Speaker 4 (0:08) Hey, everybody. What's going on? Rob Cesarino back with you here on finale night of Big Brother 28. A lot to unpack. Congratulations to Rick Devins, the winner of Big Brother 28. He flipped the coin in Survivor 50. He added a million dollars to the pot. Yada, yada, yada. It basically comes back to him after a summer of work here in the Big Brother house to talk about everything from finale night. Here with us, a man who has finally come to the end of a long journey this summer into autumn. It's Taryn Armstrong. Taryn, how are you? Speaker 3 (0:51) I'm doing great, Rob. I mean, I think we have our official soundbite of the summer. Daddy wants the dub. Okay. Daddy wants the dub and he got it. Speaker 4 (1:02) Yes. Speaker 4 (1:05) That's it. That's it. A big win. Big win for Daddy Devin's here tonight. 6-1 over Taylor. And he only Speaker 3 (1:14) had to sacrifice his firstborn child. Speaker 4 (1:16) Yes. Yes. We'll talk about all of the drama from finale night here. The woman who just got off of Twitch. And I'm so excited to be back talking to the voice of the people, Melissa Denny. Speaker 1 (1:30) Yes, I just Twitch streamed. It was insane. It was really honestly pretty crazy. It was just so chaotic. But on it, I mentioned that I have not done a podcast with you, Rob, since literally the season premiere. So this is very exciting and I'm so happy to be here. Yeah, exactly. Bookends. What a great season. What a great result. It was such a fun finale. Yeah, very fun. Speaker 4 (1:53) Okay. And then here with us, back. to talk about it all it's the duke of deception please david killipuya how are you Speaker 5 (2:03) I'm good. I'm happy to be here with y'all for the finale. And, you know, for myself, Melissa and Taryn, Rob, we're excited to talk to the draft champion. You had both the final two. It's been a long time coming. I had both people in the final two? Speaker 4 (2:19) That, wow. That's good. That's good. Speaker 5 (2:23) Has Speaker 4 (2:24) anybody ever done that before? Oh, yeah. BB23. Rob, Speaker 5 (2:30) we've been there. But not in five Speaker 4 (2:32) years. Speaker 4 (2:35) So Speaker 1 (2:35) it doesn't count, honestly. Apparently not. Speaker 3 (2:39) Rob, for all the coin talk, I feel like the two of us flipped a coin. I chose D instead of Devins. Obviously, we're going to choose one of the two. I thought... I thought she was going to be better at comps than Devin's. Speaker 4 (2:52) Yeah. Well, listen, I think we could unpack a lot from the draft. I feel like that's not what people are here to hear us talk about right now. Are you sure? Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure. Pretty Speaker 1 (3:04) exciting. Yeah. Speaker 4 (3:05) But, you know, it was a big surprise, ultimately, I guess, or maybe if you not a big surprise, if Speaker 1 (3:12) you Speaker 4 (3:12) listen to Taryn's last live feed update from today of Rick. Getting the very compelling case from Taylor to ultimately make the decision to cut Drew in the final two, it worked perfectly from Rick's perspective of sending Drew to the jury, knowing that that would be that person who would be another vote for him. I'm not sure if he realized that he would have six votes up against Taylor, but. It was the most emotional moment, I think, of the finale for sure. And one I think we'll remember. So a lot to talk about there. Taryn, let me go to you first. What's your thoughts tonight? Speaker 3 (3:58) I mean, I thought this was a phenomenal finale. I mean, the emotion of cutting Drew, the passion in the answering of questions, the way that so many things were paid off also, the way that like Drew had practiced his final two speech, he ends up sort of like blurting some of it out to Julie on his way out. of the game that, you know, he, he talks to Devon. He's I'm not just, I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed. It was a great callback. Speaker 1 (4:27) That was great. Speaker 3 (4:29) The, again, the emotion of that decision, the fact that Taylor manages to convince Devon. at the last minute to take her instead of Drew. You know, people talk about like playing a game for second place, but like she genuinely played a very good second place game. She earned that second place spot by talking Devins into it. And so just a very, very good stuff overall. And I thought it was like for a finale, pretty decently paced, I will say for what I'm used to. Yeah. Melissa, how Speaker 4 (5:02) about for you? Speaker 1 (5:04) Yeah, I mean, I feel like this was a great result. I feel like it represents the season, I think, very well. I think that Taylor making that last-minute move to convince Devin to take her, that is so impressive. I can't believe that that worked, that she thought to do that. I mean, it was, I mean, I thought for sure Devin was taking Drew. I thought that there was no way. And the way that she convinced him to take her, was just, I mean, that's stunning. So she did a great job. I felt so emotional for Drew. I felt, I mean, I just, my heart broke. And Devin's though, like, I mean, when his kids were crying and hugging him, I teared up. It was just such an emotional finale all around and just such a fun, fun end of the season for sure. Speaker 4 (5:56) Yeah. And for you, Pouya? Speaker 5 (6:01) I thought, okay, most of the night was fun. I do think, though, some of the pacing, and we can talk about this a little more once we unpack, some of the pacing I wasn't happy about. I do agree and echo what Melissa said. Taylor's move of getting, like, literally Drew's move at the Final Four was to guarantee himself a seat in the Final Two. He was not in the Final Two. That's incredible that Taylor was able to take that. I think from there on, the result was a little bit foregone. The final two felt a little bit lopsided. The questioning felt very much similar as well. Yeah. But I think that it was ultimately a fun time. Speaker 4 (6:37) Yeah. What a great job by Rick. There really was only one point when his fate was not in his hands in the season. He wins the blockbuster twice. He wins the veto during the double eviction to save himself. And then it was one week ago tonight, we sat there and it was another last minute decision where the vote was going to be against him. He convinces Drew to keep keep him for one more round. So ultimately in Drew's mind, maybe he would be the one evicting Rick Devins on finale night. And Rick saves his game, wins the game really that in that moment of getting Drew to evict D over him. And I'm just so proud of Rick Devins for pulling this off to have gotten so close on survivor, both in the edge of extinction. And not as close in season 50, but to make a deep run in season 50. And this is a person who, don't forget, was once upon a time evicted or I'm sorry, I'm getting my streams crossed, voted out of the game on, I think, day 11 of season 38. Speaker 3 (7:57) Like Speaker 4 (7:57) fourth person out, right? The first person out of his tribe. I'm sorry. I don't want to get... I'm getting all the stories crossed up. Speaker 4 (8:08) to be a winner tonight. Speaker 1 (8:10) A Speaker 4 (8:11) reality TV winner, Rick Devins. And I'm just so proud of what he was able to do and that the high that he is on right now, I don't think he's ever coming down. Speaker 1 (8:24) Obviously, Survivor was not his game, but Big Brother is his game. I mean, this was so... Well, Speaker 3 (8:29) he didn't pick a side, Melissa. Speaker 1 (8:31) Yeah, I know. That was like, that's a great answer. I was like, okay, all right. But yeah, I feel like... And he did a similar thing where he answered the question, which was, whose game did you control the most? Or who did you feel like you controlled the most in the house? And the obvious answer is Drew. But if he said Drew... that would probably make Drew be like, okay, no, I had my own game. I did my own thing. And instead of picking anyone else in the jury, you pick people outside of the jury of like, oh yeah, no, I, I control these other people, none of you guys. So I felt like that was such, just such a great answer. I mean, he had great answers all around. Speaker 4 (9:09) He's going to give you great answers. You're not going to cross him up with jury questioning or anything like that. He's going to be prepared. And in a spot like that, Julie's not going to get him to disparage a survivor where he knows that it's very possible, you know, he may well be playing survivor again one day. Speaker 3 (9:28) Yeah. I like that you bring up the final four because I am very happy that the final four played out the way that it did with the Devins win, where like, I always want at least one of those moments for my winner of the show, right? Like... I love in Kageyan that Tony has to convince Wu. You know, he doesn't have an idol. He doesn't have immunity. He has to get that one moment. It really like seals the victory in, right? And the fact that Devin's did have that moment of vulnerability and did have to not only talk his way through it, but had to compete against D, his partner in the game, who up to that point had always had more influence, had always been the person who had been able to survive. more than Devins. He had to outmaneuver her in order to survive to that final three where he then goes on to win. I think that it's a very sort of poetic ending to their journey as he goes on to win this game. Speaker 4 (10:33) And to make one other comparison to Tony, who in addition to getting Wu to take him to the end, he also cut... His other closest ally, Trish, at the final five to send her to the jury to go and vote for him. And so that was also another thing where he knew he could send Drew. He could burn Drew as bad as he did and know that Drew is still going to vote for him in that final two. Speaker 1 (10:56) Yeah, that was. And I Speaker 5 (10:59) do. I do think winning. If you're about to win, you might as well bestow your first fate upon your son. Now Drew has the exact... At the doors of victory, the doors get shut on him. He gets to have... Speaker 4 (11:14) Drew... Listen, this was a tough night for Drew. Drew is going to be fine. Drew is going to get over this. I'm telling you, he's going to be on a TikTok live. He's going to be on so many reality Speaker 1 (11:28) shows. Speaker 4 (11:28) Playing Speaker 1 (11:28) a Speaker 4 (11:28) game with dollars on his head by the end of the night. He'll be in a Jubilee video tomorrow. Drew is going to be great. He's going to be on four more reality shows by the end of the year, okay? Speaker 1 (11:41) I will say that by the end, I was hoping that he would get America's favorite player because I felt like then everybody in the night would get something. But, you know, like it's fun for Devins to win, but I do always like spreading the wealth a little bit and not giving so much to one person instead. Kind of like, but yeah. Speaker 3 (11:59) If you're Devins, you kind of slide the Pharaoh's curse money over to True. Speaker 1 (12:05) Oh, for sure. Speaker 3 (12:06) Yeah, I'm sure. Speaker 1 (12:07) Turns out I didn't need this. Speaker 4 (12:10) Yeah, I think you'd get him like a nice gift. I think so. I Speaker 5 (12:15) think Speaker 4 (12:16) it serves a valuable Speaker 5 (12:17) life lesson if he keeps all the money and doesn't give Drew any of it. Speaker 1 (12:21) I do think at this point. I think it is good for the future of the show to show that like just being loyal to your alliance or to a person or whatever, like you could get burned. Like you need to be looking out for yourself because I feel like if Drew ends up winning it or. if Devin's takes him to the final two, it's like a Derek Cody thing where for a while after that, it was like, we were an alliance together the whole time. The hit men, we never would have betrayed each other. I wouldn't matter if I won or not. I wouldn't betray you. Like to me, that is not a good lesson to learn. So this is honestly much better for the future of the show, but certainly sad for Drew. Speaker 4 (13:00) Certainly sad for Drew. Mari in the chat says maybe a Birkin for Drew. Speaker 4 (13:08) Devins, if you're listening, I know a guy who can help you get one. Speaker 3 (13:15) I just, I always, any finale that has a brutal final, like, vote out is a good one in my books. Like, I think that Cody cutting Nicole is one of the best parts of an otherwise pretty lackluster all-star season. I think people will remember this moment because it hits you deeply. It doesn't really matter how you feel about Drew as a player. Like... you feel what that must feel like because anybody can put themselves in that position. He thought he was going there with his Speaker 1 (13:49) dad and Speaker 3 (13:50) his dad said, I'm sorry. Speaker 1 (13:53) Yeah. Speaker 3 (13:54) Yeah. It Speaker 1 (13:54) was very, I think very much. I think that Speaker 5 (13:56) obviously every person who gets cut at the final three is, is hurting a little bit in that moment tonight though, this might've been the closest. I think I've felt to watching the. survivor live reunion that we get nowadays on the in the new era of survivor where why did you say before the Speaker 4 (14:15) commercial no Speaker 5 (14:17) not that not in that way not that kind of live reunion but like i mean i mean reunion right after the vote and you're seeing three people two of them are devastated and everyone around them's laughing eating pizza that's how it felt tonight watching drew because he was sad right make no mistake again this man thought i'm guaranteed at least 75 grand He got none of that. He now sits there. And then, and then what happens? One of his closest allies immediately goes, yup. He lied to you. Didn't he? Like Barrett rubbing it in the wound immediately. Speaker 1 (14:48) That was chilling. That was chilling. I know. When he said that, I was like, oh, you don't need to, you don't need, he's already sad. Like, please. Oh, that was rough. Yeah. Speaker 4 (15:01) So he said that to him. And then I thought that Julie was it was interesting that she weighed in on it. Also, I have the clip of that. If I can if I could bring it up. What she said was that I thought this was so interesting. She did it this way. She said. Speaker 4 (15:23) Barrett just said he lied to you, bro. Speaker 2 (15:25) This is Big Brother, you can bounce checks in the Big Brother house. You sure can. Don't hate the game, all right. Speaker 3 (15:34) I Speaker 2 (15:34) mean, don't hate the player. But Speaker 4 (15:36) I do think that was a little bit unusual that she was like, well, hey, he's allowed to lie. I think that Julie should probably like, you know, stay out of it. Julie's been doing a lot of Speaker 3 (15:49) like running defense for some players. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I do feel Speaker 1 (15:57) like... In any normal situation, I'd be like, oh, it's fine. Because like, yeah, that's fun and add to it. But it's like, he's about to vote. And so being told like, oh, it's fine. Like, you're lying in Big Brother. That's part of the game. Like, it's influential to someone who's about to vote, potentially. Speaker 3 (16:15) And literally later on, she's like, when he goes to cast his vote. And granted, it happens right after he casts the vote. But she's like. Well, we'll see about that after we see what you voted. Speaker 5 (16:30) Yeah. What happened to Julie saying I can neither confirm nor deny? Like, we're just throwing that out the window at this point. We're just putting our thumbs on the scale. She's Speaker 1 (16:38) too excited for a potential Rick Devins win. Yeah. I feel like, so I think that Taylor's speeches were very well rehearsed and well done. I think the problem was. when she talked about things that she didn't necessarily have control over as being moves that she made. And I think that the people, you could see the reactions of the people in the jury. They were kind of just like, what? No, and like looking at each other and shaking their heads. And that is not the response you want when you're telling about your biggest move or your most influential move. And I feel like a lot of her, a lot of her speech was about how she like, came from the bottom, like in the game, and she didn't really have anyone. And now look at her. She's here. I feel like she should have been like, my most influential move was being here tonight and making sure Devin's picked me. I convinced him to pick me over his closest ally. Like, I think that's her biggest move. She Speaker 4 (17:42) didn't actually even bring that up. But Rick Devin's was the only one who mentioned that in the final two. Yeah, Speaker 1 (17:46) and Speaker 4 (17:46) why did he do that? He shouldn't Speaker 1 (17:48) have brought that up. up he should have just been like yeah i'm sorry i felt like i could beat taylor like that makes him look worse and her look better but i guess to drew it might make him look nicer i don't know but man Speaker 4 (17:58) yeah Well, I think that what Rick was doing, and he did this twice, I felt like that what Rick, the reason why he mentioned it both in the house and then on the jury was he really wanted to try to, like, I think this was to win Drew's vote of like, hey, she said she wasn't going to vote for me and she was also going to flip Lala's vote. And it was a good move, but my hands were tied. What was I going to do? And I think that Rick really wanted to show Drew of like, well, you know, she had a gun to my head in like proverbially of like, I was going to lose two votes if I ultimately didn't go to the end. So I think he really was trying to put the onus on it. It's Taylor's fault why I had to do this to you. Speaker 3 (18:46) Yeah, I think that's exactly what it was. I think that's why he brought it up. But I do think like I do think it was like a mistake. And as much as anything is a mistake when you're already when it doesn't cost him any votes. Speaker 4 (18:58) Yeah. Speaker 3 (18:59) Yeah. I mean, like the thing the thing about this is that like whether or not he needed it, Devens did a really, really good jury management. One of my favorite tools that not enough people use is using an ally to go and help you in the jury. Dee and Devin's agreed ahead of time that if Dee went to the jury house, which she didn't, she went to the round table, which is enough. She was going to give him credit for everything they did together. We see him subtly imply this when he says that he had advantages that he found very clever ways to use. Though notably, he didn't outright say that it was his idea because I wouldn't I'd be like, what if he didn't say that? But he implied it if she did so that he would get credit for it. And then another thing, and this was a huge mistake, I think that Taylor made is that Taylor told Devins ahead of time what she planned to say her biggest move was in her jury speech. And. there were many people that thought, well, she must be lying. Like she's not going to tell him the truth about what she's actually going to say. Turns out it was the truth. She had said to Devin's that she planned to take credit for the lyric flip and Devin's knew that she didn't plan the lyric flip. He told D before she went to the jury house, she's going to try to say this. So like.
