Speaker 2 (2:35) Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode, a little thing we like to call the after party. This is the show after the show, the party after the party, the bridge to get you from one full episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig into the dirt, our mission to uncover the truth, to confront the myth, to reclaim the story. On this bonus episode, we discuss the answer, finally, to one of music history's burning questions. Who killed Tupac Shakur? We also get into some of the new episodes that we're covering in our upcoming season. Plus, we get into your emails, comments, DMs, and as always, a whole lot of Rosie. This is the podcast for the musically obsessed, the outsiders, the independent thinkers who know that the best history is the history that gets buried. Disgraceland is where I tell the stories you'll end up telling someone else. All right, discos, let's get into it. Speaker 2 (3:31) Usually when they solve a murder mystery in the movie or television series that you're watching, there's a feeling of satisfaction. And sometimes that satisfaction is tinged with a bit of sadness because you know that what you're watching is about to end. And you know that these characters you've fallen in love with are about to no longer be a part of your life anymore. I feel like we're all experiencing this in real life right now. The end of the Tupac Shakur case feels incredibly unsatisfying. I don't know about you, but when they convicted Dwayne Keith D. Davis of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon for orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting death of Tupac that happened this week, I was left with this feeling of, is this it? What happened has been staring us in the face for decades. This was over a street fight, a stolen chain, some bloods and crips beef. What about Diddy? What about the royalties Suge no longer had to pay Tupac? What about the Illuminati, man? I thought Tupac staged his death to escape fame. I thought Castro and Tupac's aunt faked the hit. What about the seven-day theory? Hold up, we're going to convict. Dwayne Keefe D. Davis on his testimony about being in the back of the car where the shots that killed Tupac were fired from. But we're going to ignore Dwayne Keefe D. Davis's testimony alleging Diddy offered a million dollars to anyone who took out both Tupac and Suge Knight. I guess so. For numerous reasons. The main one being that Dwayne Keefe D. Davis proved himself to be an unreliable witness who could offer no proof for the theory that I just laid out. But his simple explanation of the stolen chain, the brawl that's on tape, and him admitting to being in the car and providing the gun to his nephew who fired the gun at Tupac and... Davis's own admission that had he been closer to Pac, he would have fired the gun himself. That testimony, that story, it was too simple to ignore. But sometimes conspiracy theories are too big to fail. The mystery of who murdered Tupac Shakur has been present in our popular culture for nearly 30 years. It's been... pulsing through our collective bloodstream like an antibody for boredom. If the conversation at the party got boring, if a Tupac song came on randomly during a long drive, if 50 Cent tweeted out something hysterical at Diddy, we could count on a good back and forth with somebody over the hows and whys behind the mystery of Tupac's murder. But now, that's over. But not really. Because just like our favorite characters from the TV series that we love, We don't want to let go because we can't accept the resolution to this story. It's too simple. It's too clean. It's too boring. We've built the mystery of Tupac's death into something we're incapable of reconciling with because. Any explanation that doesn't achieve the same level of drama as the theories we've been obsessing over for the past three decades is inherently unsatisfying because the mystery of Tupac Shakur's murder is a conspiracy theory too big to fail. So, I want to know, do you accept the verdict? The conviction of Dwayne Keefe D. Davis. Do you believe that this is it? That Keefe D. gave his cousin Orlando Anderson the gun to fire at Tupac in retaliation for the beatdown Tupac and his crew gave Anderson over the theft of a necklace? Can you accept this explanation and put down the conspiracy theories for good? 617-906-6638 to leave me a voicemail or send me a text to let me know your thoughts. And you might hear your theory on next week's Disgraceland after party bonus episode. All right. Speaker 2 (7:38) So, you heard me tee up some of the more popular conspiracy theories there involving Tupac. Zeth and I are going to dig into these in more detail in the exclusive section of the After Party coming up at the end of this episode. Go to disgracelandpod.com to sign up to unlock exclusive content like this, plus ad-free listening. Okay, in your feed right now, we have a special preview of all the new episodes that we're bringing to you in the coming season. A little bit more on these later, but we're talking about Queen, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Who Killed Bobby Fuller, and more, so make sure you check that out. Now, one of the stories that we're covering in this upcoming season of Disgraceland investigates the truth behind some of the wilder statements Quincy Jones made toward the end of his life. Now, there are three outrageous claims Quincy Jones made that involve musical crimes or music and crime. So I dug in to find out if Quincy Jones, the greatest music producer of all time, was telling us the truth. First, theft. Was Michael Jackson a musical thief? Quincy said Michael stole a lot of songs. As producer of Michael's best work, Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad, why would Quincy Jones say this? We're going to find out. in our episode. The second, fraud. Quincy Jones claimed that the Beatles were, quote, no playing motherfuckers, and specifically that Ringo couldn't play his instrument in the studio. Now, is there any truth behind this? We're going to find out in our episode. The third crime involves murder, because Quincy Jones claimed that because of his close relationship with Frank Sinatra, that he knew who killed JFK. Now, come on. Bye now. We all know who killed JFK, but did Quincy Jones know something else? And how exactly would he have gotten this information? Who killed JFK? No playing motherfuckers in the King of Theft, I mean the King of Pop, in the Quincy Jones episode of Disgraceland coming soon. So, in addition to investigating... The wild claims Quincy Jones made about Michael Jackson being a thief, about the Beatles being unable to play their instruments, about Frank Sinatra being the reason that Q knew who killed JFK. In the upcoming season of Disgraceland, we're going to learn who killed Bobby Fuller. We're going to learn what the hell just happened with Reggie Watts and his recently deceased ex-girlfriend. We're going to learn if As I Lay Dying proves that the Christian metal scene is full of fake Christians. And just in time for Halloween, we're going to find out if Mr. I Put a Spell on You Screaming Jay Hawkins was murdered. That's right. Everybody knows about his 75 kids or whatever, but very few people know about this theory that some of the people who are very close to Jay Hawkins believe, and that is that he did not die of natural-ish causes, but that he was instead murdered. We're also going to find out what the hell was up with the Queen bile pic from a couple years ago. Was the real Freddie Mercury story just too fucking crazy, too debauched, too unbelievable to put on screen? Well, yes, yes, and yes. And we're going to give you all the Radio Gaga details in the Queen episode of Disgraceland. That's coming up next. That's next week. Plus, we get into Alice Cooper, David Crosby, Blind Melon, Shannon Hoon, and more in the upcoming season of the Disgraceland podcast. So that's part of our special episode. It's in the feed this week. We preview all of that. We get
