Our dads, you know. are good friends they hang out and so i feel like i've known you yes Speaker 2 (4:41) known Speaker 1 (4:41) about you so just meeting you i'm like you're gorgeous i'm just staring at you like you are you guys are so sweet like i just said you guys are Speaker 4 (4:49) amazonian goddesses Speaker 1 (4:51) she did say that Speaker 2 (4:52) she did Speaker 1 (4:53) i Speaker 2 (4:53) felt so short when i walked in and then i met you and i was glad that we were like we're normal it's Speaker 1 (5:01) just i have on i decided to put on the the six inch you know on top of her six one right i wish Speaker 2 (5:07) i Speaker 1 (5:08) wish i love it but you make up in other areas yeah i'm a good five two and that's okay and that's okay that is okay so we have you here because we just would love to hear your story and just your perspective of being born into a life where, again, your father is such a legend in his respective industry. We see him all the time, but we don't really get to see a product of him, his daughter. And so we want to get to know you. Speaker 1 (5:48) talk about what you're doing and where you're going and who you are becoming is that okay yes is that okay let's do Speaker 2 (5:54) it Speaker 1 (5:54) it's gonna be fun we're gonna kiki we're gonna have a good time so first question is just what was it like growing up with the Cedric the Entertainer as your dad like who is he the Cedric yeah yeah the Cedric Speaker 2 (6:07) well you know what's so funny is that I actually don't think I realized my dad's stardom until like way later in life like it was not something that like and I don't understand how I didn't like pick Speaker 1 (6:22) up on it yeah I Speaker 2 (6:23) have no clue how I didn't pick up on that maybe until um Speaker 4 (6:27) I think it was around the time He got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Oh, Speaker 1 (6:32) wow. Speaker 4 (6:32) And that would do it. Yeah, and I Speaker 2 (6:34) was like, you said that'll do it. What age Speaker 1 (6:36) were you? Speaker 2 (6:37) I think I had to have been, like, 13, maybe. Okay, yeah. Yeah, I think I was probably, like, eighth grade-ish. Or I think, you know, at the time, like, Netflix had Speaker 4 (6:52) just started to do... comedy specials like that was starting to happen and he was like he got his okay and i was like wait dad has a comedy special Speaker 1 (7:00) you're like what you've been doing i know i was like wait dad this comic thing is working out for you like you're working Speaker 2 (7:04) out for you yeah i was like she says that as if like you want to do it girl you know he's making us laugh i had no idea like no idea i it didn't like register to me like and you know i think sometimes too i kind of felt like i knew that like he was in like the comedy world and like we would go to like premieres and things but I always kind of felt like he was like black famous like as you know there's a difference what Speaker 1 (7:29) you Speaker 2 (7:29) mean black famous so like Speaker 2 (7:32) But can you elaborate? What does black famous mean? I don't know what you mean. You understand. There's certain celebrities and icons that are only exclusive to the black community. Oh, Speaker 1 (7:43) so you didn't realize the global reach. No, I had no Speaker 2 (7:47) clue Speaker 1 (7:47) that he had reached outside of people of our demographic. But even when he's in your life, okay, you're thinking he's the black celebrity. Right. How did that make you feel just even knowing? It sounds crazy, but you still know that he's a celebrity of some sort, right? Yeah. So how does that make you feel like, but it's normal, I guess, to you still, right? It Speaker 2 (8:12) was always very normal. And I don't think, I think my parents did such a good job at keeping, because I'm the baby, there's three of us. And I think that they did a really good job at keeping us all super humble. Okay. And we didn't make a... our dad like an appendage to our personality and like his stardom and um you know clothes and vacations and cars and this like i don't think we understood truly the the monetary value of of it all um i think my mom was just really focusing on on us being kids yes and so along with that she really didn't want us in the limelight too much like yeah she really didn't want us to be you know the Speaker 1 (9:00) celebrity the celebrity kid yeah yeah she she Speaker 2 (9:03) tried to to really keep us away from that um of course like we would go to like i have like my Speaker 4 (9:09) oldest memories are like sitting in backstage of like comedy shows and i was gonna ask Speaker 1 (9:13) you Speaker 4 (9:14) yeah and like you know just running around backstage and doing things like that but i was always with my mom like always always always always always okay Speaker 2 (9:21) and so it just kind of felt like how you go to the playground. Like it was just a part of my, your everyday routine. Yeah. It was like on the weekend we'll be at the forum. Like, I don't know. Like, and to me it wasn't the forum because I'm five. Speaker 4 (9:34) It was like, you know, just some place where dad's working. Like it hadn't computed like that yet. And I was just, you know, playing with blocks and, yeah, that was like, Speaker 2 (9:43) it hadn't really gone there yet. But when I realized I had watched, um, Well, I had watched like some of Speaker 4 (9:52) his movies I had watched Johnson family vacation. That was the only one I was allowed to Why is Speaker 1 (9:58) it so good we Speaker 4 (9:59) love Speaker 2 (9:59) that? You know, it actually Speaker 1 (10:02) is Speaker 2 (10:02) right Speaker 8 (10:03) I are we're movie dorks. Yeah, Speaker 1 (10:04) like That is one of them that we like to watch. We will turn that on just because it's a Tuesday and I have nothing else to do, but I want a classic to watch. And we'll turn it on. It's Speaker 2 (10:16) so fantastic. I mean, first of all, Bow Wow. It's like, we love Bow Wow. Who Speaker 1 (10:20) didn't have a crush on Bow Wow? We all did. We all did. He's adorable. Bow Wow Salon. Speaker 8 (10:26) She's in the movie. The community. Our community. It was just Speaker 2 (10:30) absolutely amazing. Young Jason Momoa. Okay. wow. Yes. Yeah. It's an amazing, an amazing, amazing film. And so that was the only one I could watch because it was like his most like childish film. And Speaker 1 (10:44) what year did that? Because I want to link the age because we're about a decade. We're not going to reveal our age. But we're at least a decade older than you. And that movie came out when we were 2005, Speaker 2 (10:57) I think. Was it? Yeah. So you saw for the first time. Okay. I was born in 2003. Speaker 1 (11:02) Right, so it came out when you were a baby. So you saw it. I'm Speaker 2 (11:07) a young lady. She Speaker 1 (11:08) is a baby, a beautiful baby. So you saw it at what age for the first time? Speaker 2 (11:12) Like, um. Like maybe too young like maybe like six or seven. Okay. Yeah, okay It was it would have absolutely the first movie that I saw of his for the first time and then well What did you feel when Speaker 1 (11:24) you saw him on? Speaker 2 (11:26) Yeah, I think I just felt I think it was exciting. Yeah. Yeah, it was absolutely exciting I was accustomed to seeing him live perform, but like seeing him on film was so cool. Yeah, and like you know seeing him really like act yeah i thought that was interesting yeah but then like it also like i remember because you know he has a whole different family like in the in the movie in the movie yeah and so it's so funny to see him like play dad on screen because he's my dad right so it's just like I don't know. It's kind of silly because like you would never say that. I was about to say, are there any similarities Speaker 1 (12:04) that you would see on camera and you're looking in real life? Like, you don't do this. Like, no. Speaker 2 (12:09) But you know what? Actually, now that I think about it. So in the in Johnson Family Vacation, he's kind of like type A about them traveling. Yes. And my dad is absolutely like that. We call him Travel Man. Speaker 1 (12:21) Like, he has to be, like, on time. And he has an itinerary. He's actually ridiculous. That's hilarious. And we all Speaker 2 (12:27) know. We're like, uh-oh, travel ban's coming out. Because he, like, needs everything. It has to be on time. Like, the I-10, by-10, like, that's so him. Girl. Speaker 1 (12:36) Like, Speaker 2 (12:36) that's so him. His favorite thing Speaker 1 (12:39) is. Speaker 2 (12:39) We say that still. I-10, by-10. I know. He'll say, church on the move. And that means, like, okay, we have to all start. walking now like it's it's time to go he needs like all of his things carried like he needs like he he just needs all the things he has to be in some type of like lounge he he's like it's a whole situation and he's like any complications Speaker 1 (12:58) that's hilarious it sounds like a wood it does it does it sounds just like my father but i was going to ask you do you think that is something viewers would be surprised to know about your dad that he is very structured and you know i turn back so funny yeah like i would never think that yeah i mean Speaker 8 (13:17) he's Speaker 2 (13:17) pretty chill like most of the time it's just when he's traveling but typically it's because he has like somewhere to be like but Speaker 4 (13:23) i Speaker 2 (13:25) think because we i mean i'm like the most type b person ever like i'm super organized but i'm like well i don't know like let's just figure it out like Speaker 1 (13:34) like wherever the wind blows me that's where i'm gonna be exactly Speaker 2 (13:38) and I think me and my aunt are the only people that are like that, but we're also the most adventurous. So we travel alone a lot. And we actually just took a trip to Asia where we just... We didn't have any like places to stay. We didn't have any visas. We were like, let's just go. Good Speaker 1 (13:55) for y'all. Let's just go. I love that. I Speaker 2 (13:57) mean, y'all was Speaker 1 (13:57) on the edge. Yeah, Speaker 2 (13:58) no, Speaker 1 (13:58) we're actually a little ridiculous. That's okay. Y'all was on the edge, no visas. We're actually super ridiculous. And we just show up with no itinerary. No hotel would freak me out though. Speaker 2 (14:06) No, I was like, okay, girl, we have to figure out where to Speaker 1 (14:08) stay. Speaker 2 (14:08) Yeah, the hotel would. But we did. It's like the type of thing that's like, we'll find it when we get there. Yeah. Like we're just so. And Speaker 1 (14:13) I Speaker 2 (14:13) love that for you. We're so spontaneous. Yeah. So I think. But my dad can't roll like that. He needs to know what's going on. Only with the travel. But once he gets where he's going, then he's out in the streets. He's just, you know, outside. So Speaker 1 (14:27) was humor part of your home life? Like, was he funny at home? Would he ever run jokes by you at home? Any joke you're like, dad. Speaker 4 (14:34) Do y'all joke Speaker 1 (14:34) around each other? Yeah. 1 Speaker 4 (14:36) ,000%. Okay. Speaker 1 (14:37) Okay. 1 Speaker 2 (14:38) ,000%. Any Speaker 1 (14:39) joke that he says and you're like, dad, no, that's a corny dad joke. Speaker 2 (14:43) You know what? Very rarely. Okay. Okay. But he knows that it's corny. Okay. But, and I'll just be like, okay, dad. Like, all right. But I always tell everyone my mom is way Speaker 4 (14:56) funnier than Speaker 2 (14:56) him. Is she? What? She's absolutely ridiculous. She's hilarious. Oh, I love that. And I think that's why they're so in love is because I think they bonded over humor. Over humor. And so he, like, um. he'll like steal a lot of his jokes from her because she's absolutely ridiculous like she's oh Speaker 4 (15:15) no Speaker 2 (15:15) mr said she's so hilarious i think like as in just you know her little ad libs around the house or like whatever she does yeah she is clearly i'm like okay we need Speaker 1 (15:29) the credits you know honestly Speaker 2 (15:30) he steals stuff from everything we say like all of us like he'll write about me all the time he used to write jokes about me in high school and things i would say with my friends and then i remember one time he went on stage and he said somebody's name and i was like dad you can't say their name like because i'm gonna be watching this office and gossip with him yeah that's our Speaker 4 (15:53) favorite thing to do yeah i like go And we'll gossip about Speaker 2 (15:57) what's happening at my Speaker 4 (15:58) school Speaker 2 (15:59) or here or here, my roommates, whatever. And then he'll go on stage and say verbatim what I said. I was like, Dad, you cannot. Oh, Speaker 1 (16:06) my God. I would be mortified. He'll be like, yeah, Lucky's friend at school, Kaylee. Speaker 2 (16:11) Dad, Speaker 1 (16:12) you cannot say that. So does he Speaker 8 (16:14) run his jokes past you when they're about you before he Speaker 1 (16:17) does them? Never. Oh, my gosh. He said, I'm going to do what I want to do. Never. And y'all just going Speaker 2 (16:21) to Speaker 1 (16:21) have to laugh when Speaker 2 (16:22) I say it. Yeah, I know. He never does. after that then he doesn't do that anymore but actually on his Netflix special and Speaker 4 (16:29) I was so mad at him because I was ridiculed for months he has a joke where I asked him if animals commit suicide and I did not ask him that and Speaker 1 (16:37) I'm actually glad I can set the record straight he said that you said you asked him that he was Speaker 2 (16:42) like oh I have this daughter she's really smart and really like weirdly curious and she asked me if animals commit suicide of course he like says it in some Speaker 4 (16:49) like you know hilarious way and it like goes into all this other stuff Speaker 2 (16:53) but Speaker 4 (16:54) I remember going to school and I think I was in the eighth grade, like going to school afterwards and my teachers being like, look, you think animals commit suicide. And I was like, I did not say Speaker 2 (17:05) that. Look at that camera right there. Speaker 2 (17:08) I never said that. I actually think my brother asked him that and then he just used my name. Not collateral damage. He already had a joke about my brother. So he was like, I have to throw Lucky in there. I did not say that. I'm glad I can set the record straight. I did not ask if Speaker 4 (17:25) animals can commit suicide. It was her brother. I will Speaker 2 (17:29) say Speaker 1 (17:30) it's an interest. I mean, I mean, it's it's it's something about a 3 a.m. I will say that. But girl, you clear the air right here. I'm kind of less worried. I do think, and he knows I'm really funny, too. But I think. We both have an ability to just like yap. Like we're big chatters and my Speaker 4 (23:12) dad's Speaker 2 (23:13) super, super charming. Speaker 4 (23:14) And I think I definitely got that from him. He's really outgoing, like kind of like talk to anybody kind of guy. My mom is really, really shy. Speaker 4 (23:25) She's you know insane. My mom loves Speaker 1 (23:27) your mom by the way. I know that's why I say our moms love each other. Yeah. Speaker 2 (23:30) She's she also has that ability to talk to Speaker 4 (23:32) anyone but Speaker 2 (23:33) she is quite like timid Speaker 4 (23:35) and shy. And she is such a behind the scenes person. She would never be able to be on camera. Kind of like how I am a little bit too. We would never know. Yeah. I'm able to Speaker 2 (23:46) morph a little bit but people always ask me they're like. oh, are you an actress or do you model? Are you in entertainment at all? And I'm like, no. Never had the aspirations? No, Speaker 4 (23:57) that Speaker 2 (23:58) is Speaker 4 (23:58) not. That's just simply not for me. I really shouldn't. You're comfortable being behind the camera. I Speaker 2 (24:04) just shouldn't. Thank you. I always tell people I should never be in front of a camera. Speaker 1 (24:07) Well, we can't say shouldn't. Yes. Because you look amazing. You look amazing on camera. But if it's not your thing, if Speaker 2 (24:12) it's Speaker 8 (24:12) not Speaker 2 (24:12) where you want to be and your passion, then no. That's much more my brother. Okay. He's like. So he should Speaker 4 (24:20) be an actor. He's like extremely talented. But that's just not it just was never my calling. So Speaker 1 (24:27) what's you have how many siblings? I have an Speaker 2 (24:29) older sister. OK. How old is she? She's about 30. I can never tell. I'm like, is she 35? I think she's 35. And once you get past 30 at Speaker 1 (24:39) all, it's all the same. I was like, she'll kill Speaker 2 (24:42) me if I say that she's older. She's the oldest. She's the oldest. My brother is 25, question mark. Okay. I'm like, why don't I know my siblings' ages? I mean, because it's a blur. Yeah. I barely Speaker 1 (24:54) know mine.
