Speaker 3 (0:04) Hello and welcome to Fashion People. I'm Lauren Sherman, writer of Puck's Fashion and Beauty Memo Line Sheet. And today with me on the show is Sofia Rivkarasi, author of Between Friends. We're chatting about summer 2026 fitness trends, the J.Crew Blues, Gwyneth Paltrow's upcoming dinner for Sam Altman, and so much more. Speaker 3 (0:28) Happy Tuesday, everyone. I am extremely tired and have been up for like 24 hours flying. So I am going to keep this short. Enjoy your time with Sophia. I'm in Paris. If you want to hang out, message me. I don't have a lot of childcare this week, but I will be working and reporting. Please call me. There are people who I was supposed to talk to a while ago that I need to talk to this week. So call me if you feel like you need to tell me something. I'm available for you. Let's get going. Speaker 1 (1:00) Sophia Rivka Rossi, welcome back to Fashion People. I feel so honored. All my fashion friends are like, I don't know how to say this to you, but why you? And so I am going to just take that as a compliment from you. Speaker 3 (1:15) You're a great foil. You have opinions. Speaker 1 (1:19) No, no, no. I feel confident in having opinions on things I don't know about, but they're just very fashionable and really like... admire and are afraid of you just as the vanity fair article says so i love it you know Speaker 3 (1:35) your friends the foster sisters did a um a nordstrom session with like nordstrom employees once and they mentioned me in it and they were like we're kind of afraid of this girl and someone said it Speaker 1 (1:50) to me No, Erin literally said to me, she was like, I don't Speaker 2 (1:55) know Speaker 1 (1:55) how to say this to you, but like, why you? Like, literally everyone is afraid of her and fashion and you're just going on. And I was like, I don't know. I guess we're friends and we enjoy talking. Like, leave us alone. Speaker 3 (2:05) Yeah, they don't have to be. I told them. I was I told her I was like, they don't. I think it was I texted it to Sarah was like, I saw this. She was like. Speaker 3 (2:17) It's really funny. They don't need to be afraid of me. Speaker 1 (2:20) How do you feel when people say they are afraid of you? Is it a compliment? Is it frustrating? I don't. It's interesting. Speaker 3 (2:28) I mean, it's kind of funny because I'm not like, and, and I think like Aaron and Sarah, I don't think they're actually afraid of me. Right. Like they came on here and I didn't, but it's like a funny little, I think the thing that, that is, is hard is like Speaker 2 (2:47) people being skittish around me. Speaker 3 (2:49) Cause I'm like, don't be, don't be skittish around me. Be a little afraid of me or like. like nervous about stuff, but don't be skittish around me. Cause like, I'm not like. a monster you know what I mean no Speaker 1 (3:04) I think like thinking of like the devil wears Prada you know old image people think like you're the modern day person with strong opinions and I think you're a little withholding which I think is fun thank Speaker 3 (3:18) you thank you well I'm glad you're not afraid of me I'm not afraid of you either thank Speaker 1 (3:24) you you're no one is afraid of me I'll tell you that how Speaker 3 (3:28) was your weekend what did you do Speaker 1 (3:31) Yesterday, I actually went over to Erin's and she had a barbecue for her birthday. Fun. And then I've been, it was really fun. A lot of little kids playing, a lot of people in cute little cardigans for the evening weather. And then, I don't know. I've been honestly, I was just telling your producer, I'm in a heat wave that I'm not trying to complain about, but I'm living in Paris in LA. I'm living in the Paris of LA, my building. Oh, you don't Speaker 3 (3:58) have air conditioning? Speaker 1 (3:59) No, I actually don't like air conditioning in general, but this is like next level. Speaker 3 (4:05) But I've been really wanting to Speaker 1 (4:06) wear my new high sport outfit. And I just, the weather is not like ready for it. I got a full set. I got my first full set. Speaker 3 (4:13) What did you get? Describe it to the listeners. Speaker 1 (4:18) Okay, I got the, it's fully red. It's like a tank top with a little bit of a. Speaker 1 (4:24) poof. I don't know, Speaker 2 (4:26) but Speaker 1 (4:26) it's very fitting. It's a little thick, so it's going to really hit and fall, but I decided I want this to be my new uniform. I love it. I know a uniform, you need to have worn it to make it that, but I'm deciding it's my uniform. Speaker 3 (4:39) I have that top and I think it's really great. It gives a great shape. Speaker 1 (4:45) Yeah, the shape. I was like, am I a model? Exactly. And I got three pants from Scout. I know you went to Scout before you left. And I feel like I won the lottery. Speaker 3 (4:58) Cute. I'm excited to see them. You need to send me a FitPic or Speaker 1 (5:02) post Speaker 3 (5:03) to social. Yeah. Have I done a set? I have worn a high sport top. a high sport top and pants together, but not in the Speaker 2 (5:14) same color. Speaker 3 (5:16) Oh. So I've done like, Speaker 2 (5:18) I have a Speaker 3 (5:19) black peplum top that's strapless and I've done that with pink pants. Love. Yeah. Or actually, I had dinner with Alyssa the other night and I got the like, there's this top that Becky Malinsky also has that's the high sport material, but it's kind of loose. So it's like a more slinky material and it has a little print on it. And it's like a it's a tank top. And I wore that with did I wear, you know, and actually wore Celine old Celine trousers, but I would wear that. as a set, but I've never done a color top and bottom, but I think I love red for you. And cause we do a pretty similar coloring. Speaker 1 (6:02) I don't think of myself Speaker 3 (6:04) as olive either, but I'm so tan right now. I do look olive. Speaker 1 (6:07) And you're tan from LA, your visits in LA? Speaker 3 (6:10) It was 100 % from LA because I think, and this is really bad, even though this isn't technically a beauty podcast, we are going to talk about health and wellness and fitness today because I want to discuss the fitness trends of the summer with you since you're in the trenches. Speaker 3 (6:30) I have never been very good about sunblock, which is I know extremely bad and I get checked all the time. I go to the derm at least twice a year. I'm very careful. I'm not saying that makes up for it. But because I am a quarter Armenian, I can get extremely dark. And, um, it is, it means that like when I moved to LA and you're, it's, you don't, I don't really burn in LA. I don't know what it is, but there's something about the way the light hits where I haven't, I never got a sunburn the whole time I lived there, but I would tan very easily and I was not great about putting it on. I now am better about putting it on my face. But when you're in the car, you get tan. That's the other thing. Like a lot of my tanning, it was happening in a car. So even if I was, I do wear an SPF on my face always, but on my arms, I don't always. And so, yeah, it just like bounced. The tan just bounced back immediately being there for five weeks. Speaker 1 (7:40) I saw they did the vaccine for melanoma and I was like, honestly, thank God, because I'll like probably need that in the future, God forbid. But yeah, I think I having Moroccan skin a little bit like I think we do need a little bit of sun, you know, but I you just heard me about the car because, you know, when you see people drive with the gloves on because they don't want their hands to get sunburned. I'm like, oh, that is what is going to happen to me. I do not want my hands to look cold. Everything else I can handle. Speaker 3 (8:08) Yeah, I do have like one age spot on my calf muscle and it really stresses me out. Do Speaker 1 (8:15) you know all teens are obsessed with tan lines now? Like that's what's in is like showing your tan lines. And they check the UV hours. I was with a bunch of teens this weekend at like a Shabbat dinner and they were like, the UV is best from 11 to 3. I was like, I would never check when the UV is. best. This is a weird thing you're doing. Wow, that's Speaker 3 (8:36) interesting. Teens are Speaker 1 (8:37) doing weird things. They're even in workout classes. Speaker 3 (8:40) Yeah. Well, this is, okay, so moving on to, I have several questions about our favorite workout class where there are either teenagers or 60-year-old women who look like they're 40, burn. But how have you, so I want to talk about burn overall and what your experience is there because you've been going a lot. But also, before we even start talking about what burn is and because we've discussed it on here before. So if people have listened to your episode, they, they know it, but it's in. So burn is a workout, like a strength training with a little bit of cardio workout class. That's like of the Tracy Anderson lineage. Um, but it's in a heated room with infrared lights. So I went, I actually went on Friday and Saturday. And it was extremely hot. How are you dealing with it? Are you going to burn and also not having air conditioning when it's almost 100 degrees in LA right now? Speaker 1 (9:40) I am. And I feel like it's the same way like hot girls eat soup in the summer. You know, like I think maybe we are supposed to keep our temperatures warm. I love burn. I accidentally, when I was going to go meet you, signed up for builds, which was like the straight lifting class. And I have a bone to pick with their policy. And I'm going to say it here and I hope someone sends it to them. If you are on the wait list of a class there. they don't notify you got in. They ask you to keep refreshing it. And if you don't get in, they charge you a no-show $50. That is crazy. I know they don't make you clean up after yourself, which is a very important thing for me in Speaker 2 (10:21) a Speaker 1 (10:21) workout class. And so I really appreciate that. But I feel like that's Speaker 3 (10:25) an Speaker 1 (10:25) insane cancellation policy. Speaker 3 (10:28) I agree. And I think the challenge with once I went... Pre me going to Paris the first trip, I went all the way to Bern from Eagle Rock to Studio City. We go to the Studio City or at least I go to the Studio City. I have been to the West Hollywood. It's Speaker 2 (10:46) a Speaker 3 (10:46) little too West Hollywood for me. I love the Studio City location. But I went all the way and they were like, our water isn't working. And I was like, you didn't call me first. I live in Eagle Rock. Speaker 2 (11:01) And they were like, we didn't get to you. Speaker 3 (11:02) But anyway, yeah, I think like the challenge is like I went in the other day and I was a little late and she was like, we're really not allowing five minutes late anymore. And it's like, there's no parking there. It's really hard to park. This time I only missed one class because I was going to be too late. The rest of them, I was able to make all of them. But it is, it does take a... a lot of effort. But yeah, that kind of thing is so crazy. They need to, I think they just need to figure all that stuff out because it is such a popular class that there are, you know, they could have five more classes and they would be full. And every time I go now, I see a famous person. Speaker 1 (11:45) Ooh, who have you seen? I see like teen boys who like dab each other up. I'm like, why are you in this class? Like, go do a sport. Like, I'm very confused. Emma Chamberlain is Speaker 3 (11:55) in it all the time. I saw Mandy Moore leaving one day, who I know and would have said hi to. But it's a lot of actors who you're like, was that person on Boy Meets World? And that kind of thing. But it is a phenomenal workout. Speaker 1 (12:19) No, it's the best workout. I had one of the funnier things happen to me. I did the weight class and the instructor was like, you know, getting us all hype and excited. And at the end, he was like, let's take a selfie together. And there were too many hot people in the class. I was not feeling hot. I was like, I do not want to be in the selfie. So I like left when they posted a photo, tagged me in it. And I was like, how did you get my Instagram name? Like, this is feels like. That's a privacy issue. You should give me a free class if you're tagging me in something. But isn't that crazy? They like found my account. And they saw Speaker 3 (12:53) that you are an influencer and they wanted you to re-gram. Speaker 1 (12:58) But they did it for everyone in the class. I was like, but I literally did the thing where I opted out and walked out. Like I didn't know we take pictures in this class. Speaker 3 (13:08) My friend Molly has been in that photo also. That must be his thing. Speaker 1 (13:15) Yeah. I'm like, this is crazy. But Silver Springs, another LA workout, very strict on getting in time. I kind of agree. It's bad to be late, but you don't need to charge me extra. Just give it to the other person on the wait list. Yeah, Speaker 3 (13:29) I agree. I understand why they do it and it makes a lot of sense. But it is, the thing is, so. Must credit Carolyn Faux, who is in Paris right now, and I would love to go get a drink with her tonight, but I am not going to be able to because I have to unpack all of my crap. But she is the one who first told me about it. And there is something about this workout class. And I wonder when you look in. I remember my friend Molly, who also goes, who's been in the build photo, being like, were you always a. boutique fitness. And I said, yeah, I was like very into bar. Like I went through all the phases of the things, but I think net right now I do a lot of Pilates, reformer Pilates. And then there's something about that class that I think it's the infrared lights. And The heat I could give or take, but it doesn't weirdly bother me. I just feel like so strong and so it just it's the perfect amount of time. I don't feel like I'm overdoing it. I don't think it's hurting me in any way. It's such an excellent class. And also the instructors are all so nice and so encouraging. Speaker 1 (14:51) Yeah, they're so encouraging. And then you sort of realize like three reps is not a lot, but it's insane in the heat. Sporty and Rich opened up with the Forma Pilates teacher. Oh, Speaker 3 (15:04) nice. Speaker 1 (15:05) A sort of section above the store that has some classes there, not heated. But I think I need heated. My brain needs extreme temperatures to feel something. Clearly, I live in Speaker 3 (15:14) it. So what is your fitness journey? What kind of workouts did you do before this? I Speaker 1 (15:20) did Tracy Anderson. I sort of hike. I am not committed. I mean, I realized now having been on a GLP-1, I'm about to go do that body scan, body spec thing where they tell you you're like body fat. I'm like skinny fat. I think I'm like 80 % fat, like something like that is not acceptable. I bet you're not. Speaker 3 (15:39) You have great boobs. So like that's probably a lot of your fat. Speaker 1 (15:43) But I think I really want muscle and I know that it starts now kind of longevity. So I want to do the burn two times a week, the building one. Because I was like, it shouldn't be impossible for me to pick up a five pound weight. I literally have been arm wrestling all my friends, little kids, like Lauren Kasten's son, Quincy. He's like, hey, I was like, arm wrestle me. And he like takes me down. I'm like, this can't be good. I bet you're Speaker 3 (16:07) stronger than you think. I just went to my longevity doctor. on the West side
