Speaker 1 (0:01) Hello. How are you? It's Evie here. Life with Nat will start in just a moment. But before we get into this episode, I want to tell you about my podcast that I think your kids are going to love. I help them deal with big feelings, whether that's calming down for bedtime, finding confidence for school, or helping them feel safe and ready for whatever comes next. Evie Asks is a podcast full of calming stories. kind affirmations and simple ways to help children make sense of their emotions. Search for Evie Ass to listen along or on YouTube to watch. Speaker 7 (0:40) This week on Help, I sexted my boss. Speaker 1 (0:43) I did have a briefcase at the end of prep school. You were literally well from the in-between. I have a message from someone who would beg to differ. They're telling us what you're really like at school. Hello, Jordan. Hello, William. James, William's brother here. Speaker 7 (0:58) Dressed in my school uniform leaving the house today with my parents in the house was weird. It was a bit of a brain thing for them. Hang on, hang on a second. You didn't Speaker 1 (1:05) get Speaker 7 (1:05) on the tube like that, did you? Listen and watch wherever you get your podcasts. Speaker 1 (1:10) More Speaker 4 (1:27) energy. More energy. More footwork. Is it? More rhythm. More rhythm. Oh, is it? Energy. I thought it was more passion. More passion. More footwork. More energy. Speaker 6 (1:39) I thought it was Speaker 3 (1:40) passion. Oh, I don't fucking know. Speaker 5 (1:42) I'm making it up. How Speaker 4 (1:43) are we all? Very well. Happy Monday. Happy Monday, everybody. Rise and shine. I hope you had a lovely weekend. Speaker 3 (1:52) You all right, my love? No, I'm tired. I feel wiped. No, I'm all right. I'm just, yeah, it's been a... Speaker 5 (1:59) It's been a lot. Speaker 6 (2:01) What has? Life. Oh, life has been a life thing? Life has been. Kids Speaker 5 (2:07) have been kidding. Kidding. Fucking annoying. No, I don't know. I think just maybe first full week back at school. I know this is going to now be the second week, but... That's Speaker 3 (2:20) all Speaker 5 (2:20) right, don't worry. First full week back at school, and I get it. They're having, you know, it's now rules and... Just change. Complete change, exhaustion. So, yeah, it's been a crazy weekend of emotions. I mean, Speaker 6 (2:33) I always have to say, you want it that way round. They're meant to come home and be arseholes because they're good at school. Joni was terrible last week. Was she? Terrible. Really bad. Really bad. Isn't it what it does? Just where they're all day, they're not used to it again. Of course, yeah. Back Speaker 5 (2:51) into that routine. And then even poor Alfie, like yesterday, he had like a sport, he went to school in his peer kit, you know, and they had one of them days that he was at another school doing like sports development, I think, something like that. Then he had swimming. Then he had computer club after school. And then he had football. Oh, no wonder Speaker 3 (3:08) the kid's exhausted. He's done more than I have. He walked in Speaker 5 (3:12) and he just didn't know what to do with himself. But he was good this morning because he just got into bed and this morning I got him up. He had a shower, washed his hair. It's all right. But yeah, it's a lot for them. Speaker 6 (3:25) Yeah. And Speaker 5 (3:26) a lot for me. Speaker 6 (3:27) I'll tell you what. Yeah, that's a lot to do in a day. I couldn't do it. I wouldn't be able to do it. Genuinely. Forget the children. It's too much for me. Speaker 5 (3:37) My brain don't cope. Yeah, it's the, Speaker 4 (3:40) how much is too much, how much is not enough for them to do. Yeah, it's hard to get a balance. They're young, they've got to get on with it. And Speaker 6 (3:48) it's Speaker 4 (3:48) lovely for Speaker 6 (3:49) them, what's lovely is you're allowing them to do lots of different little things and then they'll find things they really enjoy and you're letting them have a taster, which is really, they're very lucky to be able to do that, you know. Speaker 5 (4:01) Whilst I remember that, Speaker 6 (4:02) I have to Speaker 5 (4:02) tell you. Yeah. So the weekend before. It was a lot nicer because I went away with the girls to round off our 40th. We went to Gusborne Vineyard. We have to go. You would love it. It looked beautiful. It's incredible. So they specialise in sparkling wine. Oh, nice. But they do everything there. Grow the grapes, press the grapes, bottle it. It's all done there, the whole thing. A Speaker 3 (4:31) vineyard? Yeah, but some Speaker 5 (4:32) don't. Some just grow. Some don't necessarily do the whole process there. I see what you're saying. Some grow and send off, you know. Some squeeze, press, squeeze? Press and send off. Squeeze. Trying Speaker 6 (4:44) to think if the one we like in Cornwall does it all on site. I Speaker 4 (4:47) don't know. The Speaker 6 (4:48) one me and Speaker 4 (4:48) Jack Speaker 2 (4:48) went to did it Speaker 4 (4:49) all on Speaker 5 (4:49) site. It Speaker 2 (4:50) was Speaker 5 (4:50) so good. We had a free course. It was just beautiful. I mean, the woman was so knowledgeable. Yeah, it's nice. Learned Speaker 6 (4:55) loads. Speaker 5 (4:56) Drunk some amazing Speaker 6 (4:57) wine. Were they talking about, did you talk about the year they've just had and they're going to have a super year next, you know, the grapes they've grown? Yeah, Speaker 5 (5:04) well, yeah, but again, it all just depends. It doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be. It just means they were saying they might actually make some red wine this year. It's just very interesting. It is Speaker 2 (5:14) interesting. Speaker 5 (5:15) Yeah, we should definitely do it. We could do a little recording. Yeah, lovely. But what made me laugh is we got a cab there and we were chatting to the cab driver. He was very chatty. talking about where we're from. We said, where are you from? He said, oh, you won't know it. I said, well, try us. He said, Swanley. I said, I know someone from Swanley. Speaker 4 (5:33) Not one person. Do you know Claire? She goes around the park. He said, who is it? I said, Speaker 3 (5:39) well, her name's Claire. With an I. Speaker 3 (5:45) Is it? Yeah. Are Speaker 4 (5:47) you sure? No. With an E? No, I've said it. At the end. I think it's C-L-A Speaker 5 (5:52) -R Speaker 4 (5:52) -E. Speaker 5 (5:53) That's what I think. Oh, maybe not. She's had a shit. Anyway, so I was like, Claire. He was like, Claire who? Claire from Swanley. But I had no reception. I was trying to find my messages to find out if she told me anywhere. Oh, I can't. Anyway, but I had no reception. I couldn't get all my messages. I was trying to, I was going to message her. You still think Speaker 2 (6:14) that he would know her? There's Speaker 4 (6:16) quite Speaker 2 (6:16) a lot of people in Swanley. Yeah. But why do we do that? Speaker 5 (6:20) I don't know. But Speaker 2 (6:20) that is... Speaker 5 (6:21) He was like, I'm curious now. How do you know her? It is with an I. Oh, is it? Bloody hell. Speaker 2 (6:25) I mean, this is not the same, but obviously we've just been away and having... So I've got a friend whose husband is from Mauritius. So everyone, I was like, yes, my best friend, her husband, she's from Mauritius and I was given the surname, but I was told that his surname is quite a well-known surname. And they were like, oh, yeah, we know the fact that. Not the family, but that family Speaker 4 (6:50) name. Speaker 2 (6:51) So I'd be like, yes, but Speaker 4 (6:52) why do we do that? That's exciting, isn't it? Yeah. But Speaker 5 (6:55) then he was like, but how do you know her then? How do you know someone from Swanley? And I was like, I said, it's really boring, mate. And he was like, no. And I said, well, I do a pod. And he was like, he was so confused. He was like, this is the weirdest thing. So, yeah, that really made me laugh. Very good. Wish you'll Speaker 6 (7:09) see her soon, the old brunchy. Lovely. Very, very good. Speaker 2 (7:13) You're looking very well, aren't you? I'm not really. My face isn't looking great today. I apologise. Get the arms out. The arms and the legs are looking rather brown. Do you have a lovely time? So good. I will have to give a little recommendation. Go on. So I bought Fox Tan. It's Speaker 3 (7:28) a Speaker 2 (7:28) tan enhancer. My goodness. Unreal. Did you copy me? No. Oh, I just saw it online. Kate recommended it to me quite a long time ago and I went with a different one, but it was brilliant. It smells lovely. And Speaker 5 (7:40) shimmer, like the shimmer. Yeah, really Speaker 2 (7:42) nice. I got it Speaker 5 (7:43) for Santorini. However, I must say my only complaint was my lotion because it's quite a, it's not a thick lotion, very watery. Speaker 4 (7:51) The Speaker 5 (7:52) fucking nozzle broke. So then I had to pour it because it's so watery. It was like milk. No, mine was a nightmare. Speaker 2 (7:59) Mine did Speaker 5 (7:59) break. Mine was all right. Yeah, Speaker 2 (8:00) mine did. Yeah, no, we had a really lovely holiday. Mauritius is a beautiful place. It really is. The people, just amazing. We did some lovely things. Felt like a proper holiday, like a very special. We did some nice excursions. We fed monkeys. James just was, yeah, in his element. It was lovely. And nice to spend that time together. Yeah, it's quite a long time. Speaker 3 (8:26) It's a long time to be away. Yeah. Yeah, it was. Speaker 4 (8:29) It felt like a long time. Speaker 3 (8:31) It's Speaker 4 (8:31) so long. I felt like you'd gone travelling or something. It was the weirdest thing. It's weird, isn't it? And it felt like we were, it felt like home. Felt like we were there forever. Yeah. Sunny, isn't it? And then you just come home. But isn't it nice that you can Speaker 5 (8:42) settle Speaker 2 (8:43) somewhere and really get into it? And then you know where you're going, you know where everything is. I Speaker 5 (8:47) love Speaker 2 (8:47) that feeling. I Speaker 5 (8:48) was Speaker 2 (8:48) sad to say goodbye to the pool staff. Speaker 5 (8:50) Yeah. One Speaker 2 (8:51) of the pool staff bought James Speaker 4 (8:52) some cars. I Speaker 2 (8:53) was just so Speaker 4 (8:54) beautiful. And because you're there for a long time, you don't mind going out and doing the excursions. Exactly. And Jack played golf Speaker 2 (9:00) a bit and we had some treatment. Yeah, you didn't feel, and we had some lie-ins, we had early nights. You've got to Speaker 5 (9:07) just fit it all in. And you've got Speaker 2 (9:08) to be up at the crack of dawn to be out. And Speaker 5 (9:10) the Speaker 2 (9:10) days Speaker 5 (9:10) weren't very long, were they, in the sense Speaker 2 (9:12) that it gets dark quite early? Yeah, Speaker 5 (9:13) it Speaker 2 (9:13) gets dark, it was about six o'clock. But to be honest, with James, we were back to the room by four. Nice in a way, yeah. And then we would go for dinner early. He was on good form. And then we'd be back at the room for nine. put him to bed and then we'd still have an hour and then be in bed ourselves. So we had good sleep. Really nice. Yeah, it was really wholesome. Oh, lovely. Had some knobheads along the way. Speaker 4 (9:37) Did Speaker 2 (9:38) you? Come on. Sorry, I feel like I always have dramas. Well, have you heard? I haven't heard these. Honestly. Well, the first one isn't a drama. I think I was voice noting you at the time and they came and sat down and that's why I then told you. There was a couple there. And it just blows my mind. Like, you haven't got, I'm not asking to be your friend, but when you see someone every day for, you know, we're now probably a week, and you don't even look up. Don't say good Speaker 5 (10:06) morning. Just Speaker 2 (10:07) like, or acknowledge James. Most people would say. Were they on their Speaker 5 (10:11) own, Speaker 2 (10:11) just a couple? Speaker 5 (10:12) Yeah, just a Speaker 2 (10:12) couple. Two guys, like, very pristine, well-dressed, like, looked. Like nice people. So you'd expect that you've sat next to us on a sun lounger all day. Bit of interaction. You just might even go, oh, he's cute. Like just something. Everyone commented on James. Everyone would say morning to him, staff, just people. And they just did not look up. Didn't even look. Sounds Speaker 6 (10:35) like Speaker 5 (10:35) me, to be fair, in Santorini. Speaker 6 (10:36) Yeah, but also that's different when you're... Did you have any interaction with anybody else? Speaker 6 (10:44) Tried Speaker 5 (10:44) not to, but yeah, I did. But the point is, is Speaker 2 (10:47) when you're staying on a resort like this, you sort of see the same, you know, Speaker 5 (10:50) you Speaker 2 (10:50) see people. Yeah, Speaker 5 (10:51) I did. Speaker 2 (10:51) I saw a Speaker 5 (10:51) couple and their kid every morning. What, and you didn't just Speaker 2 (10:54) go, oh, hi? No, Speaker 5 (10:55) I did. Of course I did. They'd start talking to me, didn't they? I tracked them. But the point, I Speaker 2 (10:59) understand if you don't, I'm not, I'm not going out. I just find it mad that you could sit and see someone every day and you don't even sort of just nod. Even just once, it's weird to me. And then you've got other couples every morning. Or you see someone in the morning that you saw at dinner the night before. Did Speaker 3 (11:18) you try and Speaker 2 (11:18) speak to them? No, no, no, not at all. No, I had no interest. I just find it odd. I find it odd, though, Speaker 6 (11:24) in any circumstance. Even if I'm on a tube, I find it weird that you're opposite someone. And you don't smile. No, absolutely not. It's interaction with human Speaker 2 (11:35) beings. The thing for me, and I kind of understand in certain circumstances, but I think in this case when you are basically seeing this person multiple times throughout the day. And you're on holiday. You're chill. You're not really, I don't know, they would be in the pool at the same time as Jack and Jane. It was just weird. Weird. And when there's a child, you kind of think, even if you just start, you'd see. No, I mean, Speaker 5 (12:01) I know I say things and I try and be like a miserable cow. But you do. But when we were in Santorini, number one, got to the hotel and I was like, why the fuck are there children here? Perfect. Because I booked this because it's adults only for the hotel to then say, oh, yeah, we've just made it kid friendly. Oh, yeah. Speaker 4 (12:18) Perfect. Speaker 5 (12:19) Great. Oh. But there wasn't many kids there. It's not the sort of place you would, couple of little children. And what, Speaker 4 (12:26) you see them that run past and you're like, aw. No, Speaker 5 (12:29) so there was a couple with a little, little baby and they got in the pool. And I said, do you want me to take some photos of you? So I did do that. Yeah, Speaker 2 (12:37) even for us, there was a couple on this island that we went over to as part of the resort and they were taking loads of photos of each other. So like Jack was playing, I just went, do you want me to take some of you? And she was like, oh my God, would you? We've just got engaged. And I thought, I'm so happy that I got some lovely pictures of them. Her ring was amazing. They were so cute from New York. They were excellent. Anyway, then we get to the airport. They're there on our flight now. Nothing. Finished. I think they were fuming, James running around. So I was like, go on, James, run over there near them. These guys that were on our flight. Oh, the guys. Sorry, I thought you were going to tell your couple. No, no, no, sorry. Speaker 4 (13:13) I want that on your flight. Yeah, yeah. Speaker 2 (13:15) The next couple were, this blows my mind. So sort of middle-aged, on the flight. Speaker 5 (13:22) Hold on, where are we here? We're sorry, we're leaving. Coming home. Speaker 2 (13:25) No, we're going from London to Mauritius. So this, whatever, they're doing their thing. We're on the plane. Speaker 2 (13:33) We all fall asleep. Lovely. There's a couple with two children. One's quite a small baby who was crying quite a lot. For me, I didn't hear. I think no one, you know, it is what it is. You're on a plane. These things can happen. I got woken up by this woman going, will you shut Speaker 4 (13:49) up? To the baby. And I said... Speaker 2 (13:53) What, random? Speaker 4 (13:53) To the baby? No, Speaker 2 (13:55) she didn't. I said, oh, no, is that the mum? I thought she's having a really hard... You know, like you really should... He went, no, it was her. I said, no. I was raging. No, she didn't. Anyway, I fell back Speaker 4 (14:05) to sleep. What Speaker 2 (14:05) did they do? They were at the end of... They sort of weren't even that close. I thought, you are a disgrace. Get to the hotel. They're in our hotel. So I thought, okay, another one who you see every day, doesn't even look, no nothing, no, just awful. But you smiled at that one, didn't you, as well? Well, then we get on the plane coming home. Speaker 5 (14:25) They're there. Speaker 2 (14:25) They're sat behind us. Speaker 2 (14:28) So I smiled, nice big smile, and she just point blank, just didn't do a thing. So I thought, anyway, there was a bit of a seat situation. Me and Jack thought, we'll be kind. We'll give the family four, our bit, and we'll swap. It makes no difference for us. They were very grateful. The air hostess said, they will love that. That's really kind of you. We were shuffling around. She was... Speaker 2 (14:52) fuming. I thought, fucking knock this woman out, mate. I'm going to, but I thought they're not going to let me fly, so I need to be calm. So then I see the air hostess who was beautiful, Suzanne, on a BA flight. She was really lovely. She was chatting. She said, they're just having a jiggle and they'll be sorting. She went, no, they won't. I was on the flight out here with them. The kids didn't sleep. The hot luck went in. Was it that Speaker 5 (15:13) same family? Speaker 2 (15:14) No, it wasn't. So she's just making out. She's seen kids and she's just, they Speaker 4 (15:17) were on Speaker 5 (15:17) the Speaker 4 (15:17) flight. Speaker 5 (15:17) Because they're Speaker 4 (15:17) probably thinking, we've come away. Fly in what we're flying. Speaker 5 (15:22) Get a private jet and go and stay on a fucking island on your own. Or also... I know, but I'm just saying, they're probably thinking we're not going in summer holidays. Yeah, but you're Speaker 2 (15:31) going to a place like that that is a very family... I know, Speaker 5 (15:34) I know. I'm not justifying, I'm just thinking what they're thinking. We're flying out of school holiday times to avoid children. We've ended up with a load of children next to us. No, but also people have children under the age of five Speaker 2 (15:48) and also get a private jet then. You cannot pet women. More so, I would probably say, because I do think as a mother, you take the brunt of the anxiety that you have getting onto a plane. You don't need someone like that. Anyway, then I said to this after, I said, I'm just going to tell you, if she says one more thing, I will have to say something to her. I said, and I told her what had happened on Speaker 1 (16:09) the Speaker 2 (16:09) way out. I said, she's been on our plane, our hotel for two weeks, not even looked up. I said, she's awful. She went to me, darling, don't you worry. Sit down. I'll get you a drink. I Speaker 1 (16:19) was Speaker 2 (16:19) like, perfect. And basically the husband just spent the whole time staring at me. So I was just sort of saying, are you okay? Do you fancy me? Because you keep looking at me whilst James is like asleep. Bless him. But just those people, you just don't need it. It's funny, Speaker 3 (16:34) isn't it? Speaker 2 (16:34) I just
