Speaker 3 (0:00) So not to be dramatic, but I almost got hit by a car today. Speaker 2 (0:04) That's scary, Belly. The room fell silent. Speaker 3 (0:06) Yeah, sorry. I know this is supposed to be an energetic show. What happened? What happened? What happened? So I was riding my bike. Also, I have news. I'm riding a manual bike now. I'm not riding an e-bike. She's analog. I've transitioned to the analog bike and it was a struggle for the first week, but I'm really enjoying it now. Speaker 2 (0:22) You're flying. You rode past me the other day and I was like, yeah. Speaker 3 (0:25) So today I'm riding up. a hill and I'm trying to like speed through it because there are some bikes behind me and then a car is reversing out of like a garage yes but they can't see the incoming traffic so then a pedestrian is going like oh I'll help you out and is going Speaker 2 (0:42) like this like gesturing for him to yeah keep going keep going and I'm about to get hit by this car oh my god yeah and then so I have to be like I have to do one of these Speaker 3 (0:50) the arm gestures my first time on a bike where I'm going hey what the hell I'm about to die and he's like Sorry, but it's Speaker 2 (0:57) a Speaker 3 (0:57) bit psychopathic. Oh my Speaker 2 (0:58) goodness. Speaker 3 (0:59) It's Speaker 1 (1:00) a Speaker 2 (1:00) bit Speaker 3 (1:00) psychopathic. Speaker 1 (1:02) And you're like on the bike, like you're vulnerable. I'm Speaker 2 (1:05) vulnerable. And you're trusting in the others around that can see and is like, oh, come this way, come this way. You're like, oh, what a lovely man. No. No. Never trust them. Speaker 3 (1:15) So then I have to like slam my brakes. Yeah. But I'm on a hill. So then I have to like put my feet down and it's a whole thing. And then I'm banking up traffic and everyone's like, oh, what's going on? Oh, Speaker 2 (1:23) my Speaker 3 (1:23) God. Speaker 2 (1:23) That would never happen in the Tour de France. Speaker 3 (1:25) Exactly. So I'm just saying stay safe out there. And like you can't even trust pedestrians anymore. Speaker 2 (1:51) Hello. Hey. Welcome to Everybody Has a Secret. My name is Charlotte White and hello to my gorgeous co-host Annabelle Lee. What's up? What's up, Annabelle? Hi, produce room. Hello. It's always hello. It's always accent beat. Speaker 1 (2:08) Oh, hello. Speaker 2 (2:09) Hello. Speaker 1 (2:09) Hello, Speaker 2 (2:10) my love. Speaker 3 (2:10) No, Speaker 2 (2:10) that's all it needs to be. Yeah, great. And just before we get into this episode, guys, just wanted to let you know that Everybody Is A Secret is brought to you by Prime Video. Watch your favourite rom-com movie, The Love Hypothesis, exclusively on Prime Video. We Speaker 3 (2:24) just wanted to let you know. Yeah. Speaker 2 (2:25) It's a good movie. It's so damn good. Speaker 3 (2:27) Guys, did you see the iced coffee chat that was everywhere this week? I haven't seen it. I have. Okay. I'm really curious. to hear what you think about it, Charlotte, because I think we might have different Speaker 2 (2:38) opinions. Speaker 3 (2:39) For a change. Okay, so for those who are unacquainted with this story, there was a TikTok posted by the user Caitlin Recruiter and it sparked this online debate about what's professional and what's not. So she's talking to camera saying that her Gen Z client showed up with an iced coffee in hand before meeting a new employer, so for a job interview. And she was talking about how that's kind of unprofessional. Was Speaker 2 (3:05) the meeting at a coffee shop? Speaker 3 (3:06) No. It was like in an office space, I believe. Speaker 2 (3:10) Okay. Speaker 3 (3:11) And I immediately felt viscerally on one side. And then I went to the comments to check what everyone else was thinking. I'm on the wrong side of history. So Speaker 2 (3:21) what do you think? What are the comments saying? No, Speaker 3 (3:22) no, no. Speaker 2 (3:23) I want you to go first. No, I have no thoughts. I think probably before I develop an opinion, I'd be looking at the comments. Speaker 2 (3:31) But Speaker 3 (3:32) isn't this a fun exercise? Oh, okay, fine, fine, fine. Because I actually Speaker 2 (3:35) think I am very susceptible to the comment section, as are we all. Yeah. But we need to be checking ourselves. Do you know what I mean? Speaker 3 (3:40) Yeah. Because I'm often going straight to the comment section and I'm like, yeah, exactly. But this time around, I felt something before I looked at the comment section and it's fun. It really is fun. So tell me what you think. Okay. Speaker 2 (3:51) So just to recap, Caitlin Recruiter. Is a recruiter. Speaker 3 (3:55) She Speaker 2 (3:56) must be. I was going to say, what's that? My spidey senses are Speaker 3 (3:59) telling me. What's that last time? Speaker 2 (4:00) Is that German? Caitlin Recruiter is a recruiter and she says that a Gen Z person who was coming for an interview rocked up with iced coffee. Speaker 3 (4:10) Yes. And that's all we've got. Yeah. And she, I guess, went to tell Caitlin about this. And maybe there was discourse in the interview or after when they didn't get it that it was because they had an iced coffee in their hand. And it was a signal of unprofessionalism. Not sure Speaker 2 (4:25) about the context, but that's what happened. Gen Z client. Okay. There's such a difference between like someone going for a job and like a client. Speaker 3 (4:32) No. So what I think happened is Caitlin Recruiter is a recruiter. Famously. And helps people find job interviews. They go out and go to the job interviews that Caitlin is suggesting. And then this Gen Z person went back to Caitlin and was like, yeah, I brought a Speaker 2 (4:44) nice Speaker 3 (4:45) coffee in. What do you think? And Caitlin was like, Speaker 2 (4:46) no, you shouldn't have done that. Got it. Okay. Okay. Okay. I think that that's swag. I think that the iced coffee is swag. Speaker 3 (4:55) I Speaker 2 (4:55) just think that's good. I'm like, well, you've come prepared. You've gotten like a coffee beforehand. Unless there is an element of the ice where it's like shaking it and you're trying to get it out of the bottom and the straw's all flimsy. I don't know. Would it be unprofessional if it was just a normal coffee? Speaker 3 (5:17) Like a hot coffee. So this is where I find it interesting. So I immediately saw this and I was like, I wouldn't do this just Speaker 2 (5:27) to Speaker 3 (5:27) be safe. Yeah. If it was a regular coffee, I still wouldn't do it because I think I'm an overthinker though. Yeah. And I think I would err on the side of caution and have my coffee before. Just because I don't want to seem like I'm like cramming everything in. So that's what Caitlin was kind of saying, that it looks unprofessional, that you can't even just like segment your day to be like coffee, then interview, and then go on about your other tasks during the day. She's like, it comes across like you're coming to the interview. unprepared in a way. People Speaker 2 (5:58) are so crazy. I can't. Like, do we even know what time this was? You know, this interview or whatever. Could have been the crack of dawn. Could have been the crack of dawn. Could have been a ripe 2.30 second wind coffee, you know? And you know my relationship with coffee is that I wouldn't do it as well because... TMI. I don't know what the guts would do. No, the bowel movements are the liability here. It's just really Speaker 3 (6:20) risky. I wouldn't be doing that. And then in terms of the ice element, I would be really self-conscious about the condensation. Speaker 2 (6:28) Bringing an iced Speaker 3 (6:29) coffee, chucking it on the table like, do we have coasters? Are we thinking Speaker 2 (6:32) about the space of these employers? I'm not sure. I just, okay, sorry, sorry, just quickly on it. I just think it's giving confidence though. Like if you're not worried about the condensation and you're like, just out here also not worried about the bowel movements and you're just chilling and you got your iced coffee and you're presenting and you're fucking right for the job, then like go the fuck off. Ruby, what Speaker 1 (6:55) do you think? It's interesting. I do think that I probably wouldn't also bring a coffee if it was the first interview. But if I was meeting a recruiter to help me get a job, I find that a bit more casual. With Caitlin, if I were to kiki with Caitlin, kiki with Caitlin the Speaker 2 (7:10) recruiter, Speaker 1 (7:11) I'd be bringing my Speaker 2 (7:12) coffee Speaker 3 (7:12) and my croissant. Oh my God, I love. Kiki with Caitlin. But in an actual job interview where it's the first, this is the thing, you only get like... Half an hour to an hour of time to make a good impression. So you kind of have to be overthinking these small things. Because they're probably things that an employer is looking at and reading into. Oh, God. Maybe I'm assuming. Speaker 2 (7:38) I just think live your best life. Would I do it? No, but that's because I don't trust the time management that it would take to get the coffee and then rock up. I actually wouldn't even think about the condensation. I'd be more worried about the bowel movements on an already nerve-wracking day. Speaker 3 (7:54) Yeah, exactly. The bowel movements are like my number one area of wee or siren. Speaker 2 (8:01) And before we start to deep that, should we just move on? That might be where we end it. Speaker 2 (8:13) Shushies, there's nothing we love more than a good rom-com and we know you feel the same. So listen up because there's one you need to add to your watch list ASAP. It's called The Love Hypothesis and you can watch it exclusively on Prime Video. It's got all the hallmarks of a rom-com classic. It's based on a book talk sensation and New York Times bestseller, has the dreamiest cast and there's a whole fake dating scenario. Every good rom-com involves a little fake dating, right? Starring Lily Reinhart as Olive, a PhD student who's far too preoccupied with her research to care about a love life, and Tom Bateman as Adam, an intimidating science professor with a formidable reputation. It's the ideal film to cozy up to this weekend. Olive wants to prove to her friend Arne that she's moved on from her crush, the guy Arne now wants to date, while Adam needs to prove to the university that he's putting down roots and won't be relocating anytime soon. So, their fake relationship works for them both. At first, anyway, because while the dating might be fake, the chemistry is certainly real. But at its heart, the show's also a love letter to ride-or-die female friendships. You can watch the Love Hypothesis movie exclusively on Prime Video, and thank you to Prime Video for supporting this episode of Everybody Has a Secret. Speaker 2 (9:34) Right. So if you haven't already seen on socials, actually, maybe let's rewind a little bit further. Last week, Annabelle and Ruby and I were talking about the shushies you guys' ex, right, that you had
