Speaker 3 (0:00) 33-30. Chiefs get it done in overtime. Man, that felt good last night. Woo! Woo! Boy, had to sweat that one out at the very end. I could tell Kansas City was fired up for this game when I went to our friends over at Hy-Vee at about, oh, probably 3 o'clock. Took the younger two girls, decided we're going to Hy-Vee. We're making chicken wings tonight. Dad's on duty. And I get there. And they're like, oh, dude, we just sold out of all the chicken wings. I'm like, you're out of them? There's not one chicken wing in this whole place. Well, we got the frozen ones. I guess I'll make do. But, man, there were a lot of parties going on around town last night for week two against the Colts, John. I was surprised. Speaker 4 (0:46) Absolutely. You've got Speaker 3 (0:47) to get to the store early, brother, on the home game. You know, shame on me, man. Shame on me walking in there at 3 o'clock for a Sunday night football game thinking I'm buying fresh chicken wings at Hy-Vee. That's a bad job. That's amateur hour on my end. Thankfully, thankfully, it was not amateur hour at Arrowhead Stadium last night. And, you know, one thing I love, and I saw this circulating on social media early this morning, is when people have, especially super powerful, super famous, super talented people, have the power to have enough self-awareness to know what's being said about them and around them. A lot of people don't have it. They don't have it in politics. They don't have it in Hollywood. They don't have it in the music industry. They are so caught up in their own little bubble. They're not able to see what people are saying about them around them. That is not Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes last night said what I thought was one of his most important quotes of his career after this game. Chiefs win 33-30 over the Colts. Of course, there's that play in overtime where, you know, it looks like... potentially the game is over, right? There's this big play down the field. Daniel Jones hits his wide receiver, and then he gets up, he starts running, and he fumbles the ball, and the Chiefs recover it. And you're thinking, game's over. This is great. Let's go. Fantastic. And what happened? The play was reviewed. The play was overturned because, well, the Colts player was down. He was down by contact. and the Colts got to retain the ball. The game was not over at that point. Now, it was okay because Butker Speaker 2 (2:32) ends up kicking the game-winning field goal. But after the game, Patrick Mahomes admitted that he's glad that that call in particular did not stand. He's glad that the call got overturned because, one, it was the right call to let the Colts have the ball, and, number two, he knows and we all know that the haters And the losers would have gone nuts about the refs rigging the Speaker 3 (2:59) game for the Chiefs. Speaker 1 (3:01) Punching the touchdown. We have the big play in overtime where we think we stripped the ball. And they end up being barely touched. I was actually kind of glad because I didn't want to see Twitter's reaction if they would have called it a fumble. So we got to prove it the right way, get the stop there, and then go back out there and get a field goal. So there was different times every part of the team had to put their impact on the game. That's what you want, a full team game and a full team win. Speaker 3 (3:28) That's so perfect from Patrick. I didn't want to see what Twitter's reaction would have been. Although, Patrick, it's been X for like three years now. Come on. It's not 2023 anymore. It's X. Let's go, baby. I would not have wanted to see Twitter's reaction had that call not been overturned. That's a guy who gets it, John. That's a perfect answer from Patrick in that spot, knowing full well he understands. that the haters still think that the refs just rigged the games for Kansas City. Now, here's the problem for the haters. If you've got this team looking like it's going to look this season. Now, listen, it's not perfect, but suddenly there's a running game. There's a deep ball. Doc Marshall was going nuts for Taequann Thornton last night, I'm sure. That's his favorite guy. And then on top of that, you've got a situation where the defense can step up. Now, now you've got something cooking here. And that's the exciting part of the whole thing. The Speaker 6 (4:26) running game opening up that deep pass, that's what I was hoping for right before the season started. I knew Kenneth Walker would be a difference maker on the ground, but also through the air. Speaker 3 (4:35) Absolutely. No doubt. 117 yards on the ground on 24 carries. Amazing stuff. And on top of that, Mark did hit his parlay last night. So Mark hit a couple of big parlays. I was afraid he was on the first flight to Vegas this morning. He was going to leave us. Speaker 6 (4:51) Not until October 4th when the Chiefs are playing Vegas. Okay, Speaker 3 (4:54) you're going to go then. You're bankrolling your Vegas trip to see the Chiefs with your big-time parlays. Is that what you're doing? Got to bet on him live in person there. No, I'm just kidding. Well, that's a job well done, man. That's a job. You gave us a winner on Friday. We do a buy, sell, hold segment every Friday morning at 845. Mark gives us a parlay, and it was what, like 10 to win a buck 50 or something like that on Friday morning? Yeah, yep, yep. Very nice. Well, congratulations there. Speaker 4 (5:21) John, you make it to the end of the game last night. I know it was late. Absolutely, brother. Now, here's me, the old fan. I'm cataloging their list of mistakes throughout the game, so I'm on the edge of my seat the whole time. I'm not necessarily excited. Well, who was yelling at the TV? You or your wife? Both of us. Speaker 3 (5:37) Oh, both. Okay. All right. Well done. Nice job. Speaker 4 (5:40) Got to be a fly on that wall. Great Speaker 3 (5:41) to Speaker 4 (5:41) pull that one out, though, like you say. If we were another format, we'd talk about how we're playing fast and loose with the definition of control on that one play. But to your point, the bigger picture, as Patrick said, exactly, exactly right. No doubt, man. No doubt. And then did you see Taylor after Travis Speaker 3 (5:57) Kelsey's touchdown? Speaker 4 (5:58) She gets Speaker 3 (6:00) up there and she starts pointing at her wedding ring and she goes, that's my husband. Speaker 3 (6:08) Yep. Quentin Lucas said, I wish my wife did that after I passed the budget in this town. I was like, that's pretty good. That was from the mayor of Kansas City. But here's the other part of that. When I watch that, that is a very conservative thing to do. Speaker 3 (6:27) It is. I'm sorry. In this world of like, oh, my gosh, you know, we're still fighting for women's rights, which is totally not true. When you look at the makeup of corporate America, you look at white collar jobs, you look at college graduation rates. I mean, a lot of it is trending more and more towards women every single year. And I say that as the father of three daughters. It just is. And actually, it's not healthy for society by and large. But I'll save that for another conversation. Bragging about the incredible work of your husband. Like, you know, with all due respect, that is not something that it seems like many liberal women would want to be doing. It's just not. They'd rather complain about their husband. They'd rather turn their husband into some kind of beta male. They'd rather beat up their husband, trash their husband. No, Taylor's on Speaker 2 (7:15) national TV saying that's my guy and pointing at her ring, meaning like he's got me. That's amazing right there. Traditional values. Yes, that's exactly what that is. It is traditional values from Taylor Swift when bragging about Travis Kelsey. And that right there is absolutely fantastic. I love everything about it. And it was fun to watch. It was fun. It was lighthearted. Speaker 3 (7:44) It was someone showing love for their significant other, which, you know, becomes a rarity, it seems like, in some ways these days. That's Speaker 2 (7:52) fantastic. There's nothing not to like about that. 913-408-7957 is our text line. That's our studio line here on a Monday morning on KCMO Talk Radio. We're excited. You're excited. Steven's excited in Kansas City. What's up, man? Speaker 7 (8:11) Oh, man, I don't know if you saw it last night, but NBC was killing it on the promos. Nikki Glacier is kind of getting a lot of attention this morning. I don't know if you got the audio clip of it, but they did a magnificent job. I mean, they know the ratings are going to be through the roof for this, but it just sort of encapsulated everything about the psychology of people rooting against. the Chiefs and then sort of just kind of shoved it all back in their faces. I don't know. Did you see it last night before the game? Speaker 3 (8:49) I was watching. I had it on, but I don't remember that specifically. Speaker 7 (8:53) Okay. It was at the very beginning of the show, of the Sunday night football lead-in. And just kind of, it was the message was that. They just don't want to see it because they keep winning, and then they'll go back to rooting against us again. They just want to see us fall. But I would definitely recommend people looking it up online and seeing the clip because we've been getting ratings like the third biggest Monday night rating of all time, I think, last week. So this one should be on par with one of the... One of the biggest ones ever in terms of Sunday night football. I Speaker 3 (9:39) think so, certainly for a week two game. Thank you, Stephen. Sounds like you're running on fumes like many of us are, but good to hear from you, brother. Appreciate it. On the text line, Pete, so you're saying that Taylor Swift is going to be wearing a MAGA hat at the next game. No, no, no, no, no. That is not what I'm saying at Speaker 2 (9:57) all. Also on the text line, Pete, Travis and Taylor just got married. We'll see how this all plays out in a few years. That's fine. We will see how it all plays out. But why can't I be optimistic about it? Why can't we just be positive about it? That's all I'm asking for. That's it. That's the extent of it, okay? Speaking of being optimistic, some of you are Speaker 3 (10:17) upset I'm not being as optimistic about this big race that we are following this year in the Kansas City area. I'll tell you what that is all coming up on KCMO. 6.20, welcome in on a Monday morning on KCMO Talk Radio. So this story here came in the Wall Street Journal over the weekend, and it really was the icing on the cake of something I've been warning about for a long time. And I'm not warning about it because I want it to be true. I'm warning about it because, well, first off, I believe, just like in sports, just like the Chiefs last night, you play to the final whistle, the old cliche. And you play Speaker 2 (10:57) like you're 10 points behind. And there was a big story in the Wall Street Journal over the weekend headlined, even in reliably red Kansas, Republican enthusiasm is fading. And this comes on the heels of an Emerson College poll that dropped on Friday morning that we shared with you that showed Pastor Adam Hamilton leading Dr. Roger Marshall 45 to 43. Now, that's obviously within the margin of error, but Speaker 3 (11:24) still it shows Adam Hamilton, the Democrat, with the lead. in what is the biggest U.S. Senate race we're watching in our area. Don't have any Senate races, obviously, on the Missouri side. Missouri's pretty quiet this year, all things considered. Now, they've got some big ballot issues, but when it comes to big elections, Missouri's not exactly cooking this year. Kansas is. Governor's race, U.S. Senate race, on down from there. And in that same poll, it shows Ty Masterson, the Republican, in the governor's race, leading Cindy Holscher 51 to 44. And then this story drops over the Speaker 2 (11:59) weekend about how Republican enthusiasm is fading in the state of Kansas. And the quote, the sub headline quote reads, quote, if we're having to spend resources in Kansas, that tells you what the national environment is like. And of course, Kansas has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since 1932. Speaker 3 (12:21) Now, we've heard the story before. OK, we've seen the script. We've heard national media folks say this is the year Kansas goes blue in the U.S. Senate. We heard it six years ago with Barbara Beaulieu. I'm not telling you it's going to happen. If you were to just right now gun to my head, ask me, is it going to happen? I would say, no, it's not. I think Doc Marshall wins reelection. That being the case, if there's someone that needs to run like they're 10 points behind, it's Roger Marshall. Because first off, if you're any kind of an athlete, that's the right thing to do. That's the smart thing to do. That's the humble thing to do. Speaker 2 (13:04) And secondarily, you do have a lot of headwinds right now. Okay, you do. There are a lot of headwinds. Speaker 3 (13:12) First off, all I see are Doc Marshall, or excuse me, all I see are Pastor Adam ads all over the place. I mean, I throw on any streaming service on my TV. Hey, there's Adam. Or it's like, there's a pack knocking Roger Marshall. There's this PAC ad that I keep seeing that's like Roger Marshall's for the Epstein class. And I'm like, whoa, that's getting serious. But they got money to burn, and they're burning it. And I'm not seeing a lot on the other side right now. And that may be why someone like John Kennedy, the senator from Louisiana, was in the state of Kansas the other night. He was here on Friday. He obviously was doing some fundraising here on behalf of Roger Marshall. And here's what John Kennedy had to say about Doc. When Speaker 4 (13:58) I count my blessings, I count Roger Marshall twice. OK, y'all don't know him like I know him. I work with the guy, Star Spangled Awesome. OK, he. I would never tell the good people of Kansas what to do. But if you don't re-elect Roger Marshall, you probably ought to change your meds, okay? Speaker 3 (14:21) You ought to change your meds, says John Kennedy. All right, that's what he says. He's a cuckoo bird. That's what John Kennedy had to say about Doc Marshall. He counts them twice. He star-spangled awesome. Doc's going to be wearing a shirt that says Star Spangled Awesome pretty soon. I can see it right now through the halls of Capitol Hill. But John Kennedy also knows that he's not in Kansas this past weekend because he feels or their GOP feels really good about the race. Speaker 3 (14:54) You've got diesel prices, obviously, well above $6. You've got a war that is increasingly unpopular going on here as well. And then, you know, you have some tariff concerns for certain folks in the ag Speaker 2 (15:07) and livestock industry, which obviously is a big part of the state here. It's still, to me, though, it's just unfathomable that we'd be sitting here in a state that the president won just 24 months ago. comfortably by double digits what Speaker 3 (15:22) 14 15 points and now talk about doc marshall actually losing a re-election bid when he has been obviously tied very tightly to this administration and this white house it was a topic of conversation over the weekend i was on with kansas city weekend review on pbs And we did the show. It airs Friday nights at 730 and then Sunday mornings at 11. So we talked about this and, you know, Dave Helling and some of the other panelists were like, I don't know if Trump really wants Marshall coming here. Or I should say, I don't know if Marshall wants Trump coming here. Because I shared on the show, like I shared with you last week, that Doc Marshall noted here on KCMO that. He was trying to get the president of the United States to Kansas. And Dave Helling was like, well, I don't know Speaker 2 (16:12) if that's a good idea. I get what he's saying. But at this point, if you're Doc Marshall. You kind of have to live and die by Trump. You don't really have a choice. I mean, if he backs off a Trump with 45 Speaker 3 (16:25) days to go, no one's going to buy that. He's been very close to the president Speaker 2 (16:30) of the United States. If he suddenly tries to reimagine himself with a month and a half left, people are going to sniff that thing out in Speaker 3 (16:37) a Speaker 2 (16:37) heartbeat. And by the way, they would be right to sniff
