Speaker 3 (0:09) Welcome to Rob Has a Podcast. We are here tonight to talk about this two-hour or 13-hour Wednesday night veto episode of Big Brother 28. I'm your host, Taren Armstrong. And with me tonight, we have some lovely guests. First, we have Amon. How are Speaker 2 (0:29) you Speaker 3 (0:29) doing, Amon? Speaker 2 (0:30) Hey, hey. Happy to be here. Talking about the pressure cooker yet again. So happy. Speaker 3 (0:40) Don't do this to me. Also with us, it's Kirsten. How you doing, Kirsten? Speaker 4 (0:48) I'm doing great. This is perfect. You had me the day before the veto. I'm on the day after the veto. So we all just had to have a family reunion to celebrate that competition. Speaker 3 (1:01) Yes, yes, we are here. And we're going to talk about this episode with two hours of content. I think that honestly, for a two hour episode, I would normally be dreading it, especially this late into the season. They did, I think, plan for it accordingly. We had an appropriately long veto competition and appropriately long segments or segments for said veto competition. So that actually helped, I think, a bunch. Obviously, we get a couple of those like fucker segments thrown in as well. But we also had the family segment in this one, which I thought was nice. So I think for a two hour episode, not bad. Speaker 2 (1:47) Yeah, I mean, I think I was fairly engaged and I think, you know, just the fact that there is some level of intrigue at this point in the game also lends well to having a bit of a longer episode. So, yeah, I think, you know, for two hours, not bad, not bad at all. Speaker 4 (2:07) Yeah, I think the last 90 minute episode I covered felt longer than this two hour ones like that's great. That's great news. The pacing was better. Speaker 3 (2:15) Yes, and I did feel like the Vito competition was, as I said, appropriately lengthy in time spent on it. And it felt long. It felt epic. And really, the only thing I missed from it was that, guys, Yash was so sick. Not in the cool way, but in the actually ill. No, that's also sometimes cool. Like he was actually coughing and like he felt he had a sickness. Speaker 4 (2:48) He has an upper respiratory situation. Speaker 3 (2:51) Yeah. Yeah. Why do those words mean cool? It sucks to be sick. Speaker 4 (2:57) I mean, I think it's one of those things where it's like you're like reclaiming it. Speaker 2 (3:01) Yeah. Yeah. You know what? You're so sick that it's healthy again, you know? Just like a Speaker 4 (3:08) target so big it disappears. Speaker 2 (3:11) Exactly. Exactly. Um, Speaker 4 (3:14) he was, don't talk about it too much. You're going to get me in trouble again. People were not happy. Speaker 3 (3:20) Oh no. Wait, they weren't happy with what? Your take was the. People stay home when they're sick, right? I guess we shouldn't talk about it. Speaker 4 (3:29) Listen, and apparently because I faked sick in elementary school, that's why people can't call in sick to this day. So everything is my Speaker 2 (3:35) fault. Speaker 3 (3:35) You ruined it for everyone, Kirsten. You're ruining all of our games. Speaker 4 (3:40) No, literally, Taryn, next time you feel sick, you could say, well, I would feel guilty about calling in, but it's fine. Eight-year-old Kirsten did that for me 25 years ago. Speaker 3 (3:49) Yeah, yeah. But Speaker 2 (3:51) he was Speaker 4 (3:52) so sick. Speaker 3 (3:55) We started this episode with the longest recap, I think, of my life. But then we started the episode with the post-nominations, the nominations that were basically a foregone conclusion in the first place. And really, like, I think a lengthy time to both kind of talk through the state of the house, which is actually kind of nice. as well as set up the family segment, which they actually aired out of order. The family segment was actually after the veto competition, but they aired it before, which ultimately didn't make that much of a difference. But we get set up on like, okay, Yash made this deal with the Endeavons and he's looking to rock with them to final four. But uh-oh, Cutthroat D is still here. She might actually be looking to take a shot. a little bit earlier. In the meantime, Drew is looking to still get in with the icons and make sure that they're going to keep him this week. And Melody and Bear are mostly just annoyed with Drew. It's really kind of the overall vibe of the house. Speaker 2 (5:10) Yeah. Speaker 2 (5:13) Very part of the course for Drew. Very sort of like part of the course as via this bribe for Yash. All of them sort of just like trying to get in with this power structure and the icons. And at this point in the game, you know, it makes sense for both of them in different ways. Although it is annoying. to have to watch because I feel like the reason that it makes sense is because of how they were playing before. So, you know, it's like one of those things where it's like, well, you've gone this far. You might as well keep on going, baby. So. Speaker 4 (5:59) BB28, the season of the sunk cost fallacy. Speaker 2 (6:04) Literally, honestly. Speaker 3 (6:07) In many ways, sunk cost fallacy and also getting lucky, I think, is kind of... Speaker 4 (6:14) better to be lucky than good. Apparently I'm going to be carrying that forward in my life. Yeah. Speaker 3 (6:19) Yeah. Yeah. Um, we finally got set up on, I hadn't even realized that they never, they'd never shown this in the episodes before that, uh, Melody has been talking to her mom on the phone all season long. And I don't mean literally, uh, obviously she is only. pretending that her mom, because I just want to make sure people are clear on this in case they think that there's that telephone is actually connected to anything. But no, in fact, she is just pretending to talk to her mom. It's like her mechanic for talking to the cameras. A lot of people, they'll sit in a room. We actually saw some of what Barrett was doing when he was talking to the cameras. They sit in a room alone. They talk to the cameras to communicate their thoughts. Sometimes they talk to a person. But in her case, because they have these prop phones, she's been just like genuinely acting like she's on the phone with her mom. And it's kind of like the coolest like method to do this. Like it's really clever and cute. And I was like, like, oh, we're getting this on the show, I guess, for the first time. Here we go. It's nice. I think it's fun that it made the show. And obviously they were doing this to prep for the family segment. Right. Speaker 2 (7:36) know, I liked it too. You know, I, you know, I, in school, we just did like a little bit of a mental health unit and we talked about like therapeutic communication strategies and stuff like that. And a lot of self-talk and it is, you know, there's a lot of psychological research that says talking aloud or, um, having someone that you envision talking to can really help you get your thoughts out and get your feelings out. And for someone who has screamed quite a bit to herself in the house, I think that this is definitely. a healthier outlet and a better way to go. So I'm glad that her mom is, you know, she is technically still talking to her mom. Her mom can definitely watch the live Speaker 3 (8:13) feed. So Speaker 2 (8:14) it's not entirely, you know, not happening. It's just a bit one-sided, but it works. If it works, it works. So I'm here for you. Speaker 4 (8:22) Well, I'm like, even the screaming and stuff like it. Melody lets out her emotions in generally speaking, like a fairly healthy way, at least when she's dealing with it by herself. Maybe not so much when she's being mean to people, but like yelling, getting the energy out when you will wake up in the morning and Melody's crying in the shower. Like these are normal things that she's doing. And I think it's way better than letting it just bottle up inside you. Speaker 2 (8:48) It reminds me so much of. of the phone that was in the BB18 house, which then became the BBOTT house. And we got Justin messing with the phone all of the time and him picking up that phone one time and being like, hey, can I get an order of this shit crazy? All right, thank you. Like it just it when people mess with the props in the house, it always brings me such joy. It's funny. And that just brought back memories I had long forgotten. Yeah, it was Speaker 3 (9:18) a Speaker 2 (9:18) wild ride. Speaker 3 (9:19) Yeah, I guess, you know what, if it's healthy to just talk out loud and pretend that you're actually talking to people, is that like, that must be why I'm so mentally healthy. I'm just constantly talking on podcasts. Darren, you are Speaker 4 (9:33) talking to other people. There's real people on the other side of the screen. Speaker 3 (9:37) That's what Speaker 4 (9:37) you're Speaker 3 (9:37) saying, but I have no proof of that. Speaker 4 (9:40) You just met them all in Milwaukee. Well, not all of them, but a lot of them. We Speaker 2 (9:43) don't exist, Taryn. We're all a figment of your imagination. You Speaker 3 (9:48) could be real people that exist in the world that I'm just imagining. That you have constructed. In my head. Oh Speaker 4 (9:55) my Speaker 3 (9:55) God. Speaker 4 (9:56) Well, I certainly hope not because I wish for better for you, Taryn. Speaker 3 (10:04) Well, we get that. We get some of like Drew and Dee bonding. We get Devin's who admits later to Dee is like, I feel like I was really bad at comforting you when you were sad about Angela because he was. She's in a better place. It's okay. Speaker 4 (10:25) It was funny. Was it comforting? Not so much. It wasn't really giving Dee what she needed, but they're back on track. It's okay now. Speaker 3 (10:33) Yes. And I think that segment was interesting because it implied that the sad Dee is separate from the cutthroat Dee, but it's not like cutthroat Dee came back and returned. she's always cutthroat D. She's just also sometimes sad D at the same time. She was thinking the cutthroat thoughts as she was also sad about Angela. But this is the inevitable consequence of keeping D in the game is that she is going to encourage Devins to go back on a deal that maybe he wouldn't have thought to go back on at least as early. Speaker 3 (11:17) She's also more likely to win than Angela here. So it's like already we're kind of seeing the unfortunate results for Taylor and Yash for having kept Dee in the game. Speaker 4 (11:30) Dee contains multitudes and she is that girl. She should not have been able to convince Yashin Taylor to keep her. And she did. So it's not surprising that there is a pretty immediate negative ramifications for them, but it doesn't make it any less impressive what Dee pulled off last week. Speaker 2 (11:48) Yeah, it's. Speaker 2 (11:53) The risk of sounding like a broken record. You know what? No. Congrats, Dee. Say Speaker 4 (11:57) it, Iman. Let it out. No, no. Don't hold it in. That's unhealthy. Speaker 2 (12:03) I need to call my mom. One second. I just, I just, I just feel, no, no, I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it. I'm not letting this show take me to a level that I don't need to go right now. Therapeutic communication to myself. Congratulations, Dee. She did a great job. She said the things that she needed to say. She hit the pressure points that she needed to press. And it got these fools to do her bidding and to keep her in the house. And she is not she's not letting up either. And she's making sure that the sacrifice of Angela is not in vain. And she's putting herself in a position where she still has people that should not be wanting her around, wanting to work with her and sucking up to her. So it's like, I mean, you got to give the props where they are. It just is what it is. Good for her. Speaker 4 (12:48) I'm on. I want a voice memo on my desk approximately 30 seconds after this. Yes. Speaker 2 (12:55) If you would like the unedited version of what I have to say, please comment on this video with the number zero. Oh, boy. Speaker 3 (13:06) Well, they do set up this family segment, which we get to see. It's very cute. It's very funny to see Becca and Devin's kids, just because I feel like we've already seen so much of them over... the season. Just like on social media, obviously we spoke with Becca early in the season. And so normally you see the families. You're seeing them for the first time. I already felt like I knew them. Very cute stuff though. We get to see Melody's mom who looks just Speaker 2 (13:45) like her. Twins. Speaker 4 (13:46) Yeah. Speaker 2 (13:47) I was like, oh my gosh. Older sister, what's going on? She looks beautiful. I love the family visits, whether it's Survivor or Big Brother. In a lot of ways, I feel like it's even more brutal on Big Brother because it's just they're right there on the screen, which you can't touch them, at least with Survivor. They fly them out. You can have a kiss, have a hug, not even have a reward, have some Outback Steakhouse or whatever restaurant is sponsoring Survivor these days. And you have like a nice little getaway in Fiji. There, they're still in that stanky old living room. Speaker 3 (14:22) It's been much longer. And Speaker 2 (14:24) it's been much longer. Yeah. And there they are. And then you're like wondering, like, well, why was this person in the video when this person wasn't? Like, what's going on? Like, y'all couldn't get together to film a whole video for me? Like, what is going on? So, like, it's lovely, but it's also brutal at the same time. But I love that, like, universally, house guests. castaways they always say that it gives them that boost that they need to push through because there's nothing like seeing people that you know 100 unequivocally love you and support you seeing them like express that to you it's like it's it's fuel it's like it just it just takes you there so it was it was lovely to see everybody's humanity when you spend so much time either loving or hating them unless you watch them on the season yeah i mean Speaker 4 (15:09) i Speaker 3 (15:10) They're Speaker 4 (15:11) so good. I'm such a sucker for a family visit. Just the thought of being away and then you get to see that. Barrett was weeping through everybody's videos. That would be me in that circumstance 100%. And I'm not as much of a crier as some other people. Speaker 3 (15:30) Come Speaker 4 (15:30) on. And Devin's Speaker 2 (15:32) at Speaker 4 (15:32) the start being like, well, and if it is the videos, everyone be quiet. It's like, OK, we're all fulfilling our roles. Speaker 3
