It's October, Ray. Oh, spooky season. Spooky season is back. We couldn't be happier. This time we're going back to Green Lady Cemetery. They say it's haunted. First aired August 27th, 2020. Enjoy. Speaker 5 (1:28) So we're in a pretty rural part of Burlington, Connecticut. What are we looking for, Jeff? Ray, we're searching for a cemetery. All right, well, we've explored a cemetery or two before. Yeah. It shouldn't be too hard to Speaker 4 (1:39) find. Well, usually, no. Cemeteries are pretty easy to spot with acres of manicured grass and the well-kept headstones, things like that. But this one may not be so easy to locate. Okay, we should turn left up here on Upson Road, right over there. Got Speaker 5 (1:56) it. Speaker 4 (1:56) The cemetery we're looking for, it's just a small patch of land. Most of the headstones are long gone now. Speaker 5 (2:02) All right, but wait. There's a clearing right there on the right. It's enclosed by a colonial stone wall. I see a few rocks sticking out of the ground. Could those be broken off headstones? Speaker 4 (2:12) This is it, Ray. This is the Seventh Day Baptist Cemetery. Keep your eyes peeled, because we're searching for a ghost. They call the Green Lady. Speaker 4 (2:27) I'm Jeff Belander and welcome to episode 158 of the New England Legends podcast. But I think I've only heard it called Green Lady Cemetery. Speaker 4 (4:12) And that may very well be the name most people know best for this place. But officially, it's called the Seventh Day. Baptist Cemetery. Speaker 5 (4:21) Seventh-day Baptist? I've heard of Seventh-day Adventist. In fact, looking at the GPS, it says right now we're next to the Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery in Burlington, Connecticut. Speaker 4 (4:30) Yep, it does say that, but the GPS is wrong. Oh, okay. This is the Seventh-day Baptist Cemetery. And I admit, I had to look them up as well. Well, I'm... Glad we're not the only one. No, Seventh-day Baptists are a small denomination of Baptists, about 5,000 members in the United States. And they observe the Sabbath on Saturday, which is the biblical seventh day of the week. That's it? Speaker 5 (4:53) Saturday instead of Sunday? Speaker 4 (4:54) That's pretty much it. All right, I got it. So Speaker 5 (4:57) they were never a large group in the United States. No, Speaker 4 (5:00) they weren't. We'll get into them a little bit more in a minute. Right now... We're here for the ghost of the Green Lady. Right. This cemetery Speaker 5 (5:07) isn't very large. It's maybe a quarter of an acre in size.
