Speaker 4 (0:01) What's up, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Julian Dory Podcast. I am Julian Dory. And I'm Joey Deef. How you doing? How you doing? Good early week in Dallas, Joey Deef. That was a productive trip for the team, huh? It sure was. It was good to be back in Dallas. Oh, yeah. You were a local back Speaker 3 (0:18) in the day. Not a Speaker 4 (0:19) local, but a frequent visitor. Frequent visitor when he was Speaker 3 (0:22) down Speaker 4 (0:22) there. Yeah. I do have to say, Joey Deef had a great recommendation. on stake down in Dallas. Shout out to Nick and Sam's fucking amazing place. If you've never been down there, that is a real treat. And good stuff, Joey D. Like Matt James said, a true Dallas institution. That's right. Through Speaker 3 (0:41) and Speaker 4 (0:41) through. Yeah. So we were down there seeing Ben and Matt from Colossal. Obviously, they were on the show back in episode 297. And I think that was April 2025. But Colossal is... The company that's kind of like it came up controversially in the sense that people were like, all right, where are they going with this? They are the de-extinction company. They're trying to bring back extinct species. They brought back a genetically modified version of what looks like a dire wolf. That's certainly a start. Back in 2024, they brought that back and it was announced in 2025. And they're really working to bring back a woolly mammoth. And, you know, there's people that are like, why the fuck are you playing with evolution and all that? The interesting part about it is that from a conservation perspective, the way that they're doing this through AI and CRISPR and all that, which certainly doesn't sound suspicious at all. Yeah, Speaker 3 (1:34) CRISPR. Nothing Speaker 4 (1:34) can go wrong. Yeah, CRISPR. But in all fairness, the way that they're doing it allows them to test for basically genetic enhancements that could help solve the problems for current species. So like. As an example, a woolly mammoth, I forget what the percentage is, but there's a strong percentage DNA correlation with elephants. And so when they are testing, as they're trying to build a woolly mammoth by 2030 or 2031, when they're testing in the lab, they may be able to create something in their tests that allows them to solve the elephant herpes problem. There's a famous disease, I forget what it's called, but it's effectively elephant herpes that kills something around 20 % of elephants. And in creating a woolly mammoth, they may be able to solve that and stop that 20 % from dying. So applications like that are really cool. That all aside, we had a great time down there for a couple of days, got the tour of the lab and everything and really cool stuff. I even did Speaker 3 (2:33) some good work in the lab. if you remember. You Speaker 4 (2:36) did do some good work in the lab. Joey Deif printed, what was it? A million genetic codes in one click? Speaker 3 (2:41) I gave a small Speaker 4 (2:42) electrical shock to a hundred million cells. That's right. There was a lot of work that went in that. You had to put it in the tray and then they're like the button right down on the lower right side, hit that. And you hit it like immediately, like she said it. And within 1.5 seconds, you hit it. Tray went, came out on the other side, 1 million cells. courtesy of Joey Deve. So you might've made the first fucking woolly mammoth and we'll just never know it. Well, Speaker 3 (3:07) I just, I just know whatever they say they've done next. I'm just going to say I worked on that project. That's right. He Speaker 4 (3:13) did work on that project, but there was another, uh, how did, how did we put this? Another incident that happened while we were down there. So Hey guys, if you're not following me on Spotify, please hit that follow button and leave Speaker 3 (3:27) a five-star review. They're both a huge, huge help. Thank you. Speaker 4 (3:31) There was a conference going on as well that Colossal put on for the Colossal Conservation Foundation run by our friend Matt James, who is their, he's their chief animal officer. So Matt comes from working with animals his whole life, really good guy. And, you know, is a... overseeing everything, all the treatment of the animals that they're looking to create, and obviously conservation efforts that they're looking to help with. So he oversees this foundation. And one of the days there was like a full conference and panel discussion going on with a lot of attendees. So it was in Gillies in Dallas, which is a bar, which is like this really cool place. It's like a big barn. And so we get there about five minutes late because it was an all day thing. And they had upstairs, they had a stage and a bunch of chairs out in order for people to sit and watch this conference and all the panels happen throughout the day. So as we file in, we have the whole team down there, obviously me, you, Alessi, Danny Gonzalez, Amanda. And so the five of us go to the back of, I don't know, like the auditorium, if you will. Yeah, yeah. Speaker 3 (4:36) And Speaker 4 (4:37) we're looking out on where the stage is, starting to watch it. And Deef. as we know, is making a movie right now that he wrote. And you wrote it. You're Speaker 2 (4:49) going Speaker 4 (4:49) to be running the production. We got the financing ready to go. We got the shoot schedule ready to go. And you're the star in it. Shout out, Joey Deeth, Billy, Benny, and Dean coming to a screen near you probably next year. But, you know, obviously there's people you got to hire, right, Joe? Absolutely. A lot of different jobs. A lot. You need producers. You need directors. You need assistant directors. More on that in a minute. Yep. You need line producers. Yep. You need actors. Speaker 3 (5:16) Actors. Right. All Speaker 4 (5:17) of it. Director of photography, sound. It never ends. Yes. So I've been watching Joey Deif go through this process, helping out wherever I can. And so we knew when we were going to this conference that Deif was going to have a couple meetings in the morning. So right when we got in there, he's like, all right, I got one in about 10 minutes. And I gotta start getting ready for that. So he finds right next to us where we're standing in the back of the room, Dee finds these two little love seats that are just like randomly right there. I'm not sure what they were doing there. He's like, I'm just gonna pop down right here. So he pops down, throws in the AirPods and he's getting the Zoom set up. When all of a sudden. A rather disheveled looking guy in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts that, you know, fashion is fashion. They were a little short. They were a little short. Starts like almost like he's about to pass out. Like get knocked out by a tranquilizer dart. Starts sauntering over directly for the love seat in front of Deef. And it's going to be hard for me to describe this on camera. But as he gets to the love seat, he does like a 180. where his arms almost don't move and there's like a split moment where he, Deef is now behind him, where the guy is staring directly at the stage at Matt James who's hosting the panel and then proceeds to fall back almost like a zombie. I don't even think his arms caught him. No. Into the chair and hit it like this. and fall asleep immediately. His head, he was asleep on that chair almost before his head actually hit it. At which point, me and Danny G start going like this. It's like, I can't believe this is happening right now. Who the fuck is this guy? And we look right at Deef. If you know Joey Deef at all, I mean this in a really good way. When there's social decorum that's not up to standard, he gets very, very pretentious. And I'm a classy guy. He's a very classy guy. And so Joey Deif is sitting there getting ready for his Zoom meeting where he's going to be hopefully hiring an assistant director for his feature film. And he just looks quietly at the guy sleeping in front of him, holds his hand up and turns to us. He goes, Malz, you Speaker 3 (7:28) believe this fucking guy? You believe this Speaker 1 (7:30) guy? Speaker 4 (7:31) Now, at this point, I had my phone. And the 15 year old angsty teenage girl in me, if that is such a thing, wanted to take the side shot. I mean, it was such a good shot. Even like just the dichotomy of having beef behind this dude who was just knocked out, hands on the stomach, completely drunken away from the world. So it seemed to him like that's an amazing shot. And I was like, you know what, Julian, let's be an adult. Be an adult. Let's not do that. So about two minutes later, Deef gets up and as he's walking by us to go outside to take the meeting, again, he like walks right up towards me. Obviously, we're being quiet because people are talking on stage. And he looks around and goes, you Speaker 3 (8:10) believe this fucking guy? Speaker 4 (8:12) I'm like, I know, I know. Deef walks out, takes the meeting. Fast forward three hours later. Speaker 6 (8:17) The Speaker 4 (8:18) five of us are back in Ben's makeshift office with Ben and Matt, who run this company, meeting with them, going over some stuff, some different ideas, going back and forth on some people we can connect with. And Ben's talking about like some guests maybe I could get on the show at one point that I was interested in. I was like, cool. And he's like, did you talk to Peter? Speaker 2 (8:40) And I Speaker 4 (8:41) go, Peter. He goes, yeah, he was sleeping on the chair on the love seat. And Deeth is sitting to my left. I'm facing Ben right here. And Deeth goes, oh, God, that guy. And I'm like, who's Peter? He goes, Peter Jackson. He directed The Lord of the Rings. This is one of the top five fucking directors of all time. And Joey Deif is sitting there preparing to hire his fucking assistant director, freaking out that the guy's asleep and disrespecting the conference. Turns out he was jet lagged. He had a perfectly valid excuse. Yeah, Speaker 3 (9:08) yeah, yeah. Speaker 4 (9:08) It's fair. Speaker 3 (9:09) It's fair. Speaker 4 (9:09) He's like, do you believe this fucking guy? And he was sitting in front of one of the greatest directors to ever live who's worth like $2.6 billion as a result of his film. So, yeah. Speaker 3 (9:17) Well, you can't win them all. Speaker 4 (9:19) Never judge a book by its cover, Joey Deif. Speaker 3 (9:23) He was also wearing a shirt that said, keep calm and catch the flu. I got a real kick out of that one. Speaker 4 (9:28) That's Speaker 3 (9:28) right. That's right. But yeah, missed opportunity. Speaker 4 (9:31) Listen, maybe he's looking for work. You do have the connection now with Ben. Mr. Speaker 3 (9:37) Peter Jackson, this is a micro budget. So I hope you're okay with taking a pay cut of about 98%. I think it's more than 98%, but yeah. Speaker 4 (9:47) I wonder how much he would warm up to the idea of being assistant director. Speaker 3 (9:52) He Speaker 5 (9:52) wouldn't. Yeah. Yeah. No, I don't think he would. But Speaker 4 (9:55) really, obviously interesting guy for sure. And like I said, he, we, we found out later, he had literally just gotten off a flight from New Zealand. Yeah. So he and three other guys, they were like, they were really trooping it through the whole thing. So shout out to the great director, but I just thought the symbolism there, it wasn't lost on. Yeah. I'll put it that way. But other than that. Great trip. Look forward to doing stuff like that again. And hopefully, as we always say when we're around them, Ben and Matt stay within the lines. Yep. Come on, fellas. We're counting on you. Yeah. We took Matt out to dinner on Monday night too. We were telling him over some drinks like, listen, listen, this could go one way. Don't go. I've seen Jurassic Park, bro. Don't do it. Don't do it. But anyway, I did say last week. That we were going to get to my conversation with Vivian Kubrick. So we are definitely doing that today. That's Stanley Kubrick's daughter, who just as a rehash, if you haven't seen some recent episodes, there was an episode a few weeks ago where I talked about some of the eyes wide shut theories, which was the movie Stanley Kubrick made in 1999 that he. died before it was actually released and obviously had a lot of crazy symbolism that seemed to point to things like Epstein many, many years before we actually found out about that. And people have theories about some of the cuts and whether or not things that he would have had in the movie were removed by the studio after his death, et cetera. So we talked about all that. And then Vivian Kubrick publicly responded and tagged me. where she actually pushed back on some of the quote-unquote missing cut evidence and then I Responded to that because it was especially coming from her Where she's like a very conspiracy minded person if you will I thought that was interesting and it was at a point in her life where there was some evidence that maybe she didn't have a relationship with her father at that at the time towards the end of his life because of some other stuff which we did cover as well, but As a result of me then responding to that, then she reached out directly to me and I had a back and forth conversation with her. So I'm going to get to that in a couple minutes and I got her permission to read pretty much all of what she said. There was one side area where she and I were talking about something else that was private, but it's not related to the story. So we're not going to read that, but everything else that she put, we'll go through that and respond to that. But Joey Deef, some justice happened this week. Speaker 3 (12:28) Oh, wait, really? That still Speaker 4 (12:30) exists? Depends how you define justice. There was a 41 to 0 vote on some panel of Congress. I think it was 41 to 0. Unanimous. Yeah, we're going to pull up the article. But they held Leon Black in contempt. Speaker 4 (12:45) From the AP, this is on September 16th, Households billionaire Leon Black in contempt of Congress over Epstein investigation. The long dick of justice is finding its way to old Uncle Leon. It's not, but... Yeah, well... So, the House approved a resolution Wednesday holding billionaire Leon Black in contempt of Congress, referring the matter to the Department of Justice after he defied the Oversight Committee's subpoenas in its investigation into disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The action was swift and without a formal vote... and now leaves it to the Justice Department to decide whether to seek criminal prosecution. You think Todd Blanchett and the Justice Department are going to charge this guy, Joey Deef? I think they're going to do a very stellar investigation. I Speaker 3 (13:35) think Speaker 4 (13:35) so too. Speaker 3 (13:35) Yeah. I Speaker 4 (13:36) think they're going to throw the book at him, actually. Speaker 3 (13:37) That's worth my tax dollars. I'll say that. Very worth my tax dollars. Use whatever Speaker 4 (13:41) you Speaker 3 (13:41) want. Speaker 4 (13:42) And I'm sure there's going to be a lot of charges and major news stories to come from this and a very hoopla followed trial publicly, right? Totally. Yeah, that'll happen. So Republicans and Democrats from the Oversight Committee joined in a bipartisan effort to advance the resolution forward. No one is above the law. Speaker 2 (14:03) Rep Speaker 4 (14:04) James Comer, Republican from Kentucky, the Oversight Committee chairman, said in a statement, no one except everyone on the Epstein list, apparently. We will continue to seek transparency for the American people and justice for survivors in our investigation of the federal government's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell criminal cases. California Rep. Robert Garcia, the panel's top Democrat, called the vote an important step towards justice and accountability. Where have I heard that one before? Hell yeah. Blacks lawyers have denounced the oversight committee's pursuit of the former head of private equity firm as an abuse of congressional power. They said it had no knowledge of any of Epstein's. He had no knowledge of any of Epstein's heinous conduct. I remind you, he got breakfast with Jeffrey Epstein seemingly almost every day. Maybe not every day, Joey Beef, but he got it quite often. Yeah, Speaker 3 (14:50) yeah, yeah. Speaker 4 (14:50) I'm sure they just discussed. business and read the wall street journal right yeah absolutely yeah so and he paid him what was Speaker 3 (14:57) it 180 million dollars something like that something like that Speaker 4 (14:59) yeah knew nothing and Speaker 3 (15:01) and like after after he had been convicted yes Speaker 4 (15:05) that was all after he was Speaker 3 (15:06) convicted but Speaker 4 (15:07) again he didn't think it was that bad yeah he's Speaker 3 (15:10) like let's say yeah he paid for a Speaker 4 (15:12) hooker he's like Speaker 3 (15:13) we can forgive that Speaker 4 (15:14) right that's not good but it's not heinous it's not heinous it's not bad enough that i would stop associating with it i being leon black this is just what he's saying not saying we agree with that judgment but you know what do you say joey thief hindsight's 2020 something Speaker 3 (15:31) like that yeah what's better than 2020 40 20 or 20 40 no it's 2020 is perfect yeah but isn't there like a higher degree maybe i'm fucked up no no you're fucked up i'm fucked up drunk folks um whatever it's been Speaker 4 (15:43) it's been a long day we just recorded one right before this so you got to bear with me but there was another I'm just thinking of this right now. This popped in under the radar of something else that I can't remember. Leon did? Yeah. Well, actually, hold on. There were two things here. Okay. Number one, this story's coming in while everyone's fighting over fucking Robert Kraft and Macklemore and Ed Sheeran. Yeah, Speaker 3 (16:14) very true. Okay, Speaker 4 (16:15) which we'll still talk about, of course. But again, popcorn for the masses in so many ways. Obviously, Robert Kraft's in the wrong here and we'll go through it. It is meaningless in moving the needle technically anywhere. That said. The other thing that happened that we'll talk about in a minute is Congress just they're leaving DC. You see this? No. Yeah, they're just cutting it to the midterms. Oh. So they do this little thing like hurrah, we're gonna give it to the Justice Department. By the way, we're leaving work. See Speaker 3 (16:45) you after Speaker 4 (16:46) the Speaker 3 (16:46) midterms. Summer vacation. Speaker 4 (16:47) That's Speaker 3 (16:47) right. Speaker 4 (16:47) And by the way, who's going to lose the midterms? Obviously the Republicans because people aren't happy with that. So I don't even know the legality of this, Joey D. If this is pure spec on my part, maybe my congressional lawyers out there can help in the comment section. But if they do lose, does that mean that like James Comer becomes the minority leader on this panel? Because obviously that would mean Mike Johnson's not Speaker of the House. So does it apply to a panel like this as well? Speaker 5 (17:11) Yeah. Speaker 4 (17:13) I'm more well Speaker 3 (17:15) -versed in bird law. I can't keep up with this. You're talking about the Speaker 4 (17:20) moho with Peter Jackson behind my back, huh? Yeah, yeah, Speaker 3 (17:22) yeah. Speaker 4 (17:22) Peter. Right. Oh, your first name basis on him now. Yeah, Speaker 3 (17:26) I call him Pete, actually. You call him Pete. Yeah. Yeah. Misunderstanding. Yeah, exactly. Speaker 4 (17:30) Gotcha. But Speaker 3 (17:31) no, I mean, that sounds right if I had to be a betting man. It does. I would be a minority Speaker 4 (17:36) leader. It does sadly sound right, but... Continuing this AP article, Black is the latest among several prominent figures, including Bill Clinton and Bill Gates, who have been asked to appear as part of the Oversight Committee's long-running probe of Epstein. By the way, Joy Deef, whatever came of Bill Gates' testimony on that? Speaker 3 (17:53) I think Speaker 4 (17:53) nothing. Speaker 3 (17:54) Yeah. Speaker 4 (17:55) Yeah. Nothing. Hogwash. We did see Bill Clinton reminiscing on Better Times. Yeah. We did get that image. Yeah. That was worth something. Definitely. He's like, oh. man, I'll remember that. She's like, give me that. She's like, all right. She's like reaching. Speaker 3 (18:09) Enough. Enough. The camera's on you. The camera is literally on you. I like it though. Speaker 4 (18:19) Anyway, laughs aside, survivors of Epstein's alleged sexual abuse have told personal stories of being young women in a traffic enterprise organized by Epstein's colleague Maxwell. And this is what happened. This is the review. Obviously, we have continued to cover this on the show and we will. It's fuck Leon Black yesterday, today, and every day moving forward. But Leon Black, we covered it at the time, first appeared before this congressional committee for about an hour in June. It wasn't videotaped, which is already like, what the fuck are we doing? And he stormed out. He stormed out because he didn't want to share these NDAs. And they were like, well, now you're going to come back on July 16th and we're going to video you. And so July 16th comes. In fact, before July 16th, there's an agreement somewhere in the area of July 14th, quietly, very quietly, Speaker 3 (19:08) that Speaker 4 (19:08) Leon Black. was going to delay his testimony to Thursday, June 3rd, right before Labor Day weekend, but he was going to do it and he was going to share some of these NDAs. Speaker 3 (19:19) Then Speaker 4 (19:19) Thursday, June 3rd comes and really under the radar. In fact, if you remember our episode a couple of weeks ago, we literally missed it until a half hour or less, maybe five minutes. September 3rd. Yeah. Before we went on air on the 4th. Thank God I found it. And I almost forgot about it. I almost fell in my own trap, but we covered it. He very quietly. sued Congress, didn't get a lot of coverage, had a Labor Day weekend, dumped it in the news cycle, and said, not only am I not appearing, I'm suing you. And I'm not sharing any ideas. And why, Joey Deef? Well, he was protecting the victims. Yeah. That's what Leon Black's whole life has been about. Speaker 3 (19:59) Yeah. Speaker 4 (20:00) These poor women and children have been victimized by terrible people. Definitely not him. Speaker 3 (20:06) Definitely Speaker 4 (20:06) not Leon. Uncle Leon would never. Right, Joey Deef? No, he's clean cut. He's clean cut. So all these innocent victims of whom he apparently paid millions of dollars so they would be quiet. Speaker 4 (20:20) Again, pure spec. Did nothing to him. His claim apparently did nothing to them. He is now looking out for them because they did not agree to their privacy being violated by the congressional panel that was going to review their NDAs. And presumably, by the way, I assume, again, maybe my congressional lawyer experts can help me with this, not have their names released this time by the congressional people. They would just be able to review the NDAs for pertinent information for the Epstein investigation. Yep. Leon Black can't have that, though. Speaker 3 (20:50) No. You gotta protect. Speaker 4 (20:52) Can't have it. And this is the guy, even his own company that he founded, Apollo, as we've also covered. They did a probe of this. It was like an inside job probe. We covered that in a full episode about how much of an inside job that was. That still was like, yo, this motherfucker paid him between 2012 and 2017, him being Epstein, and the motherfucker who paid him being Leon Black, $180 million for estate planning, and, you know, this ain't looking too good. Speaker 4 (21:20) I don't know what it's going to take. I don't know what it's going to take for people like this to, even before the justice, you know, looking at you, Todd Blanche, because apparently Bull's in your court, pal. You know, I got no faith in that. But even before the justice part, which everyone out there not only has a right to ask for it, we have an obligation to ask for that. I would just hope that someone like this would have their influence removed. Speaker 2 (21:46) But Speaker 4 (21:47) you can't even get that. You can't even get that. Now, I'd, you know, it would be curious to see if there's like public reviews of him still donating in like the midterm cycle to both parties. Speaker 3 (21:58) Oh, I'm sure there will be. Like guys
