Speaker 2 (0:04) The Speaker 1 (0:05) city moves fast, but your vibe, that's different. Sharper, smoother, more alive. Speaker 2 (0:15) The new Speaker 1 (0:20) Honda City isn't just made to drive, it's made to feel. The new Honda City, all new vibe. Speaker 4 (0:37) Hey everybody, what's going on? Rob Cicernino back with you on Wednesday night. A veto ceremony, a diamond power of veto ceremony. And this podcast has only just begun. And I'm so excited to be here with our panel. And of course, we're so excited to be back with Frail Mary. Mary, how are you? Speaker 5 (1:01) I'm doing great. I, you know, I thought about doing like a Lord of the Latrine costume. Didn't really have anything. Closest I could get was the Pirate of the Potty. And I only have a saxophone instead of like a long trumpet. So I gave up on that idea. It'll play. Speaker 4 (1:19) Wear it to Rehapcon. Speaker 5 (1:22) I'll do that. Sure. If you see me dressed like a pirate carrying around a saxophone, you'll know why. Speaker 4 (1:27) Yeah. Speaker 4 (1:29) And then back with us, it's the Duke of Deception. Here he is. It's Pouya Zamikili. Pouya, how are you? Speaker 3 (1:38) I'm good. I'm relieved that I'm not in a position where I have to be perceived now with Mary announcing that I need to take a bathroom break. So thank you, Mary, for deciding to nix the costume because I wouldn't have been here for it. Speaker 4 (1:49) Yes. Speaker 3 (1:49) How are you doing tonight, Speaker 4 (1:50) Pouya? Speaker 3 (1:51) I'm doing good, Speaker 4 (1:52) you Speaker 3 (1:52) know. I'm doing good. Energy's up. Vibes are high. Big Brother's been delivering. The episodes have been fun. And I'm back second Wednesday with you in a row, Rob. So you can't Speaker 4 (2:01) be Speaker 3 (2:01) too mad Speaker 4 (2:01) at me. All right. And we'll be together next Wednesday also when we are out in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for RehapCon coming up next week. We'll talk more about that later. But a big episode here tonight as we really are going through Rick Devon's thought process and at points literally going through his thoughts with him in the episode as he ultimately decides to. use the diamond power of Vito to take D off of the block and put Kamu on the block. And we will find out what happens in just 24 hours as we watch our week six eviction. And then we'll be talking about it live on Thursday night. Be a fun podcast. Captain Will is going to join us on the podcast tomorrow night. Speaker 5 (2:50) Fun. Speaker 4 (2:51) And of course, if you like hearing from the Big Brother alumni, you're going to love what's going on over on chat BCC. You can find out what there's probably about 40 to 50 alumni, including people from this season. Jason is on there too now. Go on over to bb28.chat, not bb28.chuck. He's not there. Okay. Don't be looking for Chuck on the chat, BCC. I'm sorry. Speaker 3 (3:24) That was great. I did like that editing choice from the... It's Speaker 4 (3:28) a great moment. It's a great moment when we see the houseguest who's left and we hear them from beyond the grave. And maybe that could be the case when Camus potentially could go home on Thursday night. We'll break down the vote and everything else. But we have to start with our big Power of Veto ceremony, which we did not get to see. We saw it for the first time. Mary, what was your reaction to Diamond Devins doing Rick Devins things? Speaker 5 (3:59) You know, it was fun. We're just really embracing the Jeff Probst references, really using Survivor a lot in here. I don't know why. I thought that maybe just because of the siree of it all that we would be leaning away from constantly the Survivor talk. But, you know, he hammed it up a little bit. It was fun. It was fun. Speaker 4 (4:24) Yeah. What do you think, Pouya? Speaker 3 (4:27) It was too nice. Like, you know, we're declaring war out here. Let's be a little bit meaner. Especially, Yash didn't look happy. Kamu was seething. I would lean into that a little more. And I think that this was a good, I don't remember where I read this, but someone brought this up that like, this is probably why things were a little bit tame after the ceremony on feeds is because Devin's ultimately, he's not a mean guy. Even when he does these things, he does it with a joke. Speaker 3 (4:54) The energy is going to be a little bit more calm, cool, collected. But I wanted fireworks and we didn't get fireworks. We wanted fireworks. Speaker 5 (5:03) We just don't get fights like that in, you know. Speaker 3 (5:06) No. In the Speaker 5 (5:07) same way. Like even the biggest fights so far, which have been like Angela versus people. Like she's already made up. She makes up like an hour later with everybody. Speaker 4 (5:18) Yeah. But at least Angela gives us the moment. And, you know, this was, you know, cool that it happened. We were all very excited to see it. But I think that Rick in his delivery, I think it is with a joke and is why he comes across as such a nice guy in here. And this was a very nice guy way of delivering the news to Kamo. Speaker 3 (5:42) Right. Like, I like, listen, far be it from me. I'm sitting comfortably at home armchair quarterbacking this moment. But like. I did feel like it was also a little wordy. Like he clearly wanted to bring survivor into it. And it was just one too many sentences in there. He wanted to highlight like, you know, the people are going to be mad at me. Jeff Rose is going to be mad at me if I don't use it on the one survivor in the house. But it just felt like we went around twice before. Speaker 4 (6:07) Yeah, the motive was the survivor thing. There was. I think that there were some interesting choices that they made in terms of how they decided to tell this story. I think that you could have had a few different angles on it. At no point is there any discussion of Yash using the veto on anybody else. This strictly was an episode about Rick Devins has the diamond power of veto. Is he going to use it to save his friend? But Mary, something that was occurring is the issue of the BB bribe. And that was omitted completely from this episode. Speaker 5 (6:43) Yeah, so we had like a little bit in the previous episode, right, with the BB bribe. She offered it to Yash Speaker 4 (6:51) and he declined. We Speaker 5 (6:53) did not do any of the like de-offering Devin's, offering to Devin's the BB bribe. And so that he would like. claim that was his reason for needing to do it and all of that. It's always interesting to me that they throw so much in this show and then the stuff they choose to put in and not because like in the previous episode, I was surprised that we had like one moment of the Lord of the Latrine. But don't worry, we brought that back for this one. Speaker 2 (7:24) Yeah, Speaker 5 (7:25) I got a lot more of that. But considering the fact that this is the hour and a half long episode, I feel like they definitely could have. used more um and especially because we really barely saw any of the fallout even from yash not accepting d's bb bribe um and like who else now knows about it and stuff like that Speaker 4 (7:48) yeah i feel like that we're sort of like okay we're not talking about that right now forget about that we'll bring it back up if we need to Which I think that's... Big Brother, maybe don't put Speaker 5 (7:59) flop prizes in here if you want them to get used. Speaker 3 (8:04) I think the fact that the bribe is still on the table, like she can still... It's going to stay until someone accepts it means that they don't need to talk about it because it's going to come up again. And they're going to have to regurgitate some of this content anyway with the next person. I want to preface by saying I did say at the start of the episode I've been enjoying the episodes. They've been very fun. Because can I make a, can I make a, and you know, I'm glad Mary's here because I know Mary knows production. Mary knows set pieces. Mary knows design. She knows a lot of things. Mary, can you talk to us about this Diamond Power Vito and this arts and crafts that they did with this? Because it didn't feel diamondy. It didn't feel glamorous to me. It felt like a project. that a child Speaker 4 (8:49) made. Yeah, Speaker 5 (8:50) do we have a picture of it? See if Speaker 4 (8:52) we can find one. Let's see if Sam can track it down. I didn't look at it too closely. Pouya, what was your observation of the Diamond Power Vito? Speaker 3 (9:00) Well, you know, back in BB-12, when Matt Hoffman pulls it out of his pocket, it falls apart. Speaker 4 (9:06) It doesn't look like we've done many changes 16 seasons later. It Speaker 3 (9:12) felt kind of haphazardly put together. It looked like someone had individually glued rhinestones. Yeah, there you go. See? Yes. Speaker 5 (9:20) It's like a clear veto with Speaker 2 (9:22) some, Speaker 5 (9:24) yeah, like clear bedazzling on it. There's a lot more we could have done here. At least use like the sparkly ones. Instead, they're just the clear ones. Look, I don't know. For anyone who's following my Twitter, you might have seen this a couple weeks ago. I acquired an onion power of veto a couple weeks ago and it looked better than this. Speaker 4 (9:49) What do you mean you had an onion power of veto? I was eating Speaker 5 (9:51) onion rings in one of Speaker 2 (9:53) the Speaker 5 (9:53) really Speaker 4 (9:53) power veto machines. I did see that. I did see that. Yes. Speaker 5 (9:56) Yeah, it was great. But look, you know, yeah, Devin's is having to work with a lot here. And I don't think I've mentioned this. Maybe I have. Sorry if I have. I don't think I've mentioned this on a podcast so far this year. But considering the fact that Devin and I are, there's my onion power veto. Yeah, that's Sam. That's Sam. Pretty damn good. good that is yeah Speaker 3 (10:18) it Speaker 5 (10:18) was great did you make that no it was in the it was in in my cookout box wow Speaker 4 (10:24) and a cookout yeah wow very big brother coded yeah Speaker 5 (10:28) um But but Devins and I, we're both fellow alums from the same college. And so every time I see him wearing his college shirts and sweatshirts, which I think is the first time in the Big Brother house I've ever seen anyone from Virginia Tech. So shout out to Devins. It's very fun for me. So he can do no wrong for me right now. Speaker 4 (10:51) Yeah. OK, well. Many people felt like he could do no wrong when he put Kamu up on the block this week. And so we maybe thought that there would be a big reaction from Kamu. But even in the diary room, a little bit of a muted response from Kamu, who I guess is used to, okay, in his MMA, all right, I can't get too worked up. I have to just now. deal with the consequences or the facts as they are right now. Speaker 3 (11:26) Yeah, I think that there's not much that you can say when you are in a very safe spot and an entire diamond power of Vito had to come unearth you into the block. Like, I think it's a very tough draw. And like, you can be sulking about it. You can be angry about it. Or you can just stay composed and figure out what your next move is. And I think someone like Kamu, we've learned that he cares about his impressions deeply. How people see him and perceive him matter to him. I don't think he wants to look bitter or salty. I think he wants to look like, you know, I was harmed. I was punched down, but I got back up, but I didn't flinch. That's what he's trying to give us. But I will say, just off body language and facial reactions, he looked angry Speaker 4 (12:13) to me. Speaker 3 (12:14) That read angry. That entire moment read angry. Speaker 4 (12:17) Yeah. I feel like that the best moment of the whole ceremony was when Rick Devins announced that the Vito ceremony was just getting started. That got the best reaction out of the whole thing. That was good. Speaker 5 (12:29) It did. And like, obviously Dee knew about the Diamond Power Vito. Angela knew. But like... This is not the first time in Big Brother where something dramatic will happen like that. I feel like this, you know, I'm trying to remember when another time this happened, maybe the twin twist or something. But like when everyone starts like cheering and clapping and laughing, it's like, guys, this is not Speaker 3 (12:53) going to be good for some of you. I Speaker 5 (12:55) think everyone really likes to, they all like to seem like they're in on the joke. They're in on the excitement, which. I think from like Speaker 2 (13:03) a... Speaker 5 (13:03) Something's happening! Speaker 4 (13:05) Oh, look at this! It Speaker 5 (13:07) would be so much more funny and so much more impactful, I feel like, if everyone just like went silent and like looked scared. And I know they don't want to. And I know that Kamu, like you said, doesn't want to act like upset or stressed or whatever. But like, that's the more fun reaction. It's the same pet peeve when people get voted out and they're like, yeah, I saw it coming. I knew this was happening. It's like, shut up. Just say, whoop, didn't see that one coming. Come on. Speaker 3 (13:32) Do you think part of it has to do with the fact, because I think about this when they, you know, someone says, everybody, it's time for the veto. And then everyone's like popping off like they care like that. Because what was the thing Devin said this? That was a really stuck out to me. I don't remember what it was, but it felt like a canned line. It was very sarcastic, but they kept it in. I think because they're constantly told they have to like be animated. They're just. it's almost like second nature to them. That and they're probably bored, y'all. Like, anything is exciting. Yeah. Yes, Speaker 4 (14:07) finally. Something's happening. We love it so much. Okay, so we'll see the fallout from what happened with this in tomorrow night's episode. But I guess let's talk a little bit about how we ultimately got there. And Rick is going to, I thought that this was actually a pretty cool moment in the show. And I can't remember another time that we had something like this where Devin has the extended cam talk where he's really talking through his thoughts. In the diary room, we certainly have had people talk to us at home, but this was an instance where we had Rick talking, I guess, out loud, maybe to everybody at home, but I thought it served as a really great confessional for us to get inside Rick's head. What did you think, Mary? Speaker 5 (15:02) Yeah, I liked this too. I actually thought that this part was pretty dramatic. I don't know. It felt very like a movie, like scripted, like, oh, things are going bad. But what if I, Speaker 2 (15:14) should Speaker 5 (15:15) I just? Blow things up? What if we combine this group and this group? And it's pretty interesting because, you know, the idea here of using the Diamond Power Vito and forming this new alliance, which Devins talks about as the crossovers plus the two girls, Mallory and Melody, as the obvious tie-ins. Other people will think of it like it's... Speaker 5 (15:46) FAP plus the icons. I'm not going to say it. As an alliance, go for it, Pouya. I just think that his kind of dramatic way of doing this was really fun. This season, we've had a lot of fun versions of Cam Talks. This one plus Melody talking on the phone to her mom is fun. And so, yeah, I like that they included all of this. And yeah, I like the way that we transition from this both into the conversations about the Diamond Power beat up and the new alliance that gets formed as well. Speaker 4 (16:28) Yeah. Rick, I think is... You know, they always talk about him as a showman, but I think in the diary room, a lot of times it can come off as canned. And so I thought that this was like a really authentic way of us getting his thoughts that came across in a more organic and natural way than a lot of like what he tells us in the diary room. Speaker 3 (16:52) Yeah, I think that it's one of those things probably, right? Where when you're in that room, you know exactly where the camera is. It's in your face. You know what you're in there to do. I believe you have a prompt. I believe you have something to say. But I think once you're in that house long enough, you forget that your ambiance has cameras. You know, ultimately, because a lot of them still do talk to the cameras like they're talking to someone directly. But I think it becomes a lot more normal to them. Yeah. Speaker 5 (17:20) It's also something about this conversation and not to try and sound like a huge Devin Stan, but I am. So Speaker 2 (17:27) I'll Speaker 5 (17:28) admit it. I feel like Devin's is a really great example of any and also Angela. Let's throw her in there, too, of why we need to do even just slightly more. diversity and age and casting because when you have like one person in the house who's in their 40s or 50s or 60s it's always like oh they're the token older person the end and if you put more of them in we actually can see like hey there's gameplay there too like there's excitement there's fun and i know that angela and devins are both reality tv icons but like They got that way at the same age on other shows. So it's fine. And it's just showing a difference in even just the way that he thinks and talks. And it's not always going to be like super strategic necessarily, but like, let's just see some variety here instead of it all just being the youngins. Speaker 3 (18:25) Yeah. So next year. 15 people, 40 to 60 years old, one 22-year-old. Let's flip it. Speaker 5 (18:34) Yes, golden big brother. Golden Speaker 4 (18:37) big brother. That'd be great. Okay, so should we talk through whether or not Rick should use the diamond power of veto here? Because I don't think it's necessarily the cleanest cut decision. Speaker 4 (18:54) personal thought on it is ultimately like it's kind of like not unlike the 50-50 coin that he threw up but only a couple of months ago for us but it's not a slam dunk this wasn't a sure thing to that the diamond power veto is going to work and there's still a non-zero chance you know kamu could win the blockbuster tomorrow and rick devins could ultimately be in a real predicament by, you know, in 25 hours. So what do we think? Was this a no-brainer decision? Um... Go ahead, Speaker 3 (19:34) Mary. Speaker 5 (19:35) Yeah. I mean, I think that the reality of it is with the votes where they are in the House, it's pretty much a guarantee that Haley or Kamu is going. And so that's something like that. That's not nothing. Even if Kamu doesn't go, I think it's really, really important that every possible it's really, really important for people who do not want. to be steamrolled by the two people, Yash and Kamu, who are most likely to win competitions, that if they want pretty much any chance at power, they need to get Kamu and Yash out. Now, nothing is a guarantee. Kamu and Yash could lose the next several and other people could take them out. But we've seen the pattern before many, many times where it literally only takes two people to trade off or to win all of the vetoes or whatever. At this point, like you just mentioned, Kamu has a great opportunity to win the blockbuster here. And so even that fact, you kind of just have to take every opportunity to get them out because even saying like, oh, he was in a good spot with them. Why didn't he just align with them? Yeah, that's a great way to get. third fourth fifth sixth place but it's gonna be really difficult to get into the end especially when kamu and yash are going to take each other to the end so um i kind of just feel like you have to try at this point plus i mean regardless took d off so that was you know yeah like even half of the power is great yeah Speaker 3 (21:06) i think that um i think there's a couple of ways to look at it because i think if you're devins and you have good relationships with quite a few people I've seen the argument of why wouldn't he just keep it for himself for next week or the week after when he needs it or if he needs it. I think we've seen a lot of powers flop on Big Brother because the person who has them ultimately doesn't need them because they win everything. They win the... So he could... His side has only... Like, he has only been in trouble... Like, Icaz has only been in trouble once this season. This week. And he's used it the first chance he got. I think that's not a bad idea, especially when your closest ally is the one on the block. And D could be a very tempting target to shift to later. I think the other one that we definitely do need to talk about that Mary brings up is the competitions of it all. You know, as much as a lot of us watch the show for everything else but the comps, the comps do play a big role. And these two as a duo are dangerous for these competitions. If Speaker 1 (22:01) you do not take Speaker 3 (22:02) your Speaker 4 (22:02) chance Speaker 3 (22:02) at one of them, Speaker 3 (22:07) early on, you might end up regretting that. Kamu could easily win the next competition, and at that point, you're behind, and you're just going to stay behind. So I understand that Kamu could win the blockbuster, win the next stage, put him up, he goes home next week. That could easily happen. But I think Rick Devins also does not care. He would rather go for gold. And then in the event that he doesn't get gold, he can still have iconic moments to look back on. A memory, a highlight reel to look back on. And that's what he did here. Speaker 4 (22:34) Yeah, I think he kind of gets painted into a corner by the, ultimately, I think the decision comes down to like, hey, I'm Rick Devins. I have to do Rick Devins things. So he sort of like, I think doesn't have a choice to not use the power when he has the chance to, especially when his thing is like, hey, when I have a number one, I'll do anything to save my ally. So he sort of has that narrative that's sort of built in. And so he, like, I don't know how he could not use it. So I think that the thing is also that Kamu is the person that they're going to go for. And if you can take out Kamu here, you may not
