Speaker 6 (0:00) When something significant happens in British politics, stories are always unfolding behind closed doors. The State of It podcast from The Times and The Sunday Times takes you inside the room where it happens. I'm Stephen Swinford, the political editor of The Times, and with me are Patrick Maguire, Lara Spirit and Ben Riley-Smith. We will bring you scoops and analysis about what is really going on in Westminster. Listen to The State of It twice a week, wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 3 (0:32) I honestly, if someone says I'm going to look younger. You're in. And I have to like ingest something or I'm going to look more glowy. I'm in. I can tell instantly you are a beauty junkie. You love your products. Speaker 2 (0:44) No, Speaker 3 (0:44) it's bad though. With this job, I was very lucky to be introduced by makeup artists really about Speaker 2 (0:50) beautiful skin products and about really trying to look after your skin. Jessie Ware is a singer-songwriter. She's one half of the Table Manners podcast and a mum of three. She has sat in glam with the top hair and makeup artists for over a decade. But which products does she really rate? I'm just trying to get as much like hydration, boosting, all of it, sperm in my face. I don't know, I'll do it all. As she heads off on her world tour Super Bloom, she stopped by to talk about the cosmetic treatments that make her feel her most confident, navigating her daughter starting to experiment with beauty, and why her mum, the legendary Lenny Ware, has always insisted that every woman should wear red lipstick. She has always chastised me for not wearing enough makeup. Can I just tell you what I thought you meant? You said, Gua Sha really helped me express, and I thought you meant breastfeeding. And I was like, so you Gua Sha'd your boobs to help you express. Oh Speaker 3 (1:43) my God, I Speaker 2 (1:43) didn't do that, but I can Speaker 3 (1:45) imagine that could work. I used to use an electric toothbrush instead. This will divide the nation, so maybe we shouldn't have it. Everyone has their own choice about how they decide to name the private parts. I quite like my friend's neck. She calls it a nuni. I Speaker 2 (1:56) call it a nuni. I think she likes to help people with Speaker 3 (1:58) that, Speaker 2 (1:58) but it's a nuni. Yeah, it's a Speaker 3 (1:59) nuni. A nuni. Until you're Speaker 2 (2:01) 18, it's a nuni. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, Jessie Ware. Jessie, thank you for joining us on The Beauty Desk. I'm so excited about Speaker 3 (2:10) this. And also, we did not tell each other that we were going to basically wear the same outfit. We Speaker 2 (2:15) are very in sync. I like it. Where is your shirt from? It's from Tone Death. Who? Tone Death. Really cool brand. Gorgeous. Love them. Stunning. Okay, right. We are starting. Speaker 3 (2:27) Where's yours from? Hang on. Speaker 2 (2:29) Oh, mine is. Mine's Victoria Beckham. Oh, because you're a friend of the podcast. Speaker 3 (2:34) Shall Speaker 2 (2:35) we talk about Speaker 3 (2:35) VB? Speaker 2 (2:36) Let's talk about VB's beauty. Name Speaker 3 (2:38) dropping me never. Oh my God, I love that. Did she give that to you after having a great Speaker 2 (2:42) cracking interview? Do you want to know? She actually lent it to me. I have to give it back. Speaker 3 (2:46) Are you friends? No, I have to give it back. So it's not like you went round her house and went through the wardrobe. Speaker 2 (2:51) No, no, no. She lent it and I've already got the email saying we're ready for it back. Speaker 3 (2:56) I'm obsessed with her and I love her. She's Speaker 2 (2:58) amazing. Speaker 3 (2:58) And Speaker 2 (2:58) her... Makeup is amazing. What do you love from VB Beauty? The contour sticks. Oh, yeah. They're unbelievable. That's her favorite product. They're Speaker 3 (3:07) so versatile. And I also just love her tutorials. Yes. Every Speaker 2 (3:12) episode starts with a little look in the mirror. Speaker 3 (3:14) Oh, you know. Here she is. Do we Speaker 2 (3:17) need to do that? Make it quick if you want. But I guess this is quite a big question because when I say, what do you see? Yeah. It can be anything from... Like, is there a hang up you immediately go to? Is there something actually on your face that you're like, that looks really fucking good today? Speaker 3 (3:32) I see that my daughter has been waking me up for the last few nights and letting me know that she can't sleep. And so therefore I'm not sleeping. So I can see some bags. I can see glowy skin, which is partly to do with all the work that I do on my skin, but also my fabulous makeup artist. I know that I haven't washed my hair for six days and that's why we've got slicked hair. I see too much to be Speaker 2 (4:00) honest. I've seen quite enough. I've seen enough. Do you know what I immediately looked at when I saw you? Your lashes are insane. Well, Speaker 3 (4:07) babe, Speaker 2 (4:07) you Speaker 3 (4:07) know what? I think I've got a few extras on today, but I do actually have quite good lashes. Do you use any lash Speaker 2 (4:13) serums? Speaker 3 (4:13) No. No, wow. My mum did. She used lash serum. I did try the eyebrow serum. Yes. Revita Brow or one Speaker 2 (4:23) of those. Yeah, Speaker 3 (4:23) I don't know, something. And I think it kind of worked. But I do have quite long eyelashes, particularly the bottom ones. And actually, it's been a pain to find the right mascara. Am I allowed to talk about the mascara that I use now? Hourglass, the Speaker 2 (4:37) tubular one. So Speaker 3 (4:38) girls that have long eyelashes and it goes down. I've been many a panda eye in the club and out at dinner. And you know, when you're like, why did no one tell me? Like you told me that I had a bit of pepper in my tooth. I appreciate you. You're a good, you're a good girlfriend. Sisterhood. You're Speaker 2 (4:53) a Speaker 3 (4:53) sister. So I've been there and I've been like, why didn't anyone tell me? Hourglass's tubular one is so good. And it doesn't do that to me. Speaker 2 (5:02) Do you know what else you can do? Put a little cotton bud under here and then you put your mascara on and then you wait for it to dry. No, it didn't work. No, Speaker 3 (5:10) because I tell you why. Because it's fine because I'll start the night with it grey. It's when it starts to move so I can't do it. Travels Speaker 2 (5:20) down the face. Speaker 3 (5:20) Yeah. Also, you know what else I saw? Tell me. I saw that I've started wearing contact lenses. Speaker 2 (5:25) Did you use to wear Speaker 3 (5:25) glasses? Because I am quite blind, I think, but also basically... I wanted to wear really fab sunglasses to Wimbledon. And I was like, I'm going to have to wear prescription glasses if I go to Wimbledon because I don't want to do that. And I really wanted to wear these Long Van amazing sunglasses. So I was like, I'm going to try contacts. Was this your first time? It was my first time at Wimbledon. And my sweet makeup artist, Marlon, wears contacts. It took us... Half an hour on each eye to get it in she was coaching me going come on you could do it all the makeup was run I was like my god did it but I've managed it now and Speaker 2 (6:02) We're getting quicker and it's a game changer. I Speaker 3 (6:06) do love good sunglasses and prescription glasses. I love wearing a glass but Speaker 2 (6:12) It's been a game changer. Right, Jessie. Yeah. Beauty ride or dies. I told Jessie three products. Should we show everyone the bag that Jessie brought with her? No, that's ridiculous. Okay, Speaker 3 (6:23) but I'm going to, am I allowed more than three? Speaker 2 (6:27) I said three products. You've brought three makeup bags. Well, yeah, Speaker 3 (6:30) but this is me. It's like when we go away for the weekend anywhere and I fill the back of the thing and then I make my husband share a bag with our children, his children. He gets one bag to share and I get two. Okay, I know I'm doing this one. Right, hit me up. What is this? Ultraviolet. Do you go Violet, Speaker 2 (6:50) Violet? I know this because I said it incorrectly on live TV and it's like plagued me that I got the name wrong. I'm so sorry. It's Ultraviolet. Okay, Ultraviolet. I Speaker 3 (6:58) put this on. after my SPF because I don't I put SPF on which is skinceuticals always. Look Speaker 2 (7:07) how you're trying to add in a few products. Yeah obviously babe like I know Speaker 3 (7:10) what I'm doing and I will carry on doing it thank you very much but this I get so many compliments on my skin looking dewy and yes whilst I do use all the hyaluronic acids and the peptides and the moisturizers this is my little secret trick. I wholeheartedly agree I use it too. Do you? Tick. I love that you let me speak for so long and didn't interrupt. I wanted to know why you loved it because there's so many out there. Obviously, Embryolisse is just like there. I could have chosen any skin-suited calls because that's the majority of my regime. Yeah. Because I really trust them. Yeah. And I heard
