Speaker 1 (1:46) Self-care September is your reminder to slow down, check in with yourself, get off your phone and maybe ask. Why am I like this? I'm Gemma Spegg, host of the Psychology of Your 20s podcast, and this month we're helping you make sense of the person that you are becoming, from setting boundaries and navigating friendships, to understanding anxiety, confidence, relationships, and attachment. Sometimes our biggest decisions, without us even realizing it, aren't driven by what we truly want, but by what will prevent us from feeling lonely or being alone. Listen to The Psychology of Your 20s on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 6 (2:27) So like by age 11 or so, at least 70 % have a phone. Speaker 3 (2:32) I'm Dr. Joy, and this is Therapy for Black Girls. We spend our surviving middle school run getting into what's happening inside your kid's brain, their group chats, and their friendships, and what you can do about it. Speaker 4 (2:43) Your child is not doing this on purpose. Speaker 3 (2:45) That's the kind of perspective we've been pulling from the psychologists and psychiatrists who study this for a living. Listen to Therapy for Black Girls on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 4 (2:57) Hey, it's Alec Baldwin. This season on my podcast, Here's the Thing, I talk to actor Stephen Root. Speaker 6 (3:03) I'm a people watcher. You see that guy going down the drain, go, yeah, I can use that. Speaker 4 (3:07) And Open Igloo co-founder Alia Mohammed. Speaker 8 (3:10) I love staying on top of what is going on in our city, what is on renters' minds, and taking all of that knowledge to build a platform that hopefully is going to make New York City better in the long run. Speaker 4 (3:22) Listen to Here's the Thing on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 8 (3:29) I had just seen Ice-T guest at the Apollo at the Snoop Dogg concert, and I told him that, and he sort of looked me up and down and Speaker 6 (3:37) went, huh. Speaker 6 (3:40) Hi, I'm Lisa Traeger. And I'm Cara Clank. And together, we host That's Messed Up, a podcast where we recap Law & Order SVU, dig into the actual crimes, and interview actors from the episode. Like former SVU guest star Bradley Whitford. Speaker 7 (3:53) Often I would meet people who would assume that there was something sort of Ted Bundy about me because of these sort of characters that I play. Speaker 6 (4:02) And we're celebrating our 300th episode in style with the one, the only, John Stamos. Speaker 7 (4:08) There's nobody better to play this character. I'm like, what is this? He's a reproductive abuser and he tries to impregnate as many women as he can. I'm like, really? I'm the guy like that? Okay, fine. Speaker 6 (4:17) Get the story behind the rip from the headline story on That's Messed Up. New episodes drop every Tuesday. Listen to That's Messed Up on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 2 (4:27) Dun-dun! Speaker 2 (4:31) I'm a homegirl that knows a little bit about everything and everybody. You don't Speaker 7 (4:36) feel alive out there, right? Lauren came in hot. Speaker 2 (4:39) Hey y'all, what's up? It's Lorna Rosa and this is another episode of The Latest with Lorna Rosa. This is your daily dig on all things pop culture, entertainment news, and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby! Now y'all know we kick off the show behind the scenes of The Grind. Let's get into it. Back on The Grind! Alright, so over the weekend, you know, it was a lot of wind and a lot of rain. I was in the Jersey, Delaware area. for all of the weekend and we were preparing for a storm called the northeaster now that was a lot of flood a lot of wind and a lot of rain there were people in certain parts on the east coast who really really really they were damaged and it hit them so much harder than it hit everybody else now I don't really know all of the details of, you know, what areas were impacted the most, but I did see CNN, you know, providing updates and I get their alerts on my phone and I seen, you know, they were doing account at one point of like lives lost. They were, you know, doing different flood warnings. I saw that in certain parts of the Carolinas, they had began offering emergency North Carolina. They begin offering emergency. ferry services to help people who couldn't get to the mainland because of different damage that was happening on the highway. So it was not safe to really be out and driving and maneuvering, even in certain areas that it was a lot less than all of that, right? Where it wasn't like life impacting or, you know, life or death, but it still wasn't as safe to be out and about. So I spent a lot of the weekend inside watching a lot of television. Me and my mom, we watched A Different World. And the sequel, the new sequel on Netflix. My grandmother, she is not really like a different world person. I think it's a little bit too young for her. But she loves Tyler Perry. So while I get married, I end up watching that three times this weekend in two different households. But Sunday, when everything slowed down and I was unsure, I'm like, if this weather is still crazy like this, I don't want to go anywhere. But Sunday, I was blessed to be. Guest at the women's in Delaware, which is where I'm from Black restaurant week. So it was a closing out day of their food festival and it was amazing You know, we were there with so many food vendors I literally just got to walk around and eat all day long I mean fried chicken from you know, there's a business in Delaware called Mitch Mitch's more better chicken Fried chickens off the chain Serena soul food full plate bust down Speaker 2 (7:13) Marvelicious water ice. Homemade water ice. And these are all black-owned restaurants. Urban Fork, which is a new restaurant I actually found out about, I didn't know about, in Wilmington, Delaware, where I'm from. Another black-owned restaurant. Oh, my God. They had these, like, Cajun shrimp double eggs. Lord. Then they had a student cook-off, which was also amazing as well, too. They had three students, all male chefs. The first place won $750 in groceries, like, you know, gift cards to ShopRite. And then it went to $500 and then $250. They prepared meals right in front of a live audience. It was just a good time. I so love, y'all know I talk about Delaware and being from Delaware all the time. And the reason why I do it is because when I was really trying to figure out life and career outside of just the traditional banking industry, which is like a really big, it's like banking and healthcare are like... The hospitals are where like most people in Delaware, like, you know, where I grew up, where they work. Creative industries weren't a real thing in Delaware, especially not when I was in high school. Now it's a lot better. City Council, shout out to Trippy Congo. You know, really big, the Congo family, they're huge in Delaware. They own funeral homes where I'm from. But City Council back in my hometown has done a lot to really pour into the creative arts industry in these non-conventional career fields. So just seeing, you know, a food festival that literally platformed all black owned restaurants. Loved it. The city that I grew up in, you know, downtown Wilmington, Delaware. A lot of people know of it now because like Biden as the president, you know, his home base was in Delaware. Literally. the place where we had this event at maybe about a block up was where kamala and biden's uh delaware located headquarters or offices uh were located so as you guys can imagine tourism has really changed in wilmington delaware like we're a small city but there's a lot happening there like there are so many hotels that they've built new restaurants oh my god everywhere you turn it's a floor-to-ceiling window luxury apartment building and It was not that way when I was coming up. Like, we didn't really have much of anything. It was literally like the inner city was the inner city. It was the hood. Like, it's so different now. And I think a lot of times the businesses that are minority-owned, black-owned businesses that are owned by the people who are really from the community, once you bring in these big corporates and these chains and these chain restaurants, they get drowned out. So the fact that the city is putting such a spotlight and taking the time to... Make sure that people know that they are there and know where they are and what the food tastes like and how you find it. Amazing. I was honored to be a part. I had a really great time. I posted a recap from that event and some of the food that I tried on my Instagram. I'm Lauren LaRosa everywhere. L-O-R-E-N-L-O-R-O-S-A. So if y'all want to check that out, if you just happen to be driving through the Delaware area and need some recommendations, I'm going to tag all of the food vendors over on my social that were there. Everything. I didn't try one thing that was not good. Y'all ate vegan peach cobbler. It was warm. It was amazing. It was good as hell. It was from Rooted AF. Vegan peach cobbler from Rooted AF. Speaker 2 (10:26) Let's get on into the latest, though. Speaker 7 (10:52) We don't like to use that word anymore. Okay. A panel of New Yorker cartoonists. Have you guys done Terry Gross' Peloton class yet? No! Speaker 6 (11:00) I've been dying to. I'm Speaker 7 (11:02) so sorry. I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14th. Speaker 6 (11:10) That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark Thirty. No way. Speaker 8 (11:16) of the last bookstore though. Kim Cattrall is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday. Speaker 7 (11:22) A panel of Eurovision participants. Speaker 8 (11:25) And we do a little Halloween sometimes. Does the Pope dress up? He winks on Halloween. Speaker 7 (11:30) It's right up next to the microphone. Speaker 8 (11:32) I hear you can almost hear the eyelashes hit each other. Speaker 7 (11:35) You've never seen Italy so quiet as when the Pope gets up to wink on Halloween. Speaker 8 (11:41) Listen to Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Lacey Mosley, author, actor, stand-up comedian, creator, and host of Scam Goddess Podcast. The true crime comedy podcast all about robbery, fraud, and those who practice it. Each week I bring on incredible guests like Conan O'Brien, Iowa Debris, Lamorne Morris, and Nicole Byer. Speaker 7 (12:04) Ooh, I scammed them. What? Speaker 8 (12:06) I Speaker 7 (12:06) could talk to you for an hour. Speaker 8 (12:07) You're a generational yapper, like me. That's why I had to make yapping a job. And the scams run the gamut. I'm talking about scams from the 1800s all the way up. to today. I also warn you and keep you safe against scammers. Call your grandparents. Tell your parents to stop clicking on links, please. And now you can catch full episodes of my show on YouTube. If there's a scam, I'm here to protect you. And I'm also here to laugh with you. So if you like fun, if you like comedy, and you like learning and protecting yourself from criminals, start listening to Scam Goddess on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 5 (13:10) I'm not going to get anywhere fighting. That is wild. I learned that about you today. Now in my 30s, being the founder of New Shoes, good taste is my business. And I've always got something to say. If men were just honest about this, there would be so much more peace in the world. We're going to talk about dating, relationships, beauty, getting older. And a little wiser. We're best friends, but we don't always agree. Because you told us how accommodating you are. Obviously, I would do what I think I could do to fight the fight. But there's only so much fight I can fight. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Liar. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get Speaker 1 (13:55) your podcasts. I don't really care. Self-care September is here, which means it's time to rethink what self-care actually means. Yes, self-care can be a long walk. It can be an everything shower. It can be putting your phone on do not disturb. But sometimes it's actually about sitting with the uncomfortable stuff and understanding your patterns, your boundaries. Finally figuring out why you keep doing things that you swore you would never do again. I'm Gemma Spegg, the host of the Psychology of Your 20s podcast, and each week we unpack the psychology behind the experiences that shape your 20s, from relationships and friendships to money, anxiety, confidence, attachment, just becoming more comfortable with who you are. Unlike the quarter-life crisis, which is depicted as the collapse, the quarter-life reinvention is the expansion and growth of something. When we develop the ability to be happy by ourselves, nobody else can take that from you. So this self-care September, don't just take care of yourself, get to know yourself as well. Listen to The Psychology of Your 20s on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 6 (14:58) By age 11 or so, at least 70 % have a phone. Speaker 3 (15:02) Middle school is a different world than the one we grew up in. I'm Dr. Joy, and this is Therapy for Black Girls. We spent real time on
