Speaker 1 (0:00) This is our version of back to school. I know, literally. Back to school is not just for the kids, right? No, no, no. Like, I want to go to Staples too, which is Fashion Week. Hi, Lanois. Hi, Liv. Your account is one of my favorites. What people are wearing. This episode today is going to be an audible people-watching walk. I feel like you are the perfect person to be our eyes and ears on the ground of all the amazing fashion happening in New York right now. One. of the Speaker 2 (0:24) biggest trends I spotted, which is quite funny to call it a trend because it's so basic, is tying a sweater around the Speaker 1 (0:32) waist. Also, I really like that you said the sweater around the waist because I feel like I saw that all summer as well. Speaker 2 (0:37) I've seen so many women wearing like just a full on red outfit. I've seen some really cool 3D elements in like pants or like tops. It's not just fabric. It's like a pom-pom or Speaker 1 (0:50) like a fringe or like a 3D flower. I'm never like the biggest fan of trends, but do you know when I really love them? I love them when they're a styling trick. Speaking of styling hacks as trends. I think it's one of the most iconic moments I ever spotted on what people are wearing. Everywhere I went, the glasses are getting bigger and bigger. I'm not seeing any eyebrows. The streets are diva-ing out. I can see their personality and I can see who they are by what they put on their bodies. I was like, every single fashion rule we've ever been taught went out the window. Speaker 2 (1:23) Rules were meant to be broken. Speaker 1 (1:27) Welcome back to Let's Get Dressed. I feel like I've gotten to see so much of you this week. It's wonderful. Speaker 2 (2:00) That's the best part about Fashion Week. We just get to see each other all the time. It feels like a little our own back to school. I know, literally. Back Speaker 1 (2:07) to school is not just for the kids. No, no, Speaker 2 (2:08) no. Speaker 1 (2:09) Like I want to go to Staples too, which is Fashion Week. That Speaker 2 (2:12) was literally my favorite thing in the world. Speaker 1 (2:14) It was weirdly mine too. And I need somebody to do an analysis over what kind of people we are, like the people who... loved back to school shopping. No, I remember. I'm butterflies. Me too. Me, Speaker 2 (2:27) my sisters and I, like we go on and on about it. Like we just loved it. Like I loved getting the color Speaker 1 (2:33) dividers and the pen box. Speaker 2 (2:35) We went to the Rite Aid on Sunset. Yep. Speaker 1 (2:39) The Speaker 2 (2:39) Rite Aid on Sunset. Speaker 1 (2:40) And Speaker 2 (2:40) they had the whole. Speaker 1 (2:41) section of all the Speaker 2 (2:42) back to school stuff. The best. Speaker 1 (2:44) Yes. Well, this is our version of back to school. It's been such a fun week. I've loved seeing you. Me too. Speaker 2 (2:48) And I'm Speaker 1 (2:49) so excited to have you on today because I feel like you are the perfect person to be our eyes and ears on the ground of all the amazing fashion happening in New York right now. Your account is one of my favorites. Oh my God. Thank you so Speaker 2 (3:01) much. Speaker 1 (3:01) What people are wearing. Thank you. And I, one, feel like you were at every show, so I can't wait to hear. your thoughts on things. But again, too, you have a very trained eye to see what people are wearing in New York City. So I can't wait to hear all Speaker 2 (3:15) of Speaker 1 (3:15) what's trending and happening right now. I'm excited to share. I know. And in case you guys missed it, Linoya and I did a video on her account, what people are wearing. I know. So go check it out. We did like an on the ground in real time video of some amazing outfits that we saw in New York City. It was very fun to do that with you. So fun. Speaker 2 (3:31) We call it a people watching walk and we did it together. You were my first guest. So. I'm honored to have you as my first guest for People Watching Walk. So Speaker 1 (3:39) if you guys want a little bit of a visual, head over to both of our Instagrams to check it out. Yes, it's fun. It was really fun. So this episode today is going to be an audible People Watching Walk, I think, of everything that we just went through during New York Fashion Week. Yeah, okay. I want to hear just Speaker 2 (3:55) from Speaker 1 (3:55) your Speaker 2 (3:56) experience. How was your week? It was so busy to a point where I literally feel like I didn't have time. to breathe. I was so grateful to work with so many of the brands that I love this Fashion Week. And I did a lot of coverage for a lot of the shows that were happening and also like just content for my own fun, which is literally to like walk the streets, which is what I like to do. So yeah, it's been a crazy week. I can't believe like it's behind me. I literally have like in my notes app, I have like a little. like, you know, a little tick, tick, tick, tick, tick next to like every little Speaker 1 (4:32) thing Speaker 2 (4:32) because Speaker 1 (4:33) that just helps me keep everything Speaker 2 (4:34) organized. Speaker 1 (4:35) Yep. Yeah. Okay. So let's talk about the fashion of the week. If there was one overall vibe, feeling, what do you think it was? If I had to describe it in Speaker 2 (4:44) one word, I think I would say colorful. So much color everywhere. I feel like also people are getting really creative when it comes to dressing nowadays. It's not just the jean and the tee and like the fun bag. I've seen some really cool like 3D elements in like pants or like... tops or fun shoes like you're wearing. Things that really stopped me and made me realize like, oh my God, this is fashion. The 3D elements? Yeah. You mean like Speaker 1 (5:17) a fringe or a feather? Like I just like to call it Speaker 2 (5:19) 3D because it's not just fabric. It's like a pom-pom or like a fringe or like a 3D flower or like yesterday I was walking in my neighborhood on the Upper East Side and I saw this woman wearing this. gorgeous like pleated mini white skirt and she wore I think it was a flower pin it was like a Speaker 1 (5:37) big brooch love Speaker 2 (5:38) brooch it was pink and it was so beautiful even Speaker 1 (5:43) yesterday when we were walking in Soho there was a look that stopped Lanois in her tracks it was like a girl in dark wash jeans and then a kind of sheer cardigan with feather trim all along the jacket and you went silent and you went, she went full into like journalism mode. She was like, no one move. We need to get a video of this. And I agree with you. Like I felt this season too, there were so many things that jumped off the page and really brought like a lot of texture and movement to everything. It's interesting. Sometimes I feel cliche when I'm like, oh, fashion is like very maximalist right now because I always say fashion swings like a pendulum. Like we had quiet luxury for a really long time. And it makes sense now that we're in this era of color. And I think Chanel really like shepherded that in. People want to wear things that are fun. Yeah. But I felt the same way this season. I was like, wow, I think every single fashion rule we've ever been taught went out the window. I agree. Like I saw Ralph Lauren and Tory Burch. Like there were dresses with like boas. Yeah. And. Then also I would see polar opposite color skirt and top, but I loved it. Yeah. And then mixing clashing prints, so much of that at like DVF. And so many like fringy elements everywhere. Yes. Like things that really, again, like jumped off the page. Yeah. So to anybody listening right now that like thinks that there are fashion rules, I don't know. I feel like right now there are none. Speaker 2 (7:11) Broken. Speaker 1 (7:11) Yeah. The bigger, the better, I feel like. Speaker 2 (7:13) Rules were meant to be broken. Speaker 1 (7:15) Especially fashion ones. Yes. I saw, oh God, I wish I could remember what interview it was. But someone recently was like the true mark of personal style is like someone who follows no rules. Like rules are the antithesis of fashion. And I was like, oh, I love that. Speaker 2 (7:28) There is something that I really like to go by, which is personality dressing. It's something that I really notice and pay attention to because I feel like some people, it's only them that. who can pull off the outfits that they're wearing. And I can see their personality and I can see who they are by what they put on their bodies, like how they choose to dress in the morning. It's crazy how much you can do with fashion and how Speaker 1 (7:55) much you can show who you are as a person Speaker 2 (7:56) through fashion. Speaker 1 (7:58) And I'm sure you see that so much on the street. Like you can see someone wearing something and you're like, oh, I know, I get their vibe. Oh, yeah. I mean, at this point, it's almost like down to a science. Were there any trends you saw this week Speaker 2 (8:09) that you like so far? One of... The biggest trends I spotted, which is quite funny to call it a trend because it's so basic, but I've seen so many people do, is tying a sweater around the waist. I think it's like the pre-fall element. People really want to start wearing like heavier fabrics like sweaters, but obviously it's still hot. So they just like tie it around the waist for like an extra form of layering. I want to say a pop of red. I want to say color blocking. I feel like these are the main trends that I have seen recently on the streets this week. So much red. But I feel like that every season. Every season. The last few seasons Speaker 1 (8:51) I've been like, red, so much red. I just think as we like go into this more louder, bolder era of fashion, I think we're going to see a lot of red. So do you remember like, Speaker 2 (9:02) I think it was... two or three years ago where pop of red was really, really big. Speaker 1 (9:07) And Speaker 2 (9:07) then I want to say last year, it wasn't really as dominant. Right. So this year it's back and it's not only a pop of red, it's like a full red. Yes. I've seen so many women wearing like just a full on red outfit. I actually wore an all red look myself this week. I wore a Montclair, like it was a boucle type of fabric. Pretty. It was like a zip up. jacket and like long shorts. Cute. Yeah. Just like a full red look. I love that. Yeah. And I loved it. I wore a red skirt to Tory Burch Speaker 1 (9:42) and I got so many DMs about it. People were like, oh my God, that color red. Like, where can I find something like that? I think it's a really easy way to like bring color into your wardrobe. It's so true. And I thought Speaker 2 (9:52) red wasn't my color. But when I put it on, I was like, wait, that's cute. And people were telling me that's your color. You have to wear it more. Well, Speaker 1 (10:00) I think. the trick to red is it's the shade of red because there are certain reds that don't look good on my skin tone. So like a red that is way lighter, that kind of skews orangey does not look good on me. But a bright cherry red looks like that skirt really like I think with my hair pops. Yes. So I think if you're like trying to incorporate red into your wardrobe, go somewhere in person and like try on a few different things and make sure you're getting the right shade. If you were to add one red element into your wardrobe, I would say shoes. A hundred percent. Yes. Because also it's something that I think doesn't veer too trendy. I actually think you'll wear like year round. Like one of my best friends, I remember last summer,
