-Cowboys, or is Stephen A in Rio? Stephen Speaker 5 (4:41) A in Rio is a scenario. That's what I thought. Linen shirt, cigar, chomping on it. Copacabana. Copacabana Beach. Speaker 3 (4:49) I Speaker 2 (4:49) have enough makeup that would make an embalmer feel bad. Speaker 3 (4:53) Joga Bonito. Speaker 4 (4:55) Stephen A. Thursday in Rio. In Rio. Thursday in Rio. Four days. The question is, it has nothing to do with the Cowboys or the Ravens. I don't care about that. I don't care about that. You think Speaker 5 (5:08) you're fooling, Stephen Speaker 4 (5:10) A. Thursday in Rio. Copacabana Beach. Linen shirt. Cigar. Is that itself a Speaker 3 (5:17) big game? Stephen A. Thursday in Rio. Days ahead of a sporting event on CBS. Speaker 2 (5:26) Yes. Speaker 3 (5:27) That's big game. Big game. Speaker 2 (5:29) Do you have your passport? Speaker 3 (5:31) Did Speaker 5 (5:32) you get your shots? Would you like to come back home Speaker 3 (5:37) with Stephen A to Speaker 2 (5:39) America? Speaker 3 (5:40) America! I mean, what else you got? Speaker 2 (5:46) That was it. I Speaker 3 (5:47) was Speaker 2 (5:47) just Speaker 3 (5:48) going Speaker 2 (5:48) to do a Stephen Speaker 3 (5:48) A. Speaker 4 (5:49) So your whole contribution to this segment was to beg Georgia Tech for a field pass with your platform? Speaker 5 (5:54) Yeah, and I'm begging Georgia Tech to get my man a new baseball jersey because it has mold Speaker 3 (5:58) here. I Speaker 4 (6:00) do know about that mold, and I will also say that Amin is the single greatest Georgia Tech football supporter that there is in the national media, and he deserves a place on that sideline as their mascot and cheerleader because no one celebrates Haynes King, even though he's not there anymore, more than Amin Elhassan. No one celebrates Georgia Tech football more than Amin Elhassan, and no one should be more grateful that they don't see Georgia Tech this year than Mike Ryan. That's right. University of Miami Hurricanes. Speaker 2 (6:31) Let me tell you something, Mike. Can you imagine if Georgia Tech was playing at Miami this year with a quarterback named Speaker 5 (6:38) Mendoza? Oh, my God. I wouldn't fear them this year, but, you know, not this year. Speaker 4 (6:46) I mean, I want some of your expertise on a couple of things because we have not talked with you about this. The Kauai trade and extension, two years, $112 million. It was less than the maximum that he could have gotten. He is now talking about retiring with the Raptors. All of that, what was your Speaker 2 (7:04) analysis? So we had Bruce Arthur, who obviously... Covers the Raptors for the Toronto Star. We had him on Basketball Illuminati last week, and we talked about this extensively, about Kawhi's place in Raptordom, like how the fans feel about him, how the organization feels about him, and their willingness to do this, to, in a sense, like, extend a contract that everyone else is saying, why would you pay him? He's always hurt, et cetera, et cetera. And the Raptors are very confident, Dan, because... They've had him before. They've had him in their building. They feel like their medical team, led by Alex McKechnie, is the best in the league. And they know how to handle his body, how to regulate him. Remember the concept of load management? Even though it had been practiced before all over the league for years, Toronto was the one that actually put a name to it and did it arguably better than anyone's ever done it before. They feel like this is a move that you do because it puts them from just one of the teams to, hey, we are a championship contending team. And I agree. If Kawhi Leonard is healthy and they think they can keep him healthy, that makes them one of Speaker 3 (8:17) the Speaker 2 (8:17) best teams in the league. In Speaker 3 (8:19) all seriousness, is there a team in the league that doesn't think their medical staff is the best in the league? Speaker 4 (8:23) Well, but let's examine this particular player because his legacy is super complicated right here in ways that I don't associate with a lot of other athletes. For all I know, Kawhi Leonard would still be in San Antonio with the entirety of his legacy there, if not of a mistrust of their medical staff. So what does it mean that he trusts the one in Toronto? Because he clearly Speaker 2 (8:42) didn't trust the one in San Antonio. No, that's absolutely correct, Dan. And I think part of that informed how Toronto... Handled him because they knew he was coming out of a situation where he did not trust the organization or the staff that they had. And so they handled him a certain way. And it isn't quite what the Clippers did where the Clippers handling of him was whatever you like, whatever you want. It's all yours. Right. Toronto didn't do that. They had guardrails and restrictions and they had a program. And again, to answer Zaz's question, Alex McKechnie is. very, very well regarded around the league. Like, he's one of the A1 medical people around the entire NBA, probably in NBA history. So that's not just like, hey, we got the best in the game. It's like, no, they actually have a guy that many consider to be the best in the game. Speaker 4 (9:30) Let me play some sound for you, Amin. I want to get into the Miami Heat and how it's being underregarded around the country here because I am excited about seeing what this Heat team looks like. I have to genuflect if you tell me Eric Spolster is getting a top five player. What's he going to make out of that? What is the Heat going to make out of that? But it's still being
