Speaker 2 (0:02) I'm always harping on about how awful TikTok is for beauty content. Speaker 2 (0:08) And I've been proven right. Yes. Speaker 1 (0:15) Hello, I'm Nicola Bond. And I'm Perdi Norrell. And this is the Outspoken Beauty Editor. We've got a newsy episode for you. And just to warn you, we are going to be talking about puppies. We Speaker 2 (0:28) are, yeah. I'm sure you saw my content this week. I spread it far and wide. I did puppy yoga. Speaker 1 (0:34) What is puppy yoga and why did you do it? And where were the puppies sourced from? I'm so confused. Speaker 2 (0:41) Yeah, okay. So first of all, it was very ethically done. It was an ethical event. So they work, it's a company and they work with breeders who go through very strict checks. Everything's above board and they will do basically one or two events to just try and help socialize the puppies before they go to their forever Speaker 1 (1:02) home. Oh, okay. I get it. Yeah. Speaker 2 (1:06) So it's only one litter. So it's not like you're there with like 20 different puppies who have all sort of been like, you know, taken from their mums. It's, yeah, it's done. It's done very ethically. So, and you don't know what puppies you're going to get. So this was, oh, it was so sweet. I think every dog lover or even animal lover, it was really hard to just not have your heart melted. But it was a very special press event. So we did some yoga and then they let the puppies run around and it was like five or six chow chows. And they were just like sweet, fluffy balls of energy that just came and give you like. came and gave you like big sloppy kisses and just wanted all the cuddles and it was amazing but the reason the very long long-winded story about the puppy yoga is what um was that it was to celebrate rituals new dog care range and this is a big trend at the moment so I'm not sure if you've noticed but Speaker 1 (2:01) I have now was it started by Jo Malone London or I mean where did this all begin yeah so a Speaker 2 (2:07) couple of years ago I think keels actually really pipped everyone to the post so they They released a dog care range a couple of years ago, and then it kind of went quiet. And then the first brand I heard that were doing it was Glossier. So they sent me some, it would just seem to be dog merch. So I got some like Glossier merch poo bags and a lovely collar. I mean, everything's pink and my dog is a boy. So now when he's out, everyone thinks he's Speaker 1 (2:34) a Speaker 2 (2:34) girl. Speaker 1 (2:35) And Speaker 2 (2:36) then Jo Speaker 1 (2:37) Malone Speaker 2 (2:37) have also released a kind of fragrance. skincare dog range and now rituals are doing the same so Speaker 1 (2:46) I mean Speaker 2 (2:47) this the cynical journalist beauty journalist in me just thinks this smacks of like late stage capitalism um where it's like your sales are slumping. And so you're like, how else can we possibly make money? I think if I were to look at it from purely a business point of view, it does make a lot of sense. I think there are 15 million dogs living in households across the UK. That is Speaker 1 (3:14) crazy. Speaker 2 (3:15) Yeah. And, you know, I'm a dog owner. I'm a dog lover. I know that it seems like a sensible market to tap into because we will do you know, I'll go above and beyond for my dog. Well, Speaker 1 (3:29) I feel like now, like dog owners, well, a lot of dog owners I know have got a dog instead of having children. So it is actually their child. And a lot of women, as their kids get older, people who do have kids, that dog starts to take the place of the kids who are growing up. So I feel like it's such an emotional bond that you would do anything for them. Speaker 2 (3:52) For sure. And I think a big part of that is that, you know, as we know, like self-care beauty rituals are a huge part of our lives. It's
