Speaker 3 (2:00) Cheers. Speaker 6 (2:02) Hi, it's your friend Tig Notaro on the Handsome Podcast. I'm sitting here with my co-hosts. Mae Martin. And Fortune Feimster. Hello, friends. How are you? Good day to you both. Good. Speaker 3 (2:19) It's Speaker 6 (2:20) lovely to see you. Yes, it's lovely to see you both. And I am bursting at the seams. I mean, it's really... Speaker 3 (2:28) Huh? Speaker 6 (2:29) Had a big Speaker 3 (2:30) lunch? Speaker 6 (2:31) Yes. Yes, I had a big lunch. And no, I just had. as you may or may not know, I've been doing stand-up for 29 years. Speaker 4 (2:43) And, Speaker 6 (2:44) you know, people that book you and whether it's in a theater or like a festival or some like, just kind of weird one-off that you do. It's like, they can be welcoming and like leave a basket for you or whatever it is. I just went to this It was a first year book writers festival. And I have and I don't want to take away anything from the way the kindness of how other people have treated me. This experience was like, oh, my. You guys, I it was in Kinderhook, New York. Yeah. In upstate New York. I felt what I kept picturing was I'm not looking for this kind of attention, but the way they did it, I was like, I could get used to this. I felt like Cinderella when like the little birds would come and bring things. And this, you know, have you been in I don't know how much time you spend in upstate New York, but sometimes it can be hit or miss. It can be like a little too rustic or, you know, a bed and breakfast can have a real like bed, you know. It looks cute from the outside, but it's not great on the inside. This was picturesque, start to finish. I pull up to the hotel. I'm like, well, this is cute. I go in and then these, I think it was a lesbian couple that just opened a restaurant out there. Aw, love that. made me and I'm not exaggerating the most delicious meal of my lifetime. Whoa. And what? I know. That's high praise. Oh, this goes on. So I have they they made me this curry tofu curry vegan meal. And then it was like, oh, do you want a seasonal salad? And I thought, I don't know if I need a seasonal salad. Then I just thought, sure, why not a seasonal salad? So I ate a bite of the seasonal salad. And then I was like, this is the most delicious thing I've ever had in my life. And then I went, well, now I'll try the tofu curry. Speaker 3 (5:05) Most delicious thing Speaker 6 (5:06) I've had in my life. And then I was like, I don't need to go back to the salad because this is so good. And then I went back to the salad and I was like, no, this is better than the tofu curry. And I kept doing that back and forth. I open. So Speaker 3 (5:20) are you like sitting by yourself? You're sitting by yourself. I'm sitting by myself in the hotel room. Speaker 6 (5:25) Are they like watching Speaker 3 (5:25) for your reaction? Don't know. Don't care. I know I'm Speaker 6 (5:28) alone in my hotel room. Okay. Okay. Then I open my closet. You guys, do you know my obsession? Speaker 4 (5:36) Yes. Speaker 6 (5:36) Do you know how much I love the actress Deborah Winger? Yes, we do. Okay. Yeah. Hands down. My favorite actor of all time. I open the closet door. There is a vintage 1970s t-shirt hanging in the closet from Urban Cowboy, my favorite movie, from Gillies, the saloon that's in Texas, in the movie. It's from the 70s. I'm like, what? What? Wow. Then I walk over. You're Speaker 5 (6:06) a princess. I'm Speaker 6 (6:07) telling you, I am not princess vibes. Like it or not. Speaker 5 (6:11) I know, Speaker 6 (6:11) but they were Speaker 5 (6:11) giving it to you, baby. Speaker 6 (6:12) It Speaker 3 (6:12) sounds like they've curated Speaker 6 (6:14) an experience specifically Speaker 3 (6:15) for you. And Speaker 6 (6:17) not just me. The whole event was so incredible. Then, oh, I'm just walking by the desk, okay? And I see this very beautiful hardcover book. I don't focus on what the book is, but I thought, what is this? It's Chrissy Hines art book that they have put in my room. My favorite, like one of my favorite singers of all time. Wow. And so it's a hardcover book of Chrissy Hines paintings. I'm like, what? And then also local. Some locals gave like soap to me. Not soap. I have my show at the town hall. So fun. All I did was open talking about how unbelievable my time was before I even did my show. And I'm in my hotel room going, when all of this, these gifts were given to me and the food and the hotel. So I told them, I go. I was alone. I said to myself, where the hell am I? And I got on Google Images. I was like, what is this town? Where were you? Kinderhook, New York. Kinderhook. Then I go to town hall. It sounds like it's from, yeah, Speaker 3 (7:37) it's like the North Pole. Speaker 6 (7:38) It is what it sounds like. I have such a fun show. And beforehand, I had texted my assistant saying, hey, how long do I have to be at the meet and greet after? Well, after this experience, I was like, I'm going to that meet and greet. And it was at the bookstore where the woman owned the bookstore. And behind the bookstore, just know that the bookstore and the backyard of the bookstore was exactly what you would hope. upstate new york is the the food that was catered by the lesbian couple the music that was performing that was in the corner and i think they're the ones that made the soap and then a woman comes up to me with a pail of hand-picked flowers from her own garden wow Speaker 3 (8:23) that she brought me my god that's Speaker 6 (8:25) your Speaker 3 (8:25) dream dude this is i mean the bar is high now this is like gratitude journal type stuff. This is... I Speaker 6 (8:33) normally in those situations, I'm like, oh, I don't know what I'm walking into. I don't know if who's going to be weird or overstep or... Nobody did. No one. Even the woman that brought me there, I had to hunt her down to introduce myself. She wasn't hovering. Okay, so we're... Speaker 3 (8:51) Okay, if you're listening and you're a fan of Tig's, you want to endear yourself to Tig, but you're nervous because you know Tig doesn't like... certain to be touched and stuff. This is what to do. This is like leave curated, curated gifts and kindness, but where you go just to enjoy. And then you buy, like that is so nice. That's the thing Speaker 6 (9:10) is I don't need to be Cinderella. I don't need those things. I was just so blown away. And then also side note, you know who else was at the festival the day after I left? And I was like, damn, I wish, I love to see her perform. Natalie Merchant. Nice. From 10,000 Maniacs. These Speaker 5 (9:30) are Speaker 6 (9:31) the days. That was pretty good, right? Okay. Natalie is sitting front row at my... at my show and then she's at the after party and we stay up all night talking and laughing and listening to Bob Seger together. Wow. Speaker 4 (9:47) I Speaker 6 (9:47) don't even know how to tell you. My dreams came true and I didn't know these were my dreams. Yeah. This Speaker 3 (9:53) is crazy. You should check astrologically. This is like things were aligning. There was a Speaker 5 (9:58) full moon lunar eclipse but that's supposed to bring about emotional chaos. This sounds smooth sailing like you were in the Speaker 3 (10:05) flow of Synchronicity and life. Oh, my Speaker 6 (10:09) God. Yeah, it was it was such I was like, wait, you like Bob Seger? I love Bob Seger. Speaker 4 (10:17) Me Speaker 6 (10:17) and Natalie Merchant are like exchanging Bob Seger songs. And anyway, I just wanted to share that I had the greatest time in Kinderhook, New York. But also, I don't want people to misinterpret that as. I think I am Cinderella and I need things brought to me. Or, oh, I forgot to Speaker 5 (10:42) tell you. Speaker 6 (10:43) When I had my other podcast, Don't Ask Tig, where I had advice. Yeah. Yeah. I had Reese Witherspoon on and somebody had asked about, she was like, oh, I've been thinking about opening a bookstore and I don't know if I should. Yeah. And I was like, you should. You Speaker 5 (11:01) should open Speaker 6 (11:01) it. Well, if I understand correctly, the woman who put this festival together, she was listening to that episode. And I think she said she had a pop-up bookstore. Her father had died recently. And she listened to my advice to that person. And she was like, I should open my bookstore. No Speaker 3 (11:20) way. Speaker 6 (11:21) And Speaker 3 (11:21) so Speaker 5 (11:22) it Speaker 6 (11:23) was all that folded in. And it was just a Speaker 3 (11:27) magical, Speaker 6 (11:28) beautiful. I Speaker 3 (11:29) really like that. Then also that it came from a very authentic place then, them being like, you brought this into my life. So here's this nice experience for you. That's nice. I Speaker 6 (11:41) felt, and I told Stephanie, I said, I can't, this is not a word I would normally use. And I know people do, and I'm not making fun of anyone, but me personally as Tig. I felt so nourished by that experience. Speaker 4 (11:57) You Speaker 6 (11:57) know, just that like real, you know, it's you walk through airports or places and people grab your arm. They're like, oh, I'm a fan. Or can I get a selfie? It wasn't that vibe. It was like it was. Yeah. A respect. Yeah. An appreciation. Speaker 5 (12:12) Yeah. Speaker 6 (12:13) And it just was so upstate, dreamy. I picked your flowers. I made you food. It sounds like how Speaker 3 (12:21) you want your birthday to be. You want your loved ones to just kind of plan something that goes smoothly with all the things you love. I truly, Speaker 6 (12:29) I said to Natalie, I was like, I don't stay up this late. I was like, this is so insane. And I'm just hanging out at a meet and greet. I was so nourished. I was so nourished. And then on my way out of town, I went to Natalie's YouTube page. This woman's a hit machine. She is a hit machine. And then she sent me a curated music song list for me to listen to on my journey. Out of stuff she likes? Just stuff, songs that she loves. Yeah. That's great. And she's doing incredible things in her life. Anyway, really cool people. Really, really cool. Her neighbor was there, her manager and all of the locals. I was just like, come on. I just Speaker 5 (13:18) had Speaker 6 (13:18) to get that out of my system. It was magical. It was so magical. I love how Speaker 5 (13:22) excited you are. We love to see our girl happy. We love to see our girl happy for sure. And a little pampered. Speaker 6 (13:30) Yeah, that's nice, man. Anyway, I wish that for everybody. Speaker 2 (13:34) Thomas, Speaker 6 (13:35) do you remember that question on Don't Ask Tig? Speaker 2 (13:37) I do. Yeah, that is so cool. I love it. It Speaker 6 (13:40) inspires me. I Speaker 3 (13:41) remember that too. It's Speaker 6 (13:42) so nice. Speaker 3 (13:43) You remember what? I remember that question too. Do you really? Yeah, I remember Speaker 6 (13:47) that episode. Yeah. Oh, how funny. Anyway, that's what it turned into down the road is a magical, magical night. That's wild. Love this for you, my friend. Thank you, my friend. Meanwhile, Speaker 3 (14:00) old. Speaker 3 (14:02) Bingo and bongo over here. What have we been up to? What's going on with bingo and bongo? Bingo and bongo. Yeah, how are you, Fortune? I went to the premiere of Practical Magic 2. Oh, yeah. And I got to see Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in the flesh. Sandy. Sandy. I got to see Sandy. Yeah. Sandy. Speaker 3 (14:28) Sandy! Sandy! Yeah, I love, that's my, that's Speaker 5 (14:31) one of my celebrity crushes is Sandy Bullock. Oh, really? Yes, I Speaker 3 (14:37) thought that was in the back of my mind somewhere. Yeah, she looked incredible and they were so funny in that movie. I rewatched the first one. To prepare? To prepare, yeah, in the daytime. And then the second one, they're like a comedy double act. They're really funny. That's cool. But I got pretty stressed about what to wear and... I wore a black t-shirt and black pants. And then I brought another t-shirt in case Parv liked my other t-shirt better. But I didn't have a bag with me. And so then I showed up and didn't know what to do. And then I ended up throwing the t-shirt in the garbage because I didn't have anywhere to carry it. It was weird. You threw it in the garbage? I Speaker 6 (15:14) threw Speaker 3 (15:14) it in the garbage. I panicked. You just Speaker 6 (15:16) needed Speaker 3 (15:16) money to burn, man. No, no. You were trying to hide it in the nook somewhere. I could have tucked it behind the garbage. I don't know. But it was a good, inspiring movie. We need more, like, witches and woman power. Speaker 5 (15:32) I think that's what it's going to take. I love those kind of movies. Speaker 3 (15:35) Yeah. For a big cultural revolution, like, we had flower power. I think we need actual sorcery, like a woman to tap into. Yeah. Yeah. I think that's going to be the thing. Okay. Speaker 6 (15:49) Be the thing, Speaker 3 (15:50) what do you mean? For what? To finally bring about a new world order or to shake up the patriarchy and fix this. Bring in the witches. Yeah, bring in. We all need to tap into our intuition. Speaker 6 (16:05) Guys, merch alert. Bring. Bring in the witches. Bring in the witches. Yeah. We need covens. We need Speaker 3 (16:12) handsome covens. All that silent digs Speaker 6 (16:13) gets about potential merch. Speaker 5 (16:15) Oh, my God. Yeah, merch alert. Speaker 4 (16:17) And I don't track it at all. I don't even know if we Speaker 5 (16:19) actually get it made. I Speaker 6 (16:21) don't Speaker 5 (16:21) know Speaker 6 (16:21) if we ever Speaker 5 (16:21) put that out. Speaker 6 (16:23) It's just another. I love a list is what it is.
