Speaker 2 (0:00) Hey guys, welcome back to the Law of Attraction Secrets Podcast. I'm your host, Natasha Graziano, and we're here today in New York with two beautiful humans. They are pastors in Jersey City. They're authors. They're relationship educators. I'm so excited. This couple met. I got married in three weeks. Speaker 3 (0:20) So my Speaker 2 (0:20) kind of people. And have been together for 33 years. Today, we're going to be diving into all things relationship, winning together, which is the name of their book, how to get through challenging times, and so much more. I can't wait to dive deeper. Welcome to the show, Chiron and Becca Richardson. Thank you for having Speaker 1 (0:39) us. We're so excited to be here. Speaker 2 (0:41) Exactly. Thank you. Let's go. And hello, audience. Hello. We love it. What a beautiful, beautiful day. to be sharing with the world a beautiful moment in time. And what a better way to get started than you guys. I'm so excited. First of all, can we just go straight to it? Y'all got Speaker 3 (0:57) married in three weeks? Three weeks. We met, he proposed, and we were married in my mother's backyard, may I add, Speaker 2 (1:07) in just three weeks. Speaker 1 (1:08) Three weeks. Speaker 2 (1:09) Now that's my kind of people, because I meet somebody and I'm like, let's go right down that aisle. People are like, you're crazy. But you're the proven product. You've been together for 33 years. There's a lot of threes going on today. I'm feeling that energy. And y'all know I have a tattoo that says three, three, three. Yes, that's what you said. That's your number. Exactly. Yes. How did that happen? Speaker 1 (1:27) So now we will say this. Even though it worked, we don't recommend it. Speaker 2 (1:31) Right. Speaker 1 (1:32) Right. We do not recommend getting married in three weeks. We were just fortunate and blessed because actually after two years of marriage, we almost got a divorce. Speaker 3 (1:40) Right. Speaker 1 (1:40) Because things were not as good as they are now. Speaker 3 (1:42) Yeah. And, you know, my husband's reasoning for getting married sounds so much better than mine. I was just like young. I'm like, we're young. We're foolish. Let's do this. You know, but he actually had a deeper connection. And he, you know, I'll let him explain that. But me, I was just like, oh, come Speaker 2 (2:00) on, let's do this. Let's jump into it. I sit in between the two. I got the deep to it and this excited spontaneity. So what was your side? Speaker 1 (2:08) So I do like. I like to say this, and I hope he's not watching, but she was dating my roommate, and I stole the from her. That's a whole other story. For Speaker 2 (2:15) a whole other time. But Speaker 1 (2:16) we actually, so I wasn't thinking about getting married, I'm going to be honest with you. We met, and we were sitting, and we were having a conversation. And while she was talking, I can't describe it, but it was almost like I had a conversation with myself. And what I said to myself was that, man, this may be the one, but you're not ready to be married. But the question was, would you rather take the chance, marry her now, worst thing that can happen is you get a divorce, or don't marry her, marry the wrong one, and then 20 years later say you should have given it a shot? Speaker 3 (2:47) And since he tried to throw me under the bus, let me tell you, he was dating the wrong one. Speaker 2 (2:53) Oh, there we go. Yeah, and that sounds about right. Usually, they say the wrong one comes before the right one. That Speaker 1 (2:59) might be true. I think Speaker 2 (3:00) that was the case. And for both of you, it sounds like you both had the wrong one before the right one. Oh, absolutely. Exactly. We Speaker 3 (3:06) did. And early on in our marriage, you know, we didn't really know at that time what it meant to be a husband, what it meant to be a wife, what it meant to be one. Yes. You know what I'm saying? So like my husband just said, you know, after two years, we were literally days away from divorce. Days Speaker 1 (3:21) away. Speaker 3 (3:21) Days. Speaker 1 (3:22) Absolutely. And Speaker 3 (3:22) then we actually were introduced to God. Wait, so at Speaker 2 (3:27) that time? y'all weren't close to God. No, not at all. So Speaker 3 (3:31) you didn't Speaker 2 (3:31) get married for the church, for God to be in divine unity, for God, which is, wow, that's interesting. We met in the club. Speaker 1 (3:37) Yeah, we were like, we found love in the club. Speaker 2 (3:40) You met in the club. We met in the club. Let me tell you, anybody who starts trying to tell me that ain't going to work out because we just met at... 50 % divorce rate anyway. These guys are the proven product. It actually does work. They got married in three weeks. They've been married for 33 years. So holla, baby. Speaker 3 (3:55) Yes, exactly. And so we got married and everything. And we were like literally days away from divorce. And then, you know, someone on his job, he was in the Navy, you know, introduced him to God and said, hey, do you know God loves you? And from there, that just began our faith journey. Wow. So that was like 30. That was like year Speaker 1 (4:16) 31. Speaker 3 (4:17) Yeah, it was year two. We were like just for 31 years. So about 31 years ago. But Speaker 2 (4:22) I Speaker 3 (4:22) will say Speaker 1 (4:22) this, that like she's saying, because my concept of marriage, when we came into this relationship, it really wasn't about being with one person. It was she was going to be the main person. But in my mind. The main Speaker 2 (4:34) person, you were going to have side chicks? Yeah, yeah, yeah. You did have side chicks. That's why we were almost divorced after two years. Oh, this is getting better. Speaker 1 (4:41) So Speaker 2 (4:41) you had side chicks. Oh, Speaker 1 (4:43) absolutely. And didn't hide it. Speaker 2 (4:45) Yeah. And so you were just the main character in the movie, but there was all these extras. Yeah. So how did that feel? Speaker 3 (4:52) Uh, horrible, of course. But again, this was... Did you agree to that when you first joined? No, not at all. But again, I think we should also say this. We were 19 and 20 when we got married. We were very young. It Speaker 2 (5:06) feels like you've actually lived even though you got married so young because of this. Yes. Our marriage has grown. We have grown together. Wow. And we have learned these lessons. This is why we talk about Speaker 3 (5:17) it in our book because these are lessons we walked out in our day-to-day life. These are things that we have to apply to get to the place that we are now today. You must be the coolest pastors ever. Speaker 2 (5:27) Yeah, Speaker 1 (5:28) I think we are. We are. We dope on that level. You must be the Speaker 2 (5:32) coolest pastor I ever met. You're so real. That's what I love. So many people like shove it under the rug that they're like, you know, in the back room doing crazy shit. It's like, just talk about it, you know? And then that makes you more real. Like I'm very close with a pastor. And I mean, I say this off the record and nobody's going to guess which one, because there are so many pastors in my world, but you know, we're very close friends and he's expressed his love for me and he's married and he wants to get out the marriage. So all I know is. this is very real. Speaker 1 (6:05) Absolutely. Like Speaker 2 (6:06) this is very real. And every, just because we are a nun or we are a, and y'all, I'm not a nun as y'all know, but if I was, I mean, I'd be doing all that backwards. My hate mail would be crazy. But the point is when you have somebody who's so authentically real. it just makes other people want to follow you more because we all have temptation. Speaker 1 (6:31) Absolutely. Absolutely. Well, I mean, one of the reasons that prompted us to even want to write a book is because we grew up in an atmosphere where it just didn't seem like it was attainable because what was presented didn't seem real. Wow. And Speaker 2 (6:44) so Speaker 1 (6:44) we're sitting there saying, okay, do you guys have real problems? Because we're in this real world and how do we have a... Good marriage when you're dealing with real life issues. Exactly. Speaker 2 (6:52) This is the book here, y'all. Winning Together. What I love is it's very small. You can get through this in like a... an hour, like what I love about it, eight keys to building a thriving marriage. The fact that y'all got through that and you're still here, a lot of people deal with infidelity all over the world. Speaker 1 (7:08) Not Speaker 2 (7:09) even just in the US. I mean, shit, I came from crazy shit in the UK and people go through different things. And so it doesn't matter where you are. Infidelity still exists. It does. And so I think that the fact that you are expressing about what you've been through, I mean, eight keys to building a thriving marriage, you already know. We're going to learn a lot in this book. Is there a tag of... We can add, you can send me a link. Speaker 1 (7:29) We can. They just go to shyandbecka.com. Great. Everything is there. Right Speaker 2 (7:34) there. Speaker 1 (7:34) Shy and Speaker 2 (7:35) Becca. That's S-H-Y-N-B Speaker 3 (7:37) -E-C-C-A. Oh, Speaker 2 (7:38) I love it. Okay. I'm going to put that link below you guys. So you can, everybody can tap in and get that book. Just grab it now. Press pause. I mean. we're Speaker 1 (7:47) going Speaker 2 (7:47) to learn more about it in a second, but I mean, I'm already sold. I'm grateful you bought me four because I'm going Speaker 1 (7:52) to Speaker 2 (7:52) be handing these out today. And yeah, it definitely, just question, like side note, it definitely leads the man to wanting to marry the woman because it's like, yeah, I need to give this a second. Speaker 1 (8:03) It does? Speaker 2 (8:04) It does. It will. It will. It doesn't say don't get married after three weeks, or it does. No. We say we don't recommend it. We don't recommend Speaker 1 (8:10) it, but if you got the book, Speaker 2 (8:12) then Speaker 1 (8:13) you'll be better off. You can make a working three. Because Speaker 3 (8:15) you'll have the keys from. Speaker 1 (8:17) I'm going Speaker 2 (8:17) to still get married in three weeks. So yeah, stay tuned, y'all. I would absolutely do that. I mean, I would have you at the wedding. Please do. We're coming. We are coming. I mean, yeah, I'm going to talk to you after about who. I don't know if you've been following my Instagram stories recently, but yeah, we have some big surprises in store. Amazing. Amazing. And I'm wearing white today. Let's pray for it. This is so good. Oh my God. See, they were Speaker 1 (8:41) here. We could have did the wedding right now. Speaker 2 (8:43) I know. Yeah, because you guys can do it, right? We Speaker 1 (8:45) can Speaker 2 (8:45) do it. I Speaker 1 (8:46) sure can. Speaker 2 (8:46) I love you guys so much. Oh my God, we were so meant to meet. This is amazing. Okay, I got so many things I want to ask you. Sure. Go right ahead. This is my favorite topic because it's love. I'm going to start with a few of these questions. Then I'm going to go into winning together, marriage and growth, and faith in relationships. But really, it's all around this same topic. Speaker 3 (9:01) Okay. I Speaker 2 (9:02) know that people talk about this a lot. What's the biggest lie? people believe about marriage. Speaker 1 (9:09) What Speaker 3 (9:10) do you say? Speaker 1 (9:12) I'll say don't let your brother go right Speaker 3 (9:14) ahead. Speaker 1 (9:15) I think one of the biggest lies that people believe about marriage is that Speaker 1 (9:21) Love is a feeling. Love to us is not a feeling, it's a decision. It's Speaker 2 (9:29) a decision. Yes. Well, allowing yourself to love. Allowing yourself, deciding to love, choosing love Speaker 3 (9:37) each and every day. When you just see love as just a feeling, our feelings change. They Speaker 1 (9:44) do. Speaker 3 (9:45) Every day. For women, every hour they could change, right? But you have to decide to love because every day is not going to be the most perfect day in your life. You're going to go through challenges. You're going to face different things in your life. We talk about, you talk about being transparent. My husband is the most transparent person in the entire world. And there are times that he'll start talking about stuff and sharing stuff. And I'm like, yeah, I didn't know we were sharing that today. But I'm okay with Speaker 2 (10:13) it. Speaker 3 (10:14) I'm okay with it because I see the end result. Yes. Right? So we have dealt with, you know, infidelity. Speaker 1 (10:21) We Speaker 3 (10:21) are older. We have no children. So we've dealt with infertility. We have done with financial ruin. Speaker 1 (10:28) Bankruptcy. Speaker 3 (10:28) Bankruptcy twice. Repossession of a car, not having enough, not knowing where. And you still stayed together through all these things. Because we decided. Right. Every day we chose our marriage. Speaker 1 (10:42) We Speaker 3 (10:42) chose Speaker 1 (10:43) one Speaker 3 (10:43) another. Wow. So love is a decision. Because how many know, there's a famous saying that our pastor says. He says, when the money is funny, so is the honey. Yes, you better Speaker 1 (10:53) say it. So, you Speaker 3 (10:55) know, that can destroy marriages, money problems, communication problems, and everything. And you hear people say, I don't feel like I'm in love with you anymore. I don't feel like I love you anymore. Because you're basing it on a feeling, and our feelings change. But a decision, you stick with it, and you walk it Speaker 2 (11:13) out. Speaker 3 (11:13) Absolutely. Speaker 1 (11:14) Absolutely. Guys, Speaker 2 (11:15) this is so powerful. What did you do in those hard times when it was so crazy, when the world was against you, when you wanted to split up and get divorced? How did you not? Speaker 1 (11:24) So the last chapter of our book, right, is called The Secret Weapon. Yes. And for us, and again, for some people it's a cliche when we say put God first, right? Right. But for us, putting God first meant loving him more than we loved each other. so that I would always be my best version of myself because I wasn't doing it just for her. I was doing it for God. So Speaker 2 (11:47) you're fearful. You're a man fearing God. Oh, absolutely. Definitely. Woman fearing God. I love that. And we both Speaker 1 (11:53) had incidents where we were getting ready to leave each other after marriage. I mean, after God, because that's the thing we were on Speaker 3 (12:01) the Speaker 1 (12:01) stage. After coming Speaker 3 (12:01) to the Lord. Speaker 1 (12:02) After coming to God, our marriage didn't just automatically get better. We still had rough years. Speaker 3 (12:06) It wasn't at God's stir and bake. Right. We were Speaker 1 (12:11) heavy in the church and almost got a divorce. Speaker 3 (12:13) Yes, exactly. Speaker 1 (12:14) But Speaker 3 (12:14) again, we had to allow him to, first of all, show us ourselves, right? Because in a marriage, when you're facing those issues and those challenges, it's not all on my husband. He's not the problem. There are things that I'm contributing to the chaos. Go ahead and talk. You're preaching good. There are things that I am adding to, right? Absolutely. It's Speaker 2 (12:36) a Speaker 3 (12:36) two-way thing. My character, my personality, my motives, right? The things that I say, the things that I do, it's adding to it. It's creating chaos in itself. So the thing is, is that once we came to know the Lord for ourselves, then we first allowed him to shine the light on our own hearts. and to cleanse our hearts and to renew our minds. And in that, he showed me how to be a good wife. How Speaker 1 (13:01) to be a better person. I think another thing that people don't think about is that marriage is about being a spouse, not just getting a spouse. Most people want to get married for what that person can bring to them, but they don't think about what are you bringing to that other person. So true. Speaker 2 (13:15) And it's a two-way thing. It is. It's about give and take. And somebody, I always like to say, will show up and then what are you going to do when they can't? Speaker 1 (13:23) Absolutely. Speaker 2 (13:24) gonna show up Speaker 1 (13:24) we get Speaker 2 (13:25) that choice every day you're gonna show up you're gonna show down i always like to say to the person i'm with hey it's okay like if you ever have a rainy season i'll Speaker 3 (13:33) be able to hold Speaker 2 (13:34) it you know and like i'll be able to take it don't worry and you know if someone has like a an ailment or a sickness like i will be there because i've been through a health challenge so i know that anybody that i'm with it's it's out of love anybody i am with it's like I just know because of what I've been through, how much it means to me having somebody there for me, therefore I will be there for them. Speaker 1 (13:58) And a Speaker 2 (13:59) lot Speaker 3 (13:59) of Speaker 2 (13:59) people don't understand that. As soon as shit hit the fan, they're like, oh no, I'm out. And they don't understand how to handle it. They're like, oh no, that ain't
