Speaker 1 (0:00) The McElroy brothers are not experts, and their advice should never be followed. Travis insists he's a sexpert, but if there's a degree on his wall, I haven't seen it. Also, this show isn't for kids, which I mention only so the babies out there will know how cool they are for listening. What's up, you cool baby? Speaker 3 (0:19) One, two, three, four! It's the South! It feels like... Speaker 8 (1:10) Hello everybody and welcome to My Brother, My Brother and Me. It's an advice show from the modern era. I'm your oldest brother, Justin McElroy. What's up, TravNation? It's me, your middle-est brother, Travis Big Dog, Wolf Wolf Vroom Vroom, Speaker 7 (1:22) award-winning the heater, McElroy. Speaker 6 (1:24) What's up, TravNation? It's me, your sweet baby brother, 30 Under 30 media luminary, Griffin McElroy. Speaker 6 (1:34) Guys, I thought we were past this. I thought for sure we were never going to return to this particular well. But get out the binoculars. Get out the air rifles. I think my pure imagination is playing tricks on me, Griff. No, it's not Tim Chalamet. He's busy fucking up. No, but we are on a Wonka watch. Guys, this is a level five Wonka watch. I'm talking red alert, all hands on deck. Speaker 8 (2:04) What's the situation we find ourselves in Wonka-wise, guys? What's happening in the world of Wonka-wise? Wonka-wise! I know this because I've had this show bookmarked with a red alert. Speaker 8 (2:18) emergency updater on this Netflix series the moment it's live. Yeah. Speaker 6 (2:23) So, I mean, we're talking about Wonka the Golden Ticket. Speaker 7 (2:26) Yeah, and I want to send a big thank you here because I had not heard about this because Justin was apparently gatekeeping it, but Nell sent this, and this is how I learned about it and wanted to talk about it, sent it to our email. Good shout. Good shout, Nell. Good shout, Nell. Good looking out. Netflix, reality show, Wonka. Now here's the thing. The prize, and this is maybe a little off message for the Wonka movies, but it's a lifetime supply of money. Yeah. Yeah, a lifetime supply of Speaker 8 (3:04) money. That would be cool. Sounds good, no? It'd be cool. Yeah, man. Speaker 6 (3:12) $100 a day? How much money? Is it a stipend? Are they going to keep a budget for me and check in periodically to be like, hey, Griffin, you've used up this month's supply of money? Because I already have people who do that to me, for me. Are there Speaker 7 (3:26) cost of living increases over every five years? Is Mr. Wonka going to budget Speaker 6 (3:33) inflation Speaker 8 (3:34) into the accounting? I don't know. Is it as whimsical as a lifetime supply of chocolate? By the way, in this series, Wonka is not depicted, sadly. You do hear, I would say, Gene Milder, kind of a simulacrum of Gene. Gene Speaker 6 (3:55) A. Ilder is who it is. It's his voice been fed in machines. Are you sure? Speaker 8 (4:01) 100 % sure, yeah, Speaker 6 (4:02) because his estate was like... Fucking go for it, dudes. By the way, bros, let's get an affidavit signed between the three of us now to never ever give permission to anyone to resurrect us. Speaker 8 (4:13) This is my living will. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This episode. No matter what documents you may find, put it up in court. Judge, it's me from the past. Don't. No AI, okay? Please, please, please. You can't. Speaker 6 (4:26) But yeah, he's putting them through the rigors of factory ownership. And, you know, they're doing all the challenges from the movie. Get big and get big and swollen with juice. Lick Speaker 7 (4:36) the walls. Lick the walls, you dirty Speaker 6 (4:38) fucking adult. Oh, by the way, it's all adults. We should say that so that I can say things like lick the walls, you dirty dogs. And it's OK because everybody's in their 30s to it appears 70s, which makes sense. It's that's what the movie. It's been a Speaker 7 (4:51) while. Since I watched the Gene Wilder Wonka movie, by which I mean like last week, I watch it constantly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. To keep my morals in line. But I don't remember in that movie when they lick the walls, them coming away with messy, dirty faces. So they did some stuff to Speaker 6 (5:10) the Wonka walls on this one where they lick the walls and then it turns their faces nasty and gooey and blue. And that would be another, I guess, upgrade to the original film as if everybody just had yucky, messy faces. for the majority of the motion picture. Just Speaker 7 (5:23) got nastier, nastier, nastier. And Speaker 6 (5:26) this Speaker 7 (5:26) might be clever trailer editing, but there is a moment in the trailer where it's like, how am I going to play the rest of the game with them after this? And I imagine that that particular soundbite was not hard to find from what I've seen of the challenges presented. Speaker 8 (5:42) They're licking the nasty walls Speaker 7 (5:43) like a dog. How can Speaker 8 (5:44) I lick them in Speaker 6 (5:45) the eyes in the morning? Speaker 8 (5:46) The comments on the trailer are... Pretty soundly negative, I would say. Some rough stuff here. One comment is, I'm so glad Roald Dahl doesn't have to see this. And that wasn't my first response. Yeah, Roald Dahl was Speaker 6 (6:04) not the victim. Our beloved anti Speaker 8 (6:06) -Semitic Roald Dahl can spin in it for all I care. Also, from what I Speaker 7 (6:10) understand, I've done some research on the old Wonka movie. I would say made in spite of him. Yeah, Roald Dahl's never loved anything Speaker 6 (6:18) anyone's ever made of his shit. They tagged him in to write the Speaker 7 (6:22) script. He basically handed them the book that he had typed out like a script and they said, no thank you, Roald. Can you make changes? And he Speaker 6 (6:29) said, fuck no. I watch a lot of reality TV. Even Speaker 8 (6:34) a lot Speaker 6 (6:34) of Netflix's not super duper real reality, puerile offerings. I think... We have long since passed the point, but let this serve as a stark kind of like checkpoint in the conversation where we can refer to this as a social experiment. Let's Speaker 8 (6:55) let's I want to know Netflix scientists, Speaker 6 (6:59) sociologists. What are we testing here? What possible facets of the human condition are we measuring with Wonka? The golden ticket reality competition show. Well, Speaker 8 (7:12) one episode is just all burps. It's who can burp. hardest on command the most because they're flying up in this. They've got a thing. It's a harness. And they're being lifted up towards death. And they have to burp to go down. Another comment here says the snozzberries taste like norovirus. That's Speaker 6 (7:30) very good. That's an excellent. Good work, everybody. One Speaker 8 (7:34) person's complaining here that it's all adults because that was the whole point of the entire thing is that it An adult couldn't win. What's a child going to Speaker 6 (7:42) do with a lifetime supply of money? Also, that's way more money. If you taste Speaker 8 (7:46) forever, they're crossing their fingers for the old guy. There's old ass people Speaker 6 (7:51) on this show. You know Netflix is pulling like, Jerry, God damn it. You got to pull it together. Hydrate, Jerry. Fuck. You Speaker 7 (7:57) got this, Speaker 6 (7:57) man. Speaker 7 (7:58) You got this. You want to go to Sandals, don't you? The show isn't out yet, so I don't know. They might have done this, but if I was the producer on this, I would have included one really cherubic, sweet 14-year-old boy who does not participate in the challenges, but rather talks about the goodness of the human soul while everyone else is doing it. You see how long it takes for the other contestants to be like, fuck, he's going to win, isn't Speaker 8 (8:26) he? Speaker 7 (8:26) No matter what I do. And how are they going to zap one of them? That would have been Speaker 8 (8:31) good to have one really sweet contestant that everybody's like, oh, yeah. Fuck. Okay. Speaker 6 (8:36) Yeah, Tim, isn't it? They don't even obliterate them at an atomic level and teleport them across the room in a small size. It Speaker 8 (8:43) hadn't premiered yet. They could kill them. That's what happened in Squid Games. Speaker 6 (8:47) They're Speaker 7 (8:47) absolutely not going to fucking kill them. I know one thing. They Speaker 8 (8:50) might Speaker 7 (8:50) inflate them and squish them. I mean, they don't kill them in the book, do you think? The Speaker 8 (8:56) Oompa Loompas are still in effect. They are the, I guess, hosts. They're the ones who are leading people around the factory here. There Speaker 7 (9:07) is one prime moment where the actor playing an Oompa Loompa in the trailer gives a look to the camera that... Could be taken as like playful, but I take it as like, yeah, I know. I know, man. Yeah, I know. Fuck, man. And he communicates. Your Speaker 8 (9:22) calendar's not broken. It is 2026. Yeah, I Speaker 6 (9:25) know. He communicates a lot with that look because what I got from it was like, hey, at least it's not Hugh Grant on a green screen. Yeah. Okay, Speaker 8 (9:33) yeah. I guess that's, I guess, yeah, Speaker 6 (9:34) in some ways, I guess it's better than Hugh Grant on a green screen. Speaker 8 (9:37) In many ways. Okay, guys. Watch the trailer again. And then imagine that Netflix is just trying to cover all of its fetish bases at once. Speaker 7 (9:48) Because Speaker 8 (9:49) goddamn, dude, every shot in this is like licking a wall, biting something huge. Oh, he's licking something else. Oh, he's popping a Speaker 7 (9:57) big balloon. The balloon's so big. How will I ever handle Speaker 8 (10:00) it? Speaker 7 (10:00) Buddy, there's some bondage elements in there as well. There are. This is Speaker 8 (10:05) awesome. Every shot in it is a different. Welcome to Speaker 7 (10:09) Netflix's Speaker 8 (10:10) Willy Wenka Golden Ticket for exploring your darkest sexual imagination. Speaker 6 (10:16) We got all those too-hot-to-handle degenerates in here. You're going to watch them get super sloppy double there. Speaker 7 (10:23) The best part is watching all the contestants, let's say, feign childlike wonder at what they're seeing. Well, it's all real! Speaker 6 (10:33) Yeah, I mean, they do that. I imagine the tenor of the show changes once they find out they get infinite money as the prize. I have to. Now, that's a good social experiment is what will someone do for infinite money? Because that seems to be like what we're offering here. I feel like we're going to lose sight of the whimsical candy nature of the show very quickly. And people are going to get very, very desperate battle royale style squid game style very, very quickly. Speaker 7 (10:57) They get excited about eating candy under hot studio lighting. Very, like, they're eagerly gumming it down. Yeah. Where it's like, okay, but it's not a fantastical magical world. This is still our world. And the crew set this up perhaps weeks in advance. Hey, I won't let you Speaker 6 (11:17) shit talk the production of this show. It looks fucking fantastic. Do you think they Speaker 8 (11:21) used the factory Mr. Beast built? Speaker 7 (11:24) Just like, let's just reuse Mr. Beast's Wonka Factory. Speaker 8 (11:27) Yeah. He did that. If you didn't know. Speaker 7 (11:30) Of course he did. Hey, this is an advice Speaker 8 (11:32) show. My advice is this actually went live today, guys. I know the email said the 30th, but it is. Maybe that's in different territories, but it is live today. So we'll have to check it out. Oh, absolutely. Yeah. You know us and our follow through. Speaker 7 (11:46) Well, my follow through is to wait two years and then watch a 25 minute recap. video on YouTube explaining everything that happened. Just as good. Speaker 6 (11:55) That's probably for the best, Travis. Netflix reality shows throw confessionals at you with concussive force and frequency. It's really, Speaker 8 (12:02) really tough. It's a rough ride. I am a new middle school teacher and I've been teaching preschool for the last decade. I'm loving the Switch and genuinely really enjoy being around these kids. I prefer the Speaker 7 (12:15) Steam Deck, but... Speaker 8 (12:16) Yikes. However, I experienced my first fight today. And upon reflection and being made fun of by eighth graders, it turns out I react to fights like Winnie the Pooh with a whole lot of, oh, Speaker 7 (12:29) dear, and Speaker 8 (12:30) oh, gracious. What's a cool, hip way I can break up a fight between 12-year-olds without looking like a moron or stepping in the middle? I don't get paid enough to be beaten up by 12-year-olds. That's from an 87-year-old in a 34-year-old's body in North Georgia. Would you like to join us for Willy Wonka's The Goal? Speaker 8 (12:49) If you can promise your body, we'll give out. Speaker 6 (12:52) No, you need to be better at breaking up fights in order to go into Willy Wonka's The Golden Ticket. Guys, it's going to devolve into just melee combat. Speaker 8 (13:01) Yeah, well, one of the challenges is you have to recapture the Oompa Loompas who have been trying to flee ever since Willy Wonka died and was replaced by an AI. He just talks through speakers, by the way, in case you're curious how they do this. Just as magical Speaker 7 (13:14) and charming Speaker 8 (13:15) as that. Just Speaker 6 (13:16) why Gene would have wanted. I think for this, it's a tricky situation. We're talking about kids and we're talking about a very, very high stakes, high intensity situation. This is not going to be helpful. But for me, I think an ounce of prevention. You got to be you got to stop fights before they start. You got to always have your finger on the pulse of where the beef is, who is beefing, and then do your best to untangle those knots before they before they break. Maybe you have a little. Maybe every day you ride on the chalkboard, no fights. Speaker 7 (13:49) Oh, see, I Speaker 6 (13:50) was Speaker 7 (13:50) gonna go with a network of little sparrows bringing you information, but. That could Speaker 6 (13:54) be cool too, that could be cool too. If you can act on it, if you can find ways to act on it, that's great, but. Speaker 7 (14:00) I don't think Winnie the Pooh is a bad tactic to take because I remember the cartoon All-Stars Against Drugs. Winnie the Pooh was there. He was MVP. Like, oh, bother, don't smoke weed. That's not bad, Trav. Have a smack of honey, right? And I was convinced. You know what I mean? Yeah, Speaker 6 (14:20) I only did like a bunch of drugs way later. Yeah. So Winnie at least got me through high school before I fell apart. Speaker 8 (14:28) This is yet another problem that could have been fixed by the big sticky mess, a gun that shoots glue foam. Awesome. I don't Speaker 6 (14:36) encourage the use of... If Speaker 8 (14:40) you had the big sticky mess from Paul Blart Ball Cop 2, a gun that shoots glue foam, then these two kids start getting spicy. And this is why, Speaker 6 (14:50) and again, it makes it really tough to have these conversations in public with Justin because he'll just offer things out of nowhere like, I think that teachers should have guns in school and everyone else is like, sorry. Speaker 7 (15:02) And then Speaker 8 (15:03) he's like, me and Travis have to hop in and be like, he means the big sticky mess from Paul Blart Mall Cop 2. The big sticky mess, a gun that shoots glue foam. I would also think the marble gun from Paul Blart Mall Cop Speaker 6 (15:14) 2 would also. Falling Speaker 8 (15:17) is not. Speaker 6 (15:17) You don't want them to fall. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, you could Speaker 7 (15:20) just present because... In the 50s, kids could fall. Yeah. In the 50s, kids could take a fall. Back when you
