Speaker 3 (0:00) For many of us, going further isn't a choice. It's a feeling we can't ignore because ambition has a way of outgrowing where it began. Speaker 3 (0:11) Turning dreams into direction. Speaker 3 (0:17) Every journey brings us closer to the life we imagine. Speaker 3 (0:23) So, where will your journey take you? Etihad. Beyond Borders. Speaker 1 (0:33) Ghosts and spooky things can be found in old places and new. Speaker 1 (0:40) But it always feels like it's the old places that hold the deepest, darkest things like in these true stories. Do you stay among spirits in somewhere old and creepy? Like these people did? Speaker 1 (1:02) Paranormal Inn, York, UK, circa 2000 Speaker 1 (1:10) The old inn stood tucked away into one of the narrow stone streets of York. its crooked timber beams leaning slightly with age as though the building itself was tired from carrying centuries of secrets. Speaker 1 (1:24) Tourists loved it for its history. Ghost Hunters loved it for other reasons entirely. Speaker 1 (1:30) And in the year 2000, Kyle was thrilled to learn he'd gotten a job there. Speaker 1 (1:37) At the time, he was young, energetic, and fascinated by the idea of working somewhere so old and so well-known. Speaker 1 (1:46) The inn had survived for hundreds of years. Locals claim parts of the structure dated back to medieval times, and stories about spirits wandering its halls had become almost as famous as the pub itself. Speaker 1 (2:01) Kyle didn't believe any of it. Well, not really. On his first night shift, one of the staff told him to head around the back entrance so they could let him in and show him around the property. The building was far bigger than he expected. Hallways twisted into other hallways. Staircases led to rooms at odd angles. He soon discovered that there were four main sections to the inn, all connected together over generations of construction. And some of the walls felt odd and looked out of place. However, given the place's history of construction, there was a good chance that it was just additions that had been placed over time and it had just produced that effect. Speaker 1 (2:48) That first shift however was quiet, a little too quiet. Speaker 1 (2:54) No guests were occupying several of the upstairs suites, and during the early hours of the morning, Kyle decided to sneak into one of the empty rooms to relax for a while. He plugged in his laptop, put on a television series, and stretched out on one of the beds. The glow from the screen flickered against the old wooden furniture, while wind rattled faintly against the windows outside. Speaker 1 (3:20) Eventually, exhaustion overtook him, and sometime later, he worked suddenly to a loud bang. Speaker 1 (3:28) Kyle jolted upright in confusion, his heart racing as he looked around the dark and sweet. For a moment he couldn't understand what had woken him. Speaker 1 (3:38) He confirmed that the room was empty of any other people before he noticed his laptop. It was no longer lying flat where he had left it. Instead, it was standing upright on its edge at an almost impossible angle near the foot of his bed. balanced awkwardly as though someone had carefully placed it there. But that wasn't the worst part. The charger cable, which had been plugged into the wall across the room, was now stretched across the bed towards him, and the plug itself rested near his pillow. Speaker 1 (4:12) Kyle stared at it in silence. There was not a single sound in that room other than his breathing. Speaker 1 (4:19) No one else was supposed to be in the room, and it didn't look like anyone else was. The atmosphere inside the suite had changed slightly. It suddenly felt smaller and strange somehow. Speaker 1 (4:33) Without wasting another second, Kyle grabbed his things, unplugged the laptop, and hurried out into the corridor. He refused to return to that room for the rest of the night. Speaker 1 (4:45) Now, at the time, he tried to rationalize it. Maybe he had moved things while he was asleep. Maybe the laptop had slipped somehow. Maybe. Speaker 1 (4:57) But deep down, the experience unsettled him far more than he wanted to admit. Speaker 1 (5:03) It was then, about two weeks later, something else happened that made him question everything. Four rugby players checked into the inn and they were assigned that exact same suite. Speaker 1 (5:16) the room itself had been rearranged with four single beds to accommodate them and the men immediately made an impression they were loud physically imposing and clearly they were there to enjoy themselves Speaker 1 (5:30) One of the reception staff jokingly warned them that the inn was haunted. The rugby players laughed it off, and one of them loudly announced that ghosts didn't exist. Another mocked the stories they'd heard about skeletons supposedly being discovered
