Speaker 2 (0:00) Matt told me what we owe, like with our mortgage. I'm like, how do we walk around and say we own a house? No. Literally. This is a bank's house. Speaker 3 (0:07) Our neighbor was a nudist. He would Speaker 2 (0:09) always change his clothes with the blinds fully open at night with the lights on. He almost saw me naked too one time. Chuck would have had a great day. A lot of things happened while we lived in this house. Maybe just not the best landlord ever. Probably a great person. I'm so scared of her. Speaker 3 (0:24) I mean, she was kind of Speaker 2 (0:25) a compliment. Yeah. Speaker 2 (0:34) Welcome back to Always Here. We're your hosts, Abbey Howard. And Abbey Howard. Hit it. Hit it, girl. We are. We're loopy. We're back. It's good. We're going to be a little Speaker 3 (0:47) weird this week. We are going to be a little weird. Abbey has a newborn infant. And I'm. She's still mentally in Italy. I'm just. Was I out of town? I don't know. It's also Friday. I feel like it's a weird day to record. Speaker 4 (1:01) Why are we recording today? You weren't here. Speaker 3 (1:03) Oh, so this one late? Oh, Speaker 1 (1:06) sorry. You never showed up. Speaker 3 (1:10) Perfect. I'm glad to be here. Why are we recording? Why are we here? Speaker 3 (1:17) I thought Speaker 4 (1:18) we had enough. Well, remember I asked you, do you want to record before on like Speaker 3 (1:22) a Speaker 4 (1:22) Monday, Tuesday? And I said no. Yeah, you said you wanted to record tonight. I'm Speaker 3 (1:25) sorry about that, everybody. Speaker 4 (1:26) We're here. We're here. I'll fill you in Speaker 3 (1:28) on my trip. Yeah, do it. Let me tell you. We're going to begin. Speaker 2 (1:32) I was so happy for you. Thanks. I thought about you a lot, actually, while you were gone. You should have texted me. I was like, I'm so happy that she... No, I didn't want to bug you. You're on vacation. You're on vacation. I know, but I still have my phone. But... I was like, look at her. She's doing something fun. It was fun. You're getting a little spendy. It Speaker 3 (1:52) was. Spendy. I love it. I love it. It was, it just felt like, hey, our 20s, I talk about it a lot. Our 20s were a year, you know, our struggle years. They were fun. They were formative. We had children. We had potential bankruptcies. We had launches, failures. And you know, the last year and a half has been really up. Praise the Lord. So I just feel like this was a year where, hey, we both turned 30. Seven years married. We've had so much change in the last seven years and we've gone on some trips the two of us But they've all been pretty much work-related So, you know, it's just kind of a different vibe when your husband has to go to a conference. It's just actually not Not a good vibe reading watery cheese. Yeah, literally water cheese. We went to the DR last year for kills work conference and I've never had I mean, no slander to the DR, just slander to this resort. It Speaker 2 (2:48) was Speaker 3 (2:48) the most Speaker 2 (2:48) horrid food. Speaker 3 (2:49) But not slander to the resort Speaker 2 (2:51) because we're not going to say the name. I'm not going to say the name, but you can Speaker 3 (2:53) go back on my Instagram and not stay there. I would have recommended it. Gorgeous beaches, not edible food. So anyway, anyway, this was much better. I Speaker 2 (3:02) love that you're spinning though because I listened to the Val and Caitlin episode, which by the way, I like loved it so much. I love the Addie and Abby episode. I was like. I just wish I could listen to this every week because if I'm on it, I'm not listening. I lived it. You're like, I don't need to hear me talk. My voice. I lived it. I personally don't want to hear it. But your advice for people before they got married, it was like, spend some money. I was like, I didn't expect that one. Speaker 3 (3:33) From the girl that's like, hey, don't eat out. Don't have the subscriptions. I'm like, spend your money. Spend your money before your husband tells you you can't. Speaker 3 (3:44) Take that advice with a grain of salt. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Yeah. I was like taking notes. I was like, oh, interesting. I know. But then Caleb on the trip was like, this is why we didn't spend so we could enjoy a trip. So to have him Speaker 4 (3:57) supporting in that way too. Speaker 3 (3:59) It was. And it was just true. Like we could go on this trip and spend money and not feel the pressure or the stress. Or the guilt about spending money. Like it just truly felt like such a free. That Speaker 2 (4:09) is what Dave Ramsey says. Live like no one else so you can live like no one else. Speaker 3 (4:12) Yeah. Speaker 2 (4:12) And I feel like we kind of experienced that this past week. Speaker 3 (4:14) Which is like Speaker 2 (4:14) such a gift. Speaker 3 (4:15) So happy for you guys. Such a Speaker 2 (4:16) blessing. So Matt and I also talked about you guys a lot. We're like. Speaker 3 (4:19) Oh. We're having so much fun. That's sweet. We miss everybody. I didn't see your. I looked at all Speaker 2 (4:22) your stories. I didn't see your content though. So I want to know. I love Caleb's. Caleb was like Mr. Speaker 3 (4:28) Instagram. He Speaker 2 (4:29) was. He was posting in the moment. I love travel Speaker 3 (4:31) Caleb. Speaker 2 (4:32) Honestly. Travel Caleb Speaker 3 (4:32) is a whole different beast. And I do have a video coming out about how I will miss that man. He becomes so dad-like. He was taking pictures of the stupidest stuff. I'm like, what are you going to do with that? You know when you go and these trips and people are like taking pictures of birds and just random things. That was Kayla like zooming in. I love it. Taking the Speaker 2 (4:51) most Speaker 3 (4:51) random images. Travel Kayla. I just kept looking at him and just laughing. It's like I love you. Speaker 2 (4:57) I didn't see your content. Okay, Speaker 3 (4:59) so we did seven days in Italy. And we had been to Italy before for a honeymoon. We did a couple different spots in Europe and we did stop in Amalfi. And so when we were thinking about this trip, I was like, maybe we go to Greece or we go wherever. And I sold Caleb on Italy because there was a Formula One race in this town. So that ladies, if you have a man that maybe is super a little hesitant about booking trips, whatever, just tell them their hobby is there and you'll get them on board real quick. I love that manipulation. Yeah, yeah. It was a little manipulation, but. I think Caleb needed the push. It was good. Yeah, he was like, this was the best decision ever. So we knew we wanted to go into Milan because that's how we could get to the Formula One race. We kind of planned our trip around that. So the first couple of days we went up to Lake Como and there are three cities there. We did three days and then we did the Formula One race and then we did a couple of days in Milan. So it was just kind of the perfect both of like a little bit of the best of both worlds. We had the lake and the mountains and then we had the city and the race. It was just a really good mix of activities. I will say, I have so many thoughts on this part of Italy. The food in Como was a little disappointing. Which, you guys know, the food in Italy is insane. Everywhere. It's just unbelievable. It's the best of the best. And so, I think that kind of put a little bit of a... Not that we were like, damped, but a little disappointing on those first couple days, because you just have such high expectations. And that's such a big part of your trip. You know, you go down, you're like, what are we gonna do for breakfast? We're gonna stop at the little restaurants along the way and get a gelato or whatever and split this and that. And just the whole day you're eating. And so when every bite is a little underwhelming, you're like, what's going on here? To the point where Caleb started rationalizing. He's like, maybe when we were here after college... we just had children taste buds and like everything you know just we're matured our palates are matured i was like i just think they don't use salt in this region Speaker 1 (6:52) yes yes Speaker 3 (6:54) yes but we had some really good food in bellagio which is there's like three main cities in lake como we stayed in one a town called verona which was so gorgeous everything in como is so picturesque so I mean, it doesn't even make sense what you're looking at. You can't even comprehend the beauty. So that was so fun to look at. Everything's so fun to walk through. It's really easy to get around by the ferry. So the town that we were in, Verona, the food was not very good, but the other towns we went to were great. So there was hope. We were like, okay, it's just maybe this little city Speaker 2 (7:21) that Speaker 3 (7:22) maybe doesn't have the best of the best. But overall, it was great. We did have our Airbnb. Did you see any of this? No. Okay, our Airbnb was... Okay, I was like trying to find places that didn't... break the bank, you know? So I'm like, okay, looking at hotels versus Airbnbs. And I find this Airbnb that I wanted something walkable. The reviews were a little warning, like, hey, yeah, you can walk. Speaker 3 (7:46) But it's a hike. And so I was like, oh, well, are they just out of shape? You just kind of start to rationalize in your head. Maybe they just, we work out a lot. We hike. It's not gonna be a big deal. No, this hike was 20 minutes, steep incline, up a mountain. Up a mountain, okay? Clip in. Clip in. I'll show you a video of Speaker 1 (8:07) it. Speaker 3 (8:08) And by the end of this hike. We only left our house one and then went home once because we were not going to go up and down this multiple times a day. It was such a, it was hard. Huffing, puffing, sweating. Well, and also you're kind of scared Speaker 2 (8:24) of Speaker 3 (8:24) heights, huh? It wasn't that, no, it wasn't dangerous. It wasn't a heights thing. It was just a, wow, like I'm wearing a nice outfit and I'm absolutely. Speaker 3 (8:33) pitted. I'm so stinky. My chest is just dripping. And it was humid. It just wasn't romantic. Speaker 2 (8:41) It was Speaker 3 (8:41) actually exercise every day. Speaker 4 (8:44) I thought about that. The one day you guys, you went in the ocean or whatever. Was it, were you staying at that place yet? No. Okay, okay. Yeah, no, Speaker 3 (8:53) no. I Speaker 4 (8:53) was like, so did Speaker 3 (8:54) they just Speaker 4 (8:54) bring their swimsuits with them? No, yes, we did. I'm sorry, yes. That was a Speaker 3 (8:57) planned thing? Yeah, we put our swimsuits in our bag. We... just one day we put our bibles in our bag and we're like oh let's like go down to the town and read and then we get down there i'm like hey caleb i'm sorry there's absolutely no way i'm going back up that mountain today so you're gonna have to carry around our two thick bibles for like 12 hours he hiked around with those things on his back and then had to hike up the mountain with them it's like we're not going back up there it was a hindrance actually and then we did find like scorpions you know it was just the whole thing but it was Beautiful. No. For the men's. It's for the men's. I was like, maybe next time I'll just pay a little more and we'll stay in the town. But hey, we ate a lot of pasta and gelato and it was great. So that was like the first half. Then we went to the Formula One. Do we want like a full recap? Yeah. Give it to it. No. Okay. So we did Como. It was beautiful and gorgeous. So then we go and we do the Formula One race. And this was quite the experience. This was Caleb's, this was all I could think about or talk about. He didn't care about any other part of the trip except for this day. And it was really cute. There was something that stood out to me a lot. We went into town. I was like, I want to buy a hat because I don't have any merch. You guys, America. Speaker 3 (10:09) is just supreme at sales. Really? Merchandising. There was not, there was one little place where you could buy hats in the entire town. You found it. No, I didn't. They were ugly. So I waited until the day of the race. And then when I got to the race, they had a bunch of spots. Oh, okay. Speaker 2 (10:26) But like Speaker 3 (10:26) around the town, this is the one, this is like the Super Bowl. They only have this event one time a year in Italy and it's their literal. pinnacle of sports for them. And you're telling me not one place. Maybe it's just American consumerism. Speaker 2 (10:38) I Speaker 3 (10:38) know. I was shocked. I was like, I just want a t-shirt or something. So that was kind of interesting. No tents, no merch. That's crazy. It was really crazy. I was like, this is Speaker 2 (10:49) insane. Speaker 3 (10:50) So they have this tradition at the Grand Prix where after the race, they storm the track. And when I tell you that, I thought I was going to die. Speaker 4 (10:59) I literally thought I was going to die. You guys were packed in there. Oh, Speaker 3 (11:03) great. Did you guys see the documentary about Houston, like the Travis Scott concert? Oh, Speaker 2 (11:08) I Speaker 3 (11:08) didn't watch the documentary, but I knew a bunch about that. Yeah. Speaker 2 (11:11) Okay, that was just going Speaker 3 (11:12) through my head this entire time. And I'm like, stop thinking about it. Stop thinking about it. Stop thinking about it. But that was the moment. And I remember talking to Caleb. I'm like, hey, this is probably going to be. snug right and he was like yeah it probably will and so i was kind of like a little mentally prepared for it no Speaker 2 (11:28) no no so Speaker 3 (11:29) we go to line up at this gate with like 10 laps left in the race and we've been there since 11 a.m it's 93 degrees it's so hot outside and full sun just sitting out there watching these race cars it was very fun but it was just to set the scene okay Speaker 2 (11:44) wait Speaker 3 (11:44) really quickly when Speaker 2 (11:45) you're seeing a race like this Speaker 2 (11:49) So what's your visibility like no there's none, okay? Like for like one second years like you and Speaker 3 (11:55) then you're like a long time Yes, and that's what you're there Yeah, but if you like if you have to make sure your eyes are correct or else you get dizzy because they go so fast It's like you can't you know what I mean you get like the whiplash a little and then your eyes get a little cross-eyed So every minute I was kind of like oh my like dizzy But it was fun. I don't know. I think Caleb addressed Speaker 4 (12:14) this on his Instagram story is that they also have screens. Yes, they do. Speaker 3 (12:18) You Speaker 4 (12:18) can see the other half of the race. Speaker 3 (12:20) I Speaker 4 (12:20) was really into the contest. What I'm saying is I didn't learn. Speaker 3 (12:24) It was, yes, it was very learning for me as well. It was a learning day. Someone airdropped. I was confused. Speaker 4 (12:30) Sorry. I'm Speaker 3 (12:30) asking so many Speaker 4 (12:31) questions. Someone airdropped Speaker 3 (12:32) to a Speaker 4 (12:32) video. How did he, did he ask them? You said to accept killing him? Speaker 3 (12:36) This environment was made for Caleb because it's very communal. Because you don't know at all what's going on in the race. And also everything was in Italian. So we also knew nothing that was going on. And so people are listening to the race, the broadcast, while it's happening around them. And there was a crash that happened literally just after. like you could run he could walk to it and see it um so when it happened he ran over there and he was talking to all the italians and they airdropped him a video of this crash it was very it Speaker 2 (13:02) was really crazy yeah Speaker 3 (13:04) caleb was like a little kid in a candy store and it was the sweetest thing to me ever and that's why it was one of my favorite things because just watching him be so giddy and happy i was like this is so fun just you know caleb is like a he's not the most expressive guy all the time so seeing him like that was just so fun Speaker 2 (13:18) um Speaker 3 (13:19) anyway what were they talking about storming the track oh yes So we're getting lined up. Anytime you guys want to jump in, jump in. Because sometimes I'm just talking and I feel like I'm boring people. We're lined up. The crowd's already, it's squishy. You know, I'm getting squished in there. I'm sweating. I'm like, oh my gosh. So then, I didn't know how this worked. But, you know, you're not in charge of your body. You're just being shoved through a gate. You're literally like shoved out like a bottle rocket. Or like you let the air out of a balloon. And it just, that's how you're pushed through these gates. I'm like, what are we doing? Why are we here? And so we get through, you know, in this video, I just posted a real, I took a video of it. I was like, wow, that was horrible. Oh my gosh. Like I'm in distress over this. So then we start running and we're like a half mile to, or maybe a quarter mile to where we have to meet. Cause they, you want to go watch the ceremony, them get the trophies, they spray champagne, they play music. It's like a whole thing. So we're running and we're kind of. We're fast like we're we run and we're passing a lot of people in the crowd so we get there kind of early and so in my head I'm like, okay people are gonna come in. It's not gonna be that bad No, people are coming in from both sides of the track and squeezing us into us. So we're at the middle It's the most claustrophobic I've ever been in my life It's just getting tighter and tighter and tighter and tighter to where my arms are literally pinned to my side. I would actually panic I would need a snorkel because I'm also short and I wouldn't be able to breathe. I'm tall so I feel like that helped a lot because and I did look this up I am pretty much as tall as the national average of most men in Italy. Speaker 2 (14:59) Because Speaker 3 (14:59) I was like I can see over most of the crowd actually so that was kind of good. I can breathe but yeah if you're short like the girl in front of me came up to like my chest she was first of all she was basically standing on like an she was tilted like was falling over. Speaker 2 (15:15) She was laying up against me. I was holding her up. Speaker 3 (15:17) I was like, breathing on her. And my arms are pinned to my side. There's so many people. And in that moment, I'm just thinking, this is one of those moments where nothing bad is happening. Nothing bad has happened, but at any moment, something horrible could start happening. And it was so hot. I'm surprised more people didn't faint and stuff. Sounds like a blast. Yeah, you know what? That part I didn't love. I just kept thinking to myself, when will this end? And I just kept taking deep breaths. I'm very proud of myself that I didn't panic. Because also, what are you going to do if you panic? You're stuck. You're trapped. You can't get out. There's thousands of people around you. So I was like, you can't panic. Just enjoy the moment. And it was short, thankfully. But yeah, it was intense. And Caleb was so funny because he had his hand on me the whole time. And the crowd started pushing. People were trying to get out at the end. And I was like, just let go. I'll meet up with you. Speaker 2 (16:08) Just let Speaker 3 (16:10) go. I was like, it's okay. I'll meet up with you. He was just like, no, I'm not going to let go of you. Thank goodness. Because apparently I have the survival skills of a fish. I think I would have just been swarmed back into the crowd. Never Speaker 2 (16:20) to be seen from him again. Speaker 3 (16:22) I would have been like, oh. Speaker 3 (16:25) Why did I think that letting go would have helped? Matt always keeps me in front of him. Well, it was like, Kayla kind of broke the crowd. I'm Speaker 2 (16:33) thinking Speaker 3 (16:33) about the Usher concert. Speaker 2 (16:35) And we got to get on that little train afterwards. It's like that. I was like, truly, Speaker 3 (16:41) Abby. I'm sure it's just like that. Speaker 2 (16:46) Help me. I'm scared. Matt's like not talking to me because he knows I cannot talk. I don't have the breath for Speaker 3 (16:50) that. Speaker 2 (16:50) Yeah, you are Speaker 3 (16:50) claustrophobic. Speaker 2 (16:52) See, you would have been really pissed in this. It was crazy. That's hilarious. I Speaker 3 (16:57) was actually so on the edge of pain that when we got out of the crowd, I started to have adrenaline come down. I almost threw up. I was like, I'm going to be sick. Like, I'm shaking. I almost started crying. I was like, that was the best moment of my life. You saying that makes me feel like Speaker 2 (17:13) it was really, really bad because... I'm way more dramatic about that stuff. No, it was really bad. Speaker 3 (17:17) But Caleb was pretty confident. He was massive compared to everyone in this crowd. He was like, I would have been great if I just picked you up. And literally, he probably could have just put me over his head and walked me Speaker 2 (17:28) out. Maybe he's Speaker 3 (17:29) so much bigger than everyone in Italy. But yeah, it was definitely an experience. It marked it off his bucket list. And that was that. Thank you to Cash App Speaker 2 (17:38) for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. But the day was amazing. Speaker 3 (19:22) Like I want to go to more races. It was really fun. And then we spent a couple days in Milan and just exploring. It was so beautiful. I thought Milan was going to be really lame just based off of what I saw online. But it was fantastic. It was so walkable. Fashion. So safe. Fashion capital of the world. It was pretty amazing. So yeah, we had a really good time. Are you not? Well, I wasn't going to bring it up if you weren't going to bring it up. Speaker 3 (19:48) It's a secret. It's not a secret, but I didn't want to brag. We got a really nice bag. I got my bag, ladies. Yay! Speaker 3 (20:00) Prada. It's a Prada bag. It was probably one of the cheapest bags in the store. It doesn't matter. It was so beautiful. Speaker 2 (20:07) I Speaker 3 (20:07) was so excited about it. I didn't want to. My favorite video is online to watch her bag unboxing stuff. I don't want to be braggy. So if people bring it up, I'll talk about it. But yeah, I just feel so excited. It was so sweet because Caleb going in. You guys heard on the podcast. Were you guys planning on buying a nice bag? No, Caleb said it on the podcast. Yeah, he said Speaker 2 (20:28) it. Speaker 3 (20:28) On the husband's episode, he was like, maybe we'll buy bags. But I didn't know. I didn't bring it up again. I was like, I'm just going to let that one sit in the air. Oh, you never brought it back up? No, I wasn't going to bring it back up. I didn't realize that was the first time he ever Speaker 2 (20:38) said it. It was. Speaker 3 (20:40) I wasn't going to shut it down. I wasn't going to bring it up again for him to be like, ah, maybe not. You know what Speaker 2 (20:44) I Speaker 3 (20:44) mean? Okay. So Speaker 2 (20:44) I Speaker 3 (20:44) was just going Speaker 2 (20:45) to Speaker 3 (20:45) let it be. Okay. And then when we were there, he wanted to go into all these nice stores like Gucci, Prada. He was like, you want to go in? I was like, no, I don't want to go in. Because I don't want to go in and waste these sales associates time. Like, it feels weird. You kind of have to go in and not have an appointment. But it's not just a place you go in and browse these stores, you know? So I'm just like, yeah, I'll go in and look. But it feels kind of weird to go in and not, I Speaker 2 (21:08) don't know, be serious about it. Unless Speaker 3 (21:09) the Speaker 2 (21:10) doors open. So then he Speaker 3 (21:11) was Speaker 2 (21:11) kind of like, I want you to, like, this is your Formula One Speaker 3 (21:14) race. Like, this is your, you want to do this your whole life. So it was really sweet. And yeah, I did get quoted for one bag that was $3,400. And Caleb, I was like, I love this bag. And then I kept looking at Caleb and he was not making eye contact with me. I can't approve that person. And I kept looking. I was like, wow, this is so pretty. I kept looking for his eyes and he was just like looking around with a smile on his face. And then I was like, okay, I'm going to, thank you so much. We'll be back. Caleb was like, okay, not that much, please. I was like, good, I have some handlebars on the budget. Okay, great. Speaker 2 (21:51) I Speaker 3 (21:51) was going to take what you were going to give me, you know? Max it out, baby. Right. I wasn't going to start low. I'm Speaker 2 (21:57) going to Speaker 1 (21:57) start high. That is just a Speaker 3 (21:58) rookie Speaker 2 (21:58) mistake. Speaker 3 (21:59) That's a rookie mistake. So, yes, it's really pretty. It's a small bag. I didn't want like a casual. Bag I needed a nice like night bag. I just don't have anything like that and it's gorgeous. It's this burgundy wine leather It's a soft I think it's a calf leather and it has it's like the perfect little shoulder bag and I'm obsessed with it I Speaker 1 (22:19) know and Speaker 3 (22:20) I just can't wait to wear it and give it to my daughter someday Did you use it Speaker 2 (22:23) while you're in Italy? I did I had to I said I had to take my Ferrari for a drive as you should Get gone in the Ferrari. That's sweet I'm so happy Speaker 3 (22:32) for you. Thank you. I feel very giddy It was just sweet to the moment. Like we go on this big trip and it just felt like that bag is going to have a lot of sweet memories tied to it. Speaker 2 (22:42) And Speaker 3 (22:42) Caleb was so excited for me. Of course. I know. It was just so cute. Speaker 2 (22:45) So it was an amazing trip. Essentially a souvenir. It kind of is. Yeah. A really nice souvenir. A really nice souvenir. Speaker 3 (22:53) Really nice. I Speaker 2 (22:54) know. It Speaker 3 (22:55) just felt so special. Speaker 2 (22:56) That Speaker 3 (22:56) is really fun. I'm Speaker 2 (22:57) so Speaker 3 (22:57) happy. This is so crazy about Italy. This is the last thing I'm going to say. Because this really stood out to me. In Italy, when people are eating dinner, no one has their phones out. At all. Like, that was one of the biggest things that stood out to me, the difference between Italy. I mean, there were a lot of things. But I was like, wow, this society is so social. Like, the phones weren't even on the table. Speaker 4 (23:19) They were Speaker 3 (23:19) nowhere. And I feel like that's how, when I was looking around, I could always pinpoint the Americans because they were on their phones or had them out. Oh, sad. I know. I was like, this is really good practice. To just even have them away. And people were out. They would sit out there for hours Speaker 2 (23:32) and talk and just have dinner Speaker 3 (23:34) until Speaker 2 (23:34) like late night. They never had their phones on them. I know. It was very cool. That is awesome. I know. So like that's great. I'm going to take that with me. Yeah.
