Speaker 5 (0:04) I'm Mimi Brown, and every day on Front Page Podcast, I help you make sense of the stories shaping our world. Each day, I break down the biggest headlines. And when a story deserves a deeper conversation, I'll sit down with experts, newsmakers, and thought leaders to help you better understand the issue behind the headlines. Listen to Front Page from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 1 (0:35) Hi, guys. I'm Hoda Kotb, host of the podcast Joy 101 with Hoda Kotb. You know, I'm always searching for inspiration and useful tools through meaningful conversations with fascinating people. Like my longtime friend, Seth Meyers. I Speaker 2 (0:48) would often go back to my office and be like, you're not as funny as they are. And the most haunting thing about that is you can't outwork talent. Listen Speaker 1 (0:57) to Joy 101 with Hoda Kotb on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 6 (1:06) Hey, everybody, it's me, W. Kamau Bell. This season on my podcast, Who's With Me, I speak with Bruce Lee's daughter, Brandon Lee's sister, and my friend, Shannon Lee. Speaker 1 (1:16) Back to your initial point of stewarding my father's legacy and giving my energy to that. You're lending your life to stewarding somebody else's life. Speaker 2 (1:48) Someone's not going to make it out of this alive. Speaker 7 (1:51) Every piece of evidence pointed to the wrong guy. Speaker 2 (1:54) He was not going to stop unless we stopped him. Speaker 7 (1:58) Listen to Betrayal Season 6 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 8 (2:05) Is there an epidemic against literature? More specifically, Black literature. I'm Jacquees Peace Thomas, and on this season of the Black Lit Podcast, we're outside asking why. Speaker 1 (2:16) They don't want a whole bunch of little Ella Bakers, Malcolm Xs, and Martin Luther Kings running around. And when you look at a lot of different cultures, they're like, we need to know where you came from. And Speaker 8 (2:24) considering this is Black Reading Month, the only real question is, what are you reading next? Listen to Black Lit from the Black Effect Podcast Network on our iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 4 (2:48) Hello, and welcome back to Class Reunion. I am Marla Sokoloff. Speaker 3 (2:52) And I'm Lee Norris. Speaker 4 (2:54) And we are actors, ones who read scripts under meticulously placed lights and fabricated sets, who appreciate the craft and tradition of being a thespian. Sometimes I do. I mean, I feel like it kind of goes back and forth. But anyway, here we are, and we're fans of reality TV. In fact, I feel like we're more than fans. We are pretty much obsessed with reality TV. Speaker 4 (3:18) And we can't get enough of it, Lee. It's just something that we're obsessed with. Okay. I guess we're just gluttons for punishment here. Speaker 3 (3:26) Yes. And this here is a podcast where we share our passion for things like the Bravoverse and the upcoming Mormon Wives of Orange County who do not appear to be Mormon or from Orange County. More to come on that. It is our cry for help. Thanks for joining us. Speaker 4 (3:43) Hi, Lee. How has your scripted journey been going this week? I mean, Speaker 3 (3:48) it's been quite a week for me personally, Marla. Speaker 3 (3:55) I don't know if you notice anything different about me. No, I don't Speaker 4 (3:59) notice a thing. Let me take my glasses off so you Speaker 3 (4:02) can get a better look at. You know, are Speaker 4 (4:05) you channeling a certain housewife right now? Yeah. Speaker 3 (4:08) Now, you know, it was my birthday last weekend. I turned 45. It's been a little. You don't look a day Speaker 4 (4:14) over 25. Well, thank you. But Speaker 3 (4:17) it's been a little tough for me. And, you know, I thought, God, Meredith, her new face looks so good. And so I was able to get her surgeon's info and I asked for the Meredith special and this was the end result. Wow. I mean, you look exactly Speaker 4 (4:32) like her. And Speaker 3 (4:33) obviously this is my natural hair. This is. Okay. Speaker 4 (4:38) So for people who aren't watching right now, Lee has a full on Meredith Marks wig on, which is, I mean, how dare you Marla? Speaker 3 (4:48) This isn't a wig. Don't make me talk about your husband. I Speaker 4 (4:51) forgot that we are not supposed to talk about the wig. That is an unspeakable. I just pulled a Whitney. But wow, that, I didn't see this one coming. I Speaker 3 (5:01) know, I know. You're like, I haven't signed up to do a podcast with a crazy person. And you have. Was Speaker 4 (5:05) this Speaker 3 (5:05) a Speaker 4 (5:05) gift that someone gave you for your birthday? No, Speaker 3 (5:07) so Speaker 4 (5:07) here's the Speaker 3 (5:07) real story. You gifted yourself. Speaker 3 (5:11) The real story is, you know, we're getting ready for Halloween. And so we were looking at costumes on Amazon because my son wants to be like, go as like a family group costume as like the characters from the Minecraft movie. And so I was looking for Jason Momoa's like long haired wig. This is not that, but this popped up and I thought, oh my God, it looks kind of like Meredith's wig. I love Speaker 4 (5:39) it. It's so cute. I have to take it off. Oh, okay. No, I have to take it off because I'm going to die. Speaker 3 (5:44) It's a lot. It's a lot. It's a lot to put. I don't know how you guys put up with that. But Speaker 4 (5:49) also your hair looks so perfect underneath. Oh, good. Thank you. How Speaker 3 (5:52) did Speaker 4 (5:52) you manage that? I feel like a wig generally will make people's hair, like the real hair, go a little bit crazy. A Speaker 3 (5:57) little crazy. No, this looks great. It's a God-given gift. It really is. Speaker 4 (6:01) How was your birthday? It Speaker 3 (6:03) was good. You know, it was great. We kept it very family. We had, you know, a nice dinner. My parents came over, but I'm, I'm like a little bit freaked out because 45 is kind of a big one. And my doctors now, this is TMI, but you know, he's talking to me about getting my colonoscopy scheduled and I am, I'm terrified. Speaker 4 (6:23) Can I tell you a secret? Speaker 3 (6:25) Please. Speaker 4 (6:26) I am. I am an elder. I'm older than you. So much older. Yes. I am also 45, but at the end and nearing the end, Speaker 3 (6:35) not of my Speaker 4 (6:36) life, of my 45. Okay. All Speaker 3 (6:38) right. Not Speaker 4 (6:39) that I know of. But I recently also had the colonoscopy and let me just tell you something. Let me tell you, I'm Speaker 3 (6:46) going Speaker 4 (6:46) to give you a hot tip. Speaker 3 (6:47) Yeah. It Speaker 4 (6:48) was the best day of my life. I feel like everybody builds it up to be this thing where you should be scared of it. Yes. That's all I've heard. It's going to be horrible. Yeah. No, no, no, no. You have an entire day before the procedure where you have to drink. copious amounts of liquids. So, you know, obviously I had diet Sprite, like 45 diet Sprites. You get to have Jell-O. I got to have clear gummy bears and nobody came into my room. So it was like a sick day, but you're not sick. Like all of the kids were like, don't bother mom. She's, you know, on, she's Speaker 3 (7:21) in the, she's in the bathroom, you know, off limits. It was super off Speaker 4 (7:26) limits. And I found it all to be so relaxing and pleasant. And then the next morning you wake up. Yeah. And you go and then you get like a guided nap, a deep guided nap. And then you wake up and you go home and you're fine. So it's not like a normal surgery where you're like, I have to recover now. Although I did milk that day. I was like, I need to go home and just watch more reality TV. And it was, I think moms and dads, I think everybody. Actually, I'm not even going to say just parents. Every single person should have annual colonoscopies. Moms, maybe every six months. Sure. Well, I like this. I like this positive. I Speaker 3 (8:04) had not considered that. Everybody just told me that you're, you know, like in the bathroom and it's terrible. And so, but a vacation is what you're telling me. Yes, Speaker 4 (8:14) it is. It's a restful 48 hours. And I hope this happens to you as well. I also got. compliments on my prep. Like the doctor was like, you did such a great job. So I'd like to be complimented. And I felt like, you know, we're impressed with the work I did the day before. So there was payoff. And I say, everybody go get your colonoscopy. Oh Speaker 3 (8:40) my God. You got compliments. That's the last thing I want to hear from my doctor. Okay. Speaker 8 (8:49) Is there an epidemic against literature? More specifically, Black literature. Our books are being banned, scanned by AI, and destroyed. I'm Jacquees Peace Thomas, and on this season of the Black Lit Podcast, we're outside asking some of the custodians of our stories, teachers, and our modern day writers, why? Speaker 1 (9:10) They don't want a whole bunch of little Ella Bakers, Malcolm Xs, and Martin Luther Kings running around. They want to build children who have no empathy. That's really the ultimate goal. We want books that don't make white kids feel bad. Speaker 8 (9:21) So is the war on literacy and information or our ability to connect? We want people to know how sexy reading is and how fun it could be and not always associated with education. It could be an escape. It could be entertainment. And that is the beauty of reading. It can be all of those things. And considering this is Black Reading Month, the only real question is, What are you reading next? Listen to Black Lit from the Black Effect Podcast Network on our iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 1 (9:58) The WNBA playoffs are about to begin. The talent is insane and the personalities are giving main character energy. And of course, the fans love it. But 30 years ago, when the league first started, it was a different story. I remember sitting with a couple of male writers all whining about, oh, what are they going to do if they break a nail? No one's going to show up. But from the very beginning, there were two teams that captured everyone's attention. The Comets were the real deal. I mean, come on. The Liberty never gave up. They never stopped fighting. I knew that rivalry was going to be amazing from the beginning. I'm Carrie Champion, and this is Biggest Rivalries of All Time, Season 2. The New York Liberty versus the Houston Comets, the very first rivalry of the WNBA. They picked us to finish last. and they picked them to finish first. That's all you need to know. I remember looking around thinking, this is going to change things. Basketball was going to have this fundamental impact on the way people viewed women athletes. Listen to Biggest Rivalries of All Time on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Is there bad blood between you and the Comets as you guys meet again in the championship? Oh, we're coming back to win. Speaker 2 (11:17) Hi, I'm Bob Pittman, Chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia and host of the podcast, Math & Magic, Stories from the Frontiers of Marketing. I have some new exciting interviews coming to the Math & Magic feed this fall. iHeart's own Hoda Kotb is joining me to talk about her new business venture and podcast, Joy 101. Speaker 1 (11:36) Your timeline is not anybody else's. Stay in the game and let them find you. Speaker 2 (11:41) I'm also talking to Capital One's Mark Mentry. Be there in the key moments to build relationships. Because then when things go well, you can say, congratulations, guys. We do it at the end of iHeart Festival and Jingle Ball. And marketing executive Diego Scotti. The fourth stakeholder that to me is critical is society as a whole. That purpose-driven marketing should be part of your mainstream marketing, not just something that you do on the side. Listen to Math & Magic, stories from the frontiers of marketing on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 5 (12:15) I'm Mimi Brown, and every day on Front Page Podcast, I help you make sense of the stories shaping our world. Each day, I break down the biggest headlines, provide important context, and explain how these stories could impact your life, your family, and your community. My goal is to deliver clear, trustworthy information in a format that fits your schedule. And when a story deserves a deeper conversation, I'll sit down with experts, newsmakers, and thought leaders to help you better understand the headlines. I spoke with Gary Mayer, Eddie Melton about what's happening on the ground, whether race is playing a role, and what help is available for families who simply can't afford the added cost. Joining us now is Tennessee State Representative Justin J. Pearson. Thank you so much for having me. I appreciate it. Absolutely. Whether it's a major national story or an issue impacting your community, join me on Front Page. Listen to Front Page from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 6 (13:15) What up, y'all? This your main man, Memphis Bleak, right here. host of that Rock Solid podcast. And each week, we bring in new exclusive looks inside music, everything happening inside the culture. Some of the best conversations with the biggest names in the game. You Speaker 1 (13:30) had a little bit more pressure to be good. And they didn't care if you was a girl. Like, you wasn't getting no points because you was a girl. If you not trash, you better be not just good, you better be great. Speaker 6 (13:40) On Rock Solid. We talking the rap legends, hit-making producers, rising stars from the golden era to the future of this hip-hop game, where we keep it 100 % unfiltered and keep it nothing but rock solid. Yeah. The thing about Jay, my opinion is, he's been so great at being seen but mysterious. You know what I'm saying? He don't got to come talk about nothing. Nothing. You figure it out. So it's always a mystique and... mysteriousness behind them,
