Speaker 1 (0:00) Hello, and welcome to Smosh Reads Reddit Stories. I'm Shane, and today is the episode so many of you have been asking for for so long. It is the update episode that focuses on stories we have read on the show before that have since been updated. So we're going to be revisiting stories with all these updates, either updates we missed the first time or have come out since the episode aired. And I am joined by two people who love a good update, Tommy and Courtney. Speaker 3 (0:29) Yeah! Speaker 1 (0:30) Okay. Yes. Speaker 3 (0:33) Yes. Speaker 2 (0:33) Update. Speaker 3 (0:34) Hello, ever heard of a shape like this? Speaker 2 (0:36) Whoa! I think this is my favorite shirt I've ever seen you wear. Speaker 3 (0:40) Hey, thank you. You Speaker 2 (0:41) know what reminds me of the mask when he does the loom-jiggy-boom-boom-jiggy? Speaker 1 (0:47) Yes. Yes. So, this is how this episode is going to work. I'm going to read the summary of the story from the episode that it's from. And if you want to go back and listen to it, we're going to link all of the stories below from all their episodes. We'll discuss the original story a bit. And then I'll read the update that we didn't cover on that show and any relevant comments. Okay. Update city! Now, so many stories have been updated since we've read them on this show. So we haven't covered all of them in this episode. But don't worry, we'll probably do that down the line. Before we move into this, do you guys have any favorite updates or any update stories that we've read on the show that you just think about all the time? Speaker 3 (1:32) Man. I mean, this was from, I believe, our Boston live show. Our Boston live show, there was the update to the hummus story. Yes. And that update was so funny. I love that hummus story update. Speaker 1 (1:52) Very good. I hate to say it because obviously I hate this in real life and I hate it for people when it happens, but whenever there's an update, where it turns out someone's cheating, it always kind of blows your mind. Especially when like you don't suspect it in the first story. For Speaker 3 (2:08) sure. Speaker 1 (2:09) We had one a few months ago where it was like a wife was like, yeah, my husband, I think he's going and eating hot dogs every day. I think he's going down to 7-Eleven and eating a hot dog. Hot Speaker 2 (2:18) dogs, hummus, what is with you people? And it's kind Speaker 1 (2:21) of like, wait, what? Okay, like talk to him. And then the update is like, oh, he's having a full-on affair. Okay. All right. Speaker 2 (2:30) My favorite is when there's an update and it's like, it's an affair and the update is the woman getting away. Speaker 3 (2:37) Do you know what I mean? There was one getting out where Speaker 2 (2:40) it's like this woman, I can't remember the exact original story. It was like, She was pregnant with their, like, with another child, like, their next child. Sees on her, his phone that he was fully having an affair with her best friend. She got all her ducks in a row, lawyer situation. She was able to get out. She got, she had already had a place that she could live, like her dad's home or something. And potentially a new special friend at the end. It was very, very, I was like, yes, she wins! Speaker 1 (3:11) We love to hear it. There's many different kinds of updates because the really positive ones are also so nice. When people surprise you with being so kind and understanding. Speaker 3 (3:21) Wait, you know what story? I don't know if it has an update and I hope to God that this does. The koala piss chlamydia one. Speaker 2 (3:28) Do you remember that story? Yes. That was a confusing one. Speaker 3 (3:33) She was like, I guess it could have been the koala. And it just kind of ends going. Speaker 1 (3:38) Someone who, this is someone's first episode of this show that they're listening Speaker 3 (3:42) to. Speaker 1 (3:42) They're like, what is this show? What kind of shit are you guys reading? If Speaker 2 (3:46) someone's choosing the update episode for their first one, okay, you're brave. Speaker 1 (3:50) Hey, brave. All right, let's hop into our first story. Sorry to do that again, Speaker 2 (3:55) I coughed over you. Speaker 1 (3:56) Let's hop into our first story. Speaker 2 (3:58) Yes. Speaker 2 (4:02) Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Speaker 1 (4:04) All right. So this first story comes from Am I the Asshole? Posted in September of 2022. The original story was, am I the asshole for kicking a server out of my wedding? This came from a Walk on the Wild Side episode from earlier this year with Amanda and Olivia. The summary of it is the OP. the bride planned her dream wedding down to her dream catering company. The wedding guests were told to wear dark colors and minimal makeup so that OP and her husband stood out. OP gets mad that one of the servers is wearing too much eyeliner and also had diamond studs in her ears, a flashy ring, and one of those ugly nose studs. OP then complains that the server staff uniform was too low cut and her pants were too tight, claiming the server was super distracting. OP finds the server's boss and asks that the server be dealt with because she was super distracting. The boss apologized and called the server back into the kitchen. During dinner, OP catches the server back out serving food. OP calls the boss over again. and asks if that server can either work in the back or go home. The boss said they were short-staffed and would see what could be done. A couple hours go by and everything seems fine until OP spots the server now behind the bar. OP called the boss out one more time and said if the server didn't leave, she would be calling the cops. The boss relents and tells the girl to go home. OP's husband and mother-in-law said she was acting crazy and got a college kid fired over nothing, but OP's mother and maid of honor backed her up. saying it's her wedding, so she can do as she pleases. To quote OP, it's my wedding, and I don't want someone overshining me, and the server should know she's at work and not dress up so much. I do feel kind of bad because she was pretty young. I believe she was 19, if I recall. I remember this Speaker 2 (5:55) story very well. And the OP, the Speaker 1 (5:56) bride, is definitely in her mid-20s at least. Yeah, and it seemed very clear from the story that the boss was just kind of like, all right, just kind of go to the back for a little bit. Speaker 3 (6:06) Just let her do her thing. Speaker 1 (6:07) Yeah, pretty embarrassing. I Speaker 2 (6:13) just remember having so many feelings about that one because it's like, oh, Pete, you are the bride. If you're worrying about this person and fixating and worrying about them, you're worrying about the wrong things at your wedding. You already won. You're having your day. It's your day. And the fact that you're like, her uniform. It's not like she chose to wear whatever and chose, like, this was her uniform that she has no control over. And saying, like, it's so, it is so problematic of, like, dress codes and all those things, too. Speaker 3 (6:45) Deal with her. Deal Speaker 2 (6:46) with her. Put her Speaker 3 (6:47) away! Yeah. Speaker 1 (6:49) Yeah, it's just kind of like, I don't know. It's like, what do you think people are thinking right now? Like, you think everyone's like, wow. That's one girl. That hot Speaker 2 (6:59) 19-year-old sure is hot. No. Yeah. Speaker 1 (7:04) And this is like one of so many types of stories we read where a bride is... like obsessed with one person at the wedding. And there are many stories too that we read where someone wears an extravagant dress and wears white to the wedding. And that's a different story. But in this case, it's like, dude, this 19 year old's just trying to get by, just trying to do their job. Probably exhausted. Also 19 Speaker 2 (7:27) year old working behind the bar. Hmm. Hmm. Speaker 1 (7:33) And you know it's probably happened more than once when the boss is like, all right, just like, we'll do our routine where we'll pretend like I'm sending you back and then you keep working, whatever. The verdict was asshole for the OP. Yeah. Obviously, yeah. Speaker 3 (7:46) Yeah, I think that tracks. I mean, it's like you just said, it's always like, it's one or the other. Either someone's focusing too much on this person that doesn't need to happen or that person is like, ah! Speaker 1 (7:57) I'm gonna be married today, not you. Speaker 3 (7:59) It's like, okay, you need to not be here. Speaker 1 (8:03) I don't know. Speaker 3 (8:06) I guess you could have been like, can you take off the nose ring? But Speaker 1 (8:11) what if it's healing? But also like a nose. Who cares? I'm not going to a wedding and going, wow, that person's wearing a nose ring. They're completely outshining the bride. Exactly. OP also asked everyone to wear dark colors and minimal makeup. Speaker 3 (8:25) Oh, oh. Speaker 1 (8:26) So. Can everyone wear a potato sack and like fuck their hair up? Yeah. I need everyone to wear muumuu's. Yes. Every person wear muumuu's. Speaker 3 (8:37) I Speaker 1 (8:37) got Speaker 3 (8:37) slippers out the door. Speaker 1 (8:38) Yeah, and that's the vibe. And then I'll be dressed gorgeously. No, it just reads as like, sadly, just a very insecure human. Now, what do we think this update is going to be? Speaker 2 (8:50) Okay, here's the chaotic theory I have. What if... OP double down and is like, no, look, here's a picture of this person in the background. Look, see? And like maybe blurs their face or something. Yeah, Speaker 1 (9:02) that could be. Speaker 2 (9:03) That's the chaotic one. Speaker 1 (9:05) Because they did get an asshole verdict and that's got to hurt. So they're going to defend themselves maybe. That is very possible. Speaker 3 (9:10) I want an update from the 19-year-old. Speaker 1 (9:13) Yeah. And Speaker 3 (9:13) she's like, I got let go from this job and it upended my life. But now I'm an animator for Walt Disney. Speaker 3 (9:23) And he's back. And he's back and I make a billion dollars. Speaker 1 (9:29) I think it's one or the other. I think it's either it's OP doubling down and it gets worse and worse. Maybe it could even be like to divorce levels where OP can't let this shit go and it snowballs into other shit. I could see that being a possibility. I could see the 19-year-old being like, hey, I found this post. This was from two or three years ago. I'm like graduated college now. blah, blah, blah. Here's more to the story that people didn't know. I hope so. And it's like, just really revealing how stupid the day was. I think it's one of those two. It Speaker 3 (10:03) has to Speaker 1 (10:03) be. I will be surprised if it's something else. If maybe it's like the husband updated it or like, or, or OP is like, you know what? I have learned from my ways and now I'm- I'm only ugly now. Now, now I only ugly. Now I got a nose stud and I love it. And I respect everyone who has nose studs. Our update came in the comments of this story from a coworker of the server. Speaker 3 (11:42) Okay, close, close to a no. Speaker 1 (11:45) Probably even more valid because now this is someone who's like, I know this coworker, so I saw this all happen, but I am an outside perspective. All right, not gonna lie, this sounds like a story my coworker told me. After sending the post to my work group chat, I confirmed this is in fact the same wedding. And I have screenshots of the texts I got during the Speaker 2 (12:08) wedding. Oh, this is good. I got juices. Juicy. We have Speaker 1 (12:12) receipts from the story. Juicy. Just to clarify some things I saw in the comment though. One, our uniforms change depending on the weather. This was a daytime wedding in 90 degree heat, so lightweight long sleeve tops. Two. The wedding was a three and a half hour drive for most of us, so our usual team of 15 people was cut to nine. I wasn't there because the drive was too long, and I'm not comfortable driving that far late at night. Three, she wasn't fired, but she did have to leave early. But that's not a bad thing because that means she didn't have to clean up after the wedding and still got paid. Okay. Four, jewelry is allowed at our job. It just has to be simple, which is what she had on, simple jewelry and her engagement ring. Speaker 2 (12:57) Flashy rings. Oh my goodness. Speaker 1 (13:01) That's the issue. She had an engagement ring. She had an engagement ring, which is adjacent to Speaker 3 (13:05) getting married. Speaker 1 (13:05) Yeah. Nobody at this wedding was allowed to be engaged. No. Speaker 2 (13:09) Or married. You had to break it off. And you Speaker 1 (13:11) have to swear to never get married in your life. 100%. Because Speaker 2 (13:13) that would Speaker 1 (13:13) be outshining her in the long run. Exactly. Five. She was actually 18 and in high school. She can bartend supervised since she's 18. Speaker 2 (13:24) Okay. Speaker 1 (13:25) I don't know those laws. Speaker 2 (13:27) Okay. Speaker 1 (13:27) Six, makeup is allowed. It just can't be crazy makeup. So eyeliner, specifically winged eyeliner, which is what she had on, is in fact allowed. Seven, we buy our own uniforms and are reimbursed for the cost. She accidentally shrunk her pants and hadn't gotten the chance to get new ones. My coworkers and I are all laughing at this. OP seemingly left out the fact that one of the fathers kept flirting with the staff. Some of the guests got shit-faced and tried to steal from the bar. OP's wedding planner walked into the kitchen at one point and almost broke down crying, and the groom and groomsmen got way too high and left half-smoked blunts all over the place. Speaker 2 (14:07) Whoa. Speaker 1 (14:08) So wouldn't you know, they were all assholes. Speaker 2 (14:10) How about that? Speaker 1 (14:12) And how about that? And so how about that? Speaker 2 (14:15) Wouldn't you know? You gotta save your Speaker 1 (14:16) joints. What are Speaker 3 (14:17) you doing? Speaker 1 (14:18) Yeah. It Speaker 2 (14:19) must have been real high. Yeah. It Speaker 1 (14:21) must have been so high. So Speaker 3 (14:23) high. Speaker 1 (14:23) Man, wedding catering must be just... Oh. A journey. Yeah. Every day. Luke does that sometimes. Really? Speaker 3 (14:30) Every once in a while, he'll do a little freelance moment. And every time it comes home, he's like. It was crazy out there. Speaker 1 (14:38) It's always Speaker 3 (14:39) like a little war story and I sit down and I'm like, tell me about it. Speaker 1 (14:43) Oh my God. It's wacky. I don't know what happens to people at weddings. People put the most stakes on a simple Speaker 3 (14:52) day. Like it's a big day, sure. I think it's like, if you planned for two months to just come to work one day, like let's take it from wedding to just. another day, but you plan that long for one day and something doesn't go right, you're going to be like, I planned it! This Wednesday Speaker 1 (15:13) was supposed to be the best. So it's like I get it. It's kind of like the purge for assholes. Yes. Yeah, it's like on this day we get to do everything we want. Yeah. And nobody gets to tell us anything else. Exactly. Some comments here. Someone said the internet is vast and yet small at the same time. Tell your coworker we all say OP is the asshole. And someone said, wow, so the perfect wedding was not so perfect and OP needed to deflect. Speaker 2 (15:42) Ooh. There Speaker 1 (15:43) we go. Speaker 2 (15:43) Also, like. This wedding, this catering employee was a kid. 18 years old. Yeah, Speaker 3 (15:50) that's a child. Speaker 2 (15:50) That's a child. That's a Speaker 3 (15:51) child. Yeah. Do you know that clip? You guys know that clip? You guys know that clip? Speaker 2 (15:56) That's a child. And that's an ugly pimply bitch. Do we know that clip? Speaker 1 (16:00) Do we know that? Do we know that clip? And that was OP. Well, embarrassing. Wow. Frankly. Speaker 3 (16:07) Also, was it the dad flirting? With Speaker 2 (16:10) the staff, yeah. Lock him up. Lock him up. Lock them up. Speaker 1 (16:14) Man, to make a wedding planner cry, because they've seen it all too. Yeah. So to be the worst wedding. They're supposed to Speaker 2 (16:22) be the most unbroken. Speaker 1 (16:24) Truly. Wild. The Speaker 2 (16:27) strongest of the strongest. I don't think I could Speaker 1 (16:28) handle any job around a wedding. No. I don't think I'm built for that at all. I would crumble. Speaker 2 (16:34) Oh, like just alone having to deal with intoxicated people in places where like weddings, everyone's like, it's the place where you can like meet people sometimes. Or maybe that's not. Speaker 1 (16:49) No, I think people think that. People Speaker 2 (16:51) think that. Is it true? Debatable. Depends on the wedding, probably. Speaker 1 (16:55) Yeah. Yeah, geez. Geez. Well, that's our first story. Time for our second one. Speaker 3 (17:03) Okay, that was a fun little dip the piggies in the water. That's a nice Speaker 1 (17:06) update that just gives us clarity. It's nice when you get the full perspective on a thing. It is Speaker 2 (17:12) so funny that the bride made this one employee, this one person at the catering company. seem like the whole problem, the one problem, when it's like, honey, you have bigger storms coming. Yeah. Speaker 3 (17:25) You guys seen that clip? You know that clip? Yeah, that clip. And you know that clip? You see that clip? Speaker 1 (17:28) All right. Our next story was posted on Relationship Advice. We read this back in 2025. My coworker, an 18-year-old boy, put me, 22-year-old woman, on a hear-me-out cake and posted it online. Do I take action in some way? I Speaker 2 (17:46) was there, man. Take Speaker 1 (17:46) action. Do I take action? I was there, man. Do Speaker 2 (17:50) I kill Speaker 1 (17:50) him? Speaker 2 (17:51) This was such a diabolical story. Okay, do the thing. Do the summary. Sorry. Speaker 1 (17:55) So this came from the episode Three Hot Takes from July of 2025. It was you, Courtney, and our good friend Morgan Absher. Hell yeah. The summary of it goes, OP, a 22-year-old woman, works at a diner as a waitress alongside John, an 18-year-old boy. OP says they are friendly, but not friends. John invites OP to a group chat with other coworkers on Instagram, and OP says yes. The group chat is normal, standard coworker stuff. OP then sees that John posted a reel of him and his friends taking part in a hear-me-out cake. The entire cake is centered around fictional and animated characters until towards the end when OP's face is put on the cake. OP is the only real person on the cake, and John remarks about how attractive OP is and that he wished that he could Hit that. But doubts he has a chance. OP feels super grossed out and violated. OP's sister says to take it like a compliment since someone thinks she's pretty. OP then asks Reddit if this issue should be escalated to higher ups at the diner. Should she just ask him to take the video down? Okay. Damn. Speaker 1 (19:09) I forget what we talked about on this one. I mean, it's gross. It's awful. Yeah. I remember Speaker 2 (19:13) a lot of discussion about, like, workplace versus non-workplace sexual harassment. And, like, if there's an HR for this diner, which, you know, doesn't sound like they would have the most prime of the prime HR situation. That was an interesting one. Because it's like, we kind of Speaker 3 (19:31) were Speaker 2 (19:31) suspicious of, like, why would you invite her? to a group chat and not expect her to see that video. And we were kind of sus on like, did he do this on purpose? Like, was he trying to get our attention? It seems like he Speaker 3 (19:43) wants to. Speaker 1 (19:44) Yeah. I could see, this is like a very like dumb young person thing to do where it's like, I'm going to post this and maybe they'll see it and like think I'm hot. I don't look, I'm not like, I don't know, workplace like. legality of stuff, I think she should address it. Like, if she feels deeply uncomfortable and, like, have someone else at least, if there's not an HR situation, to at least, like, confront him and be like, hey, dude, stop. That Speaker 3 (20:12) was Speaker 1 (20:12) weird. That's fucking weird. There's nothing, nothing's gonna happen. Yeah. Speaker 2 (20:15) Just Speaker 1 (20:16) so you know. Also, Speaker 3 (20:17) life lesson, now that you've done this, I certainly will not let you hit that. Speaker 1 (20:21) Yeah. Yeah. Life lesson, don't do this again. Don't do this again. This is not how to do it.
