Also, I would love for you to check out the bonus episodes. They're available on Apple Podcast and on Patreon. And of course, I'd love for you to join the conversation over my Facebook group, Reality Life with Kate Casey. Okay, lots to watch this week. I want to start with some documentaries. Now, Lorne is on Netflix on October 5th. This is Morgan Neville's documentary, and it turns the camera toward Lorne Michaels. He's the producer whose decisions have influenced American comedy for 50 years. Now, he's been at the helm of the show with the exception of a five-year period from 1980 to 1985. This documentary includes interviews, archival material. and access to the workings of Saturday Night Live. The film premiered theatrically in April, and October 5th is the Netflix arrival. I think you're going to love it. It goes through the history of the show beyond, beyond a fan of the show. My life's obsession. I used to watch every episode and then try to recreate the scenes or the skits the next day to the great disappointment of my friends and family who were like, please, I cannot talk about this one more time. Speaker 1 (2:19) Lorne Michaels really created Speaker 2 (2:22) the most incredible careers of a lot of the talent who've gone on from the show to write, to produce, and to act in some of the best movies, TV, and Broadway shows. What you're going to love about this is that they're going to go back in time and talk about what he has contributed and how this show is at the intersection of so many things. with its live sketches, political satire, the musical performances, and then the rotating celebrity hosts, which I think gave TV a format that could respond immediately to what was happening in the country. So if there was a scandal, you'd see somebody making fun of themselves on Weekend Update, and it really helped their career or pivot. And it really, I think, allowed the country to laugh about... really difficult things or to highlight things that were absurd. It's a very special part of American Speaker 1 (3:22) culture. The Speaker 2 (3:23) show premiered in October of 1975. George Carlin was the first host. And the original ensemble included my favorite person of all time, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, and Lorraine Newman. And Lorraine has been on an episode of this podcast. I have tremendous respect for all of the talent that have come through. The way that they produce the show, it's such a well-oiled machine. And Lorne, you should know, has been behind so many of the great TV shows, movies, and shows. For example, his producing credits include 30 Rock, The Kids in the Hall, which, by the way, is one of the funniest shows of all time. If you can, go and look for clips of that show. Portlandia, Schmigadoon, Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Movies, Wayne's World, Tommy Boy, Mean Girls, Three Amigos, Broadway, Mean Girls, and Gilda Radner, Live from New York. He has received the Mark Twain
