Speaker 3 (1:37) Hi, Momo. You look very sweaty. Are you okay? Speaker 2 (1:42) Oh, hi. Yes, I'll be fine. I just went on a run outside, which I realize now might not have been the best idea in this heat. It is very hot outside. Speaker 3 (1:54) Probably not the time to go exercise. This heat wave in the forest has been going on a while. Speaker 2 (2:00) I wish I could just leave on my vacation to Shelly Mill Beach right now. My mom and dad and I are going in a few days, but I sure could use that ocean breeze before then. An Speaker 3 (2:12) ocean breeze does sound wonderful, doesn't Speaker 2 (2:15) it? Well, I'm Speaker 3 (2:16) glad to hear that you and your parents are going to one of your favorite vacation spots soon, even if it is a few days away. In the meantime, maybe you shouldn't try to exercise outdoors in the middle of a heat wave anymore? Speaker 2 (2:30) Yeah, you're probably right. All this sweat is ruining my fluffy tail anyways. I'm just going to take a moment to rest. Speaker 3 (2:39) You know what might help you rest? Listening to a story. Oh, yeah. Great. Our story takes place at a beach today. Perfect timing before your Shelly Mill vacation. At this beach, there's two seagulls who are waiting patiently for their delicious snack hunting day to begin. Speaker 3 (3:11) Mimi breathed in deeply as the fresh ocean breeze tumbled over the cliffside where she perched. She rustled her white feathers, feeling the fresh breeze run through them as she did. Mimi smiled. Summer mornings on her seaside cliffs were the absolute best. Hey, Mimi. Are you ready for some good snackies today? Speaker 2 (3:34) Oh, hi, Rio. I'm ready, all right. It's certainly going to be a nice day today, and you know what Speaker 3 (3:42) that means. Mimi tilted her head towards her friend, Rio. Rio looked confused. A nice day means... The sun will shine? Mimi laughed. Speaker 2 (3:57) Well, yes, but what I meant was that when the weather is extra nice, the humans flock to this beach. And you know what happens when humans Speaker 3 (4:07) come in big crowds, right? Once again, Rio looked confused, like he was trying hard to remember an answer to an important exam. Uh, lots of Speaker 2 (4:20) humans means that Speaker 3 (4:22) there's a lot of people on the beach? Mimi shook her head. Speaker 2 (4:28) No, Sally, it means food. Food, of course. So many snacks. My beak is watering just thinking about it. I can feel it, Rio. Today's gonna be a great day for us seagulls. Oh, yeah, snacks. Food. Speaker 3 (4:48) Rio looked a lot less confused now. Yes, yes, hot sunny days mean more humans, and more humans means more food for us. I just love how they leave us their bags of cheese puffs and sandwiches for us to take. It's so nice of them. Speaker 2 (5:08) Yeah, they really do love feeding us, don't they? Mimi nodded. I'm ready for it. My tummy Speaker 3 (5:14) is very hungry already. Attention, Mimi. Attention, Rio. Do you know your zones today? A large older seagull flew in and landed in a precise touchdown beside them. You two are in the same zones together today. Zone 10 and 11. Got it? Good. I'm gonna go give the others their assigned zones. Gotta keep order on this beach or there'll be chaos. Pure chaos. The elder seagull puffed his chest out. opened his wings, and flew with precision through the air and towards another group of gulls on the cliffside. Captain Ziggy really knows his stuff, Rio said, watching the old gull fly away with tight maneuvers. I think we have the most organized beach up the coast. Speaker 2 (6:05) I've never heard of any other Speaker 3 (6:07) beaches that have such organized zones for us to scavenge in. And we got assigned zones 10 and 11 today. Those are the ones next to the trash cans and the humans always put
