Let's get into our next paranormal encounter. Speaker 1 (1:55) In 1992 I was 17 years old. I'm 51 now. So there obviously are parts that I don't remember perfectly, but there are parts that I can still recall very clearly. Speaker 1 (2:16) And I've talked about it with my friend who was with me enough times over the years that I know we remember most of what happened the same way. I grew up in Pennsylvania outside a fairly small town. I don't really want to say exactly where because I still have family around there. Speaker 1 (2:37) It wasn't exactly rural but we lived far enough outside the town that you couldn't just walk somewhere interesting. If you didn't have a car you depended on your parents or an older sibling or the bus. And at 17... My main goal in life was basically to get as far away from my parents as possible. Speaker 1 (3:03) I wasn't a horrible kid. I did well enough in school. I wasn't getting arrested or anything like that, but I was pretty rebellious and I lied constantly. Speaker 1 (3:19) About where I was going, who I was with, whether there would be alcohol there. All, I guess you could say, the usual teenage stuff. Speaker 1 (3:31) I had a best friend at the time, I'm going to call her Kelly. She was pretty much the same as me. That year both of us had dyed our hair this reddish brown color Mine was naturally light brown and hers was a little darker but for whatever reason we decided that this auburn colour looked incredibly grown up. There are pictures of us from that time and I can now say it did not. We looked 17, maybe 19 from a distance. We thought we looked 25. Speaker 1 (4:10) So one Saturday night, I think it was late October, we decided to go into town. I remember it being cold but not... yeah winter cold. Leaves on the ground that sort of thing. Speaker 1 (4:25) We told our parents that we were sleeping at each other's houses. That was something that we did quite a lot. My mother thought I was in Kelly's and Kelly's mother thought I was at mine. Speaker 1 (4:38) And we took the bus into town in the late afternoon. I remember that day wearing a Pearl Jam t-shirt. And I remember the t-shirt because it became part of how we met this guy later. We went to this place that was basically a bar and grill and it had food and pool tables, a jukebox. It wasn't some nightclub with a guy standing at the door checking everybody. Speaker 1 (5:06) And it wasn't exactly difficult to get served even though we were 17. Speaker 1 (5:13) Kelly had her older cousin's driver's license and I had my sister's. My sister was 23 and we looked enough alike that if somebody glanced at the photograph and then looked at me, it worked. And that's pretty much what happened. We got some drinks. It was, of course, in hindsight, an incredibly stupid thing to be doing. I'm not defending any of it, but at 17... I was delighted with myself. At one point in the evening, we noticed this guy that kept looking in our direction. He was definitely older than us. maybe in his late 20s maybe early 30s. I remember us viewing him definitely as an older man and he was pretty good looking. Kelly noticed him before I did. He had dark hair, sort of messy. Speaker 1 (6:12) I remember he had very pale blue eyes. Speaker 1 (6:16) And I remember what he's wearing. He didn't stand out for being strange looking. He was kind of a classically good looking guy. Speaker 1 (6:30) We watched him for a bit and he seemed to be very social. Speaker 1 (6:35) He seemed to find it easy to talk to people. He was talking to the bartender, other guys in the place. Speaker 1 (6:44) People seem to be laughing in his company. Speaker 1 (6:48) We watched him play some pool. Kelly was definitely developing a big crush on this guy. Speaker 1 (6:58) And at one point I remember a man coming over and slapping him on the shoulder like they knew each other. Speaker 1 (7:05) The first actual conversation we had with this guy was about my shirt. He asked if I liked Pearl Jam or if I was just wearing the T-shirt. And I remember getting slightly offended by that. I was 17, of course I needed this complete stranger to understand that I was a serious Pearl Jam fan. So we started talking about music. He ends up saying that he liked Alice in Chains and their album Dirt had just come out and I remember him saying that he had it on cassette in his car. Speaker 1 (7:42) Kelly was very obviously flirting with him. I wasn't particularly interested in him in that way, but I liked talking to him. He
