Speaker 2 (0:24) A Bengal hates to see this one coming. Yup. Speaker 1 (0:27) Okay. Speaker 1 (0:30) Okay. I Speaker 2 (0:31) guess we'll just say, hey, welcome back to Brooke and Connor Makeup Podcast. That's always a good place to start. Speaker 1 (0:34) Okay. Speaker 2 (0:35) You know? Yeah. Hey, Brooke. Speaker 1 (0:38) Hey, Connor. I Speaker 2 (0:39) like your shoes. Speaker 1 (0:40) Thank you. They came with these laces. Speaker 2 (0:43) That's sweet. Yeah. I have two pairs of those Alohas. I Speaker 1 (0:45) thought that it was just something that the website was doing to be quirky. But when I received them, they were two different color laces. That's fun. And I like it. I Speaker 2 (0:54) like it, too. Yeah. It's very cool. Speaker 1 (0:56) Yeah. How are you doing, my sweet? Precious tiny dancer. Good. Speaker 2 (0:59) It's so good. Fall kind of care. Speaker 1 (1:03) No. Speaker 2 (1:05) Fall is here. Speaker 1 (1:07) Do not cry. Speaker 2 (1:09) I'm not going to cry. Fall is here though. Speaker 1 (1:10) It's fabulous. It doesn't necessarily feel like it in Los Angeles. Speaker 2 (1:16) Because Speaker 1 (1:16) it's hot. What did you do this week? Speaker 2 (1:19) I didn't do much. I've been watching a lot of TV. I don't remember how to do this. Speaker 1 (1:25) It's hard because it's like we know what we need to talk about. I know. But it's like how do we get. Speaker 2 (1:29) Yeah. Okay. Whatever. We'll just do Speaker 1 (1:30) it. Speaker 2 (1:30) I think just Speaker 1 (1:30) like you can just start. Or do you want, maybe I can say something? Yeah, yeah, you start. I didn't make it, Dancing with the Stars was on last night, which is one of my favorite shows. Speaker 2 (1:41) Oh, I missed it. You Speaker 1 (1:42) may have heard of it. You may have heard of it. It's on ABC, 8 p.m. EST, as well as 8 p.m. PST. Speaker 2 (1:49) Not to be Speaker 1 (1:49) confused with them coming out at the same time. Speaker 2 (1:52) Very funky. Because Speaker 1 (1:53) why would they? You know, one of my friends is on the show. Speaker 2 (1:58) And Speaker 1 (1:59) I, he's a good friend of mine. And he did amazing. Speaker 2 (2:04) Wow. And Speaker 1 (2:05) I want him to know that genuinely, and I'm not blowing smoke up his ass because he's a partner of mine. Like that was a good dance. And like you are getting choreography that is really challenging because you can do it because you can move your body in a certain way that is exceptional. Speaker 2 (2:28) Yeah. Speaker 1 (2:29) And. Speaker 1 (2:32) You're being held to a really high standard because of how you can move your body in that fabulous way. Speaker 2 (2:38) Thanks. Yeah. Love to move. Yeah, I know. Before we even do any of this, I feel good about the show. You Speaker 1 (2:46) should. Speaker 2 (2:46) I Speaker 1 (2:46) feel Speaker 2 (2:46) good. You should. I posted a lot of stuff last night. I called you. Speaker 1 (2:49) Oh, I called Logan. Speaker 2 (2:52) I Speaker 1 (2:52) wish Connor would have called me. Speaker 2 (2:55) We stayed after the show yesterday pretty late until 10 p.m. We were there. doing press and stuff. Speaker 1 (3:03) Yeah, it was like, it Speaker 2 (3:05) was like a very fun dance. It was a very different dance. Speaker 1 (3:08) You guys. Speaker 2 (3:09) And I also want to get ahead of it because there's like a lot of stuff. It feels like I am in a different world than the show people are watching, you know, because I'm like doing it and then I see all these things and it's different, but like. Yeah, Speaker 1 (3:21) what are you seeing? Speaker 2 (3:21) So I don't watch the, I can't watch the show after because it's like genuine PTSD vibes. But. Speaker 2 (3:29) Two things have come across my desk. One, obviously everyone sees the TV version, which is the camera version. So they see a different show than what the judges see. The judges, like, you guys can't get mad at the judges. The judges are there and they're sitting at an elevated space where they can see every step. So the score is coming in. The show has been around for 25 years. I promise there's method to the madness. You know, like, I guess they got, they were booed after my scores were received. Speaker 1 (3:57) It's not even like a, do you mind if I speak as someone Speaker 2 (4:01) watching the show? Please, I didn't see the show. And I know Speaker 1 (4:03) the judges are your buddies. And I definitely like a few of them. Speaker 2 (4:08) Yeah. Definitely Speaker 1 (4:09) like a few of them. There's Speaker 2 (4:10) only three. Speaker 1 (4:10) Definitely like a few of them. Whatever, the scores are one thing. Yeah. I just like, they're so hard on you in a way that it's because they know how good you are and they can be hard on you Speaker 2 (4:27) and Speaker 1 (4:27) they don't feel bad for you in any way. But I was pretty... Do you mind if I say that I was... Speaker 2 (4:37) You can say... Speaker 1 (4:37) Can I say how I felt? Speaker 2 (4:38) You are free, Speaker 1 (4:39) Ren. I was really upset with Carrie Ann saying that's a shame. I stood up and I booed. That's a mean thing to say. For the first words to come out of your mouth, what a shame. No, thank you. Speaker 2 (4:55) I'm like always curious. Speaker 1 (4:56) If I got out on stage, performed my heart out, and the first words were, what a shame. Speaker 2 (5:05) Yeah. Speaker 1 (5:06) I mean, you know what? I want Speaker 2 (5:08) to raise you this. Yeah. Before I received what a shame feedback, first words, first person I look at, eye contact, Miranda Cosgrove. Yeah. She was pretty Speaker 1 (5:18) front and center. Speaker 2 (5:19) Second person that I'm looking at while I say I'm going to throw up, Snooki. Speaker 1 (5:22) Yeah. Speaker 2 (5:23) If you can imagine, that's like I took melatonin and fell asleep during the day. Speaker 1 (5:27) Yeah. Speaker 2 (5:27) That's like the experience I was feeling. Speaker 1 (5:29) That is like nightmare. I'm on Dancing with the Stars. What a shame. Miranda Cosgrove, Snooki. Speaker 2 (5:36) Miranda Cosgrove. I do cuss a little. Yeah. Speaker 1 (5:38) That's Speaker 2 (5:38) like what I was hearing in the back. Speaker 1 (5:39) Yeah. You know what? I didn't fuck with that. It Speaker 2 (5:42) was a shame because. Speaker 1 (5:45) You can say that. Yeah, it was a shame. You can say it. It was a really good dance. Speaker 2 (5:49) I know the whole dance. Two things. Two things really quick. One, I'm getting a lot of the feedback is like, keep your head up, buddy, which is very much feeling like someone that's my age that I work with calling me butt. Like, I'm okay. We work really hard. I'm naturally bummed because we put. hours and hours and hours of practice into it. And then I do a dumb misstep that happened in my head. I'm going to be upset about not nailing the thing that we've been working on. Like that is natural. I'm not going to freaking kill myself over Speaker 1 (6:21) it. Speaker 2 (6:21) You Speaker 1 (6:21) recovered Speaker 2 (6:21) really Speaker 1 (6:21) well. Yeah. Speaker 2 (6:22) I knew that. Luckily. Yeah. But there's a, there was a lot of like online discourse about like, this season is so weird. Everyone's so stressed and no one's having fun. Speaker 2 (6:38) It's a competition. It's a sport competition show. If everyone was hysterically laughing after the show, there would be like no one's taking this seriously. I Speaker 1 (6:46) think everyone's having a good time. I'm Speaker 2 (6:48) having a blast up there. Speaker 1 (6:50) I Speaker 2 (6:50) have a ton of fun with the press. Speaker 1 (6:52) Yeah, you do. You know how to work the camera. My dad said you're a showman. Speaker 2 (6:57) Brooke's father's here. My dad's looking at us right now. Speaker 1 (7:00) That's why I wasn't there last night. Because we're doing some father-daughter time. Dad fixed my curtains. Oh, my gosh. That's awesome. Yeah. But... It's just like this the judging and like it's not even the scores that I'm upset about It's the way that different people are like being treated That's like ruffling my feathers. Speaker 2 (7:22) Yeah, and Speaker 1 (7:23) it's like I know why in my heart it's like because they know you're you have The potential to make it to the top and they're being hard on you but like be nicer to my friend. Speaker 2 (7:31) Yeah I, for the first time, I'm not, he's, Speaker 1 (7:34) it's his first time dancing too. I Speaker 2 (7:36) am genuinely. It's your Speaker 1 (7:37) first time dancing. That's what's crazy. I think they've forgotten that like you have zero experience, zero. Like the fact that you're doing what you're doing with zero experience is unheard of. And they're so hard on you for what? Speaker 2 (7:51) I'm not taking, it's so weird. You know how, like if, if someone responds to me and they're like. they're in their car or something and they're like in a meeting and I get a response. It's like very short and I'm like, they hate me and I thought we were close friends or whatever. And I take that so personally, I make up a backstory about how this person hates me and now I have malice towards them. And that's all made up and I've taken something personally completely out of context. I don't want taking the judge's very direct, almost hurt, a little hurtful feedback personally at all. I'm Speaker 1 (8:21) like, Speaker 2 (8:21) oh, that's fine. That makes sense. No, I don't take it personally. I feel good. We're in a really good spot. And what's cool, like, unfortunately, like, a storyline's amazing. Everyone loves a storyline, you know. To be on the receiving end of a storyline is, like, not awesome, you know. But down here, you know, and then to come back, I think Sierra was a really good example of that last week where she came in and... They were pretty harsh on her and then she came in and was like, Sierra Miller is in the building, baby. That's a cool thing to have. There's ebbs and flows. Speaker 1 (8:59) Yeah, it will feel really good next week when you nail it. How Speaker 2 (9:04) boring would it be if I was just doing okay the whole show? Oh, yeah. Speaker 1 (9:09) Decent Speaker 2 (9:10) dance. Speaker 1 (9:10) I have no qualms with you and your story arc. Speaker 2 (9:14) I think that this will be a fun. It Speaker 1 (9:16) will. And you're amazing and perfect. Speaker 1 (9:19) Like one of my like closest friends. Speaker 2 (9:22) I am like I'm having like Speaker 2 (9:28) clarity moments after I post like, ah, like I'm trying to be like earnest and like give people behind the scenes thoughts before they go away. Speaker 1 (9:35) Yeah. Speaker 2 (9:35) And I'm using the internet as my journal. I have never felt more like the thing that we always say when, sorry, I'm very stupid. Hey, you are not. You don't say that about my friend. I'm like, you guys, I'm okay. Speaker 1 (9:46) Yeah. I'm Speaker 2 (9:47) going to be the girl that's going to be okay. Yeah. You are. You are. I practice right after this. Yeah. Speaker 1 (9:52) For Speaker 2 (9:52) next week. Speaker 1 (9:53) Yeah. I'm so excited for next week. Speaker 2 (9:56) It's a really weird thing to do this dance and then go out and like sorry fuck it up You know like in the yeah And I'll just have to be in the headspace that we were in basically like the part that I messed up I was very very aware and I'd messed it up previously like not like crazy remember last week. I was like So last week, genuinely, I told you it was as if I had been dropped off on the beaches of Normandy in terms of heart rate. This week, I was totally cool. I was at ease. I was like, okay, I'm messing this up. The ballroom floor ends, you know? And if you step off the ballroom floor, I think you get seriously. Speaker 1 (10:35) Disqualified? Yeah, I think you might get Speaker 2 (10:36) disqualified. I think. I don't know. I don't know how, you know. But there's cameras there and we were flying towards these cameras. And so every time I'd be in my head, I'm like, we have to stop. We're Speaker 1 (10:45) going Speaker 2 (10:45) to hit the cameras. So that's what you see there. When I misstepped, we were barreling at these cameras. And I missed the one step and then I tried to catch up. Luckily, I knew when we had to get back on. Speaker 1 (10:57) Anyways. Did you know that a few seasons ago, the guy from CODA was on Dancing with the Stars and he's deaf and he can't hear the beats? Yeah. Can you imagine that? No. That feels pretty impossible. I guess you can feel the vibrations. But like still to me that feels like an impossible feat. Speaker 2 (11:19) Yeah. It's crazy what people can do. It's Speaker 1 (11:22) what the human spirit is capable of. Speaker 2 (11:25) Truly. Speaker 1 (11:25) Yeah. Speaker 2 (11:27) But Speaker 1 (11:28) I think you did amazing and you know. Yeah. You're my mirror ball champ. Speaker 2 (11:33) Thanks. Speaker 1 (11:34) Forever. It'll be a fun. I'm excited for next week. It'll Speaker 2 (11:36) be a fun journey. I'm like if people like. If nothing else, great TV, y'all. Speaker 1 (11:42) Oh, yeah. Speaker 2 (11:43) Fun TV. It is fun TV. Genuinely. My apologies for taking the competition seriously. You guys know that I can't play fishbowl with my family anymore because it's not fun for anyone, right? I take it too seriously. We have retired fishbowl from my home because... If you're acting out the Grinch, why are you on your tiptoes? That will piss me. This is the same thing. I'm in a competition. I'm taking it seriously. There is going to be spikes and there's going to be lulls Speaker 1 (12:16) emotionally Speaker 2 (12:17) and there's going to be excitement. Speaker 1 (12:20) I Speaker 2 (12:20) might over-celebrate even if I do well next week. However, if next week, if I mess up next week. Speaker 1 (12:31) There will be no episode. Baby, there will be no next dance. Speaker 2 (12:34) Baby, you'll never find my body. It'll be far. It'll be gone. Can Speaker 1 (12:37) you tell us anything about next week? Or is it under lock and key? Speaker 2 (12:40) It's Yacht Rock. Speaker 1 (12:41) Okay. Speaker 2 (12:42) Give Speaker 1 (12:43) me an example of Yacht Rock. Speaker 2 (12:44) I want to tell you a bunch of examples of stuff that's very shocking to me. Speaker 1 (12:47) Yeah. Speaker 2 (12:48) There is an age gap where things are... We've now hit the age gap. I'm obviously on my phone. My whole feed now is obviously just... videos it is crazy videos of me messing up and then videos of um People being like like talking about Dancing with the Stars and being like is Dancing with the Stars popular again or am I at the age where I watch Dancing with the Stars? I think both. I think it's a combo piece but there's a younger audience that doesn't know what Yacht Rock is and I'm feeling very confused by that. Speaker 1 (13:19) I kind of Speaker 2 (13:19) don't Speaker 1 (13:19) either. Speaker 2 (13:20) Okay it's basically like I've always done this because like you know I love to be on a boat. Speaker 1 (13:24) Yeah. Speaker 2 (13:25) And I'm always you know like kind of my ears perk up when I hear about someone's parents that have a boat or maybe they. You know, they have a close friend with a boat. You know, I'm always looking for the person who owns the boat. And when I'm on a boat, I'm like, who can I talk to about? Who's the manager? I would like to speak to the manager of the boat because I want to get on Ox. I want to play Hall and Oates. Speaker 1 (13:50) I want to play. Speaker 2 (13:51) Yeah, it's like kind of like. Speaker 2 (13:54) Let me think. Hall and Oates, some Fleetwood Mac. I would say Lenny Kravitz would be Yacht Rock. Brett, you know Yacht Rock. Who else would be? Christopher Cross. Speaker 1 (14:05) Absolutely. Oh, Bob Welsh. Speaker 2 (14:11) Anyway, it's kind of just like... Speaker 1 (14:14) What Yacht Rock did you play in the house, for example? None? You're not a Yacht Rock person? Speaker 1 (14:22) I actually listen to Yacht Rock in the sense that there's a few, there's like a band that Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy Buffett, the Speaker 2 (14:29) Doobie Brothers. Oh, Speaker 1 (14:31) listen to the music. Is that Yacht Rock? Yeah, yes. Speaker 2 (14:35) I think so. There's Speaker 1 (14:36) a band that turns show tunes into Yacht Rock. Speaker 2 (14:39) There you go. Which I Speaker 1 (14:39) like. Speaker 2 (14:40) Like Bill Withers. Yes. Toto, I think would play. So anyways. Speaker 2 (14:49) Do you know your song? I don't think I can say it yet. Okay. Yeah, Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins, Toto, Steely Dan. I Speaker 1 (14:55) like all these people. Speaker 2 (14:56) A little bit of a fall off. Younger audience is not getting what Yacht Rock is. There was a moment last night when we were sitting up there and I was like, oh my god, Snooki's here. And Riley was like, who's Snooki? And then I said, oh. Speaker 2 (15:16) Ooh. Okay. And then I looked and I said, oh my God, Miranda Cosgrove's here. No, stop. She goes, who's that? I go, from Mike Harley. She's like, what's Mike Harley? Speaker 1 (15:24) No, no, no, no, no. Speaker 1 (15:26) That's really, really, really scary. Speaker 2 (15:29) It's all right. But it is crazy. There's like a lot of things are really happening. I Speaker 1 (15:33) honestly think dancing like this season is bringing in a new generation. Yeah. Because as we're so young, you have we have a young fan base. I don't remember who else is on the show, but I'm sure that as Speaker 2 (15:48) you're just crushing to. Speaker 1 (15:49) Oh, I mean, the guys. That's I mean, like, I mean, we Speaker 2 (15:53) knew we knew he's good. I knew he was trouble when he walked in. Speaker 1 (15:57) I think I did too. Speaker 2 (15:59) Yeah. Speaker 1 (15:59) Yeah. I Speaker 2 (16:00) feel like everyone I meet lately is trying to be smarter with money. Myself included. Cash back here. Coupons and points there. But why does it take so much effort? We all just want to make our money work a little harder. I Speaker 1 (16:12) totally agree, Connor. I love a good deal. But if I actually have to hunt for one or go out of my way to activate a coupon, I've already checked out. Speaker 2 (16:20) Yeah. Well, Brooke, I think I found one you'll actually like. Prime for young adults. It's actually pretty genius. It's a Prime membership for 18 to 24-year-olds that actually makes Prime feel like it's built for you. All Speaker 1 (16:31) right. You've got my attention, Connor. But what's the catch? What Speaker 2 (16:35) if I told you there isn't one? I'm talking about 5 % cash back on eligible purchases in categories like beauty, apparel, electronics, PCs, and health and personal care. Speaker 1 (16:45) You're telling me this whole time I could have been getting rewarded for the purchases I already make? And with no catch? Speaker 2 (16:51) Exactly. You're not changing your shopping habits. You just
