Speaker 2 (0:00) What happens when two people who grew up in a very strange corner of Los Angeles look back and realize just how bizarre their upbringings really were? They Speaker 4 (0:09) start a podcast, of course. I'm Speaker 2 (0:11) Ashley Johnson. And Speaker 4 (0:12) I'm Taliesin Jaffe. Before we became the internet people we are today, we spent our childhoods as working actors, appearing in shows like Growing Pains and films like Mr. Mom. In Speaker 2 (0:21) our podcast Weird Kids, we're diving deep into our unique upbringings, our friendship with each other, and all the delightfully odd interests we still carry with us today. In Speaker 4 (0:32) each episode, we get to share stories of our youth, the things that bring us joy, the problems that we face, and occasionally, the friends we've collected along the way. If Speaker 2 (0:41) you're a misfit, an outcast, or just a weirdo who loves all things nostalgic and unconventional, come take a seat at our table. Speaker 4 (0:47) Each week, we'll be releasing previously members-only episodes on YouTube and all major podcast platforms. with new episodes dropping exclusively and ad-free on Beacon.tv. Speaker 6 (1:21) David. So, hey, we have a show this week in Orlando. This week in Orlando. Orlando, Florida. Speaker 7 (1:30) You ever been to Disney World? I've never been to Disney World. Man. At all. Florida is just one of those places that is just a mystical, mystical state. You get a mixed bag of a little bit of everything depending on where you go into the big old state of Florida. Speaker 6 (1:45) I really wanted to film an episode of When Foodie Calls at Epcot at all. We just, we ain't got time for all Speaker 7 (1:52) that. Man, we just be busy. We be busy. We're fathers. We're fathers missing our children. Yeah. And then we're also going to be in Minnesota. Minnesota. Ticket sales are great for Speaker 6 (2:02) Minnesota. And then San Francisco. San Francisco. Yes, yes. That'll be good. That's like, that's not till November. So we got time to promote that shit. It's going to be a good time, man. I'm surprised you've never been to Orlando. We've been to Miami. We've been to the Keys. Speaker 7 (2:18) I never went to Disney World, but I have been to Orlando at a university for a show. Okay, word. But, you know, it's different. Like, when you go into some of these college shows, you're not really experiencing the city, right? Because at the same time, I felt really guilty if I would have just done the show and bounced and didn't talk and hang with them. Because I feel like that's what I'm really there for. And so if I wanted to do things, I just chose not to just so I could be with them and then just talk and chop it up. And also too is because they're broke college students, so they couldn't do stuff with me anyway. So I'm like, Speaker 6 (2:52) I'll just show you. Yeah, you out here eating fucking caviar sandwiches and shit. Multiple Speaker 7 (2:57) times I would pay for these kids' foods because they would like take me out to eat, right? And like, oh, this is like a college. It's garbage. And so I was like, we're going to go here? I'm just going to pay for you guys' food. Speaker 6 (3:07) I would also, if people were bringing me out for something, I would, you know, whenever there was like, hey, we're doing a dinner beforehand, I would go. But in my head, I'd Speaker 7 (3:16) be Speaker 6 (3:16) like, Speaker 7 (3:17) oh, I don't want to. I know, because I understand you guys. You know, you guys are balling on a budget. I know what it's like to be a college student. Yeah, I know y'all are trying to be good hosts and shit, but honestly, I don't need to do all that. I would just buy them food because I'm like, I don't want to eat this, dude. Like, if I'm going to eat some shit. It has to be at least somewhat halfway decent. So let me take you out. The Florida Keys is where we ran into that woman that died 15 years ago. I can't believe you touched her. Speaker 6 (3:43) I didn't regret touching her until she told me she had scabies. Speaker 7 (3:46) Yes. Speaker 6 (3:47) Then it was like a little like, oh, oh, oh. Speaker 7 (3:50) I died 15 years ago. It's Speaker 6 (3:53) like, Speaker 7 (3:53) oh, oh. Speaker 6 (3:55) And I just like, I remember you trying to tap me. If y'all want to watch episodes, send foods. Florida Keys, I forget the actual name of it, but Sin Foods, we went to a seafood festival in Florida and there was an old, strange, white woman who told me she had died there previously in a motorcycle accident or some shit like that. And I thought it was going to be good content to kind of pick her brain. She Speaker 7 (4:19) gave you a CD as well, too. What was the CD? I don't remember. I think that was like, was that her fucking debut rap album? Hey, speaking Speaker 6 (4:27) of strange, potentially drugged out characters, bro. So I'm at Langer's earlier, right? Walking back to my car and I see a kind of, now this was kind of like. This is kind of an endearing moment. I see what is potentially a, you know, drugged out, strung out dude, very skinny, little dirty, had like a pink tank top on. And this fool just has a bag of cereal, just like just taking it to the head. Right. What you mean Speaker 7 (4:54) potentially? Speaker 6 (4:55) That Speaker 7 (4:55) is exactly what you Speaker 6 (4:57) mean potentially. That's the craziest image I've ever seen. Maybe he was just quirky. You feel me? So he has a bag of cereal, starts like chugging it back into, oh God, don't, don't clip that. So then in my, in my, in my, I overhear a lady being like, you want some milk for your cereal? And Speaker 7 (5:16) I'm like, wait, what? I turn around. Speaker 6 (5:20) It was either a little old Asian lady or Latina lady. I'm not sure. I didn't get a clear visual. They Speaker 7 (5:25) all look Speaker 6 (5:25) very Speaker 7 (5:26) similar at that age. Yes. Speaker 6 (5:27) She had a little, a half gallon of milk. She's like, you want some milk for your cereal? He's like, yeah, okay. Speaker 6 (5:37) So, I didn't stay to watch, but she starts opening her milk to give this full milk for his bag of cereal. Speaker 7 (5:45) Let me tell you something. LA and New York sometimes feel like not real places. Like when you're at this area language, like that MacArthur Park area, like you could see needles in the grass. Yeah. Like it's that bad. Yeah. And it's gotten worse, which I didn't think was even possible. Yeah. Anything is possible, man. Yeah. It's pretty nuts out there, especially when it's hot. and everybody's just trying to grab shade. It doesn't smell very nice out there either. It's been hot and muggy and stinky today. Dude, it is not a pleasant smell out there. Listen, there are things that I've seen in LA that I feel like most people don't think it's real until you live here, right? I remember when I was driving back home to Pasadena. I used to live in Pasadena. There's Speaker 4 (6:24) this Speaker 7 (6:24) gas station right off the freeway. You know, I used to drive home super late. Yeah. Because I couldn't sleep well anyway. So I would like drive back at like 10 p.m. and then get to Sacramento at 4 a.m. Oh, Lord. And so at night I go to pump my gas. I see a dude just holding his knees like this, rocking back and forth like this, just violently. He goes, ah! Ah, suck your dick. Just screaming. And I was traumatized. Yeah. Because, you know, I just moved to L.A. And so I've never seen some shit like that. That shit freaked me the fuck out because it was like a Dave Chappelle sketch. Speaker 6 (6:57) And how was the dick sucking? Speaker 7 (6:59) Oh, immaculate. My word. Same motion. Speaker 6 (7:07) That shit was so violent, man. Oh, Lord. You know, man. Speaker 6 (7:14) Drugs are crazy. Drugs are crazy. It's crazy how you're in these streets. It's like you don't, you forget how it is outside because we haven't been outside in so long. I like not being outside, man. I Speaker 7 (7:30) love not being outside. I Speaker 6 (7:31) like Speaker 7 (7:31) avoiding bars now late at night. I enjoy all that shit. The amount of times in K-Town where there was a fight that broke out and I wish I was never there. And I just like, what the fuck is this, man? Like, I don't want to deal with none. Any chance of me dying, I'm not fucking with. Why are Koreans so angry? I don't know, bro. Why y'all always fighting? Maybe the Korean War has something to do with it. But they're just always fighting, man. It's like, K-Town, man, the food is so good. The drinks are flowing. The women are beautiful. What are y'all fighting for? There's this, like, thing, too, of just, like, not wanting to be a bitch. And it's just like, who cares now? Like, I really don't. And I may joke around, too, where I Speaker 2 (8:11) just Speaker 7 (8:11) like, yeah, this guy says I'm going to do something. Most likely I won't. I'm way beyond that shit. That, like, 10-year stint of going to Cape Town emotionally and mentally wore me out, man. Speaker 6 (8:20) Yeah. I mean, I remember just. You know being in K-town a lot. Yeah, you know and there's always somebody
